Description

Featuring Uncensored Footage Not Seen In The Sci Fi Channel Broadcast! It has been sighted 42,000 times in 68 countries, a vicious creature of myth and legend called Sasquatch, Yeti, and perhaps most infamously, Bigfoot. We've hunted it for years. But what happens when it decides to hunt us? For newly paraplegic mountain climber Preston Rogers (Matt McCoy), the horror hits home when this ravenous beast attacks a remote forest community. Will its next hot meal be a group of knucklehead hunters (including Lance Henriksen of ALIENS & Jeffrey Combs of RE-ANIMATOR), a skeptical police chief (Paul Gleason of DIE HARD), a cabin full of nubile co-eds (including Ashley Hartman of THE O.C.), or a trapped Preston himself? Rex Linn (CSI: MIAMI) and Dee Wallace-Stone (CUJO) co-star in this wild and gruesome horror shocker that Fangoria calls "the best serious fright film ever made about Bigfoot!"

4 out of 5 stars Very well done movie.......2007-06-10

When i first saw this movie on Sci-Fi channel, i wasn't really sure about the film at first, however, after seeing it on TV, i truly loved the film and then when i saw it on Amazon, i knew i had to have it cause its that good. There hasn't been a decent Sci-Fi channel original movie in some time till this movie was made, i was truly surprised by it and it has now become one of my favs. This movie is a great pick up to any horror fan and worth the money. Highly Recommended!!

4 out of 5 stars Suprisingly good!.......2007-05-27

Low budget horror can be good. Who knew? After the garbage that fills Blockbuster (especially those cheap Asylum "movies") I went into this movie and didnt expect much, and was suprised to find this movie entertaining. Definitely worth a rent.

4 out of 5 stars One Sassy Sasquatch!..........2007-04-11

Okay, yes, the creature does resemble a titanic hillbilly. However, he's just big and vicious enough to make up for it! I mean, he bites a guys face off for heaven's sake! As for the plot, it's fairly basic, yet kept me watching, cringing, and laughing in all the right spots. Matt McCoy makes a great wheelchair-bound Preston Rogers, overcoming impossible odds to battle the hideous yeti. Haley Joel (Amanda) is believable in her terror. Of course, Tiffany Shepis is awesome as always! Her character is bumped off in one of the best death scenes I've ever seen! Then, there's the use of horror legends Jeffrey Combs (Re-Animator, From Beyond, Castle Freak), Lance Henriksen (Aliens, Near Dark, Millenium), and Dee Wallace-Stone (Cujo, The Howling, The Frighteners) in cool cameos! We even get Paul Gleason (Breakfast Club, Trading Places, Die Hard) as the sheriff! Oh yeah, this movie is a keeper...

4 out of 5 stars The Hendersons Wouldn't Be Too Happy With This Guy.......2007-02-19

One of the greatest of guilty pleasures is the Bigfoot genre. About 99% of these films are total schlock, coz really, how serious can you take the concept of a rampaging Bigfoot? Abominable is a neat little film that's not afraid to realize it's schlocky nature, but at the same time has the balls to attempt moments of suspense. Whether or not the suspense is effective is up to the viewer. The suspense is in the form of the monster carnage being witnessed through the binoculars of the wheelchair bound leading man as the monster terrorizes the women in the neighboring house. These scenes are actually pretty cool, and definitely bring to mind Rear Window. Matt McCoy does an adequate enough job in the lead, the women are only there for eye candy and Bigfoot food. Genre favorites Jeffrey Combs and Lance Henriksen are amusing enough, but wasted in tiny roles that has you wondering what the point was to having them in the film at all. They certainly deserve more screen time than they got. Regardless of what many folks may say, the monster is actually rather cool. In a day and age where every friggin monster anymore has to be some cgi piece of crap, it's a joy to see the ol "man in a monster suit". And considering the schlockiness of the film anyway, it suits it(no pun intended) perfectly. This movie isn't afraid of bloodshed either. The kills are quick, but gruesome. You won't see Abominable at the academy awards next year, but it's a welcome piece of B monster movie nonsense that's been missing from video shelves for awhile.

3 out of 5 stars Act your age, Baby, not your Shoe Size, & maybe we can do the Twirl.......2007-02-05

Ok, man, let's do some roleplay: you're Bigfoot. Sasquatch. The Abominable Snowman. I mean, you're a Big Guy, you're buff, you work out at the gym about 5 times a week, you can bench press 380 without breaking a sweat, you're hot, you're young, you're happening.

And you can't get a date.

What's a rough and ready, frustrated, desperate Housesquatch to do? You want to mosey on into town, you wants to get your jive on, get your drink on, you want to get jiggy with some of the local hardbodied babes, where's the harm, man?

I'll tell you where the Harm is: every time Bigfoot checks out the local muchachitas, they scream. They take one look at Bigfoot, they scream bloody murder. How's that for a Dude's self esteem? It's like being in high school all over again. He's thinking "oh my God, is it the hair? Does this animal-skin make my butt look fat?". The works. The Big Guy's a total wreck.

So he tries to get them to chill: maybe he says "hey babe, it's OK, what's your sign?" except, because he's a Bigfoot, it comes out all growly scary like Phil Anselmo just off one of his Superjoint Ritual roadtrip jags: `Gaaarrrrrgh grwoooowwl rowgrrrrr". And of course, the chick screams her head right off.

Now: there are rules for meeting the Sasquatch;

1)No sudden moves. Bigfoot (feet) don't like sudden moves. It makes them grouchy. Grouchy Bigfoot=Bad;

2)NO SCREAMING

So the Bigfoot tries to put the moves on the chick, to, you know, calm her down. He takes her arm, he's gonna console her. He's gonna show her some big piney mountain lovin'.

Only, well, he's a 1000 pound man eating brute, he doesn't know his own strength, and so her arm, um, comes off.

Bummer.

It doesn't have to happen like that: the girl could go all dovey and pet bigfoot's fur, and coo "oh Bigfoot, you have some----reaaaallly---BIG FEET" or "you're so abominably...HUGE". He'd melt. He'd be a little kitty cat. They'd head down to Cancun for the weekend together. But you know, this is life, and life, especially for Bigfeet, just ain't all that.

The lead actor (who looks ominously, eerily, like Steve Carrell) realllllly takes his role seriously. He means it. He's serious, even if nobody else is. He's the kind of guy who probably spent time in the director's trailer quibbling over, maybe even REWRITING, bits of his dialogue. The guy is a true believer, bully for him; meanwhile walk-ons Jeff Combs, Lance Henriksen, & Paul Gleason are, you know, flying casual.

Anyway, Lead Actor arrives, trying to get past the horrific grief of his wife taking a grand jete over the nearby cliff, and figures out the hot chicks next door in Cabin #2 have more on their minds than the next Federline CD: like, how to survive becoming kibble for the bummed-out Bigfoot. Hilarity ensues.

Lead Actor Guy does what he has to do to Save the Day. And ya know, he does, somewhat, though not from Bigfoot's perspective, who pays his club cover-charge and, yet again (*sigh*) goes home empty handed.

The flick misses a few obvious cues, particularly the mighty creepy potential left on the barrelhead of stalking the Bigfoot---and being stalked in turn, hunted down, tracked---in the Big Tall Spooky Woods. It would have been cool if somebody had used a Bazooka. There are no *real* scares here, and the Bigfoot, given all the Hell he had to deal with, should have unleashed Holy Jihad on Lead Actor Guy and taken a dump on the ruins.

But one thing's for sure: never judge a Bigfoot until you've walked a mile in his, um, Big Feet.

In 1975, five year old Todd Partain was terrified along with members of his family when something with glowing eyes tried to get into their isolated trailerhome on a dark Arkansas mountainside. That something left behind giant humanoid footprints. Now as a documentary filmmaker, he brings you the stories of others who have had...the Sasquatch Experience.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Sasquatch Documentary.......2007-06-27

Being a Sasquatch researcher and writer I am always looking into films and documentaries about the Bigfoot mystery. Often times documentaries are rehashed theories, tired unsuccessful methods of tracking and arguments. Imagine my surprise when I wathced Todd Partain's "Eyes in the Dark," Finally a breath of fresh air in the realm of Cine du Sasquatch! Todd gives an excellent collection of accounts from a variety of witnesses and gives us, the viewer, something we often aren't treated to in a Bigfoot piece...great re-enactments of the stories being told! Kudos, Todd, and anyone else on a job well done! Even though this is a small independently produced film this by far surpases many of the documentaries with an actual budget being shown on stations such as Discovery, History and others. And as a special treat we get a brief and humorous "behinds the scenes" look at Todd's buddy reluctantly transforming from man to beast. Shows what a true friend will endure for a pal! Todd, if you plan on future films let me know. You've made a fan!

4 out of 5 stars More bigfoot.......2007-05-24

Being a bigfoot junkie, I watch all kinds of programs and read all kinds of books on the subject of sasquatch. John Partain puts out this independently produced/directed documentary that stemmed from an experience of his family. It appears that the Partains attended one of the Texas Bigfoot Conventions to do these interviews. There are 5 or so tellings of encounters with the top profile one being Scott Herriott's, who with Darryl Owen (not positive that's his last name), exbidition ended up with purported video footage of a sasquatch in the bushes (see "Squatching" dvd put out by Herriott). The rapid cuts on this interview segment takes something away from it and you get distracted by the cuts. The other perk of this dvd is an interview with "The Bigfoot Hunter" Richard Noll who has put much personal time into this phenomenon but doesn't ever seem to crave any spotlight. He's been around for decades, involved in bigfoot research, and rarely is seen on camera. It's always good to get more encounter stories and it's a good addition to my collection.

Onto the dvd itself... What you get is approx. 50 minutes of documentary containing 5 or so interviews. Then there's the 'behind the scenes' segment which is a 5 minute piece with the Partain children talking and how Partain's friend Tiger was willing to "play" sasquatch. The suit they made isn't the best when seen in this segment but during the actual program it looks pretty good; there's definitely less effort put into other costumes for these kinds of projects and this costume is even better than some that make it into low budget B-movies. This is an independently made dvd of decent quality if somewhat short on running time. The menu is extremely basic and could have looked much better with a little effort in that department. While I'm not as gungho about this dvd as some of the other reviewers, it is certainly worth putting in your collection and watching repeatedly.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Documentary.......2007-05-04

This is one of the best bigfoot/sasquatch documentaries out there. Todd Partain did a wonderful job putting it together, and all of the witnesses interviewed seem credible and well-spoken. Todd's own experience is what led him to undertake this project, and the result is obviously a top-notch effort.

5 out of 5 stars Eyes in the Dark-The Sasquatch Experience.......2007-04-30

I received my copy of filmaker Todd Partains Sasquatch documentary and have watched it 3 times already. The Interviews are very compelling, informative and very credible in my opinion. He autographed my copy, and I hope he makes more as this documentary was very well done and was helpful to my research as I have been studying these creatures/mystery for close to 30 years. I had the opportunity to hear him on The Sasquatch Experience Radio show and he is one of the nicest, humblest researchers out there,&who really knows his subject matter well. I highly recommend this to all Bigfoot researchers.

5 out of 5 stars Great DVD on Bigfoot.......2007-04-30

Really enjoyed the sasquatch story's and the humor on the bonus footage was a riot.

I like two of the three movies in this set(Snowbeast,And Sasquatch) but you would be hard pressed to know why looking at the Poor transfers on the set. Really ,give these movies a chance, but find better copies.

5 out of 5 stars Sasquatch-The Legend of Bigfoot finally on DVD!.......2007-03-23

There are three movies on this disc: 1.Sasquatch-The Legend of Bigfoot 2. Snowbeast and 3. Snow Creature. The first movie, The Legend of Bigfoot, is a great movie from the 1970's during the time when bigfoot seemed to be the most popular. It's a great film about an expedition looking for bigfoot. It has decent actors and the story is really interesting and believable. Some other stories now known as "Bigfoot Classics" are retold here and they're done really well. The only thing that I would complain about would be the bigfoot costume, just a standard gorilla costume, but the film makers keep the bigfeet in the shadows so not to show to much, which works really well. Plus, what do you expect from a bigfoot film from the seventies? Although, this is one of the better ones. My six year old was a little frightened during the flashback scenes and when bigfoot comes into the camp, so you might want to wait for the little ones to go to bed. My teenagers on the other hand thought it was a little cheesy, but they're teens so what do they know. As far as the other two, Snowbeast is another 70's schlockfest about bigfoot attacking skiers at a resort. Its really not that bad. It was made for television so there isn't alot of blood or violence, so that's good for the kiddies. This one also keeps the creature hidden for most of the movie(small budget). This is good cheese. As far as snowcreature goes, to be honest I couldn't even finish watching it because it was so boring. Nothing happens for like a half an hour and when it does pick up the viewer is so bored that they don't even care. I shut it off after about 35 minutes. The only thing this movie has going for it is the fact that it's one of the first bigfoot/yeti films to come out. But that isn't enough to save it. So, basically, it's a waste of time. As far as the picture quality is concerned, there's a little grain on the first two, which are both in color, but it wasn't a bad picture on my disc. The snowcreature is in black and white and really wasn't spectacular. So I give Legend of Bigfoot 3 stars and Snowbeast 2 stars. Snow Creature 0 stars. Actually, I would give the first two movies higher ratings if I could, especially Legend of Bigfoot, classic!

4 out of 5 stars Good movie collection.......2006-11-04

Its a good DVD for the money. The lengendary Sasquatch: the legend of bigfoot is worth the price. The other two movies are ok to watch. You can tell these are old movies. But still worth watching.

4 out of 5 stars Two out of Three aint bad........2006-01-23

This DVD contains 3 Films:
1- Sasquatch- The Legend of Bigfoot
2-Snowbeast
3The Snow Creature.
First off, Saquatch finally being released on DVD is reason for rejoicing. I mean schools and government facilities should declare a day off in observence of this occasion.
Sasquacth-The Legend of Bigfoot is by far the best Bigfoot film ever made. It is the Citizen Kane of Cinema Du Sasquatch.
It is a well made film that combines a Western Cowboy atmosphere along with suspense, comedy and its presented in a way similar to those old Disney nature flicks from the 1950's.
One surprising element of this film is the great music soundtrack. It's like a country folk sound and has actually some catchy tunes. When they play the music and show the dynamic footage of the mountains and forest, at times I was waiting for John Denver to walk out.
Another entry in this disc is "Snowbeast". This is a way cool monster movie that was originally made for television back in 1977. It's really sad that these days they dont make films like this for television. Today it's just man-hater and sick kids movies that they pour into the airwaves. This film has alot of imagination and a great spirit to it. It looks great and moves fast. The characters are interesting and Bigfoot has never looked better. I really like this movie.
The third entry in "The Snow Creature" which is a boring time waster. Thats all that can be really said about that.
I recommend this DVD for the other two films it contains.
Enjoy!

3 out of 5 stars Recommended for fans of cheese!!!.......2005-10-25

This two-DVD set features one of the rarest Bigfoot movies ever produced-"Sasquatch: The Legend of Bigfoot", a cult-classic in its own right within the Bigfoot community, and two other films that have seen their share of DVD action in recent years, "Snowbeast" and "Snow Creature." First, the good. All three films have been fully restored ("Sasquatch" is much more noticably clearer and crisper than it has ever been). "Snowbeast" and "Snow Creature" are also very well-preserved. Unfortunately, "Sasquatch" is the best of the three movies. "Snowbeast" (a TV-movie in its original format) is a bit amateurish, and "Snow Creature" is a bit too poorly acted, and the creature looks more like a guy in a suit (of course, in all the movies, it IS a guy in a suit, but in this one, it's even more painfully obvious). Still, the three films are enjoyable in their own way; all three are cheesy but it's good cheese at times. "Sasquatch" has its share of poor acting, to be sure, but it to me is the most enjoyable of the 3 films. I feel a sense of excitement when they find the creatures near the end of the movie, and the creatures... well, I won't spoil the ending. "Snowbeast" is nothing more than a "Jaws" rip-off with a Sasquatch as the main protaganist instead of a 30-foot Great White shark. "Snow Creature", credited as the first Yeti/Sasquatch movie ever, is really not all that compelling or exciting, and all it has going for it is it's the first Yeti/Sasquatch movie ever made. Still, I will give the entire DVD set 3 stars, mainly for the production and crisp restoration done to the three films. I recommend it only for "Sasquatch". Skip the other two movies unless you're really desperate.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Good but dated.......2007-05-29

In the 70s, if you were doing a show on what would be considered 'paranormal' you got one of two people to narrate, Leonard Nimoy or Peter Graves. This one features Peter Graves and was put out in 1975 by David Wopler productions (who actually put out a couple bigfoot documentaries). As it goes, this is one of the earliest and serious takes on bigfoot. For the time, it was well done and intriguing to the viewers during one of the bigfoot heydays. This documentary is run like a court case with 'exhibits' being put forth in the likes of eye witness testimony, photgraphs, tracks, sound analysis, purported fecal and hair samples and of course the Patterson film. The program runs approx. 90 minutes and includes a 15 minute Loch Ness Monster segment, the rest is all bigfoot. The costumes for the creatures are done by Berman Studios and range greatly in their appearance from pretty good to awful. The encounters tend to be of the scarier versions, thus depicting the creatures as more monster than animal.

As for the dvd - this program doesn't hold up well with time. Besides being dated, there was little effort put into to transfer it to dvd format. There's no cleanup of the images in the program and the sound is actually off in some segments (think badly dubbed kung fu movies). As a whole, the documentary holds up with it's sightings and basics of evidence and while being distinctly 70s, could still run now and be accurate if simple but that's due to other focuses in the field that have arisen since 1975. Overall, one of the best old programs to take the bigfoot phenomenon serious and Peter Graves takes his hosting in equally seriously.

4 out of 5 stars Fairly interesting for an older documentary.......2007-04-04

Enjoyable film, other than it was made nearly 30 years ago. There is alot strong evidence in regards to the existence of Bigfoot on this film, if in fact, some of the stories told are actually true...?

4 out of 5 stars one of the best bigfoot documentaries out there........2006-12-27

This is a pretty good place to start if you're interested in bigfoot. It's thorough and keeps the audience interested, I give four stars because I felt they (the film makers) should have reenacted more eyewitness accounts, some of the more hairraising ones I mean. There is a film out there somewhere that was done in the late70's or early 80's that had some scary encounters in it, does anybody remember this film. Anyway this is a solid effort to get the veiwer to think twice about bigfoot. Good film, recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Mysterious Seventies.......2006-11-27

This is the best documentary I have seen on Bigfoot. I mean, I have seen countless movies about Bigfoot and this one takes the cake. There is something about documentaries that were made during the 1970's that just make the subject matter so darn interesting.
Peter Graves IS the perfect choice for hosting and narrating this "mysterious monster". There are some pretty frightening re-enactments of bigfoot sightings as well as a descriptive word that I had never heard used in any context. Peter Graves asks a scientist to "(watch the film to find out)* what is in his briefcase.
This is a must see. Get it if you can. D'OH! I almost forgot, they talk about Loch Ness too!!!

2 out of 5 stars WHISH I RENTED FIRST.......2007-06-13

SHAKE! SHAKE! SHAKE! What is wrong with the camers operator ? Lance Henriksen is my favorite si-fi actor but this is in my opion the worst movie I have seen him in. Then there was the fancy or pathetic cutting, cramming and jumping what occured at the begining of the film, why bother ? The film seemed to be over exposed. There was a hint of quality in this film thanks to Lance. The story line was, well, OK. I find some of the home made sasquatch doco's more interesting and some times funny, simple but funny.

And poor old sasy cops it in the end, what a sad ending. They unloaded there guns into the creature and " THEN " they decide to lower and place their guns on the ground and hold hands, I don't drink, smoke or take druges but I could use something to help me work out the ending. (SIMILE)

4 out of 5 stars Not at all bad for a bigfoot movie.......2007-04-11

I've seen some real stinker bigfoot movies, but I have to say this one is not bad (considering the genre). The acting is decent -- I'd go so far as to call Lance Henriksen "good." The film looks good, except for one scene where a microphone is clearly visible. There are a couple of things about the movie that make it interesting for bigfoot buffs. First of all, many of the images of the sasquatch early on are fleeting and show the beast stomping through the woods swinging its arms -- clearly invoking the famous Patterson-Gimlin footage of 1967. In another scene, the folks being stalked by the sasquatch hole up in a rustic house, which angry Mr. Bigfoot bombards with rocks. This calls to mind the famous Fred Beck "Ape Canyon" incident of the early 1920s in southwest Washington.

The plot of the film concerns an attractive young woman who, due to an unfortunate car accident, is abducted by a gang of bank robbers and forced to flee with them into the Arizona wilderness. The group is pursued by several law enforcement officers; all must join forces when they learn they are the prey of the sasquatch. Naturally people get picked off one by one, but the gore is not excessive. The portrayal of the sasquatch at the end even manages to be sympathetic.

OK, it's not "Citizen Kane." But when it comes to bigfoot movies, you could do worse. Believe me.

4 out of 5 stars Sasquatch comes of age.......2007-01-09

A fairly decent Sci Fi film about Bigfoot. Or more appropriately, about the people dealing with Bigfoot. This is not a gorefest but rather a throw back to the old idea of running from the unknown and focusing on the characters a bit more.

The "King" Lance Henriksen is back in another sasquatch role and judging it by that standard, it is the best lance Henriksen Sasquatch film so far! Nice to see him being human rather than a robot. The guy is a good actor. So are Craig Wasson, Michael Worth and a few others in the cast. A nice looking film directed by Steven R. Monroe (Left In Darkness). I have seen it ripped on a lot online, but I have to say, much of the critisism was that Cerina Vincent wasn't naked or that Bigfoot wasn't killing enough people. Shows the criteria that is important to some. But, that is actually what I liked about it (not that nudity would have killed it....). I went in expecting something cliche and it surprised me there. Better written and acted than most in this genre.

It seems there is a featurette on the DVD but unfortunately, no commentary has been listed which would have made it an instant buy. Either way, a decent low budget flick on the Squatch.

Description

This Award-winning humorous film poses fundamental questions about the origins of man, while reveling in the sub-culture which surrounds the Bigfoot mystery. This is the story of the hunt for Bigfoot and the four old-men who have been searching for the elusive, mythical creature for 40 years.

5 out of 5 stars What a great movie!!.......2007-06-18

This movie is more about the lives of the four men who are first noted for hunting bigfoot and the hostilities that they harbor for one another over a forty year period. It is one of my favorites that I never get enough of. Totally hilarious!! A must see for bigfoot enthusiasts.

5 out of 5 stars If You Can't Laugh at Yourself..........2007-04-25

As other reviewers have noted, this humorous and entertaining documentary is less about the big guy and more about some of the personalities, most of which are quite familiar to those of us who have had an interest in this for very long, a little history of the search for evidence and the culture surrounding the mystery.

There are interesting interviews with John Green, Dr. Krantz, Peter Byrne and Rene Dahinden among others as well as with Rick Noll in a featurette. What you won't find here is revealing new evidence supporting or refuting the existence of bigfoot although the veracity of the Patterson footage is again re-hashed by seemingly cursory examination of the film by effects artists and a brief summary of a scientific evaluation of the film.

My wife, who forces a nervous smile, avoids eye contact and slowly backs out of the room when she discovers her normally sane, intelligent, logical and pragmatic husband poring over his bigfoot ephemera like a fevered brain case, actually sat down to watch this and got a big hoot out of it. So did I.

If you're like me and enthusiastically follow the big guy's trail, you'll want to add this interesting, amusing and whimsical piece to your collection. If, however, you can't laugh at yourself...

4 out of 5 stars Interesting DVD.......2007-03-13

This DVD was enjoyable, because I was interested in personally viewing some of these long term bigfoot researchers, that I've only recently heard and read about. So for me it was entertaining, to hear what they each had to say in regards to their many years spent investigating so much of the reported bigfoot information, sightings, etc. I will have to watch it again, soon... The hunt for bigfoot continues...

1 out of 5 stars A waste of money.......2006-12-12

High priced piece of garbage. A movie about societal outcasts who think Bigfoot is a spirit or there is a UFO connection. When movies like this are produced the scientific community will continue to distance itself from an objective study of whether North American might have a primate. Others that watched the DVD share my sentiments and were also disappointed.

4 out of 5 stars Bigfoot & the Four Horsemen.......2006-07-31

As stated by others, this documentary is about two things - bigfoot and the four horsemen of sasquatchary (John Green, Rene Dahinden, Grover Krantz, & Peter Byrne). This is a well done piece, giving time to each of the four men. They talk about bigfoot and Dahinden tries to give an explanation of why the four of them didn't get along. Their in-fighting is amusing and their personalities come out here. Krantz the scientist, John Green the journalist, Dahinden the seemingly bitter every man, and Byrne the playboy hunter. Two of them are dead now (Krantz and Dahinden) and the other two (Green & Byrne) are getting on in years. Most amusing is how all four of them dismiss John Lesparitis as a dimwit regarding bigfoot.

Among other personalities in the show are Ray Crowe, Larry Lund, John Lesparitis, State Trooper Hastings, John Bindernagel (seen but never heard), Robert Pyle, newcomer Henry Franzoni, and Byrne disciple 15 year old Matt "and stuff" Dunlap among others. We also get FX designer Toby Lindala's input on the Patterson film creature. It's a good solid show for the subject matter.

Special Features for the dvd include a 10 minute segment on bigfoot background guy Richard Noll (now coming to the forefront as the Four Horsemen are departing us). Also are three brief opinion segments including FX designer Stan Winston and an old movie actor that impersonated gorillas.

Overall, very good show but more about the Big Four than Bigfoot.

I watched this with my daughter and husband and we were at the edge of our seat! The end of the DVD had us *sighing* and saying, "That's it?... where's the second one!" Autumn has a confident and fresh way of bringing the "legend" into your home showing you that "he" is out there! Great job, Autumn! Can't wait for #2!

5 out of 5 stars Still Searching For A Living Legend!.......2007-04-27

The "Women In Sasquatch Research" bonus feature was extremely interesting to me.. There were a lot of facts presented here that I found intriguing. Also the eye-witness encounters are captivating, too.... Of course I was hoping to see actual filmed footage of a Sasquatch! Not just some questionable occurrences during their initial search, darn it! Yet,I still gained a lot of insight through this DVD, as a greenhorn in Bigfoot study and exploration by purchasing this video.
Who knows what we might see in volume 2, and I hope it won't be too long in the making of it... Since I am a member of Autumn's website Oregon Bigfoot, I'm glad I purchased this DVD, for continued research for the (next) "Search For a Living Legend."

1 out of 5 stars Pretty Disappointed.......2007-04-14

So you are in the woods, looking for Sasquatch, filming as you go along, and the first night you hear mysterious sounds below you in a gulch. Do you.
A. Not have any of the wonderful gadgets out of the case ready to use?
B. Stare into the darkness while listening to the knocking of your Videographers knees?
C. Say you have a "vibe" and then listen to the sound again?
D All of the above?

Notice none of the options was to be prepared and do some type of scientific study during this time.
The folks are nice enough, but just when I thought this might get good, they ended it.

All in all I can't for the life of me see what ANYONE would see in this item that would warrent a positive review.
Buyers beware.

4 out of 5 stars The new Horsemen of Sasquatch.......2007-01-30

With the departures of the original Four Horsemen of Sasquatch, as I call them (Krantz - deceased, Dahinden - deceased, Byrne - retired, Green - active but getting on in years); we begin to see the emergence of the new Horsemen taking up the charge. Foremost is Krantz heir apparent, Jeff Meldrum. The freshest breath of air for the new horsemen is none other than Autumn Williams. She has taken on this task after long-term encounters. But onto the DVD:

The DVD is a documentary on research performed by Autumn Williams, one of the few women in the field. While not 'professionally' done, this documentary was largely brought into being by Autumn herself doing the writing, editing, music, and much more and it looks quite well done. I enjoyed the whole main feature of the program but may have liked her "Women in Sasquatch Research" more. The main feature showed a re-enactment of the Bauman story, had 4-6 testimony stories, and a large segment on the beginning of a month long expedition Autumn and her minimal crew engaged in. This segment only covers the first 10 days or so with very little happening. It ends with them deciding to break camp and go to another location which had activity the day before they decide to leave (this actually seems to be the reason they are leaving).

I would like to see an entire segment and re-enactments of her own long-term encounters, as she defines it. It would be quite interesting so I will have to check out the related book "Valley of the Skookum".

Overall, a little dry, but the personalities make up for it, Autumn seems quite dedicated to her research. Her whole crew is likeable and I look forward to Part 2 of the series. The down side of the dvd is it seemed kind of put out just to make some money for further expeditions but since the team doesn't appear to have any big financial or academic backing, I can accept that.

3 out of 5 stars Bigfoot IS out there (just not on this DVD)............2007-01-13

I enjoyed my viewing of this DVD. It isn't the best one I've seen, but it definitely isn't the worst. Probably the best part of the whole DVD is Amber Williams' presentation "Women in Sasquatch Research". My main complaint pertaining to the DVD is the lengthy expedition footage which could have been edited to half its running time (especially since they didn't find anything of any significance whatsoever). That would have allowed additional time for more eyewitness stories and re-enactments of sightings, which were much more interesting. I also must offer my complaint concerning the re-enactment of the Bauman incident that was recorded by Theodore Roosevelt. Historically, this event took place sometime around 1850 when Bauman and his ill-fated trapping partner were relatively young men who would have most likely been packing muzzleloading rifles. Instead of using the two old codgers with modern firearms that the DVD did I don't doubt a pair of buskinners from one of the rendezvous that take place in abundance around the country could have been found who would have been thrilled to portray them. Oh, well, the wisdom of hindsight.....
Despite my complaints, like I said to begin with, I still enjoyed the DVD and my Bigfoot collection is better for its addition. In quality this DVD reminds me a lot of "Rocky Mountain Bigfoot". I don't regret the money I spent. I just wish there'd been a few changes in content.

Description

Deep in the forests of the Pacific Northwest, a mysterious, hairy, apelike beast is rumored to dwell. It stands nearly eight feet tall, walks like a man, and weighs over six hundred pounds. The American Indians feared and respected it. They called it Sasquatch. Frank VanderSchmidt and Ron Warren both know this beast. They've been tracking it for years. Ron wants to photograph it to prove to science that it exists so that it can be protected and studied. Frank wants to kill it. To him, Sasquatch is simply the ultimate trophy. Both men are driven by a maniacal determination that borders on obsession. And in the hunt for the elusive Sasquatch, they risk losing everything - even their minds. This film follows Frank and Ron through the forests of Oregon and Washington during the summer of 2006. It's an adventure you'll never forget.

3 out of 5 stars mmmmm NOT BAD.......2007-06-05

It is good to see that some Americans still have a sence of humour when it comes to Sasquatch.

5 out of 5 stars Oh yeah! That was great!.......2007-05-22

There will be two types of people for 'Scream of the Sasquatch': those who hate it for bad acting and those who love it for exactly what it is. This is NOT a documentary on bigfoot hunting, it is a parody of documentaries on bigfoot hunting. We have two characters, Frank VanderSchmidt and Ron Warren. Ron is the photo-proof kind of guy; Frank is his cousin (Larry)'s wife's brother and is of the kill-em-for-proof kind of guy. There are no opening credits and it's shot in such a way that makes you sort of think it is a viable documantary but there's never any mention of 'the big names' in the field of bigfoot research so you're not sure. What we get is a small cast that represents an amalgamation of those Dahinden, Krantz, Green, Byrne, Bindernagel, Fish, and the such. There's even the "Robby Peterson" film of 1972 parodying the famed Roger Patterson film.

This is an independent film in which, presumedly, the director used his friends to fill out the cast. The acting seems bad because you have real people portraying "real people." This is along the lines of _The Blair Witch Project_ for bigfoot people. I was sitting there watching it, disbelieving there are people like this in the bigfoot field but truth be told, that's what some of them actually are like. The character of Ron is very Paul Freeman-like while Frank is more of the obsessive Rene Dahinden type. The college professor/author is even a knock on the late Grover Krantz. I agonized over how bad the beginning of this was (thinking it was some guy's personal documentary) but when I just sat back and watched it, my view turned and the ending was so great that I ended up loving this film.

Overall, it's a fantastic Blair Witch-esque parody on sasquatch research and the 'investigators'. The best part is when you totally realize that it isn't really a documentary (took me about 15-20 minutes cuz I ordered it thinking it was one). I'm so glad I watched the whole thing because the acting is so bad that it helps the cohesion of the film and makes it work. Scream of the Sasquatch is perfect for "believers" and "skeptics" because it is so funny in that way. Believers will laugh at the parody, skeptics will say that's exactly how believers are. Certainly worth the money I paid for it and I'll watch it many times. Great job Guy Gilray

2 out of 5 stars Scream of the Sasquatch.......2007-03-08

Wasn't quite what I was expecting, I mean it was written well, I like that they had the guys out there in the the woods, but they never found any actual real evidence, they were mostly just trying to outdo each other for the noteriety, and one ended up getting himself killed for it. I figure of your are serious about trying to hunt this creature then you should know all safety measures available.

1 out of 5 stars POOR!!!.......2007-02-24

Poor acting and unbelievable scenarios riddle this lame excuse for a bigfoot documentary. Save your money!!!

5 out of 5 stars Obsession Kills.......2006-11-26

We have all seen movies and documentaries about Bigfoot, from a blood thirsty monster to a human-like creature. However, this movie does not focus so much on Bigfoot himself, but on the people who sacrifice their lives in pursuit of this mysterious being. I enjoyed the movie because it is humorous, well-written, and unpretentious. To me, the movie is a story of a man's quest to prove Bigfoot's existence, how it isolated him from his family and friends, and eventually destroyed everything he had. You will be talking about this movie long after you have seen it.

4 out of 5 stars NOT BAD AT ALL.......2007-06-13

Very good movie. We all have our likes and dislikes, and I like this one. The computor generated sasquatches for what I suspect is a low budget film really makes the film. One thing that has me a little confused with this film and other's of this type is when the the actors are in almost clear open ground with only a few trees and these big sasquatches can remain hidden only to appear from no where and the people didn't see the sasquatch coming and therefore they get their heads removed, maybe the director is adding a supernatural element to the move, then it makes sence. Having a big boobed blond in a movie is always a must...in every movie! ( SMILE )

For future sasquatch movies I would like the film makers to get out more and research the subject in greater detail, talk to people who have experienced the sasquatch and also search the web, there's plenty of information out there and use it, regardless of how strange the information may seem, this subject is after all very strange. Anyone with a few million to gamble with ?( SMILE )

2 out of 5 stars No Wonder Sasquatches Are So Reclusive.......2007-04-22

You know, low budget doesn't have to mean lousy. Spending a Brinks truck-load of money never hurts when it comes to production values, but a little sense and decent writing would go a long way.

A group of scientists, forest rangers, and a blonde bombshell hanger-on march into the north woods to investigate the source of some big bones a museum uncovered. It finds a Bigfoot burial ground, disturbs it (not knowing what it was), and thus kindles the wrath of the big, BIG apes. But for pete's sake, the burial ground area is a plot about the size of my modest living room in between a few trees, with the "mounds" for these huge beasts being about 18 inches high. Couldn't the movie makers have at least spent a couple of hours piling some dirt up?

The dialogue is very trite, but that's not necessarily a wholehearted criticism. Most of us talk that way in everyday life. But would you natter on about who's at fault and the need for self-credit while you sling your firearm over your shoulder in the middle of the night with shredded bodies piling up around you? Or completely ignore the beastie who literally just seconds before turned the blonde babe into blonde hash so you can hug each other and express regrets?

The guns sound like wet ladyfinger firecrackers, the old cabin that what's left of the group takes shelter in looks about as sturdy as a cardboard box (and yet it's kept the sasquatches at bay for 90 years), and on and on.

Incidentally, the brunette scientist is both prettier than the blonde and has better legs. It's the latter's huge bust that not only gets everyone to talking, but must also have made the sasquatches wonder what was wrong with their own women. And of course, being a recently made movie means lots of potty-mouth talking which leads to its R rating. The language is basically the only big difference between this movie and the stinko horror films of decades ago.

2 out of 5 stars Why can't I find a good Bigfoot movie.......2007-04-08

The idea sounded good, a group of people in the woods being stalked by a bigfoot, but the acting sucked and the night time scenes are impossible to follow. You can't tell who is who. I'd skip it.

2 out of 5 stars Bigger budget and less monster would have made a better Sasqutch film.......2006-12-18

Sasquatch Hunters

A group of researchers and forest rangers hike into the dense Pacific Northwest wilderness in search of bones of an unknown primate thought to inhabit the area in prehistoric times. They discover a burial ground and bones. Huge bones. They also discover that the prehistoric primates still exist, and they are steaming mad.

Complete with a paleontology professor who shares a resemblance to well known cryptozoologist Loren Coleman, and a token hottie along for the ride to document their findings, Sasquatch Hunters is overall not a bad movie, but the CG monster effects leave a lot to be desired. Very poor visual effects.

A better creature effect may have been produced with good old foam latex and traditional makeup effects techniques, even simple puppetry with a monster head may have worked better in some scenes. The monster didn't always fit in properly with the surroundings. In fact, the film might have been more effective if less monster was shown.

The characters were decent, and the acting was okay for the most part, but there were a few stiff moments and downright dopey exchanges between characters. Nice cinematography though; nice locations and scenery, including the blond.

There were some pretty decent action scequences too, except for the unnecessary roll-shoot-and-run stunt performed ineffectively by one of the characters as he ran from one of the creatures. It was moronic because the sole purpose for that kind of move is to avoid being hit by bullets, and Bigfoot don't carry guns!

The scoring worked well in some spots, particularly the suspenseful, creepy scenes, but I think it was mostly overdone and very campy at times. Not the best score. It actually detracted from the film.

Those who hold the Sasquatch phenomenon close at heart feel the creature was wrongly depicted as evil, and that this film gives real Bigfoot (if they exist) a bad reputation. They feel that cinemagoers and DVD renters will be misled into believing Bigfoot are bad creatures, when in fact most people don't even believe in them in the first place. Hey, it's a monster movie, and there is really no need to worry about about Bigfoot stereotyping.

In all not a bad idea, too bad they didn't have a bigger budget. At times Sasquatch Hunters was a bit boring, but I must say that there were moments in which I found myself being somewhat drawn in to the story, and some of the back stories. It was an okay movie but for the reasons cited above I wouldn't watch it again.

We need someone with a bigger budget to tackle the Sasquatch idea.

2 out of 5 stars I'd buy it for a $1, but no more than that........2006-11-04

Well, having seen most of the movies inspired by Bigfoot, I have to say this one in very sub-par. It starts out with poachers commenting on the size of a dung pile while drinking some cheap beer then getting trashed by big ugly. One guy is torn to shreds, one guy is chased down WHILE CARRYING A LOADED GUN THAT HE NEVER FIRES, and the last escapes. Later he sees the 2nd party of nosey bodies but is tackled by the creature and slammed into a tree before he calls for help. The creature roars in victory then spies the others WHO WERE ABOUT 40-50 FEET AWAY AND DID NOT HEAR ANY OF THIS OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FOREST WHERE IT IS FAIRLY QUIET AND YOU COULD HEAR PETER GRIFFIN FART 2 MILES AWAY. Needless to say, most of the movie is full stupid moves, like when the sister of a missing Ranger goes off on her own to find out what that noise was she heard in the dark AFTER THEY HAD BEEN ATTACKED BY THE CREATURE, what an idiot, bad scenes, like when the idiot girl screams and the hero dude says "Stay here." but they all dispurse into 3 little groups after they hear the creature roar, and the dude that is the fly in the ointment constantly arguing with the hero WHEN HE IS SUPPOSED TO BE WATCHING FOR THE CREATURE THROUGH A WINDOW BUT TURNS HIS BACK ON THE OPEN WINDOW TIME AFTER TIME AND FINALLY IS SNATCHED BY ONE AND DRAGGED OUTSIDE TO MEET HIS DOOM. The night seen was played out about 15 minutes too long and could have saved me a little grief if it had just got to the point. The scariest part in the movie was expected with the babe of the movie using her digital cam to light her way by taking pictures to see where she was only to photogragh one of the creatures before her most unwanted doom. The best looking chick in the whole movie and she is ripped to shreds, what a waste. Anyway, when they finally make it to the jeep the next day, thats when it got corny. The CGI creatures were horrible, the others in suits looked more like chimps than bigfoots, bigfeets.....other creatures. Gimme a break. I don't know the plural for bigfoot. All in all, I would not buy this movie, but I would watch it if I had a choice between it or watching "The 700 Club" but I would have to think real hard as to which was the most torture. I gave 2 stars because I have yet to see another movie worse than Battlefield Earth which is the only movie I have given 1 star.

Product Description

Based on a True Story! - A 1970s documentary-style drama questions the existence of a hairy 7ft tall Sasquatch-type monster that lives in a swap outside of Fouke, Arkansas. According to the locals the monster walks on two feet, has a characteristic smelly odor and kills chicken, cattle, dogs and livestock but so far it hasn't killed any people. The monster supposedly harassed two families in the late 1960s, but since then few have seen the monster yet it can be heard in the swap at night. Actual interviews with area residents tell the tale. Could this be real of a conspiracy of a backwoods community looking for attention?
