Years before the fast-food chain hired a talking chihuahua as its official spokeshound, Taco Bell got some high-profile product placement in this dopey thriller set in the year 2032, when the sprawling megacity of "San Angeles" has banned violence and profanity, and where virtually all the restaurants are Taco Bells. (So much for democracy!) Sylvester Stallone plays an ex-cop who's been thawed out after 36 years of imprisonment for manslaughter, and Wesley Snipes plays his nemesis who also emerges from deep-freeze and proceeds to wreak havoc. It's not nearly as funny as the similarly plotted Austin Powers,; but this special-effects-laden comedy-thriller does have a few highlights, including the pre-stardom Sandra Bullock as the cop-trainee who teaches Stallone proper behavior (and sexual etiquette) in the future's conservative society. Co-starring is Rob Schneider as a frantic sidekick who matches Stallone's one-liners with idiotic wit. --Jeff Shannon

4 out of 5 stars Take out your Aggression.......2007-06-21

The only reason I own this is for the times I want to see a great kick b*&t sequence, and Wesly Snipes definitely provides several!

3 out of 5 stars barely mediocre.......2007-05-08

This is the only Sylvester Stallone movie I ever saw in its entirety, and that was because I was stuck on a bus trip between Chengdu and Chongking. It is pure formula junk, with not a jot of originality or anything that rises about banal violence, simplistic good guys and bad guys, and spectacular effects. I would not recommend this to anyone who wants more than the crudest, most brainless Hollywood entertainment, but then, that is why I have avoided Stallone films.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing.......2007-03-31

This movie offers an amazing and stunning view of a totalitarian society in the future. Wesley snipes does a great job at playing the villain. The story is told with a comedic twist that makes it so enjoyable to watch.

4 out of 5 stars Satire at its best.......2007-03-11

If this flick doesn't demonstrate the absurdity of political correctnous, none will.

5 out of 5 stars DEMOLITION MAN STRIKES BACK..........2007-01-04

If you are any kind of fan of Sylvester Stallone, you just have to get this movie into your collection!! He does his usual start to finish movie bang-up job of beating up on the bad guys, finding a love interest, and somehow "winning" in the end. Wesley Snipes just does a superb job portraying the "bad guy"!! He is a very ill-tempered killing machine with no regard to anyone's views. After being reprogrammed, while in cryostasus, he emerges as the ultimate killing machine wrecking havoc on a now peaceful society. So, now they have to go into the cryostasus prison and thaw out the ultimate cop. Yep, that cop is Stallone. As he gets re-educated on today's society practices, he must show the peaceful police officers of a new age and time, why he is the only police officer that may restore peace, while taking "Simon" (Snipes) down. It is a nonstop roller coaster of madness and mayhem as Sly finally gets his man and wins the tests of wills with Simon. Cool looking future world too.

5 out of 5 stars "Don't be fooled these people are terrorists!".......2006-07-01

The powers that be want to relocate women, children, the elderly from their homes to make way for Delta City. These people are labeled as "terrorists" for not wanting to leave. This was back in 1993.

That is the great thing about science fiction, you can point all all the injustice and absurdities of our time and get away with it.

Judge the movie on its on merits and don't be biased because the title is Robocop 3. It is fun and it is good science fiction. It's message of "out of control executive power" is even a bit scary as it is too close to home these days.

Oh and talk about fun, catch Bradley Whitford from West Wing and Jill Henessey from Law and Order and Rip Torn from "Men in Black" in supporting roles. It makes the movie worth watching over and over.

1 out of 5 stars Robocop 3 should be arrested and shot!.......2006-03-08

Man, I just loved Paul Verhoeven's vision of Robocop depicted in the first Robocop. The graphic violence and dark humor for sure, but there was this undiscribable "mood" and "atmosphere" that a quality moviemaker brings to a film. Compared to the first Robocop, Robocop 3 should be arrested and shot. Robocop 3 is in violation of Robocop's third directive, "protect the innocent." This film definately harms the innocent viewer. Where to start? Robocop befriends a group of rag tag, poverty stricken homeless good guys who are fighting against the evil land developers who team up with, get this, the "Spatter Punks," punker rocker looking guys who terrify even the cops. Robocop does the cliche driving his car off of a parking garage to land in the middle of a gunfight. Also there is the precocious wiz kid cliche. Then, there are robot ninjas. That, alone should be enough to convince you. Also, Robocop flies around on a jet pack. I rest my case. Lastly, Robocop 3 just lacks that atmosphere and mood that made the first Robocop something funny and compeling.

1 out of 5 stars Mass marketing Robo for the kids..........2005-12-17

If the second Robocop movie has some redeemable features, then the third instalment has hardly any. This film is the metamorphous of the Robocop franchise into a kid's marketed commodity. In this respect, this film seems to be a pilot for the children-friendly television series that soon followed (though this film is not be confused WITH the actual television show pilot).

The violence is low key and the inclusion of a child actor as one of the main central characters seems to confirm this. Maybe this was the inevitable conclusion - Robocop has all the hallmarks of a `superhero' and the commercialisation of this towards the children's toy market/comics may gather a new audience (young viewers) but will alienate an older audience at the same time. The superhero theme is cemented with Robocop's new jetpack and the `ninja' style villains (this movie was released when the ninja turtles franchise was in full swing).

The film also lacks the budget of the first two movies, which was a surprise as Robocop 3 was very hyped up to its confusing release date (set back time after time with delays) and was released in Britain straight-to-video.

This film can be viewed as a pilot, of the pilot of the tv series.

1 out of 5 stars Completely horrible.......2005-09-16

Remember how blood curdlingly violent and loaded with dark humor the original Robocop was? Even it's first sequel had it's share, and that was partly what made the original Robocop so great, especially in the hands of Paul Verhoeven. With Robocop 3, Verhoeven is definitely gone, as is the violence and the dark humor, and so is original star Peter Weller, who wisely chose to skip this horrible schlockfest. Robert John Burke (Stephen King's Thinner, frequent guest roles on TV's Rescue Me and Law & Order: SVU) has the unfortunate task of playing Detroit's cyborg cop, taking on police corruption and such. There's not one redeeming factor about Robocop 3; just about everything from the action pieces, to the story, to the effects, are just plain bad. The surprisingly solid cast of supporting actors, including the returning Nancy Allen as Robocop's partner Lewis, along with CCH Pounder, Jill Hennessy, and Daniel Von Bargan, are wasted. All in all, there's a reason this was laughed at by audiences and critics when it was first released, and any fans of Robocop should just do themselves a favor and pretend this movie never happened.

2 out of 5 stars Worst of the three .......2005-09-13

Dissapointing but, that's Orion's fault for making it PG-13. This movie still hangs on to some good dark humor but loses all of the action. PG-13 movies bug me because it's telling younger viewers that it's ok to watch people die, in a certain fashion. I mean, all PG-13 movies have nonstop explosions, like in this movie, where there is nonstop explosions, showing people go flying in the air. But, of course, if someone dies in a realistic fashion, it's not appropriate for children. I hate the way holywood does this and this movie is a perfect example of it. For some lousy reason, they rated it Pg-13, which ruined the movie. In the first one and 2 nd one, when Ed 209 (a gigantic robot) fires his minigun at cops....they die. In this, their cars blow up but somehow, they dodge the minigun????
This is a major letdown and I blame the fact that they rated it Pg-13 for that. On top of it, I hate it when movies have a little girl who is a complete genious. How is she so smart???? I mean come on! Robert John Burke does a fine job replacing Peter Weller so there's no problem there even though Weller did a better job. The humor is still there, not as good as the first 2, but still there, so that's a +. Buy the trilogy for the first 2 and not for this.
And for the reviewer saying this is good because it's a family movie, what the heck? The first two showed a very dark future while this one makes it so cheesy it's lame. So, how is that good? For children to sit and watch "low degrees of violence"? Whatever. PG-13 action movies are all the same, and this same is bad. Thank goodness for the humor or else, YIKES!

1 out of 5 stars Low Budget is NOT at Fault..........2006-07-05

...this is simply a movie with an illogical premise, a poor story, some weak acting, and predictability at every turn. Yes, it's a low-budget flick that features actors who are not big names in Hollywood, but the problem is the writing (flunk!), the special effects (errrr...), and the lack of any characters to really care about. Oh, the lead actress is hot. Not hot enough that one would care if she lives or dies; looks alone do not make a good actress.

Had this big a big-budget picture, THEN it would have been a bad movie with well-known actors and cool special effects. That is, nothing could save this one from being lousy: they made the Titanic of all films, and down she went...

Use your money wisely: buy SOME OTHER low budget bad movie.

3 out of 5 stars I'll Take This "B" Movie Over A Coma Anyday.......2005-09-19

I've seen hundreds of Sci Fi/Horror movies over the years. This is one of those you'll wonder whether you've watched it or not a few years down the road. You just can't remember.

All in all, I figure it's still better to watch a so-so Sci Fi/Horror movie than "Dances With Wolves" or "Evita". This movie will end up being non-memorable, but it's preferable to being in a coma.

4 out of 5 stars A Good Futuristic Film.......2003-05-21

If anyone is swayed by the almost funny title of "Sci-Fighters," then they are wrong in not seeing this film. Former WCW World Heavyweight Champion "Rowdy" Roddy Piper plays a very good part in Cameron, a part not unlike his character in "They Live", another cult favorite of mine.

This film is for anyone who likes futuristic adventures like "Screamers", "Blade Runner," or "RoboCop". It has some of the best visual effects in a film with the backgrounds and the fight scenes. Although you can see where they dubbed some of the foul language in the establishing scenes, it is a good film for the cult film arcives.

3 out of 5 stars THE METHANE MENACE.......2003-01-02

My friend and I like to browse the video rental stores for movies that we think would be excellent targets to poke fun at.

Sci Fighters.

What a stupid name for a movie! We just had to try this one out.

Unfortunately for us this movie wasn't all that bad. The beginning was very weird, though. Prisoners are placed on the moon in a Lunar prison. The movie shows two prisoners standing at a table with power tools--apparently prisoners do labor of some sort--when suddenly they start attacking each other with saws. Prisoner A--Adriann Dunn (why does he have a girl's name?) kills prisoner B and then tries to make it look like an accident. Then, for some stupid, unknown reason he takes a screwdriver and stabs himself in the arm. But oh, apparently prisoner B isn't dead yet and some weird tentacle thing springs out and attacks Dunn's arm.

Watch out for this scene where the detective is asking this nurse where someone is. The nurse says "BEHIND you." But then the detective turns to his RIGHT, because that's where the guy is.

And I can't believe that it takes the good guys forever to realize that all it takes is a Bic lighter to destroy the methane-breathing menace. There are so many ways that they could have made this movie funnier.

"Mommy, that man has a potty mouth." or they could have tried to thwart the methane menace with air freshener. So many possibilities.

But like I say, the movie's not that bad. Worth a rental, no more.

4 out of 5 stars Sci-Fighters good vehicle for Drago.......2001-05-27

Veteran character actor Billy Drago (Delta Force 2) gives one of his most frightening lead performances in "Sci-Fighters". He plays Adrian Dunn, a convict infected with an alien virus. His character has the usual psychotic behavior that Mr. Drago has perfected in past portrayals. But he also has a mutating virus that adds even more menace to his character. Roddy Piper (Jungleground) is good as the "regular guy" detective on Dunn's trail. Jane Heitmeyer (Face the Evil) plays the doctor trying to cure the virus and gets caught up in Dunn's sexual fantasies. The movie has a good storyline and acting, lots of action, special effects and wastes no time getting into the story. Though low-budget, it delivers more than most. This is a must have for Mr. Drago fans and those loving sci-fi.

With the surprise success--both critical and commercial--of Robocop, it was inevitable that a sequel would emerge (actually, two sequels). But this follow-up lacked the dyspeptically funny vision of filmmaker Paul Verhoeven and wound up skimming the surface to repeat only the most superficial elements of the original: the big, clunky hero (played by Peter Weller), the ultra-violence (minus a dark sense of humor), and the plethora of action sequences. What plot there is deals with the corporation that runs the cops and its two-pronged attempt to squeeze every dime out of the populace and the city: create a new drug crisis (with an incredibly addictive synthetic drug the corporation manufactures, spread by a charismatic drug lord) and then attack with a bigger robot, one that eliminates Robocop at the same time. Would that they had. --Marshall Fine

Description

Peter Weller and Nancy Allen return for more crime-fighting action in the sequel to the sci-fi fantasy, "Robocop." This time, the "Future of Law Enforcement" is pitted against his newer, bigger and more powerful replacement.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Robocop fan.......2007-05-14

Not usual to see a sequel live up to the first but this one does the trick.

4 out of 5 stars "Thank you for not smoking!".......2006-07-15

Robocop returns to serve the public trust, protect the innocent, and uphold the law, in the 1990 sequel to the 1987 classic original.

Peter Weller revives his role as the futuristic Detroit cop turned cyborg, as does Nancy Allen (Blow Out) as Ann Lewis, and Dan O'Herlihy as OCP's president. Onboard this time around is director Irvin Kershner (Star Wars Episode V: Empire Strikes Back) replacing Paul Verhoeven.

Robocop is now battling a drug kingpin named Cain, played by Tom Noonan (Last Action Hero), who also leads the Nuke cult, a popular drug in the crime-ridden streets of Detroit. In the meantime, OCP is attempting to build a new cyborg to fight crime; the Old Man assigns a sexy young psychiatrist to overlook the project, who eventually recruits Cain as a new powerful cyborg, and turns a heavily damaged and destroyed Robocop into a wuss!

The movie retrieves the quirkiness of the original, with all the fictional TV ads, headline news, and shows, along with the gruesome violence and all-out chaos. However, the violence is tuned down from the original. The movie's highlight moments is watching Robocop commenting on the moon looking wonderful, lecturing young thugs on morals, and pulling his gun on a man smoking in a crowded area.

Robocop 2 is definitely not as good as Robocop, but, compared to the horrible Robocop 3 (in which Peter Weller does not star), is a worthwhile sequel.

3 out of 5 stars Robocop 2,still a great Sci-Fi film.......2006-06-21

Robocop 2, the inevitable sequal to the first blockbuster Robcop film. Not nearlly as good as the first one,but entertaining to say the least. This film takes a more comic bookish means of showing the film so it is a little campy, but all intentional. At times, Robocop 2 is pointlessly violent, but I wouldn't categorize it as greusome unless you have a really weak stomach and nature. My only complaint is there is too much swearing in this film, but it is rated for it.It is just tiresome to here a 12yr. old kid with a gutter mouth nonstop throughout the film.I wanted him to shut up,or be shot/die sooner. The special effects are top notch for its day, remember this was made before all FX houses scrambled to become CGI artists to stay in business.I actually prefer more of the old school way FX facilities durring the times accomplished visual effects, and more often than not, look better than some of the overdone films of now that rely completely on CGI to tell a story which inevitably ruins the film most times.Nothing like being bored to death by a film that is just a special effects extraviganza. Depiste Robocop 2 not meeting the expectations,it is still a great/entertaining film.Murphy is still struggling with past, fragmented memories of who he used to be,but driven to fight crime and be the ultimate police officer despite the odds of pollitical manipulation and his own turning on him. This was a great film, the only regret is that this DVD offers no featurettes which would have been a nice touch.Well worth owning for the price and adding to your collection if you are a Sci-Fi fan.

2 out of 5 stars Shockingly Gruesome and Pointless Sequel .......2006-06-04

The acts of violence and gruesomely graphic cybernetic experimentations performed in this film border on some morbid fascination of grotesque disfiguration of human beings. ROBOCOP 2 starts with a brilliantly filmed exposition stylishly photographed, scored and edited and though violent in nature in demonstrates the moral decay of society where only the fittest can truly survive. Peter Weller as officer Murphy now destined to remain RoboCop is still able to emote sympathy and compassion for his character. Murphy continually drives past the house of where his family resides and he is no longer part of. He wants his identity and his life back. Unfortunately, this aspect of the story is abruptly dropped in favor of Murphy tracking down a lowest of the low drug guru Cain played by Tom Noonan. OCP run by Daniel O'Herlihy is out to replace all human police officers with cyborgs. Detroit never had it so bad. Unfortunately OCP tries to upgrade the RoboCop model with a new cyborg with essentially just the brain and spinal cord of Noonan inserted into a massive and intimidating robot. In the process of this film Murphy's RoboCop becomes an ineffectual tool to the absurd nature of his superiors. He is not even a hero or a blunt instrument. He is just a pawn with total lack of motivation. His confrontation with Cain is anticlimactic and just too over-the-top. The confrontation is not even about good and evil. It is pointless. The entire film is beyond good taste and reason. Who would even want to live in such a dismal society of such moral decay where human beings are reduced to being biological components cut up for parts and inserted into steal and chrome mechanisms. Even Leonard Rosenman's score echoes this depressing outlook and bolsters the idea that there is something quite wrong here. If you are looking for some gratuitous violence of the most perverse, look no further. Luckily ROBOCOP 3 returned at least to a nobler outing for our hero.

1 out of 5 stars Repulsive Violent Film.......2006-05-31

This is a below average film in every respect. Repulsive things here. The acting is not good at all. Pretty bad in fact. I did like the film very much. The violence is beyond poor taste. It is below average in every department and I did not enjoy it. The first 10 minutes of the film are good. It looked like it was going to be a good movie. But the film fell into violent after violent episodes. The concept creating another bio-robot was just revolting and turned me off.

Early on in Robocop 3, an action figure of our metal hero on the nightstand in a little girl's room informs us that he's now become a children's toy. The image is right on the money; despite following up two of the most violent, hilarious sci-fi/action films ever made, Robocop 3 is strictly for the kiddies. It's not just that the gore has been toned down considerably to make for a PG-13 rating; also excised is the straight-faced portrait of a world run by corporate fascism. When evil corporation OCP, and its even more evil Japanese parent company, plan to raze a Detroit neighborhood to put up the shining new Delta City, the residents (including the aforementioned adolescent, who conveniently happens to be a computer expert) gang up to fight back, just like the angry neighbors in Death Wish V. Robocop (played this time out by Robert John Burke, Peter Weller having wisely passed) could be a hindrance to the companies' plans, so a ninja android is sent in to deal with him. Even all this could have been enjoyable, in a campy sort of way, but nothing pays off as either comedy or action--tellingly, the two big showdowns with the ninja start exhilaratingly (Robocop's clunky movements hilariously counterpoised by the android's acrobatic leaps), only to end just when they're getting good. Director Fred Dekker has some nice stylistic touches scattered about, but not nearly enough to save the film. One high note, though: The animated "Johnny Rehab" spot may be the funniest ad in the whole series. --Bruce Reid

But RoboCop, sworn to protect the public, joins forces with a band of urban freedom fighters battling to save their neighborhood.

1 out of 5 stars Robocop 3- Protect the innocent from this movie!!.......2005-04-28

"Ahh finally, robocop 3" was the first thought that popped up in my mind as I sat down in my room to watch the movie. I loved the two first movies (Peter Weller is awsome as Murphy/Robocop) and I was really excited to see him in action again, wearing the metal plated armour suit... But wait a minute? What is this? No Peter Weller? Damn, well hope I live through this... I barely came out alive of my room that night...

This is perhaps one of (maybe the worst) "3rd movie in a series of good movies"-films I have ever encountered... The Plot is bad, probably written by a five-year old child, the actors disgusts me, reminds me of bad soap-opera acting, and the whole thing smells like a movie for children... I can only say one thing about this movie: If you love Robocop 1 & 2 and have no experience with this movie, well, do not see it, okay?! It will ruin your life... It has ruined mine...

2 out of 5 stars This is Painfully SH*T!!!.......2004-06-12

After the high quality of the first two films there's only one way to go...downhill and fast.
This film put plain and simply is pants! A crappy japanese cyborg is created as the new nemesis for robocop, & it looks exactly like a human.
A piss-take of the first two films rolled into one, what a disaster...ignore this film.

1 out of 5 stars Oh man!.......2004-03-17

What a crap film this is!
Some films are so bad that they are funny. This isn't one of them. It's just plain bad.

I have nothing more to say on the subject cept make sure that your holding a loaded gun to your head before you start watching this film. That way you can put yourself out of your misery in the fastest possible way.

1 out of 5 stars Lead in for TV Series and lame tv movies.......2004-01-29

This movie must have been made as a pilot for the series that followed. This would explain the lack of wit and social commentary as well as the toning down of the violence. This movie had a serious continuity problem. Nobody seems to have noticed that in the first two movies Robocop had a son, yet in the 3rd movie during the flashbacks he had a daughter. This was truly a bad sequel.

2 out of 5 stars THIS IS KINDA INSULTING TO THE FIRST TWO MOVIES.......2003-12-16

OCP PLANS ON DESTROYING DETROIT TO BUILD DELTA CITY. BUT, WHEN A GANG OF ANGERED RESIDENTS DECIDE TO FIGHT OCP BACK, PROBLEMS IMMEDIATELY BEGIN. TO ADD TO THE PROBLEMS, ROBOCOP [PLAYED HERE BY ROBERT JOHN BURKE] JOINS THE PEOPLE IN THEIR QUEST FOR FREEDOM. NOT AS VIOLENT AS THE FIRST TWO MOVIES, AND IT'S ALSO NOT AS GOOD. THE BIGGEST MISTAKE THEY MADE WITH THIS MOVIE WAS TO REPLACE PETER WELLER AS ROBOCOP. ROBERT JOHN BURKE JUST SEEMS LOST AS ROBOCOP. THIS SERIES WAS SERIOUSLY STARTING TO RUN OUT OF STEAM TOWARD THIS POINT. WHY COULDN'T THEY JUST KEEP THIS ONE ON THE SHELF? ANYWAY, ANOTHER BIG MISTAKE THEY MADE WAS TO HAVE ANN, ROBO'S PARTNER FROM THE FIRST TWO MOVIES, GET KILLED. HAS A FEW GOOD ACTION SEQUENCES, BUT IT'S SERIOUSLY LACKING THE ENTERTAINMENT THAT CAME WITH THE FIRST TWO MOVIES. IF YOU STILL HAVEN'T SEEN THIS BUT YOU WANNA SEE IT, RENT THIS, BUT DON'T BUY THIS. FOLLOWED BY FOUR DIRECT-TO-VIDEO MOVIES.

3 out of 5 stars Nice, but nothing more.......2006-03-02

The films included in this collection are nice, old trash-movies, especially "Warriors of the Wasteland" with the great George Eastman a.k.a. Luigi Montefiori. However, the quality is VERY bad. I know 20 years old tapes that have a better picture. Plus the picture-format is not the original one (for exmaple "Warriors of the Wasteland" is included in 1,33:1, but its original format is 2,35:1 (Cinemascope) !!!). The main reasons why should buy this box anyway is:
a)Some films included are available on DVD for the first time
b)It's damn cheap !
BUT I've you already own this titles as good quality tapes, you needn't buy this since the quality surely isn't any better.
By the way, the DVD-edition of "Warriors of the Wasteland" (a.k.a. "New Barbarians") from "Shriek show" is much better, but costs more than this whole box.
Sadly, the DVDs are flippers, so watch out for sratches !

5 out of 5 stars Warriors of the Wasteland on DVD!.......2003-08-11

My worn down VHS copy of The New Barbarians aka. Warriors of the Wasteland can rest at last! This classic Spaghetti Post-Nuke is worth the price of this DVD alone. Plus 'Hands of Steel' and 'The Bronx Executioner' are on there too. This is futuristic Italian Nirvana!
