"I taught Vern everything he knows about Nuclear Physics" - Ernest.......2006-10-23

This a good movie to use as an introduction to the Ernest character. We see Ernest go through the usual routine of being his clumsy, stupid self, but his persona is dashed with a peculiar hint of altruism in this particular Christmas movie.

Ernest is working as a cab driver, and who should his next fare be? Why, it's Old St. Nick himself!

When Ernest asks Santa to pay, Santa finds out he accidentally mixed up his US currency with a large batch of Mr. Funtime play money. Oops!

Ernest cuts the old guy a break and lets Santa ride for free. The boss of the cab company isn't too pleased upon hearing this, as you might imagine, and we see Ernest get fired.

Ernest is bummed, so he and his new friend Harmony go to visit his buddy Vern. We never actually see the infamous Vern, and we can only assume Vern is the cameraman. It doesn't take Ernest long to wreck up Vern's house while attempting to decorate it for the holiday season.

Meanwhile, Santa's running into more trouble. Someone calls the cops on him for "pretending to be Santa" and he goes to prison. Not only that, but he discovers he accidentally left his magic sack of toys with that fool Ernest. Poor Santa. He's forgetting a lot of important things. No wonder he's out there trying to find a guy to replace him. In fact, he's already chosen a guy named Joe at the Children's Museum to be the new Santa. If he can just get out of jail and reach Joe, he can make everything right in time for Christmas again.

Can Ernest return the magic sack to Santa and get him out of prison so he can pass the torch to the new Santa? Can Ernest save Christmas? You'll have to endure quite a few amusing Ernest antics to find out. I particularly enjoy his disquise as a snake handler.

All in all, a great Christmas movie for families, and quite funny to boot. However, if you're willing to sacrifice the family feel of the movie for something with even more laughs, you can try National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.

I love this movie! It is a beautiful blend of great comedy and heartwarming sentimentality so perfect for true Christmas spirit!
We watch this classic every Christmas, and always come away from it with hilarious laughter and a teary eye or two.

If you love any type of Christmas related story like I do, then you will love He-Man and She-Ra: A Christmas Special. The story is easy to follow, the action is good, and there is enough explanation if this is your first look at He-Man or She-Ra. Truly, this is one to add to your Christmas wish list or video list.

I bought this DVD for my grown children because they were big fans of He-Man. We watched it the day after Christmas and it was amazing to listen to them discuss the show and its charaters. IF you liked the show you will love this DVD.

This is such a trip back to the early 80s!!! I don't remember seeing it then, but it sure brought back memories of He-Man & She-Ra!!! I almost forgot about little Orko! I think I had an Orko toy! This is very fun to watch, 80s music and all - I showed it to kids from 2 to 33 (!), and we all loved it! And it actually mentions biblical text - unlike a lot of commercial, secular toons!

Worst muppet movie ever.......2007-06-10

I would give it 0 stars if possible. The acting was horrible--either the actors didn't act that well or overacted. It was choppy and very unfunny in most parts. And I think the story was just too dark for a muppets movie, especially as it was targeted for kids. I just have to say, though, that in one review, someone said that Miss Piggy was a phone-sex call girl. Well, she wasn't. There was one scene that set you up to think that she was, but when she did answer the phone, she was pretending to be a psychic and wore a big wig to get more into her role. I still strongly dislike this movie, but I just wanted the facts straight.

We were excited to have a new Muppet movie to add to the family collection but 15 minutes into it---even the family Muppet expert was saying, "Wow, this is really bad..." Of course it is to be expected that the characters will change over time, with the passing or retirement of the classic puppeteers, but our disappointment and frustration came from the peculiar writing that seemed so uncharacteristic for our dear Muppets. The sexual comments, jokes and implications were too much for us---and we had no young children in the room.

It felt as though the writers had no idea of who the Muppet characters have been---all these years and so wrote for characters that were completely foreign. We found it sadly tacky, humorless and in some places even ugly. In fact, the best parts were in the bloopers---particularly the wrestling match between Statler & Waldorf---where it seemed that the truer Muppet personalities came through.

I was a child when the muppet show was still new every week. My family watched every episode together. Now, over 20 years later, I understand why my parents enjoyed the show as much as I did. There were many adult and topical jokes / skits in the orignal Muppet Show (and the first Muppet Movie). I find this christmas special in many ways an excellent tribute to those (hilarious yet occasionally bawdy) days. Of course, with Jim Henson's son taking over for him, some elements will never be the same. Modern references to pop culture (like Mission Impossible and Kelly Ripa) may eventually make this movie too dated after another decade or so - but that was true with the orignal muppet show as well - and perhaps these modern references will allow your children to view the muppets as the "cool" icons my generation saw.

Not what I'd expected.......2006-10-19

Every Christmas my family watches "Muppet Family Christmas" and "The Muppet's Christmas Carol," so I was looking forward to another Muppet Christmas movie. But I was really disappointed in this one. First of all, for those who dismiss all the inuendos saying that they'll just go over the kid's heads; kids aren't a naive anymore as alot of people would like to think. I work with alot of kids and know that they may not catch all of them, but most would get several. But even if they don't get them, why put them in a family movie in the first place?
Then, I know that the alternate world where Kermit had never been born was supposed to be worse off, but in places it just went too far. Like when Fozzie was a pickpocket, that was ok,(they even got a halfway decent joke out of it.) But seeing Scooter as a cage dancer, that just creeped me out.
And the ending; I'm not going to tell you what it is, but I will let you know that it's one that's unoriginal, and extremely overused.

A Family Tradition... Now on DVD.......2007-01-05

When KXAS first aired a performance of this play oh-so-many years ago, we taped it.

We've been watching that bootleg for too many years... now we've bought the real thing and we're glad we did.

This is not fictional. This is a documentary. Well, not really, but if you love Texas, you'll understand what I mean by that. If you don't love Texas, you're not going to really appreciate everything going on in this play.

Anyway, we're going to watch this year after year. There are so many great, memorable lines in it we love to repeat over and over. Sort of like "The Princess Bride", but for Texas.

"I don't know why the sheep charges him like that."
"Well, maybe he's had enough!"

Hilarious, fall-out-of-your-chair funny.

Tuna-Riffic!!!.......2005-04-22

I was lucky to catch these guys in Greater Tuna and A Tuna Christmas when the shows were new. Seeing them a decade later the shows retain every bit of fresh originality, with a touch of nostalgia. These two actors are simply amazing as they play every character in the town of Tuna - at times you will swear there are more than 2 people on stage, but you'd be wrong.

Remarkable comic timing, ingenious script and brilliant acting by two amazing performances. Maybe my favorite Christmas "movie."

I SO wanted to award them 5-stars like all the rest of the reviewers, but the DVD version of this classic play just doesn't meet my expectations.

My wife and I absolutely love the Tuna trilogy (Greater Tuna, A Tuna Christmas, and Red, White and Tuna). We first saw Greater Tuna on our honeymoon while in San Francisco fifteen years ago and have seen others perform it several times since. We have seen Joe and Jaston (the originals) perform A Tuna Christmas and Red, White and Tuna twice each. Every time we see any of these three shows, we absolutely laugh our a$$e$ off! The writing is simply sheer genius.

I was incredibly psyched to learn that the first two shows had finally been released on DVD and rushed to buy them. I popped one into the player and that was when my heart sank.

Don't get me wrong. The play and the performances are absolutely stellar! I am so glad that they got these performances recorded for posterity (the third one, Red White and Tuna, MUST be done as soon as possible before the opportunity is lost)!

The one star docking from the perfect five is due to the really shoddy DVD packaging and presentation. There are ZERO extras included on the disc. NOTHING! There isn't even an information insert inside the cover of the DVD. The show itself is just a straight copy of the VHS video recording transfered to DVD. Period. No remixing or remastering; any flaws on the VHS video transfered to the DVD playback. Shame on them. They could have created something for the ages, but no.

Still, this is an incredible show and well worth the investment to own. My wife and I will watch these shows over and over now and never tire of them. If they ever do come to their senses and remix and release some "collector's editions" with lots of extras (and they should, by all means!), then we'll probably jump on those as well. We love them that much!

This was an interesting and enjoyable extension of the Tuna theme, set at Christmastime in Tuna, Texas. I was fortunate to see a live performance at Ft Worth's Bass Hall. I was worried beforehand -- concerned that Tuna at the Bass might be crappie -- but it was excellent. One reason I expected not to like Tuna was the fact that all of the relatives on one side of my family are like these characters (except that the real-life editions are a lot meaner and dumber).

A Comedy Must-Have for your collection.......2004-08-22

Tuna Christmas, the sequel to the equally brilliant "Greater Tuna" is a filmed play about the citizens of the small town of Tuna Texas. The entire population of Tuna Texas are portrayed by American Treasures Joe Sears and Jaston Williams, I believe that Sears was nominated for a Tony for the show's broadway run- an award they both deserved. The Tuna trilogy- Greater Tuna, A Tuna Christmas and Red White and Tuna have a fierce and almost cultish following throughout the country.
A Tuna Christmas concerns the citizen of town during the annual Christmas yard decoration contest and the reaction to the towns notorious Christmas Phantom, who does what he can to ruin the contest.
The fact that the entire cast is portrayed by only two only makes the show better. I cannot recommend this highly enough. I don't want to tell you too much about the show, if you like to laugh, you'll love this show. My VHS copies are about worn out, I look forward to replacing them on DVD.
These are much loved shows.
Even though the show pokes fun at small town life and Texans in particular, the shows are extremely popular in Texas, anyone who knows anyone from a small town will find something to identify with.
If you get through this show without laughing, you need a "Funny bone" transplant.

Another subtle Ferrara film.......2007-06-10

Ferrara films have certain elements that are so over-the-top that it's easy to see he is often doing (or at least attempting) very subtle things with the camera, script and actors. This plays as the flipside of KING OF NEW YORK, a film that focuses on the mundane details of day-to-day drug dealing (which is not made up of endless shoot-outs on rain-slicked Manhattan streets) and then creates an interesting conflict where cops kidnap the drug-dealing husband for both the right and wrong reasons, and we're sympathetic to the wife (very convincingly played by Drea De Mateo) as she attempts to extricate him due to her genuine love for the fellow, but also disturbed because of their willful ignorance towards the wrongness of what they're doing....it is indeed a "slow" film, especially compared to KING (which is a terrific flick), but I think Ferrara is still an interesting director with a unique viewpoint.

This movie is very good. I don't know why, but americans seem to completely underrate and not understand Ferrara's movies, while in other parts of the world (for example in Russia) he is valued much higher.

I watched the movie in cinema a couple of years ago and liked it very much. Today I watched it again on the Russian DVD and liked it again.

I haven't seen this particular DVD, but I'm almost sure both the quality and supplements on this disc are good. If you like Abel Ferrara's work and/or this movie I could only reccoment to buy this DVD.

This movie was a good movie about drug dealers in NYC. If you like movies with a new york feel and look then watch it. Lillo Brancato tries too hard in his accent to sound Dominican. It sounds strained and fake. Fans of ABel ferraras films should watch.
