Amazon.com essential video

Just the name "Orient Express" conjures images of a bygone era. Add an all-star cast (including Sean Connery, Ingrid Bergman, Jacqueline Bisset, and Lauren Bacall, to name a few) and Agatha Christie's delicious plot and how can you go wrong? Particularly if you add in Albert Finney as Christie's delightfully persnickety sleuth, Hercule Poirot. Someone has knocked off nasty Richard Widmark on this train trip and, to Poirot's puzzlement, everyone seems to have a motive--just the setup for a terrific whodunit. Though it seems like an ensemble film, director Sidney Lumet gives each of his stars their own solo and each makes the most of it. Bergman went so far as to win an Oscar for her role. But the real scene-stealer is the ever-reliable Finney as the eccentric detective who never misses a trick. --Marshall Fine

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Murder on the Orient Express.......2007-07-04

An unrecognizable Finney transforms himself into Agatha Christie's renowned Belgian sleuth, Hercule Poirot. Beyond this star's astonishing portrayal, the fun of this whodunit comes from the fascinating assortment of characters he interrogates, played by some of our most accomplished acting veterans: Lauren Bacall, Ingrid Bergman, Sean Connery, Wendy Hiller, and John Gielgud among them. Predictably, in addition to Finney, old pros Hiller and Gielgud steal the show. "Murder" should be nirvana for any mystery lover, and director Lumet gives the film plenty of period charm and atmosphere.

5 out of 5 stars Unlike so many DVD's, this one is worth owning.......2007-07-03

I remember seeing this movie when I was 5 years old in 1974. Fortunately for me, I forgot "whodunit" and was able to enjoy when I saw it again as a teenager. Having viewed the movie at least 20 times since then, I find it hard to see how plebian works like "The Usual Suspects" garner such rave reviews when such obviously better fare like this exist. Everyone involved in this film gives it their finest effort. Only with many viewings does one get the opportunity to observe the details that are so interwoven into the script and acting. The story is among the most perfect murder mysteries ever penned, and the performance of the cast is resplendent. Throughout, the cast crackles with sparking witty dialog that is matched perfectly with the deftest of facial expressions and gestures that continuously lay clues at your feet until your so confused that you'll be begging at the conclusion to find out who the murderer is.

So few movies stand up to repeated viewing and thus are seldom worth the cost of the DVD or the space it takes up in your home. Buy this movie so you can watch it, so that your parents can watch it, your children and your grandchildren. Heck, you will probably want to mention it in your will!

5 out of 5 stars Beautifully Realized: A Classic Of Its Kind.......2007-07-01

In the early 1960s Agatha Christie (1890-1976) sold the film rights to several of her most celebrated novels--and although the public liked the ensuing films, she herself did not. She was forever after suspicious of the film industry and rejected one offer after another until the early 1970s, when Lord Louis Mountbatten interceded on behalf of son-in-law and film producer John Brabourne for the film rights to MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS. Christie reluctantly agreed. In 1974, upon seeing the film, she declared it to be the ONLY film version of any of her novels that she liked.

The story is famous. Hercule Poirot (Albert Finney) is a celebrated private investigator traveling via the legendary Orient Express. The train is snowbound in the Balkans--and Mr. Rachett (Richard Widmark) is found brutally stabbed in the bed of his luxury room. At the request of Signor Bianchi (Martin Balsam), an official of the train, Poriot agrees to investigate the murder... but the more he learns from the numerous passengers, the more impossible the crime seems.

Even today, most film versions of Christie novels are played with a bit of a twinkle in the eye, as if to say "this is all just in good fun." Not so MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS. The all star cast includes John Gilegud, Lauren Bacall, Ingrid Bergman, Michael York, Jacqueline Bisset, Sean Connery, Vanessa Redgrave, Anthony Perkins, and Rachel Roberts, to name but the most obvious, and they play out the story with tremendous style but without the self-knowing cuteness that tends to undercut most similar films. The novel is among the more convoluted Christie works, but the Paul Dehn manages to encapsulate it without simplifying it. And then there is the look and sound and feel of the movie, which is simply amazing.

The Orient Express had passed into legend by 1974, but this film returns the celebrated luxury train to sparkling reality. From costumes to art design, from cinematography to score, MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS is so richly detailed that it becomes an almost tactile experience. This is truly an example of "no expense spared." The film was nominated for no fewer than six Academy Awards, winning one for Ingrid Bergman, and was also nominated for no fewer than seventeen awards from other groups, winning at least six. All in all, it was one of the most celebrated films of its era.

For many years MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS was only available in mediocre VHS and DVD transfers, but this particular edition not only returns the film to a near-pristine state, it includes several memorable bonuses as well, most especially a "making of" documentary that includes many of the cast members; a short documentary on Agatha Christie; and a short documentary on the Lindberg kidnapping, which was among Christie's inspirations for the novel. Slick, beautiful, and seductive, the 1974 MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS sets a standard for mystery movies that few have equaled--and none have surpassed. Strongly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars The Best of Christie.......2007-06-12

Murder on the Orient Express is undoubtedly the best Christie mystery ever filmed. Not only is the acting superb, the producers and writers stayed very close to the original novel in their presentation, which was not true in later Christie presentations by the same production team. But in Orient Express one gets a real feel for what it was like to travel from Istanbul on the Calais Coach.

5 out of 5 stars Christie's best.......2007-05-29

The best of the movies from Christie's books, Well done and a lot of fun.

Well, bless my beautiful hide! Director Stanley Donen invests this rollicking musical with a hearty exuberance. Howard Keel, with his big-as-all-outdoors baritone, stars as a bold "mountain man" living in the Oregon woods who brings home a bride (plucky songbird soprano Jane Powell) to his six slovenly brothers. Taming the rambunctious brood, Jane proceeds to make gentlemen of them so they can woo sweethearts of their own. But old habits die hard: their flirting gives way to fighting in the film's celebrated barn-raising scene, a lively acrobatic dance number exuberantly choreographed by Michael Kidd. Big brother chimes in with his own brand of advice--an old-fashioned kidnapping! Donen manages to get away with such a politically incorrect plot by investing the boys with a innocent sweetness, most notably the youngest brother played with genial earnestness by Rusty (Russ) Tamblyn (pre-West Side Story). This modest production became a huge hit and remains one of MGM's best-loved musical comedies, an energetic, high-kicking classic. --Sean Axmaker

Description

Howard Keel and Jane Powell are rapturous newlyweds who tame his six rowdy bachelor brothers in the wild Oregon backwoods in this Best Score Academy Award(R)-winning song-and-dance-filled comedy.

5 out of 5 stars A Great Musical!.......2007-05-10

To start with this set of 2 DVDs came in an excellent case making for good storage. While the Cinemascope version on disc one is most enjoyable with top class reproduction of image as well as sound, the second disc with the alternate widescreen version is nearly as good and it is difficult to see the difference. The Commentary by Derector Donen is most informative and shows how in spite of odds against it the movie was made into a great masterpiece. The Donen Trailer galary gives useful priew of some movies making a purchase decission of these essier. On disc 2 we have "making of the the movie" as also MGM Jubilee Overgture, both of which are worth watching and listening to. Bonus material on both the discs hence are enjoyable. The movie itself has great songs with wonderful music and dances from start to finish, especially that at the barn raising event. The subtle comedy is also very much enjoyable.

Attempting to do for Westerns what his Guns of Navarone had done for World War II action epics, director J. Lee Thompson crafted Mackenna's Gold as a lavish, absurdly ambitious variation on Erich Von Stroheim's Greed, resulting in a last-gasp Western so eager to encompass the genre's traditions that it turns into a big, silly, wildly entertaining mess. Gregory Peck surely had more serious intentions when he signed on, and he brings prestigious gravitas to his glum role as Marshall Mackenna, who gets shanghaied into searching for the gold-filled canyon of an elusive Apache legend. The rest of the 1969 film labors to undermine Peck's respectable demeanor; how else to explain Omar Sharif as a Mexican villain, Julie Newmar as a hot-blooded Apache temptress (with underwater nude scenes that were celebrated in Playboy magazine), and a jaw-dropping finale that's so ridiculous it's impressive in spite of itself?

Formerly blacklisted screenwriter Carl Foreman and composer Dimitri Tiomkin joined up to coproduce the film, and one can only imagine how Anthony Mann or Howard Hawks might've handled Foreman's sensible script. Thompson goes for scenic splendor, heavy action, and heavier emotions, casting everything at a fever pitch that's wildly enjoyable without betraying his "serious" intentions. A stable of Hollywood veterans (Eli Wallach, Raymond Massey, Edward G. Robinson, and others) appear in lively supporting roles--they're all dispatched in a garish Apache ambush--and Camilla Sparv is an ingénue with plenty of fighting attitude. Gold fever reaches its peak, along with some awesome special effects, and divine intervention reaches new heights of intensity. Top it off with José Feliciano's theme song, and you'll be in zany Western heaven. --Jeff Shannon

4 out of 5 stars I know this place. It's Shaking Rock..no gold around there.......2007-06-28

Gregory Peck and some of the biggest names in the movie industry saddle up in search of the 'Lost Adams' or 'Canyon del Oro' mine. This is one action packed western. Jose Feliciano's `Old Turkey Buzzard' plays background score to scenic desert cinematography as everyone rides off in search of gold. Just keep in mind that the film was shot in 1969 and so to my knowledge has no CGI's (Computer-generated imagery). There are some modeling and interesting editing in some of the action shots (crossing the bridge sequence, etc). Look past this and enjoy the adventure as gold fever strikes everyone in this very entertaining movie. Wonderful panoramic visual treats combined with a great story make this a must for action and western lovers. Well worth the ride to Shaking Rock.

5 out of 5 stars Great Western.......2007-06-27

MacKenna's Gold is a great old color western about a hunt for a canyon of treasure. Well known actors and a great story that holds your attention.

Excellent scenery throughout the movie, a refreshing movie to watch at any age.Great score of actors.

5 out of 5 stars MacKenna's Gold.......2007-01-09

I advidly enjoy the classical movies made in the 60's,70's, and this one was a particular favorite of mine. I hope more classics will be put on DVD
to be enjoyed now.

3 out of 5 stars A curious serial-like Western melodrama packed with stars and pretensions above its situation..........2006-11-06

The film opens with a narration by Victor Jory about an Apache legend: a hidden canyon, guarded by the Apache gods and rich with gold... As long as the Apaches kept the canyon a secret and never touched the gold, they would be strong and powerful...

Marshal Mackenna (Gregory Peck) wasted three years chasing that wild goose... He immediately knew the place and identified it as 'Shaking Rock' but insisted to the old Apache dying chief who was keeping the map that there is no gold around there: "The only dust I found was prairie dust!"

Before the chief dies, Mackenna destroys the map, confident it is a myth...

When the ludicrous Mexican bandit Colorado (Omar Sharif) appears on the scene with his gang, and discovers the useless burned map, he took Mackenna--his living map--to his hideout in a little box canyon and forced him to lead him to the legendary canyon...

Colorado's gang includes Hesh-Ke (Julie Newmar), an attractively jealous Apache woman who was once involved with Mackenna, Hachita (Ted Cassidy), a strong and deadly Apache warrior, and a captive girl called Inga (Camilla Sparv), daughter of a murdered judge who put a price on Colorado's head...

Along the way, the group is joined by 'good' citizens, dirty scheming ambitious men, a lot of bronco Apaches on the prowl, and the U.S. Cavalry after anybody and everybody... Probably after the gold too...

"Mackenna's Gold" remains a curious serial-like Western melodrama packed with stars and pretensions above its situation... The script completely wastes the fine cast... On a lower level, it is quite enjoyable... Julie Newmar is a delight, a natural beauty and a distinct "presence" that immediately captivates the audience... There are scenic location shots of the vastness of the desert, exciting action scenes, pretty spectacular scenes of danger but all hampered by frustrating special effects...

Gary Cooper makes a dashing, flirtatious explorer-adventurer in The Adventures of Marco Polo, a twinkling account of Polo's 13th century travels from his home in Venice to China, where he established a new east-west trade route. Nothing comes easy, of course, so the film's script (by author Robert E. Sherwood) finds playboy Polo barely surviving his journey only to be sabotaged in his efforts to forge a relationship with emperor Kublai Khan (George Barbier). Polo's rival for Khan's loyalty (and the affections of the emperor's daughter, played by the exotic Sigrid Gurie) is the scheming Ahmed (Basil Rathbone), who has the ruler's ear and is wont to punish enemies by chaining them down for the benefit of hungry vultures. The story's general outrageousness extends to Polo's banishment to a tribe of rebels, led by a henpecked strongman (Alan Hale) whose shrewish wife takes a shine to the Venetian stud and saves him from execution. Directed by Archie Mayo (The Petrified Forest), The Adventures of Marco Polo is glossy fun, led by Cooper's charming, knowing performance and highlighted by the film's unwillingness to take anything too seriously. Scenes in which Polo is introduced to two Chinese inventions--spaghetti and gunpowder--are priceless. --Tom Keogh

2 out of 5 stars Hybrid.......2007-05-18

The problem with Marco Polo is that it couldn't make up its mind whether it was a comedy or swashbuckler. Although I like him, Gary Cooper is miscast in this role (Ronald Colman or Robert Donat would have been better) and the screenplay needed to be more sober. George Barbier's Kubla Khan (sp?) is better suited to a Paramount farce with W.C. Fields. Ernest Truex, with that whiny voice, is almost unbearable. Who comes out on top as usual?....Basil Rathbone. He is the only reason I would watch this film.

4 out of 5 stars A fun adventure movie.......2007-03-15

Much has been made about the "miscasting" of Gary Cooper as the Venetian explorer Marco Polo. However he is one of the best actors Hollywood has ever seen and I don't believe we've seen his equal yet or are likely too anytime soon. He does quite a good job in this pic and it's a fun watch. It's not up there with Sgt. York or Mr. Deeds but you can't go wrong with any film starring Cooper. Also look for Lana Turner in one of her first roles as one of Alan Hale Sr.'s servants.

2 out of 5 stars Marco?.......2007-01-05

I'll always watch Gary Cooper. But as Marco Polo he's just not that good. MGM lavish production seems kind of chinzy. Amusing? Entertaining? Not so much. He hops effortlessly from Venice to China. He messes around with another man's fiancee in the 13th century as 20th century American men were wont to do. Nobody knows what Marco Polo was really like. He brought the west spaghetti & gunpowder. The rest of the story seems like it's from the screenwriters at MGM. The movie ends with Marco taking Princess Kukachin (Sigid Gurie) to her husband in Persia, the long way around. The more time to fool around until she marries. Nice.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT PAIRING OF COOPER and SIGRID.......2003-06-18

Amusing, entertaining.... two words I would use in describing this holiday confection from Samuel Goldwyn. Lavish sets, costumes, music and good performances from Cooper and the Norwegian Sigrid Gurie(she is equally good in THREE FACES WEST with John Wayne).

Sigrid Gurie suffered greatly in her shaky career: At the time mof this film it was found out that she was born in Flatbush, Brooklyn and that the "Siren of the Fjords" was a "fake".

The fact that her parents were Norwegian and moved back to Norway when Sigrid was 11 months was dismissed. (Their ship was not so far the Titanic when it sunk...)

Vivien Leigh was born in Darjeeling, India and Liv Ullmann in Tokyo. They were never labeled as Indian or Japanese. There are many similar examples and why poor Sigrid suffered this idiotic case in unbelivable. Goldwyn indeed called it "a great hoax"... Why Sigrid left Goldwyn after "Algiers" is no wonder.

But she did leave us with this film, ALGIERS and THREE FACES WEST - and she playes each role differently. It`s a shame Goldwyn didn`t look after her - me may have had another star in the tradition of Dietrich and Garbo. Though I must say; SIGRID GURIE had and has a quality and a presence all her own:-)

Finally, a movie for the REI set! For all those mountain-climbing aficionados who devoured Jon Krakauer's Into Thin Air and similar books (as well as the IMAX film Everest), Vertical Limit attempts to translate man-against-the-mountain adventure into compelling, albeit fictional, drama. And while the climbing action is pretty darn breathtaking, somebody forgot to put the brakes on the cliché machine while penning the screenplay. Two siblings (Chris O'Donnell and Robin Tunney) are mentally scarred by a climbing accident in which their father died to save them. She becomes a famous mountain climber (catch that Sports Illustrated cover?); he never climbs again, and becomes a National Geographic photographer. She agrees to accompany a shady billionaire (Bill Paxton) up the icy carapace of K2, the world's second highest mountain; he just happens to be "in the neighborhood" when she starts. After the requisite argument, she sets out, but an avalanche strands her and the billionaire in some kind of underground cavern, and bad weather forbids a daring rescue. It's up to her determined brother to bring her back, along with a ragtag team of rescuers that includes a French-Canadian babe, two wisecracking Aussies, and a crusty old sage (Scott Glenn) who has a few scores to settle.

It's easy to pick out the rest of the story from here (though you probably didn't count on that faulty nitroglycerine, now did you?), but Vertical Limit is less about the hackneyed plot than it is about putting its characters into increasingly dangerous situations and hanging them precariously over various mountainsides. It's a credit to director Martin Campbell (GoldenEye) that the impressive action keeps the film moving along past the bordering-on-absurd plot twists. O'Donnell tosses his mane of fluffy hair admirably, but it's still disheartening to see this once-promising actor turning into a pretty-boy stand-in; only Glenn manages to overcome his character's predictability. Mountaineering enthusiasts will recognize a cameo by world-renowned climber Ed Viesturs, who as an actor proves that he's... a very good mountain climber. --Mark Englehart

2 out of 5 stars NOT BAD HIGH TENSION FILM WOULD RATE 2 1/2 STARS.......2007-06-18

Watching this movie in my home theater really added something to this film. The beautiful scenery and high altitude camera views were enough to give anyone with a fear of heights a heart attack! The movie kept my interest and there were plenty of edge of your seat moments, but there were plenty of moments I was doubled over with laughter too! This movie is not to be taken too seriously. With all that aside I just don't understand why anyone would want to climb mountains. I know it is a sense of accomplishment, but so is taking a dump! To each their own,I guess? Well,...because of the danger involved with mountain climbing, I did not have the sympathy for the characters I would, if they had not put themselvies in the situation they were in. There are plenty of thrilling activities that don't involve this kind of risk. Hey I'm a big guy and there is no way I'm going to trust my life to a couple of thin ropes! Anyway the movie is pretty good "brain dead" fun and worth a 2 1/2 star rating.

4 out of 5 stars Attention All Lunkheads.......2007-04-11

This is addressed to each of those mountaineering purists who have elected to chime in and complain about this film's lack of authenticity. Hello?!!! It's not supposed to be authentic! It's supposed to be exciting, which it is. It's supposed to have thrills, chills and spills, which it does. If they made this film with total authenticity do you know who'd be in the theater? You and 4 other mountain climbers. It's a Hollywood thriller, not a National Geographic documentary. So relax, put your brain in neutral and enjoy this for what it is.

5 out of 5 stars A high-adrenaline movie that takes you breath out.......2007-01-22

The story goes about the most known mountain in the world - K2 (also known as Chogori). The mountain is situated on border between China and Pakistan.
It's the second highest peak in the world (8611m = 28,251 foots).

In 1939 this mountain opened the count to it's victims.
This movie is based on some of unfortunate times of conquest the "King of mountains". Brother and sister who don't talk much to each other after death of there father. And sister - Annie Garrett(Robin Tunney) and her summit team leads a millionaire to the top of mountain. But the mountain don't likes unexpected guests and bring them a little bit of surprise.
The team is trapped in an icy grave at 26,000 feet. Anni's brother don't wanna lose his sister and makes a team to save his sister. But they can't do it without one man, who knows the mountain as his five fingers - old friend of there father - Montgomery Wick. And rescue campaign starts.
What it will bring to them? This you just have to see.
Ice, danger, cold mountain, humour and action, action, action...

One of movies for Gold Home DVD Collection.

3 out of 5 stars Ridiculous but fun.......2006-10-29

This is actually a fun movie to watch if you suspend reality for a couple of hours. Peter and his sister Annie are only barely on speaking terms after a tragic accident claims the life of their father while they are all climbing together. It was Peter's decision to cut a rope that saved the two of them at the cost of their father, and now Annie blames him for it.

Fast forward a few years and both of them are coincidentally at K-2 base camp. Annie is leading a WNN (CNN) news crew to cover the ascent of Elliot Vaughn (Bill Paxton with his usual awful performance with his stupid Bill Paxton acting school voice)a billionaire promoting his new airline. In the process things go awry and Annie gets trapped in an ice cave.

Here is where the ridiculous part comes in. Peter assembles a team of "Darwin Award" winners to climb the mountain and save the survivors. They take your standard climbing gear along with a tube of Nitro glisorine. They apparently don't check the containers which turn out to leak.

Well once you throw nitro into the mix the action gets pretty explosive. It is a race against time for the Darwin Crew to get to the top and blow up the mountain (I guess they are not too afraid of physics or avalanches) and save the survivors. The only disappointing thing about this movie was that no Yeti's either challenged the climbers or helped the survivors out. Yeah the movie is that outlandish. Scott GLenn does fill in slightly as the aged climbing guru with a vengeance.

Don't take this one serious and will be entertaining. The funniest part of the whole film after watching it a second time is with the Pakistani Colonel. He is complaining that he can't properly conduct a war because the climbers are monopolizing the helicopters. That is a shame when tourists (generally responsible ones too) bring in all kinds of money to a region that doesn't have many other options and are criticized because there actions are getting in the way of the war effort.

Paul Pender presents an Oscar worthy performance in this truly outstanding film. Very artistic, yet interesting. Edge of the seat the whole time.

1 out of 5 stars A complete waste of time.......2000-07-15

I assume anybody buying this title is because of Shannon Tweed. Let me tell you, there is only one love scene by Tweed. Therefore I give it one star just for the one love scene (not too bad though). The rest of the girls are nowhere as attractive as Tweed. The plot is ridiculous that is not worth mentioning. The sound quality of the DVD is terrible. You hardly can hear the dialog without turning up your center channel (If you want to hear the dialog at all). If you are looking for entertaining soft porn. Look elsewhere. Avoid this at all cost. One last note, this movie also known as "Singapore Sling" so don't be fooled.

4 out of 5 stars could be better.......2000-06-16

First of all, this film is very short. It should have been much better in length as well as content. If your a Tweed fan, I recommend Scorned.

2 out of 5 stars DOWN COMES THE MOUNTAIN.......2007-01-28

Considering the premise has already been utilized in a movie called AVALANCHE, this little movie isn't all that bad but it's far from classic cinema.
A new condominium complex is endangered by irresponsible blasting and since there is a villain out to keep his name clean, the resulting landslide is not a surprise. Once again, we have a hero who is estranged from his wife and son, and a corporate biggie who is the wife's daddy, too. Everything pretty much goes as expected and unfortunately the special effects are pretty inadequate.
For disaster movie freakos, this one's passable.

4 out of 5 stars Good Movie!.......2007-01-25

This movie starts out a little slow for the first thirty minutes but in the middle it really starts to take off. There is a lot of action and suspence and it leaves you on the edge of your seat the whole time! Great ending and worth seeing!!

2 out of 5 stars So Deep It is hard to uncover the story........2006-12-30

At least 3 times I have started watching this Buried Alive movie,... it is just so dumb and so boring I stop and eject it every time. I agree with another reviewer-this movie must be filled with Soap Opera actors/B Movie stars. Don't waste your time or money on this movie. It is slow and I suppose there is some moral there but I am not sure what. I saw a review of this movie where it is referred to as 4 obituaries,... which must say a lot about the plot and signifigance of it. Well enough said. You review it if you want to waste time.

3 out of 5 stars So So.......2006-12-28

After wathching 10.5 this disaster movie brought me back to earth real quick..
It was watcheable but played more like a soap opera with all these sub-plots.
Buy it second hand....

Description

Join daredevil glacionauts for a plunge into a hidden waterworld.

Mont Blanc, western Europe's highest peak, rises majestically in the Alps. But deep inside its massive glaciers lurks a hidden danger-killer lakes with the potential to burst free—just as they did in 1892 when a mid-summer torrent of cascading mud and water claimed 200 lives. Armed with high-tech gear and boundless courage, a NOVA team goes where no one has gone before—deep inside the sub-freezing waters of Mont Blanc's 1000-foot-thick Mer de Glace ("Sea of Ice").

Looking for clues to find out if Mt. Blanc's historic catastrophe is ready to repeat itself, scientists dive into the eerie inner world of glacial cracks, crevasses, ice shafts, water wells, and tunnels, searching for the dangerous hidden lakes.

Descent Into the Ice gives you the most intimate look at mountain glaciers ever filmed. Spectacular footage captures these icy behemoths in motion from above and, most astoundingly, from below-while a new breed of explorers known as "glacionauts" reveal the mountain's uniquely beautiful and threatening waterworld.

Special DVD features include: materials and activities for educators; a link to the NOVA Web site; scene selections; closed captions; and described video for the visually impaired.

Although beautifully made this movie will only be interesting for people who are in love with glacier stuff. A team in search of lakes hidden under the glaciers of mount blanc of Europe is depicted in this movie. A great deal of information on how do they go inside the glacier, what equipments are used, how the blockage of water is detected from top to bottom flow of water by adding colour to it and all that stuff. Watch worthy and value for money for those who are interested.
