I have been fortunate enough to learn the techniques from Dr. Yang himself in his seminars. He is a great teacher, a highly developed master, and a rare individual. If you've read any of his books you know how well organized, researched, and thorough his writing is. Well his videos are the same. These DVDs are as good as you can get. Nothing compares to one on one instruction, but these techniques are very clearly demonstated with close ups and alternate angles. A person can get a very good understanding by watching these and practicing along with a partner.
Some user complained about watching students "fumble" around with the techniques while Dr. Yang corrects them (mostly on the higher level DVDs). There is a good reason for this. These students are well practiced and still make mistakes. They are likely to be the same mistakes you will make. This method helps you recognize them as mistakes so you can refine your technique. Well worth the money! I recomend his seminars first and buy the DVD to review and practice between seminars.

Expert Instruction from a world-renowned Master.......2004-02-12

This DVD offers deep and personal instruction from one of the world's foremost authorities on the topic of Chin Na grappling. Developed in China over several thousand years of history, Chin Na is the root of all other grappling.

The quality and attention to detail of this training is unsurpassed, which truly makes it possible to fine tune each of these techniques until they are highly effective, after proper training. Few masters of Chinese martial arts reveal as much information on any topic as does Master Yang, and for that we owe him a debt of gratitude.

The cost of the DVDs is much less than the VHS courses combined, and also much less than the cost of a personal seminar. This in-depth training is nearly impossible to find anywhere else in the world. Combined with the advanced DVD authoring and hours of extras, subtitles and previews, this is an extremely valuable DVD. Again, thanks to Master Yang for keeping this ancient art alive.

A Wealth of Information!.......2004-01-22

This excellent DVD continues Dr. Yang's chin na video series in the same format. Every Chin Na technique has a chapter marker, and it is easy to navigate to any technique. Similar to Chin Na 5-8, after Dr Yang teaches the Chin Na, students attempt it, and Dr Yang shows corrections for their mistakes, which really makes it more like personally attending a class. These corrections are vital, and my partner and I find ourselves refering to these as we learn each technique. Dr Yang makes it look easy, but in fact, as he repeatedly points out, it takes a lot of practice to get fast enough and get the proper angle to ever really use Chin Na. Once you have that, the Chin Na require almost no power at all. It's amazing. My opponent is up on his toes, or down on the floor and absolutely unable to strike at me.

I own these four Chin Na courses on VHS also, and couldn't wait for the DVD, which costs way less, and is a much better kind of learning tool. Highly recommended!

So Disappointing And OVERPRICED.......2004-01-05

1. Maybe 10 realistic techniques.
2. You're stuck watching 2 students fumble around and then watch the instructor correct them, even sometimes contradicting HIMSELF...
3. Compared to 1-4, somehow this material (5-8 & 9-12) seems it was filmed several YEARS prior to 1-4. 1-4 was pretty good, but did they lose the original footage? The students look haggard in faded uniforms in these, yet in 1-4 they're all wearing brand new uniforms, all cleaner looking, from a couple different parts of the world, Italy, Ireland ect. with Dr. Yang's teaching digressing much less. Also 1-4 shows straight techniques versus wasting time watching students fumble around ect.

Phenomenal! Great series!.......2003-11-10

This DVD has the last four courses of this excellent series, which contain dozens of the most diverse hand, arm and leg joint locks. The leg Chin Na in Courses 10 and 11 is really cool, with some serious takedowns, and great wrestling technques. Very practical, powerful stuff for any fighting system. Course 12 has Chin Na counterattacks, where you learn how to avoid and get out of some of the most common joint locks, and apply a lock to your opponent in return. Very cool!

These three DVDs have enough Chin Na on to prepare someone for any type of fighting situation, in competition, or on the street.
