True Blood is a better than average film despite its low budget straight to video origins. It tells the tale of Ray Trueblood played by Jeff Fahey. He is talking to his younger brother Donny about moving away from their drunken father and going to live with their mother. Within an hour Ray will have to hightail it out of town since he has been wrongly accused of murdering a cop. The real murderer is a rival gang leader played by Billy Drago. I have never seen Billy not overacting terribly in any movie. In each movie it starts out kind of amusing but grows very irritating just watching him go. Ray grabs Donny and they head to a train station where they will leave for their mother's house. The cops follow Ray to the station and the chase is on. In all the mayhem Ray leaves Donny there to wander around looking for his brother. Ray escapes from the cop.Cut to ten years later when Ray returns to his hometown a decorated war hero. He has come back for Donny never expecting that his brother might be a little p.o.'d at his brother abandoning him. Ray is upset to learn that Donny has joined a gang and even more upset to learn that the gangleader is none other than his onetime rival Billy Drago. So now Ray has to save Donny from the clutches of Drago's hold over him. Sherilynn Fenn factors in as Jennifer. She is a waitress at the place that Ray eventually gets a job at. They start off combative at first but eventually Ray and Donny go there after Donny has been shot by a cop. Ray stitches him up and an uneasy truce is reached between the two of them. The rest of the film is them battling each other while hiding out from the cops who are still after Ray for the murder and hiding out from Spider Masters. ( Drago) Now all the acting is very good from the three leads and the action scenes are impressive for a low budget film. Unfortunately it can't shake its low budget roots in the presence of the boom mike. I lost count at four times that it appeared in the top of the frame. Its not subtle either. You see it above one actor and then you see it as it goes from actor to actor as they say their dialouge. This is the main complaint of the film because it is very distracting. Besides that though its a good film that is worth checking out.

This movie is actually enjoyable! I enjoyed watching the fight scenes in the movie between the two rival gangs. The Trueblood brothers have great parts and little Chad Lowe makes a great first impression. He's the toughest of the two brothers, but holds a special place in your heart. The special effects weren't great compared to newer action films. The characters reminded me David Lynch's characters, especially the evil Billy "Spider" Masters. He had a very creepy part and watching it alone can be quite scary. Ok, so the real reason to see this film, is for Sherilyn Fenn. Her part is acted very well and the bathroom scene is very sexy! Get the DVD version, so you can pause and slow mo during this part because it flew by very fast.

Especially with short hair! Otherwise the plot is tolerable, although only just. Lukewarm performances from Fahey and Lowe, but the bald dude from Top Gun is in this and that makes for some fun dialogue. Overall, if you're looking for a decent movie, you might look elsewhere...
Cast up to task in "True Blood".......2002-03-15
This movie doesn't get the credit it deserves. It's classic good versus evil and the people chosen to personify this were well chosen. Jeff Fahey (Sketch Artist) does a credible job at being a caring brother who pulls himself out of the slums at a price. His brother is played by Chad Lowe (Apartment Complex) who delivers as a confused teenager. The evil pursuing these two is masterfully done by one of the best bad guys in the business, Billy Drago. His performance as a gang leader displays his masterful ability to frighten. His performance here will help send his career forward into movies such as "Death Ring" and "Deadly Heros". Every actor starts somewhere and this film did it for Fahey and Drago. Give this film a shot.

I bought true blood for a dollar at a video store in the mall as a joke. Considering I never heard of Jeff Fahey and Sherilynn Fenn I was pretty sure it was going to be pretty darn bad. However, the plot was entertaining and as 80s as it was it wasn't that bad a movie. If you want to watch a movie about a mixed up kid in a gang, his brother and the woman he loves then true blood is your kind of movie.

Description
Street gang member Ray Trueblood( Jeff Fahey) is framed by the ruthless leader of rival gang, Billy"Spider" Master (billy Drago), for the murder of a policeman. As the law closes in, Ray flees the city, leaving behind his little brother, Donny(Chad Lowe). In order to aviod capture for a crime he didnt commit, Ray hides out joinging the military. He returns to his old neighborhood a decade later to take his brother away from the volence of the streets and the dead end life. But much has changed in Ray's ten-year abaence. Donny, now 18 yaer old, hates Ray foe abanding him long ago and so has become a member of the spider gang.
