5 out of 5 stars great freedom and great workout.......2007-05-09

I've been going to Bally for over 5 years. They have similar boot camp led by an instructor for an hour to 1.5 hour. Bally has fixed and straight schedule. And the class is usually full and crowed with 20-40 people.

Billy Blank's DVD let me do it whenever I can in my own room. I don't have to fight traffic after work to Bally anymore. The bonus is when I have to travel for work, I can bring it with me and play it on a laptop, too. Sweet!

The intensity is about the same as Bally. Billy Blank may be more focus on the Deltoid and Shoulder. He probably thinks when you see a better upper body of yourself, you will stick with the routine. So, the idea is good. Leg exercise is a bit lacking. Nevertheless, it is a very good start on cardiovascular workout. Damage on join is less then Steps or running. It is very close to swimming when you use resistance band.

Liked many other said, I don't like the bands come with it. It is worthwhile to get your own bell by a third party or get 2 dumpbells. 5-12 lb weight is about right, depending on your condition. Newbie might want to start light with 2 bottles of unopen V8. Each bottle is about 2 lb and the weight is free. After the work out, you can drink them. :) The key difference between belt and weight is that belt has progressive resistance for each motion. Weight has fixed resistance. I prefer belt and buying new belts every few months. Belt wears out; weight last very very long. Just checkout your grandpap's garage whom think he once was superman. :)

Have fun and live healthy. :)

3 out of 5 stars Not Billy's Best/Worse.......2007-04-12

I've done TaeBo on and off for 10 years back to the original tapes. So when I found this on closeout at Big Lots for under twenty bucks, I decided it would be a good investment. I love tricking my muscles by doing different things. I strength train with weights, job once or twice a week for 3 miles, and from April thru October I try and ride my cylce 30 miles a week. So I'm in pretty good shape to start, but this workout can be challenging.

You start with mission one and its a good but not killer workout. I think the entire workout is 50 minutes from startup to cool down. While you will sweat, this isn't a killer workout. I find myself doing some of the exercises in doubletime the entire time, instead of going slow thru the first two sets. I will say this workout has helped me become fore flexible and I've noticed it in my kicks and balance. Its a good workout and you can do the bonus 8 minutes for additional workout.

Mission two is a tought workout even for me. I've found out by tying knots in the bands, it made it much harder than before. I don't believe this to be a high cardio workout, and you might burn more calories in the first mission. Still it is a challenging 40 minutes with an additional 8 minutes as well. On days where i've done nothing, I actually do both mission 1 and 2 together for a killer killer workout!

Disc 3 is an ab blaster and its has really firmed me up. Even when I eat foods that bloat me, I can see and feel a big difference. I've really enjoyed how Billy targets the abs.

Overall I give this series a 3.5. I would have liked to seen a killer 50 to 60 minute workout, but thats not the case. I've recently ordered the TB2 Ripped series from Amazon, that according to reviews is the toughest hardest workout Billy has. One of the workouts is over 60 minutes and I hope this is what I'm looking for. The production value on disk two is let me say horrible. Billy is all over the play and fumbles over his words and his power bands. Time after time we get to see the lovely Shelli while Billy is trying to adjust his bands. They will be counting 6, 7, 8, and Billy will yell one more time on like count 6. So when they get to 8 and start over, Billy says great job while they are on like count 2 or 3 of the new set. I found this amuzing and annoying at the same time.

Overally I like this series, but its not Billy's best. It could have been better.

2 out of 5 stars My my my.......2007-02-21

Well, I'm not a bootcamp fan. For those looking for a good CARDIO workout, this certainly is not. It's not well managed, the bands can be extremely painful (think ripping out hair by the roots!), and the heart rate will not go up. The arm work burns the shoulders, but the pressure is too light to do any of the other muscles any serious good.

If I had it to do over again I would not buy this set, and I will NEVER do the ab video again. I stopped midway b/c the bands were so painful.

3 out of 5 stars Hard.......2007-01-22

Wow, this is hard. I thought I was in decent shape, but the beginners video nearly did me in. There probably should be better notices that this is for fit people. Though I've only done it a couple of times so far.

Also, he uses my worst pet peeve in exercise videos - he says one more time when he really means three more times. I hate that.

3 out of 5 stars slightly disappointed.......2007-01-16

I have been a Taebo user for at least 8 years. I love Billy Blanks and find his workouts to be the best for me. This set I was a little disappointed with. The new red bands I find to be uncomfortable and noisy. I use the black bands that came with the other bootcamp set instead even though the black bands are not weighted. I also found this Elite bootcamp to be slow and more of a beginner workout. I don't feel it is challenging enough, at least for me.

3 out of 5 stars It didnt suprise me.......2007-06-19

I was afraid to watch this one for a long time considering what i heard of it. The plot is simple, some writer lady goes to the country and ends up being raped and assaulted by 4 ignorant backwoods types then one when one of them dosent go through with the job of 'taking care of her' she comes back for revenge. It was sick, yes, It was you can say brutal in a way, but i can see something like this happening. I mean it didnt shock me considering ive actually met people like this that were maybe a couple inches away from doin something like that. Theres 2 types of people, normal good people and people that are a couple inches away from doing something sick like this. A bunch of guys gettin together, real ignorant types and then pullin something like this, yea, i can see it. The stupidity of one of them made me sick. He was like just doing whatever he was told. Then came 'the revenge'. Plain and simple, not much else. I cant say i could see someone really 'enjoying' watching this but i cant say it was so bad i wouldnt tell you not to see it. I dont think a normal person would have much interest in this one. People who love horror? maybe. Its a hit or miss.

4 out of 5 stars Classic Nastie!.......2007-05-02

"Spit" is one of my all time favourite little "nasties".
It's sick alright and still very disturbing, even though it was made way back in 1978. Ok, it's low, low budget, but that's why it works.
The film's lack of music throughout makes it all the more off putting.
Camille Keaton, as the victim, is an absolute trouper.
Rodney, is Gold.

This Millennium Edition of "Spit" is something my brother and I used to joke about. Ever since we first caught "Spit" at the Drive In on it's original release, the idea of a special edition of "Spit" was something we only ever dreamt of one day owning.
To have it like this, THX Certified Transfer, Dolby Digital/DTS 5.1, looking and sounding like it was made yesterday, with extras laid on, you've got to be kidding.
And that cover ain't half bad either....hey?

Warning:Definately not for the kiddies.

4 out of 5 stars NOT AS BAD AS WHAT EVERYONE SAYS !!!!!.......2007-03-30

I bought this movie because I was intrigued by it. The cinematography is incredible. Visually, it is stunning. The rape scenes ARE savage, but I was touched by the emotional devastation the actress was able to convey. As a woman I was rooting for the heroine and I must admit I was a little disappointed in the ease with which she dispatched three of her assailants. Her revenge on Matthew was "OK" but I would have liked to have seen a little blood and gore. When I first saw the bathtub scene between the heroine and Johnny I was a little nauseated by all the blood but I couldn't help but laugh at the way she dispatched him. I watched the movie again and I thought it would have been even more visually effective if after the slice and dice she would have raised her hand from out of the bath water holding a semblance of bloody genitalia in her hand. But this movie was made in a decade that never would have allowed that. The heroine's numb composure throughout the revenge sequences is fully understandable (that is, if you're a woman). Kudos to Ms. Keaton for a very persuasive acting job.

1 out of 5 stars Horrible.......2007-03-14

Maybe the WORST movie ever made, or at least the worst that I have seen. Don't waste you're money or time.

5 out of 5 stars one of the best.......2007-02-26

This movie is great. Artistic in a sick way. Sort of has a feminist flavor too it, but in a cool way. Definently a morality message underneath. also, Theres a classic scene that will traumatize any man who watches this film.

Was author Whitley Strieber telling the truth about extraterrestrial visitations in his bestselling book, Communion? Perhaps no one can really prove or disprove it, making the enigma of Strieber himself more interesting than his allegations. That's precisely the angle taken by this film adaptation, in which Christopher Walken's richly eccentric performance becomes a fascinating portrait of something more important than rumors of alien abduction--that is, human resistance and surrender to transformation. The script does an end run around the deductive process and research Strieber employed in his book to substantiate his claims. Instead, the story concentrates on the impact of those experiences on Strieber's own psyche: the disbelief, the repressed memories, the mounting helplessness and futility as the years go by.

Walken makes it all terribly compelling, from his childlike compliance to the diminutive aliens who turn up in his home at night to an unexpected story climax in which Strieber demystifies the little buggers on his own surprisingly comic terms. The supporting cast is terrific, including Lindsay Crouse as Strieber's concerned wife, Frances Sternhagen as a doctor, and Joel Carlson as Strieber's son. This is not an offering that panders to today's alleged abductees, but rather a study of a sole survivor who finds his peace on his own terms. --Tom Keogh

Description

Based on the best-selling novel by Whitley Strieber, "Communion" features what is considered by many to be Christopher Walken's finest performance to date. "Communion" depicts the personal and professional crises a writer experiences after a series of encounters with non-human beings. This film is arguably the most intelligent film about the alien abduction/visitor phenomenon. Unlike countless made-for-TV films, where the emphasis is on the sensationalistic, "shocking" aspects of the subject, "Communion" focuses on the psychological and emotional harm the experience does. We see Strieber (Walken) describe his experiences to his medical doctor, and then to a psychiatrist. Once his own mental health has been established, then (and only then) does he begin to consider the possibility that the creatures he has seen are actually real. Did Streiber actually experience these abductions. You be the judge.

4 out of 5 stars HEY,CHRISTOPHER WALKEN'S IN IT..........2007-01-31

Based on the book of the same name, stars Christopher Walken
portraying the author, and his ordeals recalling his encounters
with Beings from another universe. As always this story is very
controversial,if viewed by those who Don't see 'em, Don't Beleive
'em. Still worth adding to the collection (if only for Chris!).

2 out of 5 stars I'm waiting for a sequel called "Confirmation".......2006-12-11

Ok alien abduction flick. I always like Chris Walken no matter what movie he's in. Maybe if this was made more recently we would have gotten more specifics. You're not sure if something happened or not, but maybe that's what abduction is. Why are the aliens always so ugly, aren't there any planets with good looking aliens? And their not very sanitary, that spaceship looked dirty and so did the probe thing that came out of the wall, do they clean their instruments before they shove them in us? They don't look very healthy, or very clean. Oh well, Enjoy!

3 out of 5 stars Not Very Coherent, But Very Unsettling.......2006-09-08

Is Strieber insane. Or is he making this crazy account up to sell books and inspire films? I'll have to say yes to the latter. However, don't let that dissuade you from a creepy film like Communion. Although, the plot is VERY disjointed there are very distubing scenes. Have you ever felt like an alien creature was creeping into your bedroom as you slept? Well, you will after seeing a scene that depicts exactly that. Memorably disturbing scenes of this nature give this otherwise uninteresting film a decent shelf life.

3 out of 5 stars Not all that convincing.......2006-05-30

Even though I read 30-odd pages of Communion before coming to the conclusion that it was just a little to far-fetched, I thought I'd see what the movie had to offer. Well, to be quite honest, it did nothing to convince me that my initial conclusion from the book is unjustified. Are we seriously supposed to believe that aliens who apparently have the ability to visit our planet from great distances have such impracticle body structures, and that they've come all this way simply to[...] probe Earthlings? I'm by no means a sceptic when it comes to this topic, and am willing to give anyone the benefit of the doubt so long as their story isn't completely absurd--which is the case with Communion.

The DVD contains a very short clip of the surgical removal of a supposed alien implant from some guy's arm. This may sound sensational, but it most certainly is not. Not surprsingly, we are not allowed a close-in look at this "alien implant" and, no less surprising, the clip ends with a statement to the effect that the nature of the "device" has yet to be determined. And I'm sure that it has since been "mysteriously" lost so we'll never know what it was. Isn't that just always the case?

4 out of 5 stars Altogether an enjoyable movie.......2006-04-24

All in all, I have to say that I enjoy this movie very much. I first saw it when I was very young (right after it came out) and it got to me just as much then as it does now.

I will admit however that to a person who isn't into the UFO phenomena it might not make a lot of sense. Being very big into the paranormal myself (practically my whole life), I will say that it even took me a while to fully understand what was going on in this movie. Ultimately however at the end there isn't much that can or can't be proven as no one can really claim to know the full truth (at least that I know of :)).

Altogether I give this a 4 out of 5 stars. If you're into the UFO phenomenon, you'll probably enjoy it. If you're not, it's still a fun movie to sit down to on a friday night with some popcorn and have a few thrills.

Amazon.com essential video

We can hardly imagine how shocking this film was when it first broke into the film scene in 1968. There's never been anything quite like it again, though there have been numerous pale imitations. Part of the terror lies in the fact that it is shot in such a raw and unadorned fashion that it feels like a home movie, and is all the more authentic because of that. It draws us into its world gradually, content to establish a merely spooky atmosphere before leading us through a horrifically logical progression that we hardly could have anticipated. The story is simple: Radiation from a fallen satellite has caused the dead to walk, and hunger for human flesh. Once bitten, you become one of them. And the only way to kill one is by a shot or blow to the head. We follow a group holed up in a small farmhouse who are trying to fend off the inevitable onslaught of the dead. The tension between the members of this unstable, makeshift community drives the film. Night of the Living Dead establishes savagery as a necessary condition of life. Marked by fatality and a grim humor, the film gnaws through to the bone, then proceeds on to the marrow. --Jim Gay

Amazon.com essential video

George Romero's classic 1968 zombie-fest (shot in black and white) offers some disturbing images, even decades later. In a Pittsburgh suburb people are being stalked by zombies ravenous for human flesh. In a house whose occupant has already been slain, two separate groups of people unite and board themselves in, hoping to fend off the advancing ghouls. Through radio and TV reports they learn that radiation from outer space is thought to be responsible for the wave of zombie attacks all over the eastern United States. Once the humans are trapped, Romero shifts the focus to the internal feuding between them as they decide how to handle their dreadful situation. What unfolds is an examination of human nature, and of the fear and selfishness that keep many citizens from getting involved in the world's problems. Appropriately, both the zombies and the authorities who later hunt them are equally soulless. This film could also be read as a criticism of white males--it is not merely a coincidence that the film's two most rational, constructive characters are a woman and a black man. It is also no coincidence that the sequel takes place in a mall infested by the undead--a perfect analogy for consumer culture. --Bryan Reeseman

5 out of 5 stars Night of the Living Dead.......2007-07-02

he first and best of George Romero's zombie series, a horror classic made on a low five figure budget way back in 1968. Some of the acting is less than stellar, but this hardly affects the tightening knot in your stomach. More restrained than later outings, the zombies are less turbo-charged, which only increases the prevailing sense of dread. Film builds to a nifty surprise finish. Consistently creepy, punctuated by moments of unbridled terror. Be warned!

5 out of 5 stars The original , The classic.......2007-06-27

The original version , the classic, un-censored.
Pretty restored with a new transfer and audio remix in 5.1.

this is not the 30's anniversay edition.

Great.

5 out of 5 stars Zombie Pioneer.......2007-06-10

Ironically, I decided on seeing "Night of the Living Dead" after reading The Undead and Philosophy: Chicken Soup for the Soulless (Popular Culture and Philosophy), (I am sure the authors did not have that response in mind). Anyway, after much reference to Romero's movies, I decided I had had a deprived existence for not having seen them.

Shot in black and white, Romero casts a dark and dank mood over the movie, making it all the more creepy. With the addition of some serious gore, (for 1968, that is), and some excellent photography, the movie starts the tension early and keeps it going right to the end. While the explanations for the zombie phenomenon are never really fleshed out, (no pun intended), the radiation from a space probe seems to be the one offered. The main characters are holed up in an isolated farm house, and each has distinctly different responses to their situation. Ironically, the very thing they fear seems to come to pass.

Some of the sound effects seem decidedly "cheesy", such as the "blood" dripping from the stairs onto the floor. However, this is more than compensated for by the overall tension and darkness of the movie. This would have to be one of the creepiest movies I have seen.

I have not seen later editions, so this review refers to the original 1968 release. It is an excellent movie that spawned a whole sub-genre of horror movies. It is simply a masterpiece.

5 out of 5 stars Almost every zombie film uses some unholy marriage between repulsion and humor. This one simply uses good old fashioned horror.......2007-06-08

The Colorized DVD of Night of the Living Dead is something to treasure (and is required viewing every Halloween). The thing that I really liked about it was that it also contains the black and white version if color is not your taste. It also contains audio commentary and trailers. The first thing we see before you press "play movie" is an eerie image of Barbara's face and a full moon with creepy music which sets the mood perfectly.

Being chased and cornered by undead humans who want to eat warm flesh had never been envisioned before this movie was envisioned. While many good zombie movies have been made since its release, none has surpassed Night of the Living Dead's eerie atmosphere. Virtually all zombie films try to make some unholy marriage between horror, comedy, and gore (like Dead Alive and Return of the Living Dead). Some even try to throw romance into the mix. Night of the Living Dead, with its simplistic nature, just goes for scary and, because of that, it's still the best zombie movie ever made. Roger Ebert, in his review of this movie, said that it was so scary when it was released that children were crying in the audience he was in. And it's effective even today (especially the last 10-15 minutes).

Indulge yourself and get the zombie flick that started it all.

5 out of 5 stars The only version of "Night..." that you should own... DO NOT BUY THE 30TH ANNIVERSARY ED.!!.......2007-05-17

I am a purist and like the grainy quality of this movie on the video taped version that I have. However, if you are going to buy a version of night for the DVD era, this is the MUST BUY edition.

Before I continue, let me say DO NOT BUY THE 30TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION! It is only interesting in its novelty, but is a disgraceful re-writing of the original masterpiece.

Make no mistake, "Night of the Living Dead" is a masterpiece, a brilliant selection of moments, camera angles, and black and white horror that still resonates to this day. The protagonist is strong, and the antagonist is a perfect foil.

The ending is the greatest movie ending I have ever seen in my 31 years. It shocked me to the core. "Seven" is a distant second when it comes to rattling endings.

The extras are fantastic, with many of the original cast members coming to provide commentary. It is excellent.

No one can call themselves a fan of the zombie genre without owning or at least watching this movie.

If you want, you can buy light weights and use those. Take it step by step and in no time will you be able to complete this dvd and you'll start seeing changes in your body within a few weeks. This isn't one of those intense workouts you used to see on the infomercials in the late 90s, this is for beginners.

5 out of 5 stars Cheesy cover!.......2007-02-07

This is a good old-fashioned movie that is similar to the first. If you liked that, you will enjoy this as well. If you don't like dated movies, you will think this is silly. I wish I lived near Boggy Creek.......

1 out of 5 stars peee uuuu.......2006-12-30

this is nothing but a old fart telling the story of the first movie. DVD makes a good coaster.

4 out of 5 stars A noteable and worthy entry into Cinema Du Sasquatch! .......2006-01-17

This movie is alot of fun. It's Bigfoot down south again scaring cute girls with their 1980's apparel on and basically just being a cool monster. In many ways this is superior to "Legend of Boggy Creek". It's better directed and has characters that are interesting. Also, the scene a night with the sonar blips is actually kind of scary. It's not as bad as alot of viewers say.
Check it out.

3 out of 5 stars Driving down the road, lookin' for a waffle house, drinkin' lots of wild turkey.......2005-10-03

If you're a bigfoot movie fan, this is a must-see; but you may want to check out the version on the DVD set 'Mystery Science Theater 3000 Collection - Volume 5', who summarizes the movie as "When you major in boggy creek studies, you can pretty much write your own ticket".

2 out of 5 stars Boggy Creek 2, or Put a Shirt on that Boy!.......2005-09-24

You can't blame Charles Pierce for wanting to go back to that Boggy Creek well again after the first movie, but this time he pulls up a bucket full of fetid water. This movie is all sorts of wrong! From casting himself in the role of "Doc" to putting his own son in a large supporting role, sans shirt for a majority of the running time, Pierce misfires on almost every level. The flashback stories almost brought back the flavor of the original Boggy Creek (the outhouse scene alone is a hoot), but then he offsets that with the hilarious "mad dog!" scene. By the time Old Man Crenshaw shows up, the wheels totally fly off this shaky cart and promptly bursts into flames! Being a bigfoot sub-genre fanatic, I feel justified buying this title, but do not see spinning the DVD as often as the far superior The Legend of Boggy Creek. Where's Travis Crabtree when you really need him?!

1 out of 5 stars Utter rubbish - do NOT waste your money! (013).......2007-03-05

They should be sued for saying it is a colour production, it is not. The only colour is on the cover, along with the photos that have nothing to do with the Waffen-SS. I could go on and on about the errors but why waste my time and yours? Whatever you do, don't waste your hard or otherwise earned money on this rubbish. Honestly, after over 60 years since the end of the war, and we still get stuff like this. I couldn't even sell it after I'd watched it, I ended up giving it away.

A disgrace!

5 out of 5 stars About time..........2007-01-30

Despite any errors on the cover of this DVD I enjoyed it greatly. It has been a long time comming that these very brave and loyal soldiers were explored on film.

1 out of 5 stars This looks like a winner ( sic )........2006-08-23

All I had to do was take a look at the jacket to formulate an opinion.
Two of the photo's are from WWI ( both widely familiar ), left to right, an infantry advance in Flanders, circa 1917, and the remains of a German skeletal corpse in the aftermath of Verdun 1916. The third photo is of a torch-light victory extravaganza, that were commonly held throughout 1933.
This is how the producers of this junk present their " product."
But inside, in 60 minutes, they are going to broaden your horizon on the subject of the Waffen SS. Sure!
Avoid this kind of throw-away. If the conjurers' of this stuff can't even locate a real Waffen SS action photo for their cover ( which afterall is the beginning of attracting your money ),do you trust them to say something expanding inside?

3 out of 5 stars No Subtitle.......2006-07-11

The product is ok but I wish it had subtitles and/or the option of languages other than english.

1 out of 5 stars Typical Errors.......2006-04-28

Like so many things produced and published about the Third Reich, there is an all too familiar error here. It's in the AMAZON product description.
The WAFFEN SS were NOT (!!!!) the "black clad" men. That was the ALGEMEINE SS. The WAFFEN SS were the actual MILITARY branch of the SS and were (still are) recognized and some of the best trained and fighting soldiers in military history. The "black clad" ALEGEMEINE is what made up the infamous GESTAPO, Hitler's personal bodyguard, the SD and most of the internal SS force in Germany and the occupied territories. The regular army panzer troops wore the black uniforms, but they were NOT part of the SS. The WAFFEN SS wore the field gray and camouflaged uniforms. Yes, they were brutal, and some were part of some "questionable" activities in the war. But, they were NOT what most people think of the SS, which is the GESTAPO. This error is about as common as authors, directors, etc. calling the GERMAN army, the NAZI army or calling the LUFTWAFFE the NAZI air force. MOST German soldiers were NOT NAZIs. Yes, their GOVERNMENT leaders, for the most part, were NAZIs, but NOT the soldiers. I've even seen some people say, NAZI tanks!! I was not aware that a Tiger tank could belong to a political party!
If AMAZON cannot get this correct in their description, what is the point of watching something like this?
Do your research. DO NOT believe everything that is produced, ESPECIALLY by US writers or directors. Remember, the winners write the history. English and French produced material is more accurate and more evenly presented.
I find that ironic as THEY were the ones being bombed and invaded. NOT the US!!!

    Description

Ever since World War II, Rangers have been the knockout force of the U.S. Army. They lead the way into battle, attacking with lightning speed to stagger the opposition's most heavily fortified positions, or heading behind enemy lines on daring raids. To find the men with the fortitude to survive the intense brand of combat practiced by the Rangers, a torture test has been constructed to try soldiers under stress that nears that of battle. The 61-day ordeal known as Ranger School tests a man's ability to stay on his feet and endure the most challenging conditions and climate imaginable. ARMY RANGER SCHOOL is an unprecedented, all-access look at the two months of hell endured by the volunteers who aspire to be Rangers. The cameras were rolling throughout the grueling process as the 207 members of Class 10-00 plunged from planes, braved raging rivers and rappelled down precipitous cliffs, often on the edge of mental and physical collapse.27 men have been killed trying to make it through Ranger School. Watching this, you'll know why.

4 out of 5 stars Phantom Of The Dreamland Theatre..........2007-06-27

A group of film students decide to host a horror-movie fiesta at a local abandoned theatre called the Dreamland. Their hope is to raise money for their projects by showing the movies complete w/ the orchestrated gimmicks that made them famous (such as a giant mosquito on a wire over the audience, electrically charged seats, etc.). The movies themselves are excellent parodies of 50s / 60s sci-fi schlockers not unlike many in my own collection! All seems fine, until a mysterious killer begins knocking off students one by one, using the very gimmicks to cause the deaths! You see, a cult leader murdered his wife on the theatre's stage 15 years earlier, filming it for posterity. Now, it appears that he's back, using unique methods to enact his vengeance! POPCORN is as funny as it is scary and mysterious. Jill Schoelen (Stepfather, Chiller) is good as Maggie, Dee Wallace-Stone (Cujo, The Howling) is her mum, and Ray Walston gets a decent little cameo! Also watch for Malcolm Danare (Christine) and Freddie Simpson (The People Under The Stairs) as students! Watch this one as a double feature w/ DEMONS and you'll never want to go to a theatre again!...

5 out of 5 stars A hidden gem for horror movies.......2007-04-05

This was a great addition to my horror collection. I loved this movie because of the idea of a group of college students creating a "horror flick" of their own trying to raise money. I really liked the ideas that they used with old movies as "shock effects" for the audience to have a totally new presentation of the "old favorites". This was a very good thriller and it was also suspenseful to watch. I recommend this movie to all horror movie collectors and watchers. It is truely a hidden gem in the horror genre.

3 out of 5 stars Fun movie marred by an awful dvd presentation.......2007-01-17

I'm a fan of Alan Ormsby (Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things) and was excited to see this film which he wrote the screenplay for (under the name Tod Hackett.) It's an enjoyable film, with a fondness for the good old days of crazy B movies and William Castle-esque promotional gimmicks. It's a shame though that this disc from Elite is a horrible pan and scan version. The picture quality has all the clarity of an ex-rental vhs tape. This presentation is on par with the terrible job Artisan did on Fright Night Part 2. It would be nice if Anchor Bay or Blue Underground picked up Popcorn and came out with a remastered widescreeen dvd, but until then, this will have to do.

    4 out of 5 stars Popcorn.......2007-01-15

Cult Horror movie, not to bad not full a lot of blood and gore. May be boring for someone who wants that kind of movie. I bought this as a gift.

    3 out of 5 stars Decent.......2006-06-29

This is a pretty entertaining film (though probably not always for the reasons the creators had in mind), especially for fans of 80's and early 90's slasher-type films. The plot is fairly simple: a group of film students put on a "Horror, Sci-Fi, and Supernatural" film festival in an old theater to gain recognition and raise funds, and during the evening they are killed off one by one. It manages to keep the killer and motive a secret, while tricking viewers into thinking they know who it is right away. The actors are also notable horror b-listers. It features Jill Schoelen (The Stepfather, Curse II), Dee Wallace-Stone (The Howling, The Hills Have Eyes), and Kelly Jo Minter (The Lost Boys, A Nightmare on Elm St. V, The People Under The Stairs) to name a few. The films biggest problems are a few corny moments, and the killers motives aren't very strong for killing certain people he shouldn't have a grudge against.
If you're into movies like this, and have 9 bucks to blow give it a shot!

3 out of 5 stars Must Like Combat Moves.......2007-05-03

I was a little disappointed with this workout. A lot of it was built around what I think must be hand-to-hand combat moves. I was really looking for more of a straight-forward cardio workout (ie: jumping jacks, lunges, squats, etc.). Gilad is as usual a great teacher, but I prefer his other workouts a lot more.
