This movie is one of a kind , also a true story.. Ive been unable to find it in dvd format , and its not being produced at the moment. Strange huh ?

4 out of 5 stars good movie.......2007-02-24

this is one of the best movies i have seen, and i like true stories movies so this rates high for me...

4 out of 5 stars okay movie.......2007-02-18

this movie was great except it was very long. the acting in semi decent and the effect are good for its time. i think a remake would be lovely. i also think that some different faces would be good.

5 out of 5 stars Very realistic movie based on true accounts...........2007-02-04

When I first saw this film in 1993 I was very surprised to learn that it was based on a true story. The way the movie portrayed the townspeople as all non-believers is the way it would actually be right? This story adapted very well onto the big screen due to great writing, decent special effects, and very good acting. These actors really did a good job on not making this movie too corny or fake. I had kinda forgotten about this movie until it came out on dvd but after seeing it now the story really does stay with me. The dvd transfer is very crisp and clear with great 5.1 sound. I wish they had some special features included on the dvd. At least a follow up on the people the movie was about.

5 out of 5 stars Exceptional direction, cast, and realism .......2007-01-21

I've seen this movie 3 times now over the past decade. I'm probably more impressed with each viewing.

The story is presented very clearly and with no wasted time. A strong cast has been assembled: this is no "B" movie. Reportedly it has only made $20 million domestically since its 1993 release which is a shame. I can only assume it wasn't marketed well.

I hadn't realized that one of the leads, Robert Patrick, had been T-1000 in Terminator 2 (in 1991). It is indeed hard to recognize him here from that earlier role. He's as convincing as possible as Mike, the best friend, of the abductee Travis. James Garner has a key role as an investigator. Henry Thomas, "ET"'s Elliot and by this time a teenager, is one of the loggers who witnessed the UFO. I hadn't recognized him either until this viewing.

The episode aboard the UFO, presented in flashbacks, was the work of "Industrial Light and Magic". It's eiree enough that, unlike Travis, you would think twice before stepping out to go up to a UFO.

As in the book, a great deal of emphasis is placed on the polygraph tests. It's easy to accept the movie as entertainment: in the book Walton is insistent on the truth of what he experienced. But a polygraph, as I understand it, is not scientifically accepted as a reliable lie detector.

Travis Walton participated in the movie production but accepted a completely different presentation of the abduction sequence than his book presents. His book's version, supposedly what really happened, would not have been as interesting. If you had been abducted, would you care that Hollywood used your story as input for a yarn that distorted what the aliens were like or would you want people to see what really happened. I wonder if many people who saw the movie didn't read the book and so came away not knowing how the aliens actually seemed to Travis.

But Hollywood didn't need a true story, just a story that they could present as if true.

Travis Walton has a web site which was operational at the time I am submitting this review.

1 out of 5 stars Where is the Fire???.......2007-05-05

This yoga DVD has definitely no Fire and no energy. It is good for hospitals and people who recover from something. This DVD is almost identical to their VHS tape (1984) called Aerobic Yoga - The Flow Series that was very good. Couldn't they just redo it? If you want to find the fire and the energy that is missing in the DVD go back to the VHS tape. Somehow over the years most of the yoga instructors got the understanding to produce DVDs that caters to the beginner market only. Probable, because this is where the money is? They do not teach yoga anymore, they just make a living.

2 out of 5 stars Workout? Yes Yoga? Not in my opinion........2006-12-31

I know I am the only person, so far, who is not entranced with this DVD. I bought it because it had such a plethora of glowing reviews. I am not happy I did.
What drew me to yoga, after decades of long distance swimming, was the philosophical component of the practice. Yes, I love a strong work-out, and I do one every day (Ashtanga Primary Series, Hatha Vinyasa, or Yin-Yang), but I don't want my yoga to feel like an aerobics class. If that's what you're after then buy this DVD; but, if you want something with a bit more yogic depth I would recommend Shiva Rea's Solar DVD. (It may be sold as the Solar Lunar practice. I am partial to the Solar practice and the meditations on the Lunar disc.)
The other thing I was not happy with when doing this DVD was the lack of music. Again, if you like your yoga sans music this may be the DVD for you.

5 out of 5 stars Top of the Chart.......2006-05-28

This dvd is absolutely spectacular. I do this particular dvd when I know that this will be the major exercise of my day. It is challenging, and as another reviewer mentioned earlier, it is one of the few dvds that includes headstand in its routine. As an "intermediate-beginner" to "advanced-beginner" I consider this dvd to be at the top of my ability level. I do have other dvds that are more difficult, but I tend to modify the poses somewhat when I do them. With this dvd I am able to do all of the poses (as Tracey does them, not the more advanced way that Ganga shows) including headstand (without being near a wall). Most of the time I cannot do a headstand the same amount of time that Tracey and Ganga do, but it has given me the confidence to know that I can make slow steady advances with yoga. This dvd will get your heart pumping, and your legs will feel rubbery once you're done, but you will feel so relaxed afterward that you will be glad that you did this routine. I own all of the other dvds in the series (the original, earth, and water) and I would reccommend this set to anybody who wants to make progress with yoga or to have a variety to work on depending on your mood. I would put the original dvd (purple cover) to be just below fire as far as difficulty goes, and then obviously earth and water beneath that one. Again, there are days that I don't feel like doing the most difficult dvds that I have but I still want to do a yoga routine, and it is at these times that I normally get the earth or water out. Water is another one of my personal favorites in my collection. Earth is very conservative throughout the whole routine, but it is a great dvd to help you concentrate on the poses to make sure that you're getting them right instead of flying through them (like an ashtanga yoga class). If you want a complete series that will do just about everything, then get this dvd set. Another thing that I like about this series is that Tracey and Ganga don't "shy" away from any weaknesses. The only pose that I don't remember them doing is eagle pose. Throughout the whole series they do just about every one of the basic poses, so that they (unlike other dvds I own) aren't taking poses out of the routine that they can't do. All of the poses are in there. If you enjoy this series half as much as I do, then you will love it.

4 out of 5 stars Good workout.......2006-05-23

Wow this yoga got my heart pumping. I really found it fun and it was challaging for me.If you are fairly a begginer at yoga you might want to try a lower level in the series because I think this one is level three and they do some head stands that I am unable to do yet but plan on working at it. It is also over an hour all the way through so you are looking at spending some time. Good DVD not my absolute favorite but still very good, I have just been getting into yoga so I want to try a few more tapes just to add to my collection of videos. The only complaint I have, which is a small one at that, is the woman's voice who is doing the narrating is not as soothing as I would hope, but before I got this DVD I was using another DVD where the narrators voice was very melodic so it might just have been what I got used to and you may not even notice it. I enjoy yoga because although it is challanging at the same time it is relaxing and I guess I was just a little dissapointed that the voice was so instructional , but like I said that is minor and I still give it 4 stars!:)

5 out of 5 stars Works up a sweat!.......2006-04-06

I am an advanced exerciser but intermediate yogi. All the Amazon rave reviews lured me to purchase FIRE. I'm so glad I did. It's an hour of great flow & challenge. The headstand part was my cincher since so many yoga DVD's don't have that. My favorite practice is Ashtanga ,& this had some similarity.

1 out of 5 stars Man does this suck.......2007-04-10

This was just painful. This scatters back and forth between clips of music, clips of interviews with the artists, clips of festival performers, and clips of the audience who are out to prove that they're there for everything but the music, and yet will tell you over and over again that they're there only for the music. You don't get enough of the music or performances to care about them. You don't get enough of the interviews with the artists to know if you care about anything that they're saying. And you get way too much of the audience, so you do know beyond any shadow of doubt that you don't care about them.

The highlight of the film, if there is one, is a back and forth montage between a member of Oasis and some idealistic performer I can't recall the name of. Our cynical little Gallagher brother drones on and on that the idea that music can change the world is dead, that it can't be done anymore, it's simply a dead idea of a bygone era. It's actually the greatest thing any member of Oasis has ever said in any forum, and probably the only true thing they've ever said. Anyway, the clip goes back and forth between his cynical view of music and the bright eyed ambition of an artist that still believes he can change the world, even if one person at a time. I have to think when he watches the movie, the humiliation is unreal. Of course, I have to think anyone that sees themselves on this film would be humiliated beyond words.

1 out of 5 stars Perry Farrell, why have you forsaken us?.......2006-07-12

... Heck, I'd settle for John Popper and the return of HORDEfest.

Sweet Jesus, there are not enough words in the English language to describe how painful this DVD is. Apparently produced by hyperactive 22 year olds drinking caseloads of Red Bull, this DVD pretty much encapsulates what is wrong with the empty TV of MTV. Pandering to the ADD crowd, the camera never lingers for more than 2.4 seconds on any one scene. What the hell, were they paying their camera guys by the minute? Performances are interspersed with spoken interviews and the camera occassionally focuses on a concertgoer who is singing along with the band onstage ('cause, man, you know... everyone was having so much fun!).

If you've ever been to a concert and felt embarrassed for having something in common with your fellow concertgoers, then you should definitely not watch this DVD. Callous youth have never seemed so vapid. It would be excusable if these kids were stoned or drunk or under SOME chemical influence while making so many stupid comments but I'm sorry to say that they appeared quite straightedge.

As other reviewers have noted, this is the crux of the issue. The DVD attempts to give the crowd their fifteen minutes of fame rather than focus on the music performances. (People, it's about you! You're all stars! You have the power to make a difference and you're young and beautiful and edgy and fun! Now go buy a $40 t-shirt and a $10 bottle of Smart Water!)

Note to the girl dancing onstage during the Belle and Sebastian performance: you should really sue the producers for raping you of your dignity.

3 out of 5 stars In the days of the box set,.......2006-06-10

Yeah it's got the mood there fella but really lacks the fullness I was looking for. A great video would have at least had 3 songs per performance. Morrissey's song was cut and that was dissapointing. I got the film to see that and it was like 2 min 25 seconds long. OK.

This video is really just a preview of what could have been and isn't. Rent. Don't buy.

5 out of 5 stars NOT a concert movie...and better for it!.......2006-05-21

While other reviewers have zeroed in on this movie's lack of complete performances or its penchant for "split screens" and "cliched" techiniques, I find "Coachella" a truly interesting capsule of the various moods and bands that hit the stages and fields of this SoCal staple. The film features stunning photography, and tries to portray the many experimental and conventional aspects of the festival. Yes, we see some of the "hippier" trappings like the bike inventions and the "modern" art, but we also see a spirit of kindness and joy of life that is missing from most modern celebrations. I certainly didn't expect complete performances, but most are long enough to get the feeling and vibe of the moment. This also kept the film moving at a faster pace, and acknowledges that while some like Björk or Radiohead, others might not like them enough to stand a complete performance by some of these artists; for these, a little will go a long way. "Coachella" doesn't claim to be a "concert film", and thank God it isn't. I hope another set is released with complete performances, because I would love to see them, but in the context of a concert DVD.

2 out of 5 stars How To Fritter Away An Awesome Music Documentary Opportunity..........2006-05-08

Pre-empting the imminent release of a film surrounding the awesome UK festival Glastonbury, California's music event most closely aligned with its English counterpart is here given similar documentary treatment. A lack of linear progression or narration means that the footage contains none of the flair that appearances from acts such as The Pixies, Radiohead and Morrissey should create. Songs are rarely featured in their entirety, unrelated genres are unsympathetically banked up against each other and the whole project becomes an aimless souvenir tribute that segregates against viewers who haven't experienced this festival held on polo fields in a man-made oasis. The Flaming Lips, Fischerspooner and The Arcade Fire try to lighten proceedings, but this is a scrambled opportunity.
The DVD extras include additional photographs, a colour booklet and interviews with bands such as Ben Harper, The Dresden Dolls and The Libertines, none of whom actually feature on the documentary itself. What a bloody waster.

Gritty, obscure musical drama stars Harvey Keitel as a talented young record producer who becomes embroiled in pop music's seamy underbelly when his clueless boss instructs him to ignore a hot new R&B act (played by Earth, Wind & Fire!) in favor of a troubled vocal trio. Cynthia Bostick, Ed Nelson, Bert Parks, and famed D.J. Murray the 'K' also star. Songs include the title track, "Shining Star" and "Reasons."

3 out of 5 stars Film is awful, EW&F concert footage worth the purchase !.......2007-04-10

I wish they'd just reissue the concert footage uncut (if it exists...) This is EWF in their arena prime circa 1975 and with the over the top futuristic stage show, groundbreaking arrangements and all.

Film drags... and drags... and drags... surprizing considering that its directetd by Sig "Superfly" Shore !

Its ashame because I love Keitel and the story is an interesting one - - Its about a producer who has to fight his label who are forcing him to produce a white act that has the sound they feel that sells vs. backing the group he believes in. - - Highlights the slimey side of the music biz, the way things were... and the way things still are.

I do recommend getting this, however, because it features Earth Wind and Fire in their heyday, though everytime the scenes cut to go back to the acting I used to fast forward the VHS..

Currently its going to be released on the big screen here in Japan !!!

1 out of 5 stars Not a great flick.......2007-03-30

The movie sucks to be honest. Harvey Keitel kept it going but even he stunk. Best thing about this picture was the introduction of EW&F. The plot and the characters just didn't seem to flow with the story line...had a hard time keeping up with what was going on. The only reason I purchased this DVD was to watch EW&F. They should stick with singing.

1 out of 5 stars W I D E Screen or FULL Screen?!?!?!?.......2006-11-13

I just picked up my official copy of That's the Way of the World, and although the case and slip cover say it's 1:85.1 Anamorphic Widescreen, it's actually FULL SCREEN!!! I threw it in 2 different DVD players and it's definetly a FULL SCREEN DVD!

Is mine a dud?

Any comments? What's your copy? W I D E or FULL?

2 out of 5 stars would have been tight as a Documentary.......2006-09-10

I ain't seen this Movie in over 20 plus years, but as a Huge Earth,Wind&fire Fan i had to check it out again.it was corny back then&still is. Sig Shore who did "Superfly" brings back the Corrupt Captain from Superfly to play the Record Label head who sell this Record Company away. also Freddie from superfly plays a Minister&also Janitor in this film. Harvey Keitel plays the SuperStar Producer battling the Label big-wig at pushing the Group as EWF is known as in the Film. this Film in alot of ways was a pre-cursor to Prince's Purple Rain. EWF had the same Management as Prince later had &prince's character in PR was The Kid. some interesting things they share. but anyay the story line about the music industry is the same then as it is now. talk about irony? I gotta think that yeah this film was done in 1975,but the same rules&overall vibe applies in 2006. in truth Earth,Wind&Fire hardly have any real roles beyond on stage performance. it was cool to see Maurice White at the start of the film playing the African Instrument the Kalimba. it's a trademark of the EWF Sound. that era of EWF is them at there best.all the Original gang that was the Real FIRRE!! this film didn't do jack for there careeers because only die hard EWF fans remember it. the Album though "that's the way of the World" is one of there best. good to hear there instrumental breakdowns&it all coming together. this as a Film was cheap, poorly edited&under-written. it could have been way better if edited better, better written&also more story to connect. would have been a tight Documentary. I enjoyed the Music Performance scenes.

5 out of 5 stars EW&F should have been bigger than the Beatles. .......2006-08-19

This is a great movie by 1975 standards which is the reason I give it a five star rating, although the picture and sound does not compete with todays movies. It is quite entertaining, particularly the part where the producer was trying make a record. In doing so, he took a group with laughable talent, and produced a record which at first sounds horrible. But, he turns it into a fairly good sounding record through the use of studio musicians and audio gimmics. It was fascinating to me to see the composition evolve which became a hit, and to see how a record company manufacture and promote a new group even though EW&F was far superior than the new group the record company wanted to promote. The film is a good lesson on how records are made and how the record industry does business. This alone makes this DVD worth purchasing. I was a junior in college when this movie and soundtrack was made so this film is quite nostalgic for me and any other baby boomer of that period as the clothing and mannerisms are not mimic, but rather, it was filmed during that period. So, you get an accurate representation of that time. There is no question that the overall sound of Earth Wind & Fire, whose music transcends several categories and styles, is better than the Beatles. When the soundtrack was released everyone knew it was based on a movie, but no one I know saw it as it was not released in the market we were living at the time which was Durham, NC. But, I can tell you that had this movie been released at the time of the soundtrack, Earth Wind and Fire would have been bigger than the Beatles. This is a good film that I recommend being played through a home theater because the soundtrack can be heard througout, and sounds good for its time. This DVD gets my highest recommendation for ownership. You will not be disappointed.

These shorts from the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) illustrate how animated films can be used to present information in a concise, entertaining form. Prepared in conjunction with UNICEF's Declaration of Children's Rights, the Oscar-winning short "Every Child" (1979) deftly blends hilarity and pathos. A small child is passed from household to household, like an unwanted fruitcake at holiday time, by individuals who coo over it, then dispose of it. Using only sounds and drawings, the film makers satirize the hypocrisy of people who simply adore children--until they become inconvenient. "Hot Stuff" (1971) traces the history of mankind's relationship with fire, from the first caveman to a bickering modern couple, whose ignorance of safety rules sets off a major conflagration. Fire safety is also one of the subjects covered in "The Old Lady's Camping Trip" (1983). This crafty woman demonstrates the simple precautions needed to ensure no one comes to harm on an outdoor excursion--even careless Cousin Jim. "Every Dog's Guide" (1986) offers faster-paced and even funnier lessons. Wally, a thoroughly professional canine, strives to keep an addle-pated couple and their baby from suffering the consequences of their carelessness. Not all the films attain this level of excellence. A rather pedestrian example of stop-motion animation, "64 Million Years Ago" (1981), looks hopelessly outdated after the high-tech creatures in Jurassic Park. Similarly, Michael Mills's pleasantly silly "Evolution" (1971) has been eclipsed by the uproarious "Bolero" section of Bruno Bozzetto's Allegro Non Troppo. "Cactus Swing" (1995) is a cute but pointless evocation of two-step country-western music. Despite these caveats, "More!" is a disc well worth owning: the hilarious animation of the dog suffering from sibling rivalry in "Every Child" alone is worth the price. --Charles Solomon

3 out of 5 stars needs a little more gasoline to light the fire.......2006-08-19

Ring of Fire is more of a love story than a martial arts film, set in the cheesiest tradition of Romeo & Juliet. In L.A., the Chineese and Americans are constantly at each other's throats, fighitng both in and out of the ring. Don Wilson plays a doctor (Johnny) with martial arts skills, romancing the Maria Ford character (Julie), whose brother Brad (played by Dale Jacoby: Bloodmatch, No Retreat No Surrender) is obsessed with getting in the ring with Johhny's cousin - Terry (played by Steven Vincent Leigh: Deadly Bet, To Be The Best). Eventually, the 2 show off in a literal ring of fire, a short but good fight in the movie, fighting Thai style with broken glass (seen also in Kickboxer's 1 & 2). There is not a whole lot of fighting in the movie, but most of the fights are pretty good. Most of the move time is devoted to the building relationship between Johnny and Julie. Unfortunately, Don Wilson only has one fight in the movie, at the end. Other decent martial art stars featured in the film are Eric Lee and Vince Murdocco (Kickboxer 2, To Be The Best). One of the best lines of all time comes from this movie. Hands down to "I have some of Bruce Lee's favotie drink - WAAATAAAAH!
Overall, Ring of Fire is an average martial arts movie that throws in a decent love story, though very cheesy. There isn't a whole lot of action, but if you enjoy these on screen actors (for their skills of course), you will enjoy Ring of Fire. It is the best one in the trilogy.

5 out of 5 stars "Have some of Bruce Lee's favorite drink-WAAATAAHHH!!!!!" .......2005-01-19

RING OF FIRE is one of Don "The Dragon" Wilson's best movies. It features also some of the biggest legends in professional kickboxing- Eric Lee (a frequent collaborator of Don's), Ron Yuan, Dale Jacoby, and Vince Murdocco(FLESH GORDON).

It is true that Don has only one major fight in the film. The rest of the time, he does a bit of sparring with his cousin and finds time to romance Maria Ford.

But his one fight in RING OF FIRE is still damn good, and by itself is worth the rent/buying price. Check it out.

4 out of 5 stars Another Great Don Wilson flick!!.......2003-07-09

Don "the dragon " Wilson is a kick boxing legend. Winning 10 different world championships and proving his dragon style kung-fu was affective in the ring. Ring of Fire is one of my favorites. The plot is very well put together unlike some of Don's other films. Don only had one fight scene lasting a maximum 7 minutes. It has some great fights between what I like to call, "the asians" and the " white boys", Ring of Fire is a prety good martial arts/kick boxing film that gives you a action packed time!

5 out of 5 stars AT LONG LAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2003-05-18

After almost 12 years of looking hopelessly for this edition of Ring of Fire on VHS and DVD, and even asking people online and searching the web to see if someone taped a copy off of TV, the real deal is finally here on DVD! If you don't know what I'm talking about, there was about 4 minutes of sex and nudity cut out of all versions of this movie on VHS and DVD and was only shown on premium channels back around 1991 or 1992. After almost 12 years they finally decided to release it with the nudity. Even if you already own a previous edition on DVD or VHS this is still a MUST BUY for Maria Ford fans. You won't be disappointed and the movie's (finally) great now!!

3 out of 5 stars great movie, great fights, EVEN A GOOD PLOT!.......2000-06-11

This is one of the very few movies of dons that I like. It shows great fight scenes keeps the action pumping has good dialouge and the training sequnces really stick with you! It shows the true athletisism af the masters because dispite his performance in his other movies don is a phenominal fighter. this movie gives his name some meaning.
