Lorna, Lisa, and half-pint Souichi from the 2000 OVA head to Southern California to compete in an international car race. In the future, "AI" cars and trucks drive themselves with humans as passive passengers. But when a vehicle goes berzerk or someone reprograms it, the eX-Drivers swing into action. The focus of the story is a behind-the-scenes rivalry between the sponsors of the American and Chinese teams. The former is a Mafia don-turned-pasta-magnate, the latter owns a chain of supermarkets; both are offensive stereotypes. Occasional jiggle shots and groping jokes break up the surprisingly cheesy animation CG of the race and the many car chases. But the adolescent boys who make up the target audience for this feature probably won't be troubled by these flaws. The short Nina & Rei Danger Zone is included as a bonus. (Rated 13 and older: violence, mild sexual humor, ethnic stereotypes) --Charles Solomon

Description

Bill Cosby, Raquel Welch and Harvey Keitel head an all-star cast in this wildly inventive comedy about an ambulance service funny enough to cause their own medical emergency. To beat out competing ambulance services, an ace driver (Cosby), an office secretary/paramedic (Welch) and a suspended cop (Keitel) resort to some outrageous behavior to help people in distress. They're a crew whose condition is even more critical than their clients!

5 out of 5 stars a blast from the past.......2007-06-27

what a retro trip this movie takes, funny to see younger versions of the stars, and check out gasoline prices as they cruise the streets.

5 out of 5 stars EMS at it's best........2007-03-17

I'm an EMT, and while my job is almost nothing like Mother, Jugs and Speed, this movie is great.

Bill Cosby is hilarious and poignant, and the movie is well written. It's filmed with a raw reality and grit that just doesn't exist in film anymore.

If you are an EMT of medic, or not, you'll like this flick.

5 out of 5 stars Mother, Jugs & Speed.......2007-03-10

Highly recommended to all EMS personnel.... Makes you happy that things DO CHANGE!!!! For those of us that are 'old EMS people' brings back some funny times and things that is and has been a growing for all of Emergency Medicine.

3 out of 5 stars Not The Best Welch Picture.......2007-02-16

I never though I would say this about a Raquel Welch picture but this was not one of her best. Raquel Welch plays the role of Jugs (Jennifer), Bill Cosby plays the role of Mother and Harvey Keitel plays the role of Tony Malatesta. There's a rival going on in Los Angeles and it has nothing to do with sports. This rivalry involves two privately owned ambulance companies both wanting the cities ambulance contract. Enters Mother who is the veteran driver of the wildest crew on the block who thinks rules are meant to be broken. Enters Harvey Keitel who's a cop on suspension for suspicion of drug peddling to minors who needs to pay the rent. Welch is the dispatch secretary with secret ambitions who won't give the boys in the bunkhouse the time of day. Drama and comedy bleed together over who makes the right decisions to land them in the money and keep them out of the hospital. I guess the reason I don't like this film as much as the rest is because I'm used to seeing Raquel in bath suits and shorts not in over hauls. Despite Welch clothing I still would give this movie 7 weasel stars.

5 out of 5 stars a classic with humor and heart.......2007-01-10

As a former paramedic, I can relate to all the characters in this movie, it is funny yet serious and shows the brutal truth that underpaid medics face each day in America. Bill Cosby is at his best.

Kevin (Jon Bon Jovi) is sleeping with Nina (Annabella Sciorra), who's already dating Kevin's best friend Adam (Josh Charles), who still hasn't gotten over Kate (Joanna Going), who still hasn't gotten over Ann (JoBeth Williams), who has her eye on Rebecca (Penelope Ann Miller), who just moved to town... and things just get more complicated from there. Writer-director Roberto Benabib wants to be for San Francisco what Woody Allen is for Manhattan, and Little City is full of gorgeous shots of the city. Though his dialogue doesn't quite have the same polish, he does have Allen's knack for sterling ensemble casts; even when the banter doesn't bounce, the actors are completely engaging. Even Miller, who's been so annoying in her earlier movies, is sweet and sympathetic. Charles in particular is superb, but everyone contributes to making this an enjoyable romantic comedy. --Bret Fetzer

Description

Hollywood's hottest young stars light up this wildly funny and outrageously sexy story of love and friendship in the '90s! Best friends Adam (Josh Charles -- TV's SPORTS NIGHT, THREESOME), and Kevin (Jon Bon Jovi -- U-571, PAY IT FORWARD) have a lot in common. Probably too much! In fact, Kevin is carrying on a torrid affair with Adam's girlfriend, Nina (Annabella Sciorra -- WHAT DREAMS MAY COME, COP LAND), on the side! And if this triangle wasn't crowded enough, the arrival of a seductive newcomer in town, Rebecca (Penelope Ann Miller -- THE RELIC, CARLITO'S WAY), promptly adds a whole new set of twists to an already tangled mix! Here's a hilarious look at how modern relationships have never been so complicated ... or so much fun!

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Predoctable, but still enjoyable - mainly due to good acting.......2005-03-07

This is a story about 5- 6 people from San Francisco whose love lives are entangled.

The movie bases a lot of its incidents on this improbable scenatrio, but the good acting from the entire cast saves the day.

5 out of 5 stars Little City is a Big Film!.......2003-12-02

A wonderful ensemble cast give this movie someone for everyone to enjoy watching. The beautiful Joanna Going, Penelope Ann Miller,Annabella Sciorra, and JoBeth Williams all are superb. With some adult themes and content this movie is probably not suitable for young children, but, there is nothing that can be considered dirty in the movie. The male stars are Josh Charles and Jon Bob Jovi of Rock & Roll fame. Sort of a modern "St. Elmos Fire" type of movie.

4 out of 5 stars Better than "Chasing Amy".......2002-05-17

If you liked "Chasing Amy" but were not totally satisfied with it in some way or another, you might find "Little City" better in many ways. I did. I tend to easily fall for comedies with witty, sarcastic lines, and plots that don't strain themselves in a silly way to happy endings. So this movie really got me. The script, while not offering quite unpredictable twists and turns, was beautifully written and brought to life by a strong cast: Annabelle Sciorra, Penelope Ann Miller, Joanna Going, JoBeth Williams, Josh Charles and Jon Bon Jovi (speaking of this guy, you got to see him in "Moonlight and Valentino" too -- he's awesome). One thing that surprised me was that IMDB didn't list any "memorable quote" from this film, as there's quite a lot that'd make you burst out laughing every 5 minutes or so. Apart from the mysterious acronym "O.G.T." (as later explained by Adam), I particularly enjoyed this dialogue: (Kate) "Every relationship gets a bit domestic after a certain point, we could have worked on it". (Anne) "We shouldn't have to work on it. It isn't a crossword puzzle. It's passion. And quite frankly, we ran out of it"... Okay, I better not give away more. Your turn to find it all out.

3 out of 5 stars Relationships.......2001-08-16

Definitely a relationship movie!! This movie is about a group of single adults who each have their own relationship issues and sexual preferences. This movie is about how they deal with these, work through them and accept them via mistakes, counseling/therapy/confession etc. The setting is the small community of San Francisco where it seems everyone knows everyone and therefore secrets and rumors get around quickly.

This is the first movie I have seen Jon Bon Jovi in and I was impressed. He actually can act! I thought the movie started out slow, but as it progressed and all the characters were introduced it started to get very interesting and I was curious to watch it all unfold and I wondered who was going to end up with who at the end of the movie!

As always Annabella Scioria is great, pretty and believable.

"Little City" is worth watching, just don't expect it to be thrilling, greatly suspenseful or a tear jerker. I doubt it will stir up too much emotion, but all in all it is a good movie.

4 out of 5 stars Character movies, a near-extinct breed.......2001-06-19

Little City provides the viewer with a charged, young energy that seems to have left us behind since the days of movies like "St. Elmos Fire" or "The Big Chill." Seldom does a movie come along that can actually find itself viewable while dealing with an ensemble cast and trying to stick to a cohesive plot. We find all our characters facing their own trials of life in San Franciso. Jon Bon Jovi brings an honest and charming aproach that has been lost from the acting world. It helps his character stand apart at times from the others. Though the supporting cast does throw in some excellent support from Annabella Sciorra (The Sopranos) and Josh Charles(Sport Night). Though it does come up lacking that certain "punch" at the end, I think you will find this movie to be a suprising commentary on growing up under the intense scrutiny of society. Check it out.

The British accents and lingo of Essex Boys are so thick it may help to watch with subtitles--but the moviemaking is clear and crisp. Billy (Charlie Creed-Miles) is a cabdriver who starts getting chauffeuring gigs with some shady characters. But his life remains mild until he's sent to pick up Jason (Sean Bean from Ronin and Lord of the Rings), a short-fused mobster who's just been released from five years in prison. Jason quickly decides to settle some old scores and drags Billy along for the ride. Soon Billy is part of a mob--and finds he likes the money and status that go with it, despite the misgivings of his girlfriend and of his former mentor, Mr. D (Tom Wilkinson). When Jason's volatile jealousy leads him to mistreat his wife Lisa (Alex Kingston from ER), things take a turn for the worse and Billy gets in deeper than he ever expected. In its rough plot outlines, Essex Boys resembles Goodfellas--but the particular British flavor makes this a very different movie. Its gritty realism and attention to detail also separate it from the empty flash of Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels; Essex Boys earns its suspense with sharp writing, strong performances all around, and lean, tight direction. An excellent addition to the recent spate of gangster flicks. --Bret Fetzer

Description

A riveting thriller in the powerful tradition of RESERVOIR DOGS, ESSEX BOYS stars Alex Kingston (TV's ER, THE CROUPIER) and Sean Bean (THE LORD OF THE RINGS, RONIN) in an unforgettable story about a dark criminal underworld where seduction and betrayal are a way of life! When ex-con Jason Locke (Bean) is released from prison, he returns home and realizes that his old cohorts have all profited from the empire he helped build. Trusting no one and attempting to restore his reputation and authority, he sets off a chain of events that shakes up the underworld! Also starring Tom Wilkinson (THE PATRIOT, SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE) and Charlie Creed-Miles (THE FIFTH ELEMENT) -- the action explodes with Locke's maniacal bid to shift the balance of power!

5 out of 5 stars British Equivalent of Goodfellas -- and Just as Good.......2007-03-20

If you like your films with grit and non-sentimentality, then this film is for you.

The ensemble cast is as good as any group Scorcese or Tarantino have put together. Only, these actors are from the mean streets of Essex, England.

The highly underrated (by American audiences) Sean Bean (Boromir, Agent 006 and countless other memorable film characters) brings a realism to his psychotic character worthy of DeNiro and Pesci. (As an aside, Bean also starred alongside DeNiro in an international thriller, Ronin, and more than held his own with the New York City icon).

Alex Kingston (of E.R. fame) brings multiple dimensions to her character as the woman who is controlled by the men in her life and eventually needs to wrest the control for herself.

Tom Wilkinson (of The Full Monty, The Governess and In the Bedroom) adds a touch of crude elegance to his role as a high caliber drug pin.

If you have a hard time with the accents (which can get thick at times) then put on the English subtitles and sit back and enjoy. There is violence, but not more than most American crime films. This films has lots of action, but mostly it has good actors working from a good script, which isn't always the case in these kinds of films.

5 out of 5 stars WOW............2007-01-03

What a great movie......kills the Sopranos in all aspects, actually the Essex boys can kick Tony Sopranos butt.......This movie is the real deal, i'ts as close to a mobsters life you can get in real time Essex, England.

FANTASTIC !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4 out of 5 stars Essex Boys.......2006-11-06

More violence than I normally like to watch, got the video because it had Sean Bean and was quite surprised by it. It takes considerable acting skill to be as good-looking as he is and make you not notice it. If I'd never seen the Sharpe series or anything else except Essex Boys and someone asked me to describe Bean, I would have said "tall, blond and ugly as homemade sin" because somehow, all you see is the dark, misshapen soul of the sick character he plays.
The acting and photography are all good, although the accents were too thick for my American ears, had to use sub-titles. The story was too sad and too violent for my taste, felt depressed as much as entertained. But if you like the genre, this is a well-made and engrossing film.

4 out of 5 stars Very Good British Crime Drama!.......2006-10-19

"Essex Boys" is a very good British gangster flick. The main character Jason Locke (Sean Bean) has just been released from prison. After a very long stay, he finds that he is on the outside looking in. With the drug ecstasy making some of his former friends and acquaintances a fortune, he decides that he wants in on the action. And not just a little action, but a partnership. However, he is asking for more than he bargained for.

Enter John Dyke (Tom Wilkinson) who has already had his feel of prison; and although he is running drugs [on a low key basis] Jason Locke demands that he be made a partner with full entitlement to funds from the lucrative drug market. The problem is that Jason Locke is too wild in his ways, whereas John Dyke wants to be low key. Moreover, John has already stated that he doesn't ever want to see the inside of a prison again, and will do anything to see this never happens again: And for him, Jason Locke is a threat.

Another character in the film, Billy (Creed-Miles) is the only sympathetic character in the film. He is not a killer or bad person, he just hangs out with the wrong crowd. He has been hired by Jason to be his driver. At the same time, he is an acquaintance of John Dyke. Events occur [no spoilers] in which Billy finds he is not safe anywhere. The film is great, and Sean Bean gives an outstanding performance as a hot-headed ex-con, who finds he has pushed John Dyke a little too far. Highly recommended. [Stars: 4.5]

5 out of 5 stars Is This What It's Like To Be A Gangster?.......2006-09-01

There is nothing attractive about a life of crime as portrayed in this film, and that is one of its strongest suites. Based on actual events, it's a study of criminal existence at its most bleak---and hats off to the filmmakers and the cast for the pristine starkness of it all. There's certainly nothing romantic or cool about these people who respect no one and nothing.
I viewed it because I like the actors and was curious to see what they'd do with material like this. Sean Bean has villainy down to a fine art---but note that his villains aren't charming or any kind of ad for youth to plug into. We don't want to identify with his bad guys, we just want them to get their just deserts. (Bean is all the more a treat when he has an heroic role to sink his teeth into like Sharpe, Neil Byrne, or Boromir---even his heroes are flawed, which says something about the roles he chooses---but he is always intriguingly watchable.) Alex Kingston, Tom Wilkinson, and Charlie Creed-Meyers are all uncomfortably fine in their respective roles of abused wife, partner in crime, and hapless wheel-man.
Others have termed this drama "gritty" and that is is, but I think it goes even farther---it is a cautionary tale.

It's no wonder Caught Up only garnered haphazard theatrical release in 1998. Director Darin Scott, who is credited with screenplay nods for Tales from the Hood and Sprung, tosses everything--including the kitchen sink--into this noir rip-off that borrows liberally from Chinatown and Bound but lacks the intelligent gravity and grace of the first classic or the stylish, tongue-in-cheek fun of the second. Starring Bokeem Woodbine as Darryl, an ex-con who wants to go straight but who keeps finding himself in unlucky circumstances, Caught Up has laughable dialogue and terrible bug-eyed over-emoting that tries to pass for acting, and wastes the laconic beauty of One False Move costar Cynda Williams, as a femme fatale named Vanessa Dietrich (honest!). Vanessa wraps Darryl around her little finger and embroils him in a voodoo-esque drug plot that will have the viewer rolling on the floor in disbelief. Had Caught Up played its convoluted plot for laughs, it may have at least been a camp parody on the genre, but as it is, it doesn't avoid a single cinematic cliché. Caught Up is a goofy mess of contradictions and implausibility. --Paula Nechak

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars It has cought up with my interest.......2005-09-07

It was basically a decent movie. The plots keep flipping on you. The first part is silly, but what can you say about the 'hood'? That acid on the head was a bit much though. And they never let us know how the fortune teller finds him. She had to know about him. Glad to see that he was able to finally open his club and get his son.

4 out of 5 stars ISSUES.......2005-09-05

IT WAS A GOOD STORY LINE AND IT REALLY SHOWED THE COMPANY YOU KEEP CAN GET YOU IN ALOT OF TROUBLE SEE IT YOU'LL LIKE IT

3 out of 5 stars Must By As Cynda Williams is from my Hometown.......2002-07-12

I thought it was a very very good suspenseful movie that was a bit biazarre at times but still a good watch. I am very proud of Cynda's performance and, I am amazed at her rapid growth as an actress. Good Flick...........

1 out of 5 stars A REALLY HORRIBLE MOVIE.......2002-02-21

This might be the most terrible movie ever made. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

5 out of 5 stars EXTRAORDINARY SUSPENSE AND THRILLS!!!.......2000-08-11

It is truly amazing how someone can be 'Caught Up' in someone else's stupidity and Woodine should have realized that after getting out of prison. But instead, he continues to be caught up in lust, love and money. This was a GREAT movie all the way through. Rent it, buy it, just see it!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Una película extremadamente graciosa.......2007-03-17

5 out of 5 stars Worth Watching.......2004-03-24

Wounded Hearts is definitely worth watching. I enjoyed it fully. It is a low budget film, but don't judge the movie by it's budget. The actors were unknown to me, but all delivered moving performances. Jay becomes a drunk after his pregnant wife is killed in an auto accident. His mother helps him to care for his young daughter. He loses his high paying job and resorts to driving a Taxi to make money. His brother-in-law owns a club which he showcases his jazz musician skills at here and there. What can I say. This is a great little OVA, especially if you happen to be a car lover, or you happen to have a soft spot for anything with a Lotus or Lancia badge on it.

The story is set in the future where cars are driven by AI computers and most people have lost the ability to drive. However, the AIs sometimes glitch, sending the cars wild. Enter the eX-Drivers: Lisa, Lorna and Souichi, driving 20th century cars, tasked with chasing down the run-aways and reighning them in (preferably) before they can do any serious damage.

One thing I really did like about this (apart from that it features some of my favorite vehicles) is that often the characters dress in period clothes associated with their cars.

The only real problems I had with it were that the people who did the dub into English obviously didn't take the time to research the cars they were talking about. Hence the car names are invariably miss-pronounced, to the point of calling the Lotus Europa as "European Model Lotus". The OTHER problem was that it was way to short (only 6 episodes).

Personally, I really enjoyed this. A must buy for any fans of old cars.

4 out of 5 stars A Great Little OVA, especially if you like cars.......2004-03-29

This is the kind of anime to watch when you feel tired or sad; it's very pretty, easygoing, and doesn't make a lot of demands on your intelligence or emotions. I found "Ex-Driver" a charming, relatively lighthearted show with a ridiculous premise which allows the animators to show us many scenes of pretty girls driving fast cars. Kosuke Fujishima's familiar character designs (Oh My Goddess, You're Under Arrest, Sakura Wars) and his love for mechanical devices are on display as Lisa, Lorna and Souichi do their work saving a near future Tokyo (considerably cleaner and more elegant looking than today) from runaway AI cars. Characterization is okay but simple; as usual with Fujishima, the characters are very distinct and somewhat stereotyped, but I liked them anyway and found them fun to watch. The animation is better than it had to be; some of the jerkyness that another Amazon reviewer described as "dicey" comes from the relatively low frame rate of anime in general. The cars are very well realized for such complex machines. I understand that Fujishima's manga of the same title goes into more plot and character development; the anime basically contents itself with an episodic story. In short a light, amusing, friendly anime with a little fan service and a lot of "car service." Enjoy!

4 out of 5 stars Ex-Driver 2 Disc Review.......2004-02-29

Set in the future we find a majority of the vehicle are AI. The Ex-Drivers are a speicalised group of people who chase down and stop the cars.
It is kind of sad that the series was only six episodes. It should have been a little longer. Car detailing is rather good and there is a bit of exaggerated manuvering on the part of the way the cars handle but that is expected. Overall a good clean show, with a small amount of sexual situations. Older woman with younger male character.

4 out of 5 stars Good for car fans.......2003-12-22

This is a nice little 6 episode OAV which takes place in the future where nobody knows how to drive and all the cars are computerized, save for the eX-Driver organization. Occasionally, these computer controlled cars will go out of control, and these eX-Drives exsist to stop these vehicles using their fule powered vehicles, special driving techniques, and various equipment. The storyline is decent and the animation is okay although occasionally the vehicle animation can be a bit dodgy. The last 3 episodes developes a deeper storyline as it progresses and previous members are revealed. But if you are a fan of cars (all fule powered cars are modled from actual vehicles and even use sound bytes taken from them), then you should find this DVD to be entertaining.

4 out of 5 stars Very good series, though short.......2003-08-15

Definitely a very memorable series overall. There is action to be found in Ex-driver, but don't watch it looking for a body count. The animation for the cars, characters, and scenery are very well done, and the voice dubbing isn't too bad either. The story could have used a little more developing, and I feel that they might have been better off making it into a 2 hour movie rather than 6 25 minute episodes. I watched the series by renting it, and I plan to buy the set when it comes out. It's a great buy, and a must for anyone that's into anime and cars.

3 out of 5 stars DRIVING ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD.......2006-07-11

The series started on the two Ex-Driver OVA volumes continues with a full-length (if you consider 64 minutes full-length) movie featuring Lorna, Lisa, and Souichi. If you haven't watched the series, in the future, all vehicles are controlled by AI computer systems, but even these systems experience malfunctions. When these glitches occur, the Ex-Drivers, drivers who still know how to manually drive cars, are called in to stop the runaway vehicles. In the movie, an Ex-Driver convention is being held in Los Angeles which culminates in a race of the most skilled drivers from different countries from around the world. Of course, upon first arriving our heroes have to deal with a runaway car. Its passenger is the daughter of the sponsor of the American Ex-Driver team, who used to be a mob boss but reformed and became a pasta magnate. Lorna, Lisa, and Souichi will find themselves becoming more deeply involved in the intrigue and plots to sabotage the race than in the actual competition itself. This dvd also includes a bonus feature called "Danger Zone" in which two supporting characters, Nina and Rei, from the OVAs take centerstage in a story that happened when the current cast were still in diapers.

I really liked the original show, but to me the movie just seemed like more episodes and had very little improvement in the animation like you would expect. The story didn't grab me either. The character interaction that I'm used to was absent. Both the movie and the episode were cliched, and while entertaining, didn't add anything to the overall tale of the main characters. With the two volumes of the OVA, this concept of Ex-Driver was played out. You just can't do much with car chases after a while.

5 out of 5 stars cool ride.......2006-05-04

I got this DVD due to I'm a speed racer fan,

and like to see more car anime,
I was happy to get this one.

the kid reminds me of a young speed racer
as he and 2 girls help the cops to
stop CGI robot cars that gong rouge.

and they compete in car races as well,

the action is good as the CGI cars
mix with the hand drawn anime drivers well
good CGI affects.

as for popular anime voices
the boy "souichi" voices is tie
from digimon,

and one of the men in the movie
voies is rick hunter from robotech.

I was even blown away as
this movie even had a big robot truck
among to the mammoth car from speed racer
as it plows in to the race track smashing the racers.

if your a big fan of the 70's
speed racer,

you'll get a kick out of this DVD.

4 out of 5 stars extremely violent.......2007-05-29

the screenplay really wanted to tell you something but lost its focus and turned it into a messy killing melodrama.
i guess at first, the screenwriters wanted to tell a sad and tough story and situation of the woman who was forced to pay her runaway husband's gambling mounting debts, and she really worked so hard to pay a debt she shouldn't be holden responsible, but unfortunately, after putting too many threads in it, it mixed up and lost focus.
okay, dog fights gambles, kgb clan, collector gangbanger, cops, thug head's girl friend needed plastic surgery money, the chain link betrayals, three mice-like small timers got the last laugh and took the money away, messy fighting scenes, violent hitting women scenes, followed the scent of the money....guess that's still the way to treat women like this in korea? or it's just a false scenario of a korean movie?
well, this movie could be much much better, because it's seriously done, but nothing really well developed, it had to end up on a beach with two helpless women facing an ocean of uncertainty.

With lots of high-speed car chases, flashy driving maneuvers, and cleavage shots, this six-part OAV is ideal viewing for adolescent males. All that's missing are interesting characters and credible stories. In the future, humans are passive passengers in self-propelled AI cars and trucks. But when a vehicle goes haywire or gets reprogrammed, the teenage eX-Drivers go into action. The tension between brash Lisa and half-pint Souichi continues from the last disc, aggravated by the arrival of motorcyclist-vamp Rei. In the two-part finale, ex-eX-Driver Joe Todo ("he strayed from the path") and his gang of punks terrorize the city with their gasoline-powered cars--until Souichi outsmarts them in a race. Joe sees the light and returns to the path of virtue--a conversion no more improbable than the rest of the story. (Rated 13 and older, but more appropriate for over 15: brief nudity, profanity, tobacco use, cartoon violence) --Charles Solomon

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars AN EX EX-DRIVER WANTS REVENGE.......2006-04-15

As if the competition between Lisa and Souichi wasn't bad enough, there's another ex-driver visiting the city, Rei, whose motorcycle skills might put her beyond either of their levels. It doesn't sit well with Lisa that Rei also seems to busting a few moves with her bust and naked body on her under-age comrade Souichi, whose primary reaction is sweating and blushing. It seems as if maybe Lisa has a little more interest in her rival and classmate than she wants to admit. The last two episodes on the dvd concern the arrival of Joe Todo and his gasoline powered street car gang. Joe used to be an ex-driver but he was seen as too wild and uncontrolled so he was fired. Now he's back to seek revenge by putting the ex-drivers out of commission and terrorizing the city streets. In the end it's up to Souichi to beat Joe in a no-holds barred race to the finish!

I really enjoyed this show even though the basic plot premise seems a bit boring. The kinetic action of the pristine animation and the great sound of authentic racing engines combined with some very likeable characters combine to make something unique. And Rei...the hotness factor went up a bit with her erotic design to make little boys pine and slobber. The only complaint I have is that there are only two volumes of the series.
