Description
Neil Stryker, a loner with a bad attitude is hitchhiking along a sparsely populated road where he is taken in by a mild-mannered Good Samaritan. Stryker soon learns the stranger is head of a religious cult that recruits teens, suppresses their individuality and uses them for labor. Like a bullet ricocheting in a pottery store, Stryker breaks every rule that the cult has, and discovers that the cult is plotting an even more sinister secret. Armed with nothing more than two guns, near superhuman strength, a machete, an axe, and a mean sneer, Stryker engages in a hilariously ruthless bloodbath of self-defense.

During the 1980s, one cartoon series ruled the airwaves... The Transformers. This paragon of consumerism was created with a dual purpose--to entertain and to galvanize children to buy the toys. Somewhere along the line, the show became a cult favorite, so in 1986 they fashioned an epic tale of good versus evil specifically for the big screen. The result looked vaguely like an animated remake of Star Wars. Who are the Transformers? The good guys are the Autobots: Optimus Prime, SoundWave, Jazz, Ultra Magnus, and many more. Their mortal enemies are the evil Decepticons, led by Megatron and StarScream. The Autobots must save their home planet from an evil entity known as Unicron (voiced by Orson Welles). At the same time, they must defend themselves from an all-out attack from the Decepticons. Along the way, lives are lost, battles are fought, and a new Autobot leader is born as another dies. The story and action never stop in a thrilling ride that often makes you forget that you're watching an '80s cartoon with inferior graphics. The violence will also come as a mild shock to those who haven't seen this film for a while--definitely a movie for the 8 and over audience. For those who grew up on this series, this is a movie that must be watched. Unlike cartoon serials before and after, The Transformers relied on solid stories and interesting characters, a manifesto the film itself upholds with gusto and grace while also being morally responsible. Don't underestimate this movie; there is definitely more to it than meets the eye. --Jeremy Storey

5 out of 5 stars Compare this to the latest movie (2007) and this one RULES! .......2007-07-04

To be perfectly clear here, this review is CO-WRITTEN by a person who loved Transformers when they were at the height of their popularity. If you had a kid like that, your house was probably filled with various transformers, some of which linked together to make one HUGE transformer.

I never fully appreciated the appeal of these toys but their power, their magic was indisputable. Day and night, they were a favorite toy, providing hours of imaginative play. If you were crazy about Transformers (or had a kid who was) you should relate to this review.

Anyway, according to my co-writer, who still has a serious attack of nostalgia when it comes to Transformers, the newest movie "sucks" and this old version "rules". I'll concede to his opinion. I do know that the toys became popular after the tv show became a favorite of kids and, from that point on, names like Optimus Prime and Decepticon rolled off the tongues of my kids (all males) as they started collecting them like mad.

Anyway, if you found the newest movie a disappointment, give this one a try. It certainly held the attention of a group of adult males who were suffering from some serious nostalgia (and disappointment) after seeing the newest movie. This one relieved some of that pain.

So take that for what its worth - and see what YOU think.

5 out of 5 stars Still a great film........2007-07-01

This has to be one of the best animated movies from my childhood. Nothing brings back such a glorious 80's sensation like this movie does. Naturally, I am probably a little biased because I grew up watching the Transformers cartoon and playing with the toys. But if anyone else did that like I did then they know this movie is the thing to have.

I won't give away any plot but I will say that this movie definately has some high points. The battle between Prime and Megatron is great, the music totally fits with the film and in no way (at least in my opinion) dates it, and the creators actually had the guts to kill off a lot of established characters. Add some great voice acting in with those points and you have a great animated film.

This is a great purchase for any Transformers fan, or any Sci-fi person.

3 out of 5 stars The pinnacle of the Transformers.......2007-06-15

My 3 stars pertains more to this new release than the movie. The movie gets a 5 without a doubt, but for me this special edition wasn't very special. My best friend was the one to buy this and I'm glad he did because to me, its a waste. Since I already own the original and I'm satisfied with that. I wont beat on a dead horse cause most of the reviewers went in very deep detail with the wide screen format and how cut and cropped this new release is. I was hoping for some deleted or newly added scenes to the movie and all of the original commercials even concerning the toyline. This was the only cartoon in the 80's that mattered to me. So I was really disappointed with the extras. However for those who has never seen this movie or have no knowledge of the original Transformers I'll try to be brief with it.

First off, If your new or looking for that nostalgic feeling you had years ago. Then I recommend buying the seasons. The seasons contain all of the character development of the Transformers before the movie. If you watch this just to rekindle some old fond memeories, its possible you may hate this and you won't give a damn about any of the characters, because they didn't get the chance to grow on you. You didn't experiance most of the heroics of several Autobots and what made them legends. Most importantly you won't feel the sorrow of watching some of the characters killed off or already on the ground destroyed. You will definitly never truly understand or appreciate the power struggle between Megatron and Starscream. So I advice those to watch seasons 1 and 2 to get a much better experiance of the movie. I'm not saying you have to watch the episodes. But I noticed some of the undeserved 1 star reviews concerning the movie itself was because people didn't know the characters.

Now for the movie itself. The Autobots and Decepticons continue their billion + years of war. This conflict was pretty brutal and saw the end of several characters that made the first 2 seasons milestones. New characters were developed and a brand new threat arised that jeopardized the existance of both waring armies. The animation is the absolute best you will see from anything Transformers. The 80's soundtrack was cool for that time. I just don't enjoy it the way I used too.

Transformers was and still is my favorite cartoon of the 80's. In fact this is the only one that I own and was able to sit down, watch, and enjoy. As far as I'm concerned I'll never get rid of it. This cartoon is timeless. And it can very easily stand up to or knock off just about everything that is out now, came out, and ready to comeout. And thats not just in my opinion either. I feel if you already own the original then this is good for a rental just to see the extras. If you want 2 copies of this movie than good for you. However, should you ever decide to purchase the complete Transformers collection. Also add Beast Wars and Beast Machines to your collection. You cannot go wrong with these.

5 out of 5 stars Good Movie.......2007-06-12

My boys love the Transformers Movie. I have no complaints. It arrived timely and in good condition.

A movie that only true horror buffs could love, Army of Darkness is officially part 3 in the wild and wacky Evil Dead trilogy masterminded by the perversely inventive director Sam Raimi, who would later serve as executive producer of the popular syndicated TV series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. Raimi's favorite actor, Bruce Campbell, returns as Ash (hero of the first two Evil Dead flicks), a hardware-store clerk who is magically transported--along with his beat-up Oldsmobile and a chainsaw attachment for his severed left forearm--to the brutal battlefields of the 14th century. He quickly assumes power (who else in the Middle Ages packs a shotgun and a chainsaw?), and unites his band of medieval knights against the dreaded Army of the Dead. Raimi gleefully subverts almost every horror-movie cliché as he serves up a nonstop parade of blood, gore, and vicious sword-bearing skeletons--an affectionate homage to animator Ray Harryhausen's classic Jason and the Argonauts. The frantic action is fun while it lasts, but even at 80 minutes Army of Darkness nearly wears out its welcome. You know that Raimi can maintain the mayhem for only so long before it grows tiresome, and fortunately this madcap movie quits while it's ahead. --Jeff Shannon

This movie was great, very entertaining and funny. If you love Night of the Living Dead, this is even better.

1 out of 5 stars Without Embeth Davidtz, this movie is garbage.......2007-04-12

The only thing reedeemable about this movie is the beautiful Embeth Davidtz, without her, the movie is pathetic. Honestly, this movie is one of the worst I ever witnessed. "The Mummy" doesn't even equal its patheticness, and that is saying something!!

1 out of 5 stars WORST MOVIE EVER!.......2007-03-29

Apparently for some reason, everyone loves this movie. They say watch it with fun friends. I did. It was so bad. There is no plot, it goes from one thing to another with no explanation. Unless you don't know a good movie from a bad one, don't get this. The "comedy" in it is so repeatative. He fought the mini version for it seemed like 10 minutes and he fought the deadites in the well for another half hour. The phrase it's so bad it's good don't even apply. It passed that point on how bad it is. The action is horrible, and you shouldn't waste your money or your time on the "greatness" this movie supposedly has. Disgrace to movies and horrible spin off of an H.P. Lovecraft theme.

3 out of 5 stars Great movie - bad transfer.......2007-02-28

I got this one mainly for the commentary track. The quality of the print was hit and miss. Yes, I know they added 15 minutes of footage from various sources, and that would account for some of the inconsistancy of the quality of the print, but there were other parts that are in the standard 82 min. version that just looked awful here. The Universal release isn't the long version, and there are no extras, but IMO the print was better. I understand the Boomstick edition looks even better, though I haven't seen it. Anchor Bay seems to have a history of using bad prints for their DVD releases, and this one would seem to fall into that category. I would recommend this for extreme fans only - just for the commentary, which is pretty good.

The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai: Across the 8th Dimension is one of the most agreeably insane movies ever made. Peter Weller stars as Buckaroo, an acclaimed neurosurgeon, particle physicist, and, of course, rock star. He travels with the Hong Kong Cavaliers, a band of hard-rocking scientists who are also really good dressers. Buckaroo's interdimensional experiments with his Operation Overthruster throw him (and the Earth) straight into the middle of an alien war, and before you know it, he's got just a few hours to save the world. Confused? Hang on, we're only 10 minutes into the movie. Buckaroo Banzai hurls you right into the middle of its comic-book universe and keeps going at a breakneck pace. It's chock-full of overlapping jokes (even as we're trying to make sense of Dr. Lizardo's hospital room, a voice calmly announces that "lithium is no longer available on credit" over the PA system), hilarious throwaway dialogue ("You're like Jerry Lewis: you give me hope to carry on."), and weirdness just for the sheer joy of it ("Why is there a watermelon there?" "I'll tell you later."). You'll want to watch it at least twice--there's just no way to catch everything the first time around. Ellen Barkin has a terrific time doing a dead-on film noir moll parody as Penny Priddy, and John Lithgow turns in a brilliant manic performance as Dr. Lizardo/John Whorfin. There is no reason not to own this movie unless you are cold and dead inside. Laugh while you can, Monkey Boys. --Ali Davis

Peter Weller plays that Renaissance Man, Buckaroo Banzai, a neurosurgeon, car racer, rock singer, and alien chaser in this overdone sci-fi adventure from 1984. After crashing his nuclear-fueled race car and causing a disturbance in the eighth dimension, Banzai releases some extremely unappealing aliens into our atmosphere. First-time director W.D. Richter (Late for Dinner) pulls out all the stops, resulting in a manic dash that is often incoherent. The intent may have been to re-create old-time serials with a pulp-fiction bent, but the screenplay, full of macho dialogue and cool poses, tries too hard. We could have done with a less complicated story and more character development. Still, consider this flawed fun, because it may be silly, but it is also clever. Originally released as The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the Eighth Dimension. -- Rochelle O'Gorman

Description

But when his sworn enemy, the demented Dr. Lizardo (Lithgow), devises a plot to steal the Overthruster and bring an evil army of aliens back todestroy Earth, Buckaroo goes cranium to cranium with the madman in an extra-dimensional battle thatcould result in total annihilation of the universe! *1993: Short Film/Live Action, Partners (Weller); 1983: Supporting Actor, Terms Of Endearment (Lithgow)

Something's wrong in the town of Santa Mira, California. At first, Dr. Miles Bennell (Kevin McCarthy) is unconcerned when the townsfolk accuse their loved ones of acting like emotionless imposters. But soon the evidence is overwhelming--Santa Mira has been invaded by alien "pods" that are capable of replicating humans and taking possession of their identities. It's up to McCarthy to spread the word of warning, battling the alien invasion at the risk of his own life. Considered one of the best science fiction films of the 1950s and '60s, this classic paranoid thriller was widely interpreted as a criticism of the McCarthy era (that's Senator Joseph, not actor Kevin), which was characterized by anticommunist witch-hunts and fear of the dreaded blacklist. Some hailed it as an attack on the oppressive power of government as Big Brother. However viewers interpret it, this original 1956 version of Invaders of the Body Snatchers (based on Jack Finney's serialized novel The Body Snatchers) remains a milestone movie in its genre, directed by Don Siegel with an inventive intensity that continues to pack an entertaining wallop. Look closely and you'll find future director Sam Peckinpah (an uncredited cowriter of this film) making a cameo appearance as a meter reader! The DVD release includes an interview with Kevin McCarthy, and for the first time on home video the film is presented in its original 2.35:1 widescreen aspect ratio. --Jeff Shannon

5 out of 5 stars A Story About One Man`s Resistance To Collectivism.......2007-06-16

The original version of The Invasion Of The Body Snatchers is an absolutely wonderful tale of how one man first tries to save his community from falling into a collectivist society. When this fails he tries save the individual identity of himself and the woman that he loves. Then when she joins the collectivist community he is left with no other alternative but to escape from this community and try to warn those living in other communities.

This is a terrific story that very much captures the political and social environment of the time that this movie was made. I highly recommend The Invasion Of The Body Snatchers. Also if you enjoy this movie you might want to considering reading 1984 by George Orwell.

5 out of 5 stars A great Cold War classic.......2007-05-16

I bought this DVD intending to teach it in a community college film class, but they didn't have the funds so the class didn't get approved. However, I'm pleased as punch at the chance to own this gem of 50's SF film. To watch this film is to fully understand Cold War paranoia, and the mood of the US during that time. Also, it's one of the few 50's SF films that don't descend into VERY silly "special" effects. Worth watching repeatedly.

4 out of 5 stars Plants are not so "harmless" after all..........2007-04-24

This film horrified audiences in 1956. It still does. The idea of some plant, some pod-based life form assuming the identity of your mother, father, sister or brother, somehow transferring the consciousness of those so transformed into an emotionless shadow of their former selves is a disconcerting notion. This, the original version of the story, is especially creepy. Shot in black and white, the special effects are clumsy by today's standards but they still work. There's just something about fine tendrils reaching out for you while you sleep that gets under your skin (no pun intended). The term "pod people" has become a fixture in the vernacular of the free-spirited and is used to describe those brainwashed, robotic individuals who, promising bliss, blindly follow some bleak, emotionless, sheep-like dogma shared by all the rest of them; relinquishing individual freedoms for the sake of the greater good. These beings want you to conform, they want to absorb you; to make you one of them, to assimilate you for your own sake. Is there anything scarier than being absorbed by the group at the risk of our individualism? This film is as much a satire of social conformity as it is SF horror. It strums those sensitive chords of nonconformity in all of us with a sharp and nasty fingernail. Most of us rail against the absorbers; they scare us to death. In 1956, perhaps the safest way to express the sentiment was to do so metaphorically, with pods and soul-sucking tendrils: "They're after you, you're next!", Kevin McCarthy screams in panic at the close of the film. Just a few years later, though, and thanks to the 60's and all that free thinking, hippy-esque social change that accompanied those years, we could put up a cooler, more direct objection to the absorption, and today's highly tuned refrain is: "Not me, you pod-headed bastard, you." Pod people. Thank Jack Finney and his Collier's serial for the concept and Daniel Mainwaring for the screenplay -- a mere decade after WW II.

5 out of 5 stars Invasion of the Body Snatchers.......2007-04-04

This is the all time, great, original classic. The remake is .......ok
at best. Add this to your classic movie collection.
Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars The First Is Still The Best.......2007-03-29

This is the original, black-and-white version of the movie. Unlike later movies that focus on gore, this one focusses on actual horror--the fear that one day you will wake up and the people you know will not be who they were, and you may not even know they are changed. Based on the book The Body Snatchers, it focusses on a small town doctor who begins hearing people say that their loved ones are not really their loved ones. From there he is introduced to a dead body that is slowly coming alive before his eyes, and a town...well, you should see it for yourself. This is first-rate speculative fiction, and a must-have classic for your film library.

Jane Fonda's memorable, zero-gravity striptease during the opening credits of this 1968 Roger Vadim movie is the closest the film comes to a liberated marriage of wit and sex. Based on a French comic strip, the story concerns the adventures of a 41st-century woman, who pretty much gets it on with whomever asks. The sci-fi sets were pretty interesting at the time, though they look rather anachronistic now. Appreciated today mostly as a camp classic, the movie is actually more trying than anything else. --Tom Keogh

A fantastic sci-fi sexual experience! Totally cosmic and Jane Fonda is a very hot woman!!
Worth it!

3 out of 5 stars Expired Cheese.......2007-05-25

I think "Barbarella" is best appreciated at a midnight showing with people shouting rude things at the screen. The flick is undermined by the lunkheaded direction of Roger Vadim. Did anybody explain to this guy that he was making camp? Also on display is some of the most garish art direction ever. Austin Powers would vomit. I did dig the shag carpeting in Barb's spaceship, though. What redeems this enterprise is the acting, not least Jane Fonda in the title role. Jane, consummate actress that she is, did understand the tongue-in-cheek aspects of the film. Jane's striptease over the opening credits is something to write home about. Good contributions are also given by David Hemings, Milo O'Shea, Anita Pallenberg, and Ugo Tognazzi. Venture into this flick for it's curiousity value and nothing else.

4 out of 5 stars "Your mission Barbarella: find Durand-Durand.".......2007-04-09

Jane Fonda stars in a title role of this famous cult sci-fi sex comedy as a space beauty in the variety of skimpy outfits. She looks great - all male (and female) creatures on a strange planet SoGo (Sodom and Gomorra?) drooled over her.

"Barbarella" (1968) directed by then Fonda's husband, Roger Vadim may be the silliest, the cheesiest, the campiest movie ever made but it is certainly one of the most entertaining comedies I've seen and is Fun with the capital "F". It is also very "pretty - pretty".

So, what do we have here? In the year 40.000, Barbarella "the Queen of the Galaxy" is sent by the President of Earth in search of the disappeared scientist named Durand Durand (finally I learned how the band got its name.) While looking for him, her space ship crashes on the planet Sogo where she encounters Pygar the Blind Angel (yes the man with the wings), Professor Ping - kind scientist (the celebrated and the finest mime artist Marcel Marceau in the rare speaking role), Dildano (David Hemmings of "Blowup") - the revolutionary who plots to overthrow the evil empire, Marcan - the barbarian who introduces Barbarella to an old fashioned love making (the advanced one is achieved by taking a pill and holding hands - welcome to the brave new world!) and The Great Tyrant - dangerous and very attractive ruler of Sogo (Anita Pallenberg, the object of Mick's, Brian's and Keith's desire and Mrs. Keith Richard at the time) who calls Barbarella "pretty-pretty" and invites her to come and play.

Fonda is quite good as a naive Barbarella and sometimes there is such an ironic and intelligent smile on her face that it should not surprise you what a fine actress she would eventually become.

5 out of 5 stars Barbarella is the unchallenged Queen of the Galaxy.......2007-03-18

After watching Jane Fonda as "Barbarella" I have nothing negative to say about her.

5 out of 5 stars Candy Floss.......2007-01-22

With a script by Terry Southern, author of Candy, this is the ultimate floss on the icing, and a totally memorable movie masterpiece. A brilliant plot, unforgettable dialogue ("de-crucify the angel, or I'll melt your face"), incredible special effects, stunning performances by all concerned. Subtle, deep and multi-layered. Maverick mad scientist invents a WMD and plans to rule the galaxy! Defeated by innocence, incompetence, sweetness and excessive sex! Not forgetting a flashy fashion quick-change every few minutes. What outfits! Very influential, and one of the milestone highlights of movie history, the full recognition of its unique merits lies in the distant future; but some of us, with remarkable prescience, can actually see that far ahead. All those sad, dull dumbos, who think it is just silly and camp, bad and boring, will be positronically erased and forgotten as the years, the centuries, the millennia and the stars roll by. Who needs to wait for the 41st millenium with this dvd in their collection?

What's completely and utterly baffling about Killer Klowns is not the plot--that's rather tidily summed up by the title--but the fact that it got made at all. According to the filmmakers, (the Chiodo brothers: Charles, Edward, and Stephen) all it took to convince the studio was a one-page treatment and a picture of a clown holding a gun. It boggles the mind. Anyway, some killer Klowns descend from outer space and start wrapping their hapless victims in cotton candy for later consumption. Debbie and Mike suspect something's amiss, but who will believe them? The movie's greatest asset is its willingness to play on the inherent creepiness of clowns. The Klowns are grotesque parodies of their big-top cousins, hiding hideous malformed teeth behind terrifying circus makeup. It's impossible to tell if Killer Klowns is truly meant to be scary, but it is compelling in its thoroughness: popcorn, balloon animals, and really big shoes are all used to their fullest effect. The only cast member you'll recognize immediately is veteran character actor John Vernon as Officer Mooney, but keep an eye out for Christopher Titus in a small role as Bob McReed. Then just sit back and stare open-mouthed in bewildered joy. --Ali Davis

Description

Finally the truth about clowns is out! Beneath their smirky sinister grins and wildly patterned clothes are clever killers from out of this world. A spaceshiplooking like a circus tentlands in a field near a small town, signaling the attack of deviant, red-nosed, balloon-twisting psychos from another world who plan to annihilate mankindby turning people into cotton candy! 4 out of 5 stars classic horror.......2007-05-15

This is a must have for the horror enthustist. It is a typical eighties cheesy horror flick, but a classic in my book. If you love B rated horror movies from the eighties, then you have to add this to your collection.

From the far reaches of space they came, seeking an unwary populace to devour and destroy! With their tiny car, floppy shoes, and bone-white faces, they crept into town one dark night. The KILLER KLOWNS had arrived, just in time for dinner! Yep, this amazing little low-budget movie is a must see / must own classic! Whether you love clowns or hate them, KKFOS belongs in every dvd collection! We get cotton candy cadaver coccoons, alien clown-larva popcorn pop-guns, and flesh-dissolving pies! We even get a boxing glove decapitation scene for added enjoyment! John Vernon (Animal House's Dean Wormer himself!) and Royal Dano (Messiah Of Evil) add their comedic talents to this hellish carnival of hilarity! Guaranteed 100% ridiculous and F-U-N! Buy immediately! P.S.- The "Clownzilla" sequence is my personal favorite. Very well done!...

Definitely scary to anyone who already is afraid of clowns.

It's hard to describe this movie - campy, yes, strange, definitely unsettling. But it's the John Massari score that stands out for me. I'm pleased to see that the soundtrack for Killer Klowns is now available. It's worth viewing for the music alone!

Who would have guessed that this clever, fast-paced creature feature from 1990 would become a beloved miniclassic worthy of its own Collector's Edition DVD? Tremors didn't actually break any new ground (even though its tunneling worm monsters certainly did), but it revved up the classic monster-movie formulas of the 1950s with such energetic enthusiasm and humor that it made everything old seem new again. It's also got a cast full of enjoyable actors who clearly had a lot of fun making the film, and director Ron Underwood strikes just the right balance of comedy and terror as a band of small-town rednecks battles a lot of really nasty-looking giant worms. The special effects are great, the one-liners fly fast and furious between heroes Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward (and yes, that's country star Reba McEntire packin' awesome firepower), and it's all done with the kind of flair one rarely associates with goofy monster flicks like this. Followed by a direct-to-video sequel (Tremors: Aftershocks), this horror thriller was given the deluxe treatment for its DVD release. Bonus features include an original "making-of" documentary, previously unseen video showing the creation of the worm-creatures, outtakes from the film, the original ending not shown in theaters, theatrical trailers, and a gallery of production photographs. If you're a fan, consider this a must-have disc! --Jeff Shannon

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars What a hoot!.......2007-04-12

What a hoot! A great cast that plays this crazy story perfectly straight. They get us to buy into every bit of the story no matter how wrong every "scientific" premise of the story is. Each of the characters is colorful and we root for them in the way they individually deal with the crisis of these "new" creatures attacking their valley home.

Valentine McKee (Kevin Bacon) and Earl Bassett (Fred Ward) are the closest thing to heroes and normal among the males in the movie. They become the leaders and the ones the plot leans on. The most colorful characters are Burt and Heather Gummer (Michael Gross and Reba McEntire) as the survivalist couple with enough food storage and weaponry to stand for five years against an invading army. The Michael Gross character is the one who is in all four movies and a few episodes of the TV series based on the movies. Although, a few others lasted through one or more of the sequels (think of Tony Genaro's Miguel). However, this is the best of the series.

Victor Wong, whom we greatly miss, is terrific as the local shop owner, Walter Chang. In every role I have seen him play, I enjoy his presence and think he makes the movie better.

I guess the whole "Dune" series made the idea of large worms that could move through dirt as easily as a fish through water more believable. And the monsters in this movie are quite good. Because they are underground we believe that all the moving dirt, floors, walls, and machines to be the results of those things being down there and threatening not only the characters, but us! We don't want to get eaten by them any more than they people inhabiting the movie.

And while things get worse and worse for the cast, we still enjoy their inventiveness in trying to get out. That worms are as intelligent as these seem to be does require another leap of faith. But we are willing to make it for this story.

Lots of fun!

5 out of 5 stars One ultra cool monster flick.......2007-03-28

Tremors is a monster movie reminiscent of those old 1950s creature features. The small town of Perfection, Nevada finds its population dwindling due to the menace of underground creatures. The few remaining residents fight for their lives as they're cut off from the rest of civilization.

Tremors has become a cult classic over the years and deservedly so. It's a great blend of comedy and horror, and has enough action and one-liners to keep everyone entertained. Kevin Bacon (in his most memorable role) and Fred Ward lead the pack of unlikely heroes including a seismologist (Finn Carter), a gun-loving couple (Michael Gross and Reba McEntire) and a few other helpless souls. The witty script gave the worms a run for their money; the tactics the characters come up with to outrun them are both ingenious and hilarious. Although this movie is a lighthearted one, there are still plenty of suspenseful moments. Ron Underwood brilliantly helms this little film with the hand of a pro; let's face it, in the wrong hands, Tremors might have been a disastrous and forgettable film.

If you like left-field comedies, monster movies, horror films or are simply in the mood for a fun flick, Tremors is the way to go. The DVD has a lot of extra features including a making-of, an alternate opening and original ending, and movie trailers. Skip the sequels; they don't have the heart and freshness of the original.

5 out of 5 stars Hilarious.......2007-03-24

The first time I saw this movie was with my dad. He rented it and I thought oh man, another cheesy sci-fi movie. But after watching it, it's hilarious. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking for some dry humor and crude jokes. I liked this movie so much I bought the first and second one a few weeks ago.

It will keep your pulse racing as much as make you laugh. This is the best of the series, but I must admit I like the 3 sequels too! The DVD is a good transfer.

The murder rate is as high as an elephant's eye in this flaccid adaptation of Stephen King's short story. While driving through Nebraska en route to a new job, medico Burt (Peter Horton) and his wife Vicky (a pre-Terminator Linda Hamilton) nearly run over a mutilated boy who staggers from the cornfields. Seeking help, they enter the town of Gatlin, whose under-20 residents have butchered their parents per the decree of junior-grade holy roller Isaac (John Franklin), who preaches the word of a being called "He Who Walks Behind the Rows." King's original story (from his 1978 collection Night Shift) was a lean and brutal mélange of Southern-gothic atmosphere and E.C. Comics-style gore, which scripter Greg Goldsmith effectively neutralizes by adding a youthful narrator (a grating Robbie Kiger) and putting an upbeat spin on the story's morbid conclusion. Fritz Kiersch's direction is TV-movie flat, with the sole inspired moment (hideous religious iconography glimpsed during a bloody "service") delivered as a throwaway. Aside from Horton and Courtney Gains (as Isaac's hatchet man Malachai), the performances are dreadful, and the depiction of the Lovecraftian monster-god as a sort of giant gopher inspires more laughter than terror. Amazingly, the film spawned six sequels; Franklin (Cousin Itt in the Addams Family films) later appeared in and wrote 1999's Children of the Corn 666. --Paul Gaita

Malachai is the frightening one here in this adaptation of Stephen Kings short story Children of the Corn.
This movie will give you the creeps during the scenes through the corn fields, the fact that the town has been rid of adults, and then there is the scene--an unexpected scene that involves a child and a car ...enough said. Watch the movie and feel the fright for yourself.

4 out of 5 stars No adults aloud!.......2007-02-11

This is an OK movie. I've seen it three or four times and I decided to buy it. I didn't even bother watching all the others because movies that aren't that good usually don't have good sequals either. But this one is good enough to watch although not scary at all. Malachai is pretty cool.

3 out of 5 stars Solid 80's horror from a Stephen King short story.......2007-01-29

Like the majority of adapted Stephen King stories, this 80's horror flick falls short of the source material, although it's pretty cool to actually see the source material on the screen. (Literally, a paperback copy of Night Shift is on the dashboard in front of Linda Hamilton in the opening driving sequence).

The original story is only 30 pages long and a little different from the movie, but again, like the majority of King's work, it just doesn't transfer directly to the screen. The story is slightly modified, but not terribly so. One day the children in a small town decide to rise up and kill all the adults in the town in order to worship HE WHO WALKS BEHIND THE ROWS. This plot-line goes back to one of King's semi-obsessions: the idea that there are small towns out there so remote that no one would even notice when an entire town is massacred and deserted... that is, until a pair of unsuspecting travelers happen upon it.

Rating this movie based on special-effects and film quality standards of today would hardly be fair, and I have a feeling that for the 80's this was a quality film, but obviously, today the climactic scenes, and some stuff leading up to that are pretty "corny"... I knew I'd have to say that.

I haven't seen any of the sequels, and I suspect they're not that great, but this film is worth the time to watch if you're into horror movies. The kids playing Isaac and Malakai are definitely creepy and poor special effects are forgivable if you have creepy kids backing it up.

5 out of 5 stars OUTLANDER,this is slashing horror.......2006-12-27

When I saw this movie I was blown away.It was sad that ALL the adults died, but the weirdest thing is that the signs to gatlin are every where they confuse a couple that are lost on a trip across the country when they stumble onto these children that hail to a demon in the corn when the kids get to old they are sorry, can't tellyou have to see the movie.

1 out of 5 stars Terrible.......2006-11-18

I could not sit through this movie. The acting and screenplay are terrible. This film could be described as a bad made-for-tv movie at best.

I ended up fast-forwarding though the entire movie after the first 30 minutes and turned the player off before I reached the end. I couldn't take it anymore. This movie is one of the worst I've attempted to watch in a long time.
