They billed it as "the film that outgrosses them all," but if some of the antics on display in Good To See You Again, Alice Cooper - Live 1973 seem fairly mild some thirty years after the fact, that's mainly because people like Marilyn Manson and some of the more lurid punk and metal acts copped many of their moves from Cooper in the first place. This movie, which combines footage from the band's Billion Dollar Babies concert tour with what might charitably be described as a storyline, had a brief theatrical run in the mid-'70s but has been mostly unseen until this DVD release, which features a high definition transfer and a new sound mix. The group (with its namesake singer joined by original members Michael Bruce and Glen Buxton on guitar, Dennis Dunaway on bass, and drummer Neal Smith) was in the midst of a nice run of hits at the time; "No More Mr. Nice Guy," "Eighteen," and "School's Out" are all ably performed here, but it's the stage show in all its Grand Guignol glory that's the prime attraction. Clockwork Orange-style violence, necrophilia, decapitation via guillotine, humping mannequins, sticking baby dolls with swords: that and more is on display here, all in the name of what Cooper, whose commentary track is the major bonus feature, describes as "performance art." Well, maybe. Most of it comes off as little more than a hodgepodge of disconnected images--some vile and vulgar, some merely silly--designed to thrill the kids and piss off the parents, which it most certainly did… and ain't that what rock & roll is all about? As for the "story" (something about a crazed film director out for vengeance after Alice ruins his masterpiece) that's intercut with the concert numbers, the best that can be said about it is that viewers have the option of choosing the "play concert only" option. --Sam Graham

This dvd was good but the plot that they put in with Herr Director was an annoying interference to the concert. apart from the interruptions every song it was a good concert.

1 out of 5 stars suckpatch..............2007-05-25

i use to really like early alice cooper band stuff......

that is why i bought this dvd.... ends up this dvd is kinda retarded with some worthless wanna be acting and not only that by the time it actually gets to the concert footage the music quality isn't very good at all.... it's hard to hear the vocals and the footage is kinda grainy like most older movies......

i know this dvd was cheaper than most and that is why i bought it but next time i'll probably pass on it....

5 out of 5 stars Early Alice.......2007-05-07

This is the concert that shocked everyone and launched his career.

4 out of 5 stars Good to see Alice in 1973.......2007-02-28

The movie portion, which supposedly has a plot, is really stupid. However, there is a nice feature where one can view the concert footage.

5 out of 5 stars An Excellent, In-Depth Look at a Queen Masterpiece (4.5 stars).......2006-11-08

In 1975, Queen were a band on the rise. They just had a hit single with "Killer Queen" off the "Sheer Heart Attack" and were set to release their 4th studio album. "A Night at the Opera" marked Queen's breakthrough, which spawned 2 hit singles, one of them being one of the most popular singles of all time. This song of course was "Bohemian Rhapsody", Freddie Mercury's epic, 6 minute long operatic force. John Deacon also contributed a delightful pop hit with "You're My Best Friend." It wasn't just these two singles that made this album so classic though.

Brian May and Roger Taylor give excellent, detailed descriptions of the work that went into recording and writing many of the songs off the album. "Death on Two Legs" was Freddie's heavy opener, and the DVD takes an excellent excerpt of a Mercury interview where he describes the idea behind the song. Brian May goes through his song structures and writing techniques for "The Prophet's Song", "'39", "Good Company" and "Sweet Lady." Roger Taylor explains the drum-work for "I'm in Love With My Car." However, John Deacon doesn't participate in any interviews, and Roger and Brian discuss how he wishes to live the "quiet life." If you are a Queen fan, this is great footage of the band members detailing the work done on these songs, and along with in-depth analysis and summaries of every song on the album, there are extras. Included is a live version of "Sweet Lady" at Hyde Park, Brian May's performance of "'39" and "Love of My Life", performed by Freddie and Brian.

This a worthwhile DVD if you are a Queen fan who loves this particular album, and are interested in how it was composed so brilliantly. Highly recommended to all fans of Queen.

4 out of 5 stars A Great Companion for any Queen CD Collection.......2006-11-05

I'm a big fan of the 'Classic Albums' DVD series. As a fan, I'd rather see and hear about my favorite musicians' triumphs rather than their personal failures (ala' "Behind the Music"). If you're a fan of the group being profiled, you're going to enjoy the behind-the-scenes look at the making of their best-known album. I'm a Queen fan, and I thoroughly enjoyed this video.

There's a lot of archival footage of Queen's mid-70s stage act (though not of the footage shows the band in the studio actually recording their music). Brand-new interviews with both Brian May and Roger Taylor comprise the bulk of this DVD's running time. Brian and Roger are as soft-spoken and thoughtful as always and I've always appreciated their dry sense of humor. Roy Thomas Baker, the album's producer, also appears sporadically as do a handful of executves who were in power at Elektra Records when Queen were under contract there. (Elektra were Queen's American distributors at one time; I am surprised no one from EMI was interviewed as this was Queen's British label). There are some rock journalists and British DJs. A variety of minor rock celebrities (Nuno Bettencourt, Joe Perry) pop in but provide very little. Freddie Mercury, of course, only appears in grainy vintage TV interviews from the early 1980s. John Deacon apparently is letting his bass work speak for itself as he declined requests to be interviewed for this project.

There are many, many highlights to both Brian's and Roger's interviews. Brian, in particular, gently reminds us that although 'A Night at the Opera' was considered Queen's breakthrough album, it really exists in a continuity of musical styles and techniques going back to Queen's first album. Brian plays us excerpts of 'March of the Black Queen' and 'Procession' to bring the point home. It's always a delight to see Brian play his Red Special guitar (or an Ovation) to make a musical point, and Brian freely credits Freddie Mercury for authoring some of Queen's heaviest riffs. It's also a treat to hear Brian's solo acoustic takes on both '39' and 'Love of my Life.' Roger shares a wonderful story in which Groucho Marx gave his blessing to Queen's appropriation of the Marx Brothers' film title to their album, and its an anecdote that isn't often retold.

There are also a series of 'extras' which were apparently cut from the TV Special version of this DVD. For what it's worth, I would have prefered if these sequences were simply re-edited into the continuity of the video. Still, they are great to have and the DVD is stronger for their inclusion.

If you're a Queen fan (especially of the 1970s material), you'll definitely want to own this DVD. While Queen experts may already know most or all of the stories included here, it's a great tribute to one of rock music's most adventurous bands.

5 out of 5 stars A Cool Masterpiece!..........2006-10-02

It was really a pleasure to see this DVD and realise the renewed personalities of drummer Roger Taylor and guitarist Brian May. If you remember after that Freddie passed away (RIP), they were really in a dark, gloomy mood. I don't remember their tranquility and peace of mind in an interview, since all happened, 6 years ago.
This DVD really is illustrative with an extensive analysis of the recording process song by song with Roy Thomas Baker and Brian May (I don't know if it had would been better to add the comments of Roy Thomas Baker about the making of "Bohemian Rhapsody" that appear in "THE MAGIC YEARS" vol. I), special Roger's drum demostration (almost a clinic!... If you aren't a drummer, with these tips you can understand better the Roger Taylor style), with good introspective interviews (and the reason of the John Deacon's disappearing of the musical scene), with people that lived the bankrup of the band in '74, and finally, the making of an extraordinary masterpiece: the A NIGHT AT THE OPERA album. It's interesting see the live footage and performances between one and another interview, and a good example of this is the live track "SWEET LADY" from the DVD LIVE AT THE HYDE PARK, '76... Good Luck!

3 out of 5 stars very weak audio.......2006-09-07

I think their original intention was to give you an insight to the behind the scenes making of the album...what you end up with is a very light overview of what happened. Lacking the presence of Freddie and John Deacon...most of what you're hearing and seeing are assumptions and opinions of half a band. They really aren't sharing any secret studio tricks with you that hadn't been made available at earlier dates.

I agree with the other reviewer who commented....since when are Joe Perry...Nuno Bettencord and Ian Hunter considered Queen experts.....at least Ian was playing the same local London bar circuit back in the pre-fame days as Queen were..and was classified as "glam rock"..so they climbed up from the same streets.

I wasn't very pleased with the audio.....very weak output.

My bottom line opinion is: The remainer of Queen are just cashing in on anything they can use to generate more income. This video is just a trip down memory lane with some of the people involved in the making of a great album. Just as they are doing by touring with Paul Rodgers and billing themselves as Queen and Paul Rodgers....They need to come up with a new name to represent their project...Queen died when Freddie did....and John Deacon pretty much made his mind known when he refused to be a part of any further musical projects. Sometimes you need to let go and move on.

5 out of 5 stars Buy it.......2006-05-13

This is a great DVD. For me, the original album gets only 4 stars. While brilliant, it has a couple of uninteresting tracks (Good Company, Sweet Lady and God Save The Queen). The rest though, Rocks!!!
The Making Of DVD is incredible. So interesting, I love hearing Brian and Roger talk. Watching them play is worth the price of the DVD alone.
I always thought '39 was about the Second World War. Silly me.
For me, I would love to hear the original 9 minute version of Bo Rhap and hoped it would be on here. It isn't which is a shame. Perhaps one day it will surface.
My version has the DVD of Night At The Opera (released on its own a couple of years ago) included, the 5.1 surround sounds amazing.
Hopefully they do A Day At The Races next as that is my favourite Queen and All Time album.

ahhhhhh having seen the show in cleveland[lindisfarne was the opener]shame the audio just doesn't do it the justice but thx for the memories, still to this day best show i have ever!!!!!! seen or heard, it got me involved in the music industry still in it making music, producing shows, again shame the audio was not up to todays standards, but still history

5 out of 5 stars Ziggy Stardust DVD.......2007-05-14

I collect music performance DVD's, and this one rates right up there with some of the best. The video viewing quality is adequate. The show itself is fun to watch, a great concert, nostalgic. I found myself comparing Mick Ronson's style, technical ability, and guitar flash, to todays performers, and how things have changed and evolved. There are some hilights, songs like Meenage Daydream, worth the price of admission. If your a Bowie Fan, its a must, otherwise still a good one to own.

5 out of 5 stars Stardust Memories.......2007-04-11

If you like all that pre-grunge grunge dressed up in outlandish costumes and enough make-up to cause Angela Bowie blush, you'll David and the Spiders ripping their way through their hits and a couple of covers including Mott the Hoople's "All the Young Dudes" and Lou Reed's "White Light, White Heat."

Grungy and gaudy before either were cool!

5 out of 5 stars the best document of ziggymania.......2007-01-29

david bowie has to be one of the best performers of all time - he has such a great stage presence and great vocal delivery - and then there is all the sparkle and glam that would make him a legend of the era.. It is so nice to have this concert footage of the legend - ziggy stardust.. Great set of songs includes the Mott the Hopple Bowie penned hit - all the young dudes..

4 out of 5 stars Classic Bowie and Ronson.......2007-01-16

This is one cool but dated video. It contains some of the only video of Mick Ronson, deceased, available. It also chronicles the Ziggy Stardust tour which was huge for Bowie in his cross dressing era. It's really good if you excuse the fact it was shot with less than top of the line gear. It still gives the vibe and I do recommend it to anyone who loves Bowie during this time. This is really some of his best work in a time when many people didn't know what to make of him.

Get it, set back, and wonder.

5 out of 5 stars Almost perfect.......2007-01-07

Great package with lots of material for the money. But of course what we keep coming back to is the fact that, to make the video widescreen, they simply chopped off the tops and bottoms of all the videos.

Often I don't really notice the difference, so I hate to continue the whining too much. But this decision DOES totally mutilate my otherwise favorite video on here: Radio Ga-Ga (of which you can get the "original" version on the Classic Queen VHS tape). Radio Ga-Ga's concept was to play around with wide-screen and full-screen video, so the original version changed back and forth between the two: most of the original version was in widescreen (with black bars on the top and bottom of the screen), but during certain sections the black bars disappeared and the video changed back to full-screen for dramatic effect. Since the tops and bottoms are cut off on this DVD, of course the whole effect is totally obliterated. Now, the edges of the video expand OUTWARDS during the key moments...but during the rest of the video, you end up seeing the whole video with black on the top and bottom of the screen, AND on the left and right! So you watch most of it in a small rectangle in the middle of your TV screen. Absolutely ridiculous.

And the point of DVDs was to show things in their original aspect ratio, without having to pan-and-scan left to right. Now, since the tops and bottoms are cut off, we're ironically back to pan-and-scan...except instead of going left-and-right, this footage on this DVD is panned-and-scanned up and down to compensate for what they cut off.

Still, this and the first volume of Greatest Video Hits both have so much content for the money, with even better sound than the CDs, so they're still an incredible bargain. And I'm sure one reason for the "fake" widescreen effect is so they can re-release the videos "restored and remastered" again correctly on Blu-Ray in a few years....

5 out of 5 stars Queen con Freddie Mercury es otra cosa.......2006-11-08

Este DVD es bueno trae clips en vivo en presentaciones en canada aparte de entrevistas y los clips de los hits conocidos ojala salga los grandes hits de Queen III no esta mal el sonido muy bueno

5 out of 5 stars All of Queen's 80's videos on one DVD and then some!.......2006-08-17

The videos alone would have made a great package, but the bonus DVD makes it especially worthy of being in your video library. Among other things, you get to go inside the studio to see Queen recording their classic song "One Vision", as well as previously unseen videos, live footage and archived interviews with all four original band members. This DVD compilation is a true testament to what a phenomenal band Queen was, and how their music will live on for generations to come.

3 out of 5 stars Queen - Greatest Video Hits 2 - set of 2 DVDs.......2006-07-06

There were 2 numbers on each DVD which were unviewable. The ones I could view were fine but as a whole they were incomplete.

5 out of 5 stars Great Set; Plenty of Good Extras.......2006-03-26

My Expectations for the collection were based on the VHS release of 1991 called GREATEST FLIX II. Fans going back to the 70's will, I suggest , enjoy this collection.
The disc 1, has 17 tracks, mostly the same as Greatest Flix 2, but 4 tracks different. I suspect they will hold the four tracks over to Greatest Hits 3.
The track listing is covered in other reviews. Please note that, as I have found, if you have a slightly older DVD player, or a PC with older, or "incompatible" decoder software, you will get a video stutter, that does not affect the audio, which is, in 5.1, truly Magnificent, but the stutter is an indicator of a faulty "codec". I think Brian and Rogers supervision may have had a hand in this quality control in the audio, and the videos, where you get to see the video from start to finish( unlike the "Do-Ro" edits that chopped start and finish in most tracks. The commentary by Brian and Roger is only slightly enlightening, and whilst Brian is mostly more upbeat, Roger has a distinctly cynical tone, but still enjoyable; I just wished they had talked more, instead of keeping to a minimalist tone.
Disc 2 is a great revalation for fans with the VHS tapes. You will see where some of the rare quick cuts in the VHS tapes actually come from. The inteviews are truly classic, and a pleasure to have. For the most part it is a behind the scenes look, but overall it is just great.
I still hope that the VHS tape material gets converted to DVD, and I especially hope that the 1976 live concert in Hyde park gets "rediscovered"; its a pleasure to see and listen in carefully created 5.1 such excellent material.

5 out of 5 stars you will forget to take your meds.......2007-03-19

comprehensive and electrifying live music to provide hours of enjoyment. This band goes all out for the live show!

4 out of 5 stars Genuine Placebo Stuff.......2006-06-22

I think the best way to review this product is separating video and audio. Audio has a non-disputable 5 Star. Molko sounds clear, you can tell all the different instruments, riffs, etc. during each second of recording.
I am great fan of live material, however sometimes the original record provides more excitement than the live version, this is not the case. Also, couldn't agree more with the track listing (as shown by other reviewers). I'm not great fan of latest Placebo stuff, so I'll put it this way: track selection won't probably get better than this. Great end with Frank Black singing duo with Molko "Where is My Mind", a classic glam rock tune.

Then the video, honestly I love this band and enjoy of the technique used by all the band members to perform their songs, this DVD lacks direct camera shots of the band members playing solos or other stuff. Most of it is "bombarded" with retro images which sould be annoying after a while, seems more like a 90 minute MTV video.
Then the extra DVD features are very specific to a particular time of their 2003 tour, but in my case I enjoyed it because I'd never seen such footage before.

Overall a very good DVD for all those Placebo fans looking for 90 minutes of their best tunes and an amazing finale.
Must say that given the few Placebo material on DVD, this is probably the best one to own.

5 out of 5 stars great concert but editing way too fast.......2006-05-20

a fantastic concert, but the video is an example of how you can ruin a perfect show by overproduction. this is edited like an mtv clip the whole way thru, which I find rather annoying. especially the foolish 'crappy-old-VHS-with-glitches' effect that visually ruins a couple of really good songs. but, despite that, the DVD is totally addicting, and - oh well, I got used to the stroboscopic pace after watching it a few times (but never to the silly distortion tricks).
you get a funny little tour-documentary as a bonus - it's pretty entertaining, not one of those serious things with endless boring interviews, just mostly Brian Molko goofing off.

ALL DOLLED UP (NEW YORK DOLLS)

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars all dolled up.......2007-01-28

Having never saw the new york dolls live this was quite insightful. I thought this captures the times very well.

2 out of 5 stars only for the INTENSE fan !!.......2007-01-10

Insightful in the off stage lives of the boys. Kibbutzy narration is at times boring, other times hilarious. The youthful Dolls traveling, that is a strange circus indeed. Whereas Jerry and Johnny are normalized, Sylvain totally blows one critics statement threw the roof. The statement was, "You don't think that the Dolls actually walk the streets in the daytime dressed that way, do you?" Well, Sylvain did. Reminds me of my lost friend from Detroit, who lived for a time on cheap red wine and bagged popcorn. (he also worked at one of the porno stores in a seedy neighborhood). Totally unpolished New York Doll performances make you want to walk down the block, and catch some kids performance in a local driveway or garage.

5 out of 5 stars When the Dolls Ruled.......2006-11-13

For those of you who saw the Dolls back in the '70's, this is a time capsule version that brings you back to Max's Kansas City, Kenny's Castaways, Club 82, and more. The Dolls are young, brash, alive, and vital. Seeing Johnny healthy and built, or Jerry Nolan chubby, it's worth the price of admission. All of the Dolls are energetic and engaging. At the time, the world was their oyster and there was no place to go but up. Great sloppy chaotic versions of their greatest non-hits. A nice feature of the DVD is the Performance Only section, as well as the commentary. It does bog down a little in the middle, but picks right back up again as soon as the band hits the stage. Some of the comments are very funny. The black & white photography lends a "historic" feel. It's way better than it should be, given the time & technology advances since then. It ends around with the Red Patent Leather gigs at the Little Hippodrome, but without fan fare or anything maudlin.

1 out of 5 stars boring .......2006-11-02

although i luv the dolls this was such a bad dvd that i regretted to have purchased it

1 out of 5 stars not good.......2006-10-01

If your expecting a documentary with the clarity and production value of "End of the Century" or "Filth and the Fury" THIS AIN'T IT! Picture taking 40 hours of bad home video (really awful sound) and editing together and calling it a documentary. No current interviews, No voice over making any sense of the chaos...No thought to flow or storyline, just a mishmash of stuff banged together. A real dissapointment. The saddest part is that for those fans out there who want it, this material could be a great source for a documentary with actual substance. I've liked the dolls for years and was really excited at the prospect of them getting their due. Its a shame this is what its been reduced to. Shame on everyone involved.

Marc Bolan had the looks, style, and bearing of rock star, and T. Rex: Born To Boogie offers proof positive that he was just that. But comparing yourself to the Beatles doesn't make it so, even if you get Ringo Starr to produce, direct, and appear in your movie. In terms of the things that matter, like singing, guitar playing, and songwriting, Bolan (who died in 1977) fell a ways short. He was hugely popular for a year or two; he and his band T. Rex loved to rock, and they had some catchy, riff-based hits, like the infectious "Get it On (Bang a Gong)," performed at length here. Still, image, attitude, and lyrics like "I wanna call ya/I wanna ball ya") can only get you so far, even in the pop music world. That's not to say that Born To Boogie isn't good fun, especially some of the 1972 concert sequences filmed (by Ringo himself) at London's Wembley arena and a couple of studio jams with Starr and Elton John (on the other hand, the lame filler between live tunes is what happens when nagging details like a story or a script matter less than simply having a stoned good time). And what this handsomely packaged two-disc set has in spades, along with fine, painstakingly-restored sound and picture, is bonus features, including extended concert footage and a couple of good documentaries narrated by Bolan's son, Rolan. It ain't deep, but if you're looking for a good time, you've come to the right place. --Sam Graham

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars see the cosmic dancer in concert.......2007-02-03

This is one of the best documents of the glam era of 70's rock on video..
Marc Bolan was at the absolute zenith of his popularity at the time this was recorded (around the time of the slider).. You will recognize some faces along the way - elton john and ringo starr.. but the main attraction is T-rex.. How could america have missed out on this phenomenon?

2 out of 5 stars Bolan was a legend in his own mind.......2006-07-09

Watching this film reminded me of how T-Rex swindled a bunch of screaming girls into believing he was the second coming of the Beatles. When in fact he was the inspiration for the Bay City Rollers and all the bad pop music that came after him. Interviews with producer Tony Visconti are so over the top it's pathetic. Visconti compares Bolan with Hendrix, the Beatles and has the audacity to say that he, Bowie and Thin Lizzy "wrote the book on British rock". Laughable.

For fun keep your eye on Bolan's guitar playing. His basic technique is playing an A7 chord incessantly and bursting into random three note lead runs that are comical.

5 out of 5 stars It's Wonderful.......2006-03-09

First off, I'm not a huge T Rex fan, or I shoueld say, I wasn't one before I purchased this DVD. I randomly came across it on my TV for; it was being given away as part of a fundraiser for Public TV. I bought it the next day, since I really didn't care about Long Island Public TV, being from Jersey.

That said, the DVD is amazing. Bolan is a light that shines, and one I didn't know enough about.

The movie portion, "Born to Boogie" is a bit weird, in the Pink Floyd kinda way, yet more comical. The Elton John and Ringo Starr parts are very interesting. But for me it's more about the two LIVE concerts that accompany the DVD. Both are amazing.

The energy Bolan brings to the table, the camera angles, the footage, the sound, everything. It's just awesome. He exudes fun, life, and graciousness.

The audience is blown away by his music and vibe, and frankly, that's what did it for me.

Anyone who is a fan of singer songwriters, whether it be Lou Reed, Bob Dylan, Jeff Buckley, Stephen Malkmus, or even Gene Ween, will absolutely love this DVD.

4 out of 5 stars T.Rex.......2006-03-02

It is with much joy that I learned via the purchase of this great dvd how good a band T-Rex really was.I am 53 years old and listen to most music from My Bloody Valentine to Peter Frampton. I was never a fan of T-Rex in the day as I was listening to Hendrix, Led Zepelin and the Stones then.
Fortunately this disc was released and I happened to see a bit of it at a friends house recently.I was so impressed that I ordered it from Amazon as soon as I was able to.
The second disc explains how painstaking it was to get this venture together and in so doing a group who were the biggest rock outfit for 2 years, can now really be appreciated live.
The disc makes it clear why T-Rex were so popular. Glyn Johns has done such an oustanding job with the sound that the picture dissapoints, understandably, seeing as it was filmed all those years ago. A great dvd to be enjoyed by all.

5 out of 5 stars fantastic!.......2006-02-09

There is nothing, not a thing bad to say about this disc. If you know the band and the music you will be immersed in what was Marc Bolan and T. Rex. The extras, including those with Marc's son...Rolan were enjoyable, touching and very informative.

The DTS soundtrack is alive and makes you feel like "you are there." Hat's off to Tony Visconti for an excellent job of bringing the audio back to life. Way recommended! Mark A. New Hyde Park, NY, USA

When David Bowie released Let's Dance in 1983, there were fans who felt Ziggy Stardust had sold out, but it was--of course--just another in a long line of stage personae for the Thin White Duke. Unfortunately, it wasn't his most interesting. This video, from the Vancouver stop on the Serious Moonlight tour, seems a little dull. Aside from a prop or two, some nifty costumes for his band (inspired by a Singapore street scene), and singing one song inside a tube of plastic, there's little of the visual imagination seen from Bowie in the past. On the other hand, the band is tight (although Earl Slick's I'm-a-guitar-god moves grow tiresome), the lighting is cool, and Bowie pulls out material from throughout his career (there are only three songs from his then-latest album Let's Dance). Best of all, he seems to be having fun, and without all the makeup and outrageousness, David Bowie the person comes through more. Maybe it's just another stage persona, but he seems like a pretty nice bloke. --Geof Miller

5 out of 5 stars great straightforward concert.......2007-05-13

This how a David Bowie concert is meant to be: the songs are delivered the way they sound on record as precise and better; the musicians and singer can ad lib without being self-indulgent; and having more than 20 songs on the set within that durations gives you the concert goer your moneys worth. I have been to a Bowie concert myself and I really enjoy watching it live and this dvd shows how it really looks like live.

4 out of 5 stars GOOD CONCERT.......2007-04-16

THIS CONCERT IS A GOOD REPRESENTATION OF THE 'EIGHTIES BOWIE AND I LIKE THE SONG LIST. I DON'T LIKE THIS AS MUCH AS REALITY TOUR. SERIOUS MOONLIGHT SEEMS TO FOCUS MORE ON BOWIES ACTING AND CHARACTER THAN ALL THE GREAT SONGS HE WROTE. REALITY TOURS FOCUS IS ON THE SONGS AND I FEEL THE BAND IS MUCH BETTER, HIS BEST, IN MY OPINION. HAVING SAID THAT, I,M STILL GLAD I BOUGHT IT AND IT SHOULD BE IN ANY BOWIE FANS COLLECTION.

4 out of 5 stars BOWIE'S BEST SET LIST.......2007-04-13

As they say, watching this bring back a lot of memories.

This is worth getting to see the man at his commercial peak in 1983. Musically, he hadn't performed a full scale tour since 1979. Serious Moonlight was very ambitious stuff.

The fact is: this was one of Bowie's best concert line-ups ever - encapsulating an amazing 15 years of music. Never short of great backing bands - the band here is the biggest and funkiest perhaps that Bowie has ever had with 2 backing singers and a horn section.

The rehearsals of the Serious Moonlight Tour had a staggering 29 songs in the setlist - amazing when you consider Bowie had to carry each song.

My only complaint with this set is that it doesn't include the encores and has only 18 songs! And the only thing that dates the look of the show is David's poodle blond hair. A small quibble...

PS My favourite tracks are "White Light White Heat" and "Cracked Actor" - guitarist Earl Slick really shines.

5 out of 5 stars SERIOUS MOONLIGHT.......2007-04-05

DOES ANYONE WHO CAN READ THIS KNOW WHERE OR IF THERE IS A DVD COPY OF THE MUSIC-VID VERSION OF JAZZIN FOR BLUEJEAN?

5 out of 5 stars Moonlight Memories.......2006-12-28

One thing I will say about David Bowie is the man knows how to own a stage and this is one of his best concerts I've seen. Not only does he sing all my favorite songs, he breathes new life into "China Girl." He gives a powerful performance of "Let's Dance" and I love the transition from "Fashion" to "Let's Dance."

As a consummate musician, David Bowie not only commands your attention, he captivates with his unique artistic style. He sings each song with the same excitement you'd imagine he would sing his songs the first time. The way the stage is lit, it truly does capture a moonlight mood. The music is edgy and romantic with poetic lyrics and a magical mood.

This concert was filmed live at the Pacific National Exhibition Coliseum in Vancouver, British Columbia on the 12th of September 1983. The songs include: Look Back in Anger, Heroes, What In the World, Golden Years, Fashion, Let's Dance, Breaking Glass, Life On Mars, Sorrow, Cat People, China Girl, Scary Monsters, Rebel Rebel, White Light/White Heat, Station to Station, Cracked Actor, Ashes to Ashes, Space Oddity, Young Americans and Fame.

Extras on this DVD include "Richochet," a documentary featuring footage from Hong Kong, Singapore and Bangkok. Here we find David Bowie giving a press conference, singing with locals, walking through an airport, experiencing each culture, sight seeing and discussing concert details with humor. As David Bowie prepares for his concert, there is also a story of members in a small band trying to get the money to go to his show.

The quality of this DVD is excellent and David's voice sounds amazing. I can't imagine any serious David Bowie fan not wanting to have this in their collection. This DVD was given to me by one of David Bowie's biggest fans and I must say he has excellent taste!

Thank You!

5 out of 5 stars Great Queen Concert from 1981, even with lacking audience participation.......2007-05-24

I've just purchased this great live Queen concert from Montreal Canada in 1981. The music is great; Freddie's vocals are superb as usual. The band played excellently and even look a bit younger then the "Wembly Stadium" and "Bowl" concerts during 1984 to 1986.
I watched this live concert DVD at least three times and saw no engineering problems concerning audio not matching vocals performed by any member of Queen (lips not matching the audio). This concert and its taping is professional.

I am familiar with a music video from Queen recorded in Canada (not sure if it was in Montreal) which is clearly lip-synced in its entirety. Queen is not performing live for whatever reason during that music video. Don't get that music video confused with this live concert.

Freddie is not even wearing the same clothes during this live concert he wore during that video. During this live concert Freddie's wearing jeans, a superman T-shirt and leather jacket.

For that music video which was lip-synced and Freddie's lips are not moving to the audio, he's wearing a body leotard. This live concert is not the same as that music video.

From this live 1981 concert it appears the Montreal concert goers are a little reserved (although it's clear they love Queen with all the flowers they throw on stage). The concert hall is a large indoor arena with isles between a number of seats. Most of the crowd stay in there seats not venturing out of them like there viewing a play instead of a concert.

Freddie implores the fans a few times; you can get up and move if you want to. You can even take your clothes off, it's alright.
During the performance of "Love of my life", as Brian is playing the intro on guitar he tells the crowd, we're going to need your help on this one (of course Queen didn't need the crowds help, but wanted them to sing along). After a few bars from Freddie no reply from the fans. Freddie mentions to Brian, they don't know it.
Queen even performs an oldies song (I think "Jailhouse Rock"), Freddie yells to the crowd, come on get up.........

Even with that bit of frustration from Freddie (He doesn't appear to be that upset. He shakes hands with the crowd and tells them he loves them), this is a great concert.
The crowd finally participated with "We will rock you" and "We are the champions".
I rate this particular concert as 3rd as far as Queens later recorded concerts. Live at Wembly (#1) and Queen On Fire at the Bowl (#2). Also since Wembly and the Bowl concerts were performed 4 to 5 years later, having the 1981 concert is a must.
Queen live concerts, including original sale price are hard to find on DVD.

One of the best parts of this live concert is when Freddie is just being Freddie during the end of the concert not only does he remove his shirt but other garments.
He just makes you smile.
This seemingly shy guy had the courage to just put himself out there and say here I am and I dare you not to like me.
Queen is outstanding and Freddie's a jewel.

5 out of 5 stars Queen rocked Montreal.......2006-10-13

I was actually at this concert I only live an hour and a half from Montreal on the US side.It was the greatest show I ever saw,I read some of the reviews and they talk about lack of crowd noise.Circus magazine wrote a review back in 81 about this exact show and in their words they said the crowd was so loud that night that Queen couldn't even hear there own monitors, they also call Montreal the rock capital of the world after that show.
The DVD is great just as I remember! Enjoy

5 out of 5 stars What is the problem with this DVD!?!?.......2006-01-26

I dont know what everyone is complaining about...Its a great dvd and a chance to see the original Queen live and in their prime (unlike the new "butchered" version with Paul Rodgers...what an insult to Freddie!). The DTS sound lacks a bit of bass but that is what my subwoofer is for. I think this a great concert and Freddie is at his best and most energetic. If your a Queen fan this is a must-have dvd!

2 out of 5 stars Queen is awesome, but...........2006-01-07

This is not an authorized version of the "We Will Rock You" show that was previously on VHS. Queen does not own the rights to it, so they had no control over the final product. I'd avoid it for that reason. Check out On Fire or Wembley instead.

4 out of 5 stars Very good concert, but the sound is lacking.......2005-11-16

I bought this DVD this past weekend. I own the other three Queen/Queen related DVDs that have been released the past three years (Wembley '86, Milton Keyes '82 and Return of the Champions). While this is a solid concert with a great setlist, the sound is nowhere near the quality of the other three Queen concerts. Personally, I think the volume in the crowd was turned way down so only the music could be heard during songs. But even if the crowd volume was cranked up, it was still a dead audience. Freddie and the band seemed to get frustrated with the silence as the concert went on, especially during Jailhouse Rock (Freddie: "COME ON, YOU F***ERS, MOVE IT!!!").

Despite the audio problems, this was still a great concert from Queen's prime years. I recommend it along with the other three Queen concerts that are available. Hopefully more concerts from their glory days will be released.

5 out of 5 stars Glam at its best~.......2007-01-12

There are sadly few movies of Roxy Music at their experimental best.
Here on the german show Musikladen you see a band that should have completely overtaken the world - great sound, great look and the exquisite sex appeal of Brian Ferry.
Watch and thrill to a band before marketing creeps ran record labels.

The T.Rex is no less marvellous.
Marc Bolan is a stunning poster boy for Glam, good enough to almost make you forget Bowie...I'm less enamored of their set simply because I've heard the songs so much more often than Roxy.
But watch and see the reason EVERY metal band in England cites them as an influence.

Fantastic performances separately but together, imperative and supercool to own.

3 out of 5 stars Documentation of the Glam Rock Scene At Its Peak.......2006-09-01

I wish that T. Rex were not paired with Roxy Music because T. Rex was closer to conventional rock and Roxy Music had an edge that would be made sharper by the first edition of Ultravox, synth punk bands and today's electro clash scene for starters. The performance by T. Rex is competent but not that interesting. Roxy Music with Brian Eno on analog keyboards (dressed in ostrich plume feathers) and Bryan Ferry on vocals, along with Andy Mackaye on a tuneless saxophone, does a few songs. "Do the Strand" is closer to a campy Broadway showtune but "In Every Dream Home a Heartache" sounds like the Velvet's "Lady Godiva's Operation" updated with synth sounds and unnervingly kinky lyrics that are clearly and purposely annunciated while the tv audience is silent until the end. The glam rock movement would eventually burn out but the odd stylings besides influencing new wave, would also have their impact on punk and goth.

5 out of 5 stars Roxy Music - a revelation.......2006-08-21

I must have been hiding under a rock or something, but now I see the light. This DVD is really a revelation. And I'm talking Roxy Music, though the "live" performances (with "live" overdubs) of Marc Bolan and T.Rex ain't shabby at all. Marc was always "the man" and this doesn't disappoint. Roxy Music must have really been a powerhouse. I'm trying to imagine how they achieved their success previous to the explosion of the media. All the hard work and touring must have paid off, but more importantly, it must have been the image and music. What a band. So many diverse personas and rehearsed to a tee. All the stories about Eno and Ferry are true. They do play on either side of the stage, Eno preening and commandeering his tape-loop system with remarkable ease. Ferry playing the retro-European sophisticate flitting across the stage from piano to mic, also with remarkable ease. And Andy McKay puts on quite the show, slipping from 1950's Saturday night drive-in to avant garde. And Phil Manzanara is a bona fide guitar-god, his tone pure, concise and biting. And Paul Thompson is way under-rated in the great drummers of rock category. He is as loose as they get. Much of this has to be seen to be believed. The camera angles don't seem to miss much (it's a pretty straight-on affair), the songs are tightly rehearsed (AND rocking) and Eno's squelchy synthesizer is heard through out. A must for any self respecting sophisticated rock n roll fan.

5 out of 5 stars Superb!.......2006-08-17

What a treat to see Roxy Music in the early days of the band! I've always been a huge fan of Roxy and Bryan Ferry's solo work. However, I got into the band with the Avalon album from the early 80's. I did have a greatest hits album (on vinyl!!), but this was the first time I EVER saw Roxy live, it is simply excellent. There are only five or six songs but it is worth every penny, do yourself a favor, get this! Also, I was very excited to finally get T.Rex ripping through 20th Century Boy which I've caught on VH-I over the years, enjoy.

4 out of 5 stars Short, but sweet........2006-05-11

This DVD is short indeed, but it is worth buying just for T. Rex's blistering performance of "20th Century Boy." Infrequently, you'll catch it on VH1 Classics. Bolan's intensity is well worth noting. I'm not an overly huge Roxy Music fan, but their set is entertaining and worth a watch. The price of the DVD is very reasonable as well. A must for die hard Rex fans.
