Bullets,Bombs & Babes Say's it all.......2006-11-10
That's the credo for the series of lighthearted sexy spy spoofs created by Andy Sidaris. If you were a fan of late night cable then chances are you are familiar with his work.A quick review of Andy Sidaris movies.Shot on the cheap, shot quickly, featuring at least a half a dozen Playboy Playmates or Penthouse Pets, studly guys, lots of wild action usually involving guns and or explosives, simplistic if sometimes silly plots, ample nudity and an overall sense of plain fun. This particular 3 disc set features 1988's Picasso Trigger,1990's Guns, and 1994's the Dallas Connection. My favorite is Dallas Connection but Picasso Triggers fun too.Guns is mediocre compared to other Sidaris films.Playboy Playmate Dona Speir stars in Picasso Trigger and Guns while Julie K. Smith and Julie Strain carry the ball in Dallas Connection.I won't take up much space telling you the plots of the 3 films .The basic gist is Speir and her partners( Hope Marie Carlton or Roberta Vasquez) are agents trying to bust various bad guys trying to destroy the world.Samantha Phillps leads the agents in Dallas Connection and Strain's Black Widow is their nemises.Chips alumini Erik Estrada is the villian in Guns the evil Rodrigio Oberegon is the villian in Picasso Trigger and Dallas Connection. If you are a fan of campy not to be taken as art cinema I highly recomend any of the Sidaris films( well up until Day of the Warrior where he started losing it).
A mix between Roadhouse and Skinemax and Bond.......2006-03-09
First off, these movies are completely retarded. They're ridiculous and are far from being quality films, but that doesnt mean they arent entertaining... I watched Picasso Trigger and had to change my shirt because I spit beer all over myself when watching the motorcycle "chase" scene. 80's Playmates riding motorcross bikes in tank tops (and no bra's!) and using an explosive boomerang to take out one of the bad guys is just one of the highlights.
If you're in to bad dialogue and bad acting, these movies are a gold mine. Seriously -- RoadHouse, Stone Cold, Point Break, etc. dont even come close. If the Coen brothers tried to make a bad movie, it'd probably look like these... I just realized that that's probably an obtuse compliment, even if it may be insulting. Whatever... Where can you get three hilariously lame movies for less than 20 bucks? I highly recommend it.
andy sidaris knows how to make a movie part 2.......2006-01-01
pacasso trigger, guns, and the dallas connection are the films in this second collection of his films. mr. sidaris was a cameraman for a.b.c. sports for years and on his off times he and his wife made some of the best drive-in movies ever made. i saw them when cable t.v. hit our area in the early 80's and they were great. no deep meaning, just action, and fine looking babes. not for the kids but for the adults who never really grew up. much fun and action to be had here so sit back and just enjoy an actoin and babe packed movie.
repetition is bad.......2005-12-24
I love the andy sidaris films, the action, the girls, its like watching a james bond movie. But why have some of the same movies from Vol.1 appear in other volumes? each volume should have totally different movies, and why only 3 movies in the 2nd and 3rd volumes? where is FIT TO KILL,SEVEN,DO OR DIE,and HARD HUNTED in the other volumes? I hope another volume comes out that includes these films.
Well done........2005-11-23
The rest of the film distribution community could learn a thing or two from the team of Andy and Arlene Sidaris. They make films with the budget some directors spend on groceries every week, and they do it well. But if you're reading this, you already know that. You want to know how the DVD's are, especially since the last four Sidaris movies that didn't see release yet are being released one a piece in each of these new box sets.
Never fear. Nothing has changed from the previous releases. Same director's commentaries, same featurettes, same film school lessons. Hell, even the same menus. Nothing has changed but the cover art and the packaging, which is also well put together for a multi-disk set. Everything is secure, and the box is stout and sturdy enough to make it through a rather long shipment without getting jiggled too much. That's a good thing, because if the contents of the box got jiggled and scratched, then you couldn't watch the intended jiggly parts that the shiny pieces of plastic contain. (It's funny, because I'm talking about breasts.)
The next two sets are listed to come out on Valentine's Day (isn't it appropriate?). If you keep an eye on them and preorder, each of these sets of three obscenely fun movies can be obtained for less than the cost of the individual movies from the previous distributer. Buy them. Buy them good and hard, and help the Sidaris family finance their next picture, Battlezone Hawaii.

A Six Pack Of Bullets, Bombs And Babes!.......2005-03-02
MALIBU EXPRESS (1985) - 3 STARS
Written and directed by Andy Sidaris, this early effort puts too much emphasis on comic relief and not enough on the action/adventure aspects of the film. Soap opera actor Darby Hinton stars as Cody Abilene, a private investigator who can't shoot straight, can't act, but is irresistible to women. Surrounded by strong, beautiful women, such as Sybil Danning (Contessa Luciana) and Lynda Wiesmeier (June Khnockers), this movie is more reminiscent of a Russ Meyer film than a James Bond thriller. Fortunately, Darby Hinton didn't appear in any more Andy Sidaris movies.
HARD TICKET TO HAWAII (1987) - 4 STARS
This movie introduces the characters of federal agents Donna Hamilton (Playboy Playmate Dona Speir), Taryn (Playboy Playmate Hope Marie Carlton), and Edy Stark (Playboy Playmate Cynthia Brimhall). Donna and Taryn, whose cover is flying an inter-island cargo plane in Hawaii, accidentally intercept a delivery of diamonds intended for drug lord Seth Romero, played by Rodrigo Obregón. They also accidentally let loose a snake infected by toxic waste, with deadly results. (Watch out for an exploding toilet!) Soap opera star Ronn Moss plays agent Rowdy Abilene, another mimbo (male bimbo) federal agent. The Sidaris formula of combining James Bond movies, Playboy videos and exotic travelogues really starts with this movie.
PICASSO TRIGGER (1988) - 5 STARS
Donna Hamilton, Taryn and Edy Stark are back, along with double agent Pantera (Playboy Playmate Roberta Vasquez). Picasso Trigger is the name of a tropical fish, a priceless painting, and the code name of Salazar, the villain of this movie. Soap opera star Steve Bond plays agent Travis Abilene, while Rodrigo Obregón plays bad guy Miguel Ortiz. Miguel has Salazar killed in order to consolidate his power, but you can't keep Picasso Trigger down! The action goes from Paris to Dallas to Hawaii to Las Vegas in this tale of double crosses and surprises. The complicated plot and fast pacing make this one of the best of Andy's movies.
SAVAGE BEACH (1989) - 5 STARS
Donna Hamilton and Taryn team up one last time as federal agents. They receive a call to fly some badly needed vaccine from Molokai to a hospital on another island. On their return flight, a raging storm forces Donna and Taryn to crash land on a remote South Seas island. Gold, which the Japanese had stolen from the Philippines during World War II, just happens to be buried there. At the same time, the U.S. Navy sends a commando unit to the island in search of the gold. Rodrigo Obregón plays Martinez, a representative of the Philippine government who says he wants the gold returned to his country, but really wants the gold for himself. A band of international terrorists, working in conjunction with Martinez, also arrive to turn the remote island into a savage beach!
GUNS (1990) - 4 STARS
Donna Hamilton (Playboy Playmate Dona Speir) and Nicole Justin (Playboy Playmate Roberta Vasquez) head up the team of L.E.T.H.A.L. (Legion to Ensure Total Harmony And Law) agents. Erik Estrada stars as the villain Juan Degas, also known as Jack of Diamonds. He's a South American gunrunner who uses Hawaii as his base of operations. Juan uses a pair of transvestite hitmen (shades of Ed Wood!) to kill Nicole, but they kill the wrong woman. The action switches to Las Vegas, where Juan utters the immortal line, "A Smith and Wesson beats four aces!" Agents and villains keep getting killed during the course of the film. When Juan has a tough female D.A. kidnapped, who just happens to be Donna Hamilton's mother, he sets in motion the final showdown between himself and Donna.
ENEMY GOLD (1993) - 3 STARS
This movie was written and directed by Andy's son, Christian Drew Sidaris. Christian isn't as accomplished at making movies as Andy is. His father always favored exotic locales, while Christian filmed most of this movie in the woods. Speaking of woods, most of the actors recite their dialogue in a very wooden manner. To be honest, most of them were hired for their physiques and not their acting skills. Only Rodrigo Obregón as the drug lord Santiago, and Julie Strain as hot hitwoman Jewel Panther, can really act. Most disappointing of all, the obligatory love scenes are kept to a (pardon the pun) bare minimum. Where Andy would linger over the love scenes in great detail, Christian rushes through them as quickly as he can to get back to the story. One can only hope that Christian will overcome his tendency towards prematurely finishing these scenes in his future movies!
Each movie is hosted by Andy Sidaris and Julie Strain, and includes audio commentaries by Andy Sidaris and his wife Arlene, who produced the movies. Also, each movie is followed by an "Andy Sidaris Film School" segment, in which Andy and Arlene show how to film action and love scenes. In addition, there are trailers for each movie, still galleries of exclusive photos for each film, and lots of other extras.
A TOTAL OF 24 STARS, DIVIDED BY SIX MOVIES, EQUALS AN AVERAGE RATING FOR THE FILMS OF 4 STARS.

The Fishmonger Cometh.......2004-09-22
For those of you who don't know, a "Picasso Trigger" is a tropical fish. Andy Sidaris' decision to code-name a stone-cold killer after a fish tells you pretty much everything about the atmosphere of this film. If you're in a serious mood don't bother opening the wrapper. But if you're not, and I know I try not to be, PICASSO TRIGGER is a fantastic romp through a sunlit, smiling, no-holds barred T&A universe.
Andy Sidaris deserves (and ultimately will receive)a Special Lifetime Achievement Oscar for his filmmaking. An Emmy winner (for ABC's Wide World of Sports), Andy loves athletic and energetic people, and it shows in his casting of Playmates and Soap Opera hunks in his films. There's plenty of gunslinging action and lots of softcore love scenes. "Bullets, Bombs and Babes" is the Sidaris motto, and PICASSO TRIGGER lives up to it.
In PICASSO TRIGGER, Playmates Dona Speir and Hope Marie Carlton once again reprise their roles from HARD TICKET TO HAWAII and SAVAGE BEACH as Secret Agents Donna Hamilton and Taryn Kendall. This time, our favorite ladies are on the trail of the man who killed Picasso Trigger, but mostly they are just taking long soapy showers, lolling around in bed in silk teddies, and climbing thong-clad in and out of hot tubs with other (male) agents, who fling suggestive comments at them faster than a speeding bullet.
Taryn is equipped as usual with her undercover gadgets (this time an exploding slot car) and her uncovered breasts. Donna is packing a spear gun (sort of like Claudine Auger in THUNDERBALL but nude). Donna eventually kills Pantera (a very leggy Playmate Roberta Vasquez) who is an enemy double agent, but mostly because she made love with Donna's boyfriend.
Roberta Vasquez looks much better here than in GUNS, by the way, which demonstrates the importance of a good hairstylist (watch both films, you'll see what I mean).
For the second female lead, Hope Marie has relatively little camera time, which is a shame as this was her last Sidaris picture. Whether the two facts are connected is a question someone else has to answer. Unlike many subsequent Playmates, Hope Marie has a natural ingenue look which many of us (me included) find much more appealing than the overpumped silicone and collagen of the 90s-2000s. Dona and Hope Marie had a good on-screen girlfriend chemistry, too, with Hope Marie/Taryn as the protege and Dona/Donna the devoted instructor.
The acting in PICASSO TRIGGER is almost good (the girls remember their lines without getting that deer-in-the- headlights look onscreen) and, believe it or not, Andy actually wrote a plot which, although transparent, holds up well. The location shooting is phenomenal, and PICASSO TRIGGER plays well as a full-color comic book for adults (well, grown males, anyway).
The Special Edition DVD has several segments of "Film School" which show that a good movie can be made on a shoestring budget by inventive people, and there are numerous other goodies, all worth your time.
A splendid time is guaranteed for all.
Picasso Trigger.......2002-04-16
The movie is actually very good with some improvements needed in acting but not much. There is skin shown throughout the movie for everyone seems to be in love with someone else, oh well. It's a spy type of movie with a real twist towards the end and it will surprize you. It is really worth getting for your collection but if you aren't sure, definitely rent it, I don't think you'll go wrong.
Not good........2002-03-11
This movie is like all Sidaris' films...boring and silly. The only aspects that are not flat are the actresses. It's an article of faith among me and my friends that this guy only makes movies to give his stable of "actresses" an excuse to change into progressively revealing outfits; that faith is not shaken by this film. Granted, that's a lot of fun, but doesn't make for a very good movie. The absence of plot deters me from commenting upon it.
AMAZING!!!.......2001-12-12
The transfer of the film is astounding... the colors leap off the screen! The movie is great. The added features just make this classic spy flick all the better! The intro with Julie Strain is cool & you also get to see a behind the scenes photo shoot featureng Julie, not to mention a great commentary by Andy & Arlene Sidaris.
Well worth the asking price.
