A thinking person's thriller, Spy Game employs dense plotting without sacrificing the kinetic momentum that is director Tony Scott's trademark. The film has the byzantine scope of a novel, focusing on veteran CIA operative Nathan Muir (Robert Redford), whose protégé Tom Bishop (Brad Pitt) is scheduled for execution in a Chinese prison. It's Muir's last day before retiring (cliché alert!), and Bishop is being deliberately sacrificed by oily CIA officials to ensure healthy trade with China. Muir has 24 hours to rescue Bishop and his perfunctory love interest (Catherine McCormack), and Spy Game connects the mentor's end-run strategy to flashbacks of his student's exploits in Berlin, Beirut, and beyond. Ambitious but emotionally bland--and not as exciting as Scott's Enemy of the State--Spy Game offers pass-the-torch humor between leather-faced Redford and pretty boy Pitt, and although their dialogue is occasionally limp, the movie compensates with efficient style and substance. --Jeff Shannon

The adventures of pint-sized secret agents Juni and Carmen Cortes (Daryl Sabara and Alexa Vega) continue. As Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over opens, Juni has left the spy agency and launched a career as a private detective--but when he learns that his sister Carmen has disappeared into a nefarious multi-user computer game, he agrees to go in after her, with the assistance of his grandfather (Ricardo Montalban). Three-dimensional special effects launch us into a topsy-turvy world of battling robots, souped-up motorcycle races, frogs on pogo sticks, surfing on hot lava, and much, much more. The story is even more incoherent than an actual computer game--but the movie storms along, driven by writer/director/editor/everything-else Robert Rodriguez's sheer visual enthusiasm. Featuring Sylvester Stallone, Antonio Banderas, Carla Gugino, and everyone else who appeared in the first two Spy Kids movies. --Bret Fetzer

best kids action movie ever!.......2007-03-07
This has got to be the best kids action movie ever! I rented this movie
for a week and watched it 5 times and loved it. Believe me when you see this you are going to want to buy this like me! I have seen every one
except spy kids 2 {Island of Lost Dreams}. The basic outline of Spy Kids
Game Over is Carmon Cortez {Alexa Vega} gets stuck in a virtual reality
game trying to turn it off {to find out why you will need to watch it} and
Juni Cortez {Daryl Sabara} Must fight his way through the levels to save his sister and shut down the game at the same time. If he fails his mission,GAME OVER! I hope you will enjoy the dvd like I did!
Spy Kids 3.......2007-02-07

Operation Dinner Out!.......2007-07-02
Phenomenally well done spy/suspense film which keeps you captivated the entire film as to what is going on, where the movie is going, and how all the pieces are going to fit together in the end.
You have Robert Redford, playing a veteran field operative for the CIA named Nathan Muir, whom has one last day of work for the bureau before he retires. He's tipped off by outside sources that something has gone wrong with his protoge Tom Bishop, played by Brad Pitt, whom is a another CIA field operative whom has been recruited and trained by Nathan Muir. Muir arrives at work on his last day of work to figure out what exactly is going on.
During the next 24 hours, Nathan Muir pieces together that Tom Bishop has be captured by the Chinese for espionage and will be executed within 24 hours if the USA doesn't claim him. The upper tier of management at the CIA isn't going to claim/rescue Tom Bishop. Instead, letting him be executed by the Chinese because the U.S. President is about to visit China the following week regarding future trade between the U.S. & China.... It is the CIA's take that claiming Bishop will look badly on the US and ruin any future trade with China. To make matters worse, Bishop wasn't on any official assignment to China on behalf of the CIA and the US has no idea why he has broken into a Chinese Prison.... So the real question being asked is by the CIA: Is Tom Bishop a rogue agent OR not?
Throughout the rest of the movie we see Nathan Muir using his skills as a field operative within the CIA's headquarters to find out what is going on with Tom Bishop. During this time, we find out how Nathan Muir & Tom Bishop became acquainted and the nature of their relationship, what kind of man each is, through the course of flashbacks that Muir's character relates to a group of upper management whom want to know more about Bishop's character. Muir only tells them as much as they need to know as he plans to rescue Bishop from China before the 24 hour time period once he finds out from upper management where Tom Bishop is being held.
The twists and turns throughout this movie show us how Nathan Muir rescues Tom Bishop and what/why Tom Bishop was doing in China in the first place. It is one fantastic movie that is great to watch every time!
good moive , terrible picture quality.......2007-03-01
A very god movie as far as content, but terrible picture quality as far as it being high def. I would have to say don't waste your $$ on the HD-DVD version and just by the regular DVD, they both have the same picture quality.
Good Guys.......2007-02-15
Good movie to have and stay with, both main actors are a real classic, will make for a good collection addition.
mind-twisted movie with sexiest actors of two generations.......2007-01-27
What a great mind twisting movie. While Robert Redford and Brad Pitt's characters run the gamut of teacher-student to friends to former friends they still understand what each other is all about. As the movie moves into its final stages and the cloak and dagger picks up it becomes even more engrossing. This is a move, somewhat, in the vein of "Sneaker" with the little, individual agent, running against the grain of the agency.
A very good movie, recommended to anyone who likes the double cross, triple cross type surprise or the little man outsmarting the big arrogant man.
A must-own for any Tony Scott fan.......2006-11-24
Ridley's younger brother has created his own brand of of action movie (Enemy of the State, Man on Fire). Thanks to Scott's distinctive cinematography, pacing, music and production values, Spy Games succeeds despite the mildly self-conscious performances of the leads, Redford and Pitt. In Spy Game, Scott does his typically masterful job creating a sense of place recreating Viet Nam, Cold War Berlin and the Middle East in the early 1980's. His attention to small details and the choice of supporting actors make repeated viewings a pleasure.

The memoirs of game-show creator-host Chuck Barris (the man responsible for The Newlywed Game and The Gong Show) are the inspiration for this sneaky biopic, which not only covers Barris's television career, but also his exploits--unsubstantiated, but also not disproved--as a government assassin. As Barris, Sam Rockwell gives a gutsy, manic-depressive, warts-and-all performance, depicting how Barris cheated repeatedly on his longtime girlfriend Penny (Drew Barrymore), was recruited into the CIA by a stone-faced agent (George Clooney, who also makes a stylish directorial debut), created some of the most popular yet reviled TV shows of the 1970s and '80s, and had a torrid affair with a mysterious, beautiful operative (Julia Roberts). For a screenplay by Charlie Kaufman (Being John Malkovich, Adaptation), Confessions of a Dangerous Mind is pretty straightforward, letting Barris's fevered brain speak for itself. The result manages to be lurid, comic, and oddly philosophical. --Bret Fetzer
Description
George Clooney (OCEAN'S ELEVEN), Drew Barrymore (CHARLIE'S ANGELS: FULL THROTTLE), and Sam Rockwell (THE GREEN MILE), star in the comedy thriller that poses an irresistible question: What would happen if a wildly successful TV producer was also a top-secret CIA assassin? While a maverick creator of America's favorite game shows gains notoriety for his smash television hits, he is also drawn into a shadowy world of danger as a covert government operative! But soon his life begins to spiral out of control -- both of them! Directed by George Clooney and based on Chuck Barris' cult-classic autobiography, with a script by Charlie Kaufman (ADAPTATION), this entertaining hit delivers comedy to keep you laughing . . . and intrigue to keep you guessing!
Customer Reviews:
A Very Funny, Star-Packed, and Deeply Disturbed Romp.......2007-04-03
A movie that combines "Ocean's Eleven" stars and a core storyline from "A Beautiful Mind" with the TV progenitor of Simon Cowell? It seems unlikely, as does much of the book this film's script was based on, yet it all comes together well in a very weird, but hilarious piece of entertainment.
Sam Rockwell is dead-on as game show producer Chuck Barris, who created not only two staples of American television mediocrity (The Dating Game, The Newlywed Game), but also the "American Idol" of the 1970s -- The Gong Show. The only differences between Barris' production and today's "Idol" are that Barris featured ONLY bad wanna-bes, so there were no recording contracts and such offered, and his judges were a lot funnier, as was he. Of course, viewers were different back then, too, in that they didn't know what to make of a show on which struggling "talent" were verbally abused. Today, that's half of Idol's viewership. In any case, Rockwell's portrayal of him is perfect.
Equally good are Drew Barrymore, as Barris' on-again, off-again, on-again love interest, George Clooney as Barris' supposed CIA handler, and fellow assassin Julia Roberts. In fact, Barrymore is considerably better here than in most of her roles. The appearance of Rutger Hauer also made me laugh, especially given the tough guy roles he used to play. And cameos by Brad Pitt and Matt Damon are priceless.
As for the "A Beautiful Mind" reference, Barris' assertion that he served as a CIA assassin during that period is so absurd that it immediately made me think of the Russell Crowe/Jennifer Connelly film's delusional spy sequences. It's also fitting considering that the central message of Barris' book is that it is immensely painful to have a brilliant mind in early life, yet end up wasting it on developing cheap fodder like "The Dating Game." (Pretty much the story of American televison in general.)
Don't get me wrong -- this is NOT a movie classic. Still, Barris is such a weird yet bright man that the film is fun throughout. And its depiction of this period of TV-making in America is funny, believable, and all too insightful as to how we ended up with the flood of "reality" and game shows that pollute our TV screens today. The film blames Barris, because he did himself, but it's the networks that pushed and paid for this dreck, and still do.
If you have an absurdist bone in your body, you'll at least get several laughs out of this. Enjoy.
"The winner is the one who doesn't blow his brains out.".......2006-12-13
`Confessions of a Dangerous Mind' has its fair share of followers. I, for one, am not one of them. I just couldn't get into this film the way I wanted to. I couldn't find much about it that made me all that interested. It covers the life of famed TV host Chuck Barris, the creator of shows like `The Dating Game' and `The Gong Show' but what this film really tries to chronicle is his supposed (never proven, never denied) stint as an assassin for the CIA. This isn't handled the best way and it ends up coming off a bit far fetched. Even his recruitment is a scene that makes me laugh; like anyone would just walk up to you and offer you a job as an assassin.
Sam Rockwell does a fine job here, but he's easily upstaged by the two women in his life, long time girlfriend Penny (Barrymore) and fellow assassin Patricia (Roberts). This being Clooney's debut in directing he didn't do terrible...he did far better in the directing department then he did in the acting for his Jim Byrd was so stiff and unbelievable it was laughable. Actually, my favorite scene of incredible acting came when Brad Pitt and Matt Damon cameo as two contestants on `The Dating Game' who get passed up for the overweight loser sitting next to them...the best scene in the movie and it only lasted a few seconds. So it has its moments of comedy but for the most part this film is far fetched, drug out and meandering, so much so that it loses interest and speed long before it should.
so under appreciated.......2006-11-10
This movie is great - great plot- great story - great cast. Clooney does an awesome directing job here. One of the few films I left in the theatre saying - "I'm gonna buy that on DVD."
Delusional and Paranoid Meltdown .......2006-07-25
I like films that deal with Faustian characters who trade their soul for money and fame. Take Boogie Nights and Mulholland Dr., two of my favorites. Now Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. Like those other two movies, we have a character who throws his whole life away to become a glittery celebrity. As such, Chuck Barris creates such abominations as Dating Game, Newlywed Game, The Gong Show. His TV ideas we learn are born out of his disgust for the human race: its need to be seen on TV even in a foolish light; its love of money even if it means selling out your spouse. In addition to seeing Barris' inner mind work as he creates these popular programs, we see his parallel life--mostly delusional we are to assume--of his job in the CIA, complete with killing 33 people. We assume this delusion is designed to make him feel important.
The film truly captures the pathos of the Faustian Bargain and is even suggestive, especially with its mother conflict and the need for unconditional love, of the masterpiece Citizen Kane.
it wouldve been perfect if theyd shown eunice singing "feelings".......2006-07-04
i liked "the gong show" 30 years back, but the spoofs of it were always sophomoric and obvious (save for a brilliant moment when eunice on "the carol burnett show" appeared). but the ultimate goof on it is chuck barris's autobiography, wherein he "reveals" his alternative life as a cia hit man. this movie takes you along on a hallucinogenic ride, and if you are willing to enjoy it, you will. first-time director (and costar) george clooney, as well as julia roberts do great work, but the drew barrymore character just seems to drag the story down. and sam rockwell as barris gives what *shoulda* been a star making performance. if its ten minutes too long (it is), its still a grand concept.

His attention to small details and the choice of supporting actors make repeated viewings a pleasure.

fantastic 3D, and not a bad movie too.......2007-03-29
I already had this movie on DVD but the normal red/blue glasses 3D version - it was really hard on the eyes. Being a 3D fan and reading the other reviews here which mentioned the 3D quality was fantastic, I just had to give it a try. I'm glad I did too. The 3D quality is fantastic.
I really only wanted to post here for one reason though and that was to mention a technical issue for PAL users which I came across which might be a stumbling block for some people. The DVD uses shutter glasses to alternate between different fields of a frame. On the first DVD player I tried (my main one), it only outputs the video in PAL doing a realtime conversion from NTSC to PAL. Since NTSC was 60 fields/second and PAL 50 fields/second, the 3D effect is lost totally and it becomes a normal 2D movie. It wasn't until I played it on my other player which I set explicitly to play back in either NTSC or PAL60 did the 3D kick in. The movie has a test section on the DVD and if you can only see either the left or right (I saw the left only) then that is the reason. Switch your DVD player to either NTSC or PAL60 and see 3D in perfection!!!
Spy Kids 3-D GAME OVER ROCKS!!!!.......2006-12-11
I just noticed that Carmen has dissapeared inside a game called"Game Over" and trapped within Level 4 by The Toymaker. Her 12 year old brother Juni came in to rescue her.But the coolest part is Carmen big claw(I'ts robot like and the metal is pink:It gone tons of cool pink wires and tubes) came out of the T.V! I's Mad Cool! Plus, Alexa Vega sings this video game like song is called:"Game Over" I got the lyrics! Here's how it goes:
Toymaker:Game Over. There are no rules in this game, except win at any costs.
(Guitar Intro)
Alexa:The Time has Come, once and for all. You met'your match, you will fall. This little game we play is gonna break us down, only one of us can wear the crown.I'ts not easy as you thought it be' when it's down to you versus me.
(Bridge) I play rough,I don't need to try, You like to play mean but the score never lies.
(Chorus)Game Over,Game Over,Game Over, for now
Winning the game the only rule allowed No moral up, or cheers from the crowed. When the game began you never thought you lose' but you're time is up I play to bruise Look around you find you lost you're tried you're best but you ran ou of steam
(Bridge)Iplay rough,I don't need to try,You like to play mean but the score never lies.
You're all out of wishes kiss you're dreams goodbye ends the same It's not whether you woin or lose it's(spoken)how you play the game
(Chorus)Game Over,Game Over,Game Over,for now
(Guitar Intro)(it's that all you got?)(c'mon)(uh uh)(Bring it on!)
(Chorus)Game Over,Game Over,Game Over,Game Over, for now.
Game Over
Do you like it? I hope you do.This Spy KIds 3-D Game Over Movie Rocks!
Movie O.K., 3-D Excellent!.......2006-02-25
I was never a fan of Spy Kids 3D as a movie, but the quality of the 3D (If you have HQFS) is amazing. Fantastic colors and the images do pop out quite nicely. Recomended for anyone with a High Quality Field Sequencial viewing system.
High quality 3-D, poor DVD authoring.......2005-09-28
Finally, a major studio film released in HQFS (High Quality Field Sequential)! HQFS uses electronic shutter glasses instead of inferior red-blue anaglyph. The result is an outstanding picture. The 3-D is great, combining live action and CGI for terrific depth. This is how movies should be made!
Unfortunately, the HQFS release is just plain shoddy. The anamorphic 1.85:1 film was squeezed on the disc in 4:3 full frame television format making everything look too skinny. There is no way to play it on a regular 4:3 television in letterbox format as is normally done with widescreen films. It should play fine on a new widescreen 16:9 set though.
In addition, the disc strangely includes none of the bonus features found on the 2-D and 3-D anaglyph DVD releases. Why? It would have cost no more to include them, and considering that the HQFS version retails for 50% more than the others is really hard to understand.
The producers of this disc are to be congratulated for making this movie available to the small, but growing number of home 3-D video enthusiasts, but should really have done a better job.
BRIGHT... VIVID .........AMAZING 3-D.......2005-09-23
You know the movie, what will keep you comming back is the high bitrate quality they use, the 3-d effects are so good that they look like solid objects suspended in air its that good unbelievable clarity for 3-d, 1000 times better effects than the red blue glasses dvd. I use a lcd Epson projector for my 3d display this is the only brand i have found to work with lcd shutterglasses movies with excelent clarity, looks great on crt projectors and glass televisions as well...... a must buy

The Bourne Identity
Freely adapted from Robert Ludlum's 1980 bestseller, The Bourne Identity starts fast and never slows down. The twisting plot revs up in Zurich, where amnesiac CIA assassin Jason Bourne (Matt Damon), with no memory of his name, profession, or recent activities, recruits a penniless German traveler (Run Lola Run's Franka Potente) to assist in solving the puzzle of his missing identity. While his CIA superior (Chris Cooper) dispatches assassins to kill Bourne and thus cover up his failed mission, Bourne exercises his lethal training to leave a trail of bodies from Switzerland to Paris. Director Doug Liman (Go) infuses Ludlum's intricate plotting with a maverick's eye for character detail, matching breathtaking action with the humorous, thrill-seeking chemistry of Damon and Potente. Previously made as a 1988 TV movie starring Richard Chamberlain, The Bourne Identity benefits from the sharp talent of rising stars, offering intelligent, crowd-pleasing excitement from start to finish. --Jeff Shannon
