This zany, eye-popping, knee-slapping landmark in combining animation with live-action ingeniously makes that uneasy combination itself (and the history of Hollywood) its subject. Who Framed Roger Rabbit is based on classic L.A. private-eye movies (and, specifically, Chinatown), with detective Eddie Valiant (Bob Hoskins) investigating a case involving adultery, blackmail, murder, and a fiendish plot to replace Los Angeles's once-famous Red Car public transportation system with the automobiles and freeways that would later make it the nation's smog capital. Of course, his sleuthing takes him back to the place he dreads: Toontown, the ghetto for cartoons that abuts Hollywood and that was the site of a tragic incident in Eddie's past. In addition to intermingling cartoon characters with live actors and locations, Roger Rabbit also brings together the greatest array of cartoon stars in the history of motion pictures, from a variety of studios (Disney, Warner Bros., MGM, Fleischer, Universal, and elsewhere): Betty Boop, Bugs Bunny, Mickey Mouse, Woody Woodpecker, Droopy Dog, and more! And, of course, there's Maroon Cartoon's greatest star, Roger Rabbit (voice by Charles Fleischer), who suspects his ultracurvaceous wife, Jessica Rabbit (voice by Kathleen Turner: "I'm not bad; I'm just drawn that way"), of infidelity. Directed by Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future, Forrest Gump, Contact), not since the early Looney Tunes' "You Oughtta Be in Pictures" has there been anything like Roger Rabbit. --Jim Emerson
Description
It's 1947 Hollywood, and Eddie Valiant (Bob Hoskins), a down-on-his-luck detective, is hired to find proof that Marvin Acme, gag factory mogul and owner of Toontown, is playing hanky-panky with femme fatale Jessica Rabbit, wife of Maroon Cartoon superstar Roger Rabbit. When Acme is found murdered, all fingers point to Roger, and the sinister, power-hungry Judge Doom (Christopher Lloyd) is on a mission to bring Roger to justice. Roger begs the Toon-hating Valiant to find the real evildoer and the plot thickens as Eddie uncovers scandal after scandal and realizes the very existence of Toontown is at stake! WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT is deliciously outrageous fun the whole family will enjoy.
Customer Reviews:
Cool Carrots!.......2007-06-16
It's Bogey meets Bugs Bunny when 'toon-loathing detective Eddie Valiant (Bob Hoskins) is the lone hope of the irascible and irritating Roger Rabbit (voiced by Charles Fleischer) to prove his innocence when he is accused of murder. Set in the 1940s in a shadowy world reminiscent of the noir classics, Who Framed Roger Rabbit combines Disney and Warner Brothers cartoon creations in the same scenes. Randy, red-haired Jessica Rabbit (voiced by Amy Irving and Kathleen Turner) is one of the more enduring new noir characters and as it should be, it's the diabolical dame who's believed to be the root of all evil. The DVD is loaded with featurettes, and is well worth the price. (Fans of the movie should definitely read the book, as well. Warning: it's much more adult than the film!)
Toon-riffic!.......2007-05-24
This is a DVD you should own if you enjoyed this movie that came out nearly 20 years ago! It offers you the inside story on the behind the scenes production and the animation. It was too bad they didn't make a sequel for Roger Rabbit! Bob Hoskins was wonderful in this film. Still, its good entertainment for everyone!
WOW DANG ONE OF THE BEST MOVE FOR SHORE.......2007-05-08
NOW I COULD EASYLY SAY THIS WILL GO DOWN AS ONE OF THE GRATEST MOVE EVER MADE IN THE WORLD THAT IS SO FOR SHORE & THAT IS PUTTING IT LIGHTLY
Can I Rate This One Higher?.......2007-04-11
Everyone knows the story. Rabbit meets girl. Rabbit loses girl. Rabbit save Toontown. Rabbit gets girl in the end. It's as old as the movies.
Wait, 'Rabbit gets girl'?! Yes, it's true, and so well done to be astonishing. Bob Hoskins is fabulous in his role, selling everything he does. And Charles Fleischer as Roger Rabbit sets a modern standard for zany. It's just a shame that Disney went cheap on us so we can't have more Roger Rabbit tales (NYUK, NYUK, pun intended). Get the dip for the fuddy-duddies that let this classic character slip through their hands. More Roger Rabbit!
I love this movie.......2007-03-08
I was so happy when they put this movie on DVD. When I was growing up this was my favorite movie. The cover is so creative and it has great special features. It brings me back to my childhood!

Description
Rob Lowe portrays a cop with a tainted past - and perhaps without a future if he falls under the cat-and-mouse sway of a criminal mastermind (Sam Neill).
Customer Reviews:
too many twists and turns...........2007-07-01
If you can follow the inconsistent plot and the off acting, this is a somewhat passable TV Film, But just watch it as few times as possible.
A RATHER DULL PICTURE.......2005-03-19
Originally filmed for the TNT Network, FRAMED is a mishmash of poor plot development and lackluster performances. Rob Lowe plays a "perfect cop", but one with a past that deals with bribery and demotion. He is given a second chance when he is appointed to interrogate a criminal mastermind who is now in the witness protection program. Under the pedestrian direction of Daniel Petrie Jr. (Beverly Hills Cop, Big Easy), the cast muddles along through a confusing plot scenario, where the intention seems to be to have us asking, "Who's cheating who?". Unfortunately, Rob Lowe as the cop delivers a one-dimensional portrait and Sam Neill seems to be trying to be a James Mason clone in his intentionally smooth con man. Add Alicia Coppola as Lowe's neglected wife who decides to have an affair with a US Marshal assigned to protect her, and Neill's two "wives" who are also lesbians and engage in some offside sex with Lowe, and you have the ingredients in this rather boring entry. There's not a lot of action and it's handled so sloppily, it can't make up for the movie's dull pace.
Excellent Film with plenty of twists........2003-12-28
I saw this film on Foxtel and was entertained from start to finish.
Rob Lowe and Sam Neil make an excellent combination. Both characters are likeable and you never know who is telling the truth. Great fun and worth watching.

Customer Reviews:
Try to get hold of the uncut version.......2004-06-17
Why the studio would decide to release this version is beyond my understanding. I bought this version by mistake several months ago while looking for the full version. I purchased one full-length version from ebay not long ago at a very good price and am very happy to own it (the UK 3,5 hours VHS PAL full version is deleted and you can only hope to buy it secondhand). It is as one reviewer said 'a mind boggling' thriller and lots of cuts were made that are important to the plot.
Three stars for this version, because it has been cut to shreds. The uncut version deserves its full five stars. 3,5 hours of film as opposed to the 2 hours cut version, you can imagine missing a lot of suspense!
Fascinating and truly suspenseful.......2004-04-01
I didn't see the original, so I wasn't disappointed by not seeing the full-length version. (But this version is so good that I can see how it must be disappointing to those who got to see a couple more hours of it.) This is an excellent production, with fine acting by everyone. It's fascinating to see how Eddie Myers seduces so many of the people around him. I really had no idea how it was going to end, and had a clenched stomach for the last 10 minutes. I've seen very few movies that did that to me. I'd say it's some of Timothy Dalton's best work.
Great mini-series - but don't buy this version!!.......2003-04-14
Framed is one of Timothy Dalton's best pieces of work. But this version has been cut to shreds. The original is four hours long. With this DVD, half the film is missing and it was not padding they cut. If you can find the full version, then great, buy it. Just don't purchase the two hour version.
Where is the rest?!.......2002-10-24
I am a fan of Timothy Dalton and was elated to see this movie being released for I have both a copy off of A&E tv and
a copy of the orginial via a good friend but when I played this I was simply heartbroken!! DVD's can hold so much more so why did they release such a version? The plot is very hard to follow and the movie doesn't flow like it did in the full version! If you can somehow obtain this version from British TV or the A&E copy by all means go for that and see what you are missing!
Cutting Room Floor.......2001-01-31
yes, this version has been cut, cut a lot! I don't know how I would react to this version if I weren't so familiar with the original. I miss the missing footage. It added texture to a work that is now little more than plot. Why do this on DVD? and to a character driven film? The original is more than twice as long as this version.I long for the original.

It brings me back to my childhood!

too many twists and turns...........2007-07-01
