Description
Karate Fit is a dynamic new method of fitness training originated by 2001 ISKA World Champion martial artist, Susan Reeves. Not to be confused with "cardio" karate, this workout focuses more heavily on the advantages of true martial arts training with impressive results in a fun and innovative format! Because there is no music used the Karate Fit workout provides a more "true-to-form" style and allows moves to be performed at their optimum pace rather than keeping up with a beat. This also results in a workout that is safer and more effective than other "karate style" workouts. Because Karate Fit incorporates three essential training elements (cardio vascular, muscle toning and flexibility), Susan has found that this style of karate training is the best method to shape your body. Men and women from beginner to advanced will surely find Karate Fit to be a "body changing" experience!

2 out of 5 stars Beware my copy is dvd-r.......2007-02-08

The workout itself is very good. However mine is a dvd-r and has started skipping around. I was only able to do the upper body cardio, the upper body with weights and the floorwook. That clocked in to be around 30 min. Also if you try to watch this dvd before actually doing the workout, you can get motion sickness. I don't know what the cameraman was thinking with the weird angles but that also takes away from the workout.

4 out of 5 stars Great workout, but kicks a little too fast.......2006-10-07

I'm a black belt in Tang Soo Do, currently training for my 2nd dan. I really enjoyed this DVD, but found that the fully extended kicking drills were a bit too fast to allow correct form. It's easy enough to keep up if you do taebo-style kicks, but if you're trying to keep correct form it's very difficult. The side kick drill in particular encourages you to twist the knee in order to increase the speed.

I would also have like to see stretching of individual muscle groups after the muscle endurance sections. For example, after the front kick drills, stretch the quads and hip flexors. After the side kicks, stretch the glutes, and so on.

3 out of 5 stars Class on Acid.......2006-09-01

This workout is great and of course works (as do all workouts when you stick to them)----but Whoever was behind the camera--shooting the footage of this Karate Fit class--What were they ThINKING?! Some of its sideways and random movements sometimes away from the instructor when shes saying something new...seriously...An inexperienced camera person would have a little more sense to keep the camera more still than what was done in this video.

4 out of 5 stars Great workout, but poor production quality.......2006-05-27

Wow. I just finished working out to this DVD, and I am really glad I bought it. My entire body feels good and worked hard.
I am so sorry the quality of the DVD is as poor as it is. They had to send me a second DVD, because the first one I ordered stopped midway and just wouldn't continue no matter what DVD player I used. The second one has serious sync problems with sound, and the digital images stop and start abruptly throughout. If I didn't feel so great from this intense yet safe workout, I think I'd have to shelve or return it. Sue should redo this one. It is truly one of the best overall workouts for both strength and flexibility I have used. I have back problems, but this workout is fine even for my tricky back. I really do feel like I worked every muscle!

5 out of 5 stars An Authentic martial arts workout for newbies and veterans alike.......2006-03-24

Susan Reeves managed to create an effective martial arts program based on authentic karate moves without falling prey to the gimmicks of psuedo-kickboxing videos that flood the market today. The focus of the video is on kicking and flexibility. There is also some excercises involving the hands, but the majority draw from use of the feet.

Ms. Reeves is a very motivating instructor and her use of Japanese counting to pace the workout is impressive. Each excercise is simple enough to perform, which makes this DVD a recommended purchase for new students. Seasoned martial artists will also find the workout as an excellent supplement for days between sessions at the dojo.
