Lakota Leader.......2006-05-04
Crazy Horse never took a photograph or signed any documents. Thus, this Biography learns from him in a unique way: it replays recorded interviews in the 1930s about him from tribal members that knew him. The documentary shows photos of other Sioux nationals at the time. This work includes footage of cowboys riding and Indians riding, however, they never say from where this footage originated. It did not seem like the cheesy reinactments of many modern documentaries.
The interviewees here were male and female, Native American and white. However, unlike many works in the Biography series, they were mostly academics with few laypersons as interviewees.
While Europeans may have forced others to come to them or seduced them in, this documentary, and others show that some non-Europeans resisted the temptation. Crazy Horse belongs in the same category as Brazil's Quilombo, Haiti's L'Ouverture, Nat Turner in the American South, or Japan's Ieyasu and the Tokugawa samurai.
I had no idea that Crazy Horse and Sitting Bull had the same tribal affiliation and lived during the same time. This is like the dualism of Malcolm X and Dr. King or Da Vinci and Michaelangelo. I wish the work would have said more about the relationship between the two leaders.

This movie is an insult.......2007-06-07
This movie is horrible. Don't buy it. I am lucky to have looked at a friend's copy. It insults the memory of the great Shaka Zulu. It must have been painful for Celes to act in this silly movie
which makes no historical sense.
A Disappointment.......2007-03-22
I really enjoyed the Shaka Zulu miniseries which featured this same cast. For that reason I was expecting more of the same. I got the same cast but I did not get the same enjoyment. This one was not worth much.
The story is of the furthering encroachment by the English and the Boers into the Zulu kingdom. Shaka is not a king to be trifled with and is in many way "primitive" but that does not keep him from sophisticated thinking as well. He is portrayed as a great leader of his people who can be violent but who is also willing and indeed eager to learn new things. So much they got right.
A great part of this story tells of Shaka being betrayed and captured by slavers. He vows vengeance but tempers that vengeance because of the example of an Englishwoman who shows him kindness. This part of the story is very simplistic and is dramatically flat. So too is most of the rest of the story. The one good acting job in this sequel is that of the title role. He tries to portray the complexity of the character. The rest are one dimensional.
Means well but ends horribly.......2007-03-22
This movie is pretty hard to watch for anyone who likes a good drama or historical movies. Every scene was over the top and tried its best to make you care. Miss Farewell and Cpt. Prentice falling in love is nausiating. Yet, this tacky scene is trumped by the pitiful image of Grace Jones dead, sitting up with eyes open!!!!, because her man, Shaka Zulu, was away too long! The only highlights of the movie are the scenes where Shaka kicks butt and saves the day. The downside to that is the action scenes are so off the wall there's no point in saying it is based on a true story. Ex1-Shaka runs across Africa, on foot!, to kill a rivile king. Ex2-Shaka breaks the slave shackels from his wrists and takes over a slave ship single handed!
It's one of those you have to see once to tell people it's nothing like the real miniseries movies.
For the record, one of the worst sequels ever made. Should not be allowed to have the name "Shaka Zulu" on the cover!
Disappointed.......2007-02-01
This is not the movie I was expecting. I thought it would be the film I saw on TV several years ago.
It might have been good before Hollywood got a hold of it........2006-12-14
It must have been completly exhausting for Henry Cele to carry this movie for an hour and a half. You rarely see such true stage presence. It's too bad it was wasted in this movie. It gave a few shining monments of social criticism on the English colonial system and slave trade, but spent the rest of the time mooning over the weak romantic subplot.

Excellent.......2007-01-04
This product was brand new and the picture and image quality was clear and easy to understand. Thanks for a job well done and I look forward to do more business with you in the future and once again, thanks for a job well done and keep up the good work.
Action-less action movie.......2003-06-19
I've seen several of Doplh Lundgren's films. SHOWDOWN IN LITTLE TOKYO had to have been one of his best, and he excelled as the cop who I nicknamed "SGT. SAMURAI". I also liked some of his other films like SWEEPERS, and Lundgren made a great bad guy in UNIVERSAL SOLDIER.
These days, he's suffered the fate of so many karate stars out there to be condemned to only direct-to-video films. He may never be in another theatrical fim again, but that doesn't mean he can't still make good films. I rented this and popped it into the DVD player, having read reviews of it on .... There, it was classified as an action;martial arts;science fiction hybrid, and that appealed to me. I rented WARRIOR hoping to see some of Lundgren's kung fu on display in an exciting action film.
And that's the problem. This movie has much less action than Lundgren fans and Lundgren himself deserve. Oh, what little action there is in this flick is pretty well staged and has Lundgren showing off his martial arts prowess, and earns this film 2 stars in my book. The story is pretty clever to. An earthquake separating California from the mainland U.S., and it is then overrun by inmates of the maximum securiy prison.
That sounds like the perfect setup for an action film, doesn't it? Of course. So why didn't the filmmakers get it right. Didn't they know that action films THAT HAVE ACTION are popular for a reason? Apparantly not. This is the kind of action film that was made in the days when guys like Davey Crockett were popular. Thank God we've gotten past that.
Lundgren's career seems to be at a crossroads now, not so much because he's stuck doing direct-to-video, but because he did this movie. I have no doubt that his other films and his next film will better more enjoyable than this, but if he does continue to make this kind of action film, where the action is running on empty, he may be demoted further from direct-to-video to released-on-video-after-sitting-on-the-studio-shelf-for-three-years.
Not a chop socky action-fest....But still good.......2003-02-07
This movie without a doubt has the least amount of action sequences in it then any other Dolph Lundgren movie. And the one that it does have is very short, but skillfully done. Still the movie is never boring. Even though the movie at times does not make since its still has a fairly decent script with solid acting. Definatly worth a rental, and by no means Dolphs worst film.
A movie of epic terror... for anyone forced to watch it.......2002-07-15
Seldom is a film so bad that I waste my time reviewing it, but this action fiasco is simply so horrible it's worth the effort. I am a fan of the post-apocalyptic genre, and while I've never ranted at the Academy for overlooking him at Oscar time, I have on enough occassions enjoyed Dolph Lungren that I thought we had a chance here. Ninety minutes later, I was ready to go find someone to give me a hug and make me forget having ever seen it. This film fails in every possible way, and action film with no action, a post-apocalyptic with only passing reference to peril and no cool costuming eye candy, a war story with no discernable plot or point, a romance with all the chemistry of a stale pop-tart. This film couldn't even manage to be offensive. I'm sure everyone shares blame in it, the writers, the actors, the director. For goodness sake, if you have some critical need to see this, be it Dolph Lungren fan or masochism, wait for a tv broadcast. Waste as little money as possible.
Okay, Not Great.......2002-02-02
Dolph is the leader of a group of survivors living on an army base after an earthquake isolates California from the rest of the US.
I love Dolph in just about everything, but this movie really suffered from the lack of a decent script.
The writer, just couldn't seem to decide whether to do a 'survival' film, mad max, or some something like the "Stand." What we get is a hodge podge of several decent ideas, with none of them actually going anywhere. Dolph limps valiantly through the storyline, trying to hold it together, with dialog revolving around eating cans of alpo and finding water. Plot threads are left hanging like tinsel.
This movie would've been much better, if they had made it a straight action flick, and left out the hordes of urine drinking, heroin-shooting inmates.
I give this movie 2 stars, for what it could've been.

Brawny blond longhair Richard Hill is the rogue barbarian hero Deathstalker in this hilariously slapdash sword-and-sorcery adventure. Armed with a sword that makes him invincible (provided by an otherwise completely useless sidekick), he heads off for a tournament of warriors sponsored by an evil wizard with a nasty plot to kill all his rivals... but don't worry about the plot because it makes no sense. This shot-in-Argentina, Roger Corman production features badly staged swordfights, loads of gratuitous nudity, female mud wrestling, trolls in bad rubber masks, and a funky eyeball-eating demon sock puppet. Former Hugh Hefner girlfriend Barbi Benton seems rather embarrassed in her role as a whiny harem girl. John Terlesky took over the title role in the sequel (Deathstalker II: Duel of the Titans) while topless warrior woman costar Lana Clarkson graduated to her own series, Barbarian Queen. --Sean Axmaker

I've seen worse.......2007-03-29
Those of you slamming this one haven't seen enough bad movies. Take my word for it I have seen an abundence of bad movies. This one doesn't stink. "Red Sonja" stinks. I guess partly because with Arnold Schwarzenegger in it I thought it might have a decent story, acting, and music like "Conan the Barbarian". Was I ever wrong. This one doesn't take itself so serious I don't think. That or it was campy enough it seemed to catch my interest. Fans of silly sword and sandal movies probably won't hate it.
Deathstalker.......2006-06-07
Ladies before you comdemn me for my rating read my review first. I give it 5 stars because of how handsome Richard Hill was! That guy had an amazing bod!!!! What woman wouldn't want him! Also the 4 stars is for the warrior, the sorcery and the plot of going to a mysterious medevial planet. However I give 1 star for the RAUNCHY NUDITY,AND SEX SCENES! So 5 stars minus 1 star equals 4 stars. All you guys out there who insulted Richard Hill over how cheesy and lousy he was as an actor, you're probably, most likely ugly, homely-looking, unattractive, beer-belly dudes who make all women cringe in digust! You insult him because you're just jealous of his good-looks!
Non-existent, uncomprehensible mess of fantasy schlock-making........2006-03-04
DEATHSTALKER is perfect for B-fantasy movie fans; this barely 80-minute travesty of filmmaking features everything hecklers can ask for--non-existent plotting, terrible acting (save for at least a raspy-sounding old lady), laughable scripting and schlock editing, and bargain-basement style background settings. There are no characters that come across as likeable or interesting (in particular, the lead doesn't have ANYTHING appealing about him), and the actors assembled barely do anything to rise above the F-grade material. If that's not enough, then how about the lack of a compelling plot (which this movie has nothing of the sort) to make DEATHSTALKER qualify as a major turkey? I was also offended that the women in this movie barely serve any purpose other than to 1) be topless and/or scantily clad; 2) get raped; 3) have sex with the hero; 4) all of the above. In addition, the background music is hideous; a bizarre mess of electronic noise, cheesy choral bursts, and blaring orchestral cacophony. Ear numbing and eye numbing all in one packed with nary a thing to keep one interested, DEATHSTALKER is probably best suited for folks looking for something to laugh at (and believe me, there's plenty of that in here). Otherwise, I do not recommend this 100th-grade CONAN wanna-be to anyone in the least.
Deathstalker DVD.......2005-07-20
Quality of color and sound of DVD is first rate. The packaging was basic, but acceptable.
The Epidemy of Bad Films.......2005-06-03
Ever wonder what really makes a film bad? Look no further as you will find every element of bad film in this atrocious production. This film has absolutely no comprehensible plot. At the same time, Richard Hill and pretty much every other actor who participated in this film is a prime example of bad acting. A bad Kung-Fu film from China would be Oscar material compared to this worthless crap: it would even have a better script and dialogues. I could go on and on but let me just say that I recall seeing this film 22 years ago when I was 12 and I found it comically repugnant even then. One star is too kind of a rating for this piece of junk.
