Bob Hope is up to his classic shenanigans in Fancy Pants, a loose remake of the comedy favorite Ruggles of Red Gap. Hope plays Humphrey, an American actor playing a British butler in a hokey play in London. When a fortune-hunter hires the cast to help him woo a wealthy American girl (Lucille Ball, playing her character like a female John Wayne), the girl's domineering mother takes a shine to Humphrey and hires him to be their butler back in New Mexico. But when they arrive out West, the townsfolk believe that Humphrey is British nobility, and even Teddy Roosevelt drops by for a visit. Despite their different comic styles, Hope and Ball have an oddball chemistry together; throw in some musical numbers, physical slapstick, and a shaggy dachshund, and the results will please any Hope fan. (There are, however, some unfortunate racial stereotypes.) --Bret Fetzer

HEY, FANCY PANTS!!.......2007-04-23
This movie was absolutely hilarious from beginning to end. I thought the storyline could have been stronger, but still laughed like crazy at Lucy's antics, as usual. :)
Fancy Pants 1950.......2006-04-20
Bob Hope (1903-2003) and Lucille Ball (1911-1989) join forces in a remake of Ruggles of read Gap and let loose a stampade of Laughs . Wisecracking Bob is a teddibly, teddibly British valet brought to the Old West to teach Old World charm to a certain readheded tomboy . Of course , Bobs not realy a valet . Hes an out-of work actor whos stumbled across the role of his life. Its tea at 4:00 p.m and dont fan your soup with your hat , but will proper etiquette protect Bob from Lucys jilted beau ! . A truly hilaourious funny movie with much laughs . Transfer in H-D Quality . Recommended
Hope & Ball reunite in an all out comedy.......2006-02-26
Fancy Pants reunites the stars of the hit Sorrowful Jones but this time in living color. This would be a full five years before Lucy would become a television icon.
Bob Hope plays a hapless actor, Arthur Tyler who is hired to play a butler to impress a neuvo riche American girl, Agatha Floud (Lucille Ball) and her mother Effie by an impoverish British Earl.
The Earl doesn't get the girl but Effie gets the butler. Effie wants to flaunt her new found culture in the culture wasteland known as Big Squaw, New Mexico. All arrive home and a misunderstanding happens when Agatha's father think that Humphrey, the Butler is the Earl of Brimstead.
Arthur takes to his new role with flare. Maybe a little too much flare. This makes Agatha's "beau" jealous. To add to the plot twists, President Teddy Roosevelt finds out about the Earl's visit and comes to meet him. This leads to an all out over the top finish.
Bob Hope had pretty well perfected his screen persona by this film but Lucy was still years from creating hers. This film was a bridge from what MGM tried to make her and what I Love Lucy would make her. Hope and Ball made a great comic team and this is one of the most outlandish collaboration.
This is just a plain sit down and laugh out loud comedy. Enjoy!

HOPE & LUCY= WACKY WESTERN SPOOF...........2004-05-31
A remake with songs of "Ruggles of Red Gap", "Mr.Robert Hope" plays an English Valet going to work for Lucille Ball's nouveau riche family in the Wild West. For fans of Hope and Lucy, this is a delight. They're in top form in "Fancy Pants"...the name given Hope by tomboy Lucy. Good supporting cast helps enliven this spoof, but it's Hope and Lucy who really pull it off. They're a great team. Lucy sings "Fancy Pants" and there are other songs and lots of slapstick and beautiful Technicolor filming that helps explain why Lucy was once known in Hollywood as "Tessie Technicolor". She's gorgeous here. "Fancy Pants" is good, clean, fun family fare and, sadly, another example of the kind of film "they just don't make anymore". And yes, you can see Lucy Ricardo emerging in this film. For historical value alone "Fancy Pants" is worth watching and owning.
Watch out world Here she comes!.......2004-03-20
This was a very funny and pleasant movie! Watch closely and you will see the emergence of Lucy Ricardo ..not a surprise as this was the last movie our beloved Lucy made before hitting the television airways as the beloved Mrs Ricardo..with her good pal and co star Mr Bob Hope this movie is a winner all the way around...Comic genius from two of the businesses best entertainers/comedians..Thoroughly enjoyable entertainment for the whole family!

Description
Filmed against the exquisite vistas of the Welsh countryside, Gwen Davies (Sian Maclean) is a sixteen year-old orphan girl who lives on her grandfather's beautiful farm. Her happy life is suddenly shattered when her beloved grandfather is thrown from a horse and killed. Gwen must confront the loss of her family's farm and her beloved horse, the great stallion Mabon, in an absorbing story of love and hope.
Customer Reviews:
offbeat horse flick.......2004-12-29
An orphaned 16-year-old Welsh girl, Gwen (Sian MacLean) again has to deal with the loss that death brings when her grandfather passes away after being thrown in a riding accident. She's left to handle the family farm and all the horses on it until her uncle (Daniel J. Travanti) enters the picture, wanting to sell the property to a greedy land developer. One possible way to keep the farm is for Gwen to enter her beloved black stallion Mabon (named for a Pagan holiday) in the Christmas Costume Race. The climatic scene showing Gwen as an angel riding against Father Christmas and an elf, among others, is certainly one of the more unique racing scenes in the movies - think of it as the Doo-Dah Parade on horseback.

This movie was TERRIBLE!!!.......2003-12-30
I have just finished viewing this video, and I think it was absolutly HORRIBLE! It may be good if you are in it for holiday spirit, but if you like horses, I'd dare not get near to buying this movie! In a very important race, Malbon is in from with another horse, batteling head to head. The other is much swifter, probably a Thoroughbred, with a tiny little carrige in back. Malbon on the other hand is a huge Fresian, with a gigantic carrige. At many scenes in this race, the rival's rider pulls back so Malbon can get ahead. Totally unrealistic horse wise, would not recomend it to any true horseman!
A Wonderful Christmas Story of Love and Hope!!.......2002-08-01
Previously released as the "Christmas Stallion",Gwen Davies(Sian MacLean),a 16 year old orphan, has lived a lifetime on her Grandfather's farm in Wales. Her love for him and the magnificent horses they raise is her entire life. She is devastated by her Grandfather's death-to lose him and possibly sell the farm.Under her Grandfather's Will her Uncle Alan(Daniel J. Travanti) from America who has been away for 20 years assumes responsibility. It's clear to Gwen that Alan will sell the Farm to Christopher Howard,a greedy property developer who will go to extreme lengths to buy it.She takes refuge in her work with her Magnificent Stallion that was her Grandfather's future hopes and the sole love in young Gwen's life. Will Gwen be able to keep the Farm and the Horses?Alan's decisision is not only crucial for Gwen but would also help him come to terms with his tragic past which makes this a Wonderful Christmas Story of Love and Hope!!
For Horse Lovers and Welsh-philes (Is that a word?).......2000-09-26
Predictable story enlivened by moody Welsh scenery, depictions of village life at Christmastime, and appealing cast. Horse lovers may wish the equine players figured more prominently in the story, and in less pedestrian ways, but still a nice addition to the video library.

YUP! DEFINITELY A CLEAN MOVIE.......2005-06-08
Sometimes teens are too smart-alecky [or arrogant] to appreciate a movie that teaches right from wrong.
J. T. Hope is an ex-cop and Marine who wants to make a difference in the lives of juvenile delinquents.
He is trying to get his ranch qualified for these juvys, so wouldn't you know, the red tape brass hands him what she considers 3 tough punks who will probably make him fail. She gives him only two weeks to show improvement in these 3 boys attitudes.
Needless to say the boys are out of their environment and have a rough time relating to horses and cattle. Boy, did they have a lot to learn.
Lorenzo Lamas - is a young man that Hope rehabilitated and he returned to the ranch to help. Neat tough guy!
Barry Corbin, as the old duffer used a bit of humor in teaching these tough guys the facts of life in getting along with each other.
And of couse, the one kid has a problem with his crack-head brother [whose only friends seems to be the snake].
Loved the way the boys learned to ride a horse and work the cattle.
Then we have the lady [Gail O'Grady] whose job it is to report any problems Hope has with the boys. Brass wants a failing report. Of course, they [her and her adopted daughter] gets tangled up with the druggies and we have a big rescue scene.
Altogether a great movie for the family to watch.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED - great addition to the DVD shelf.
Cute, but trite........2004-05-31
As a sixteen year old girl, it can be difficult to find movies to watch with my parents. This one certainly qualified for that--it was moderately funny, had hardly any language, no "bedroom scenes" as my mother calls them, and ended happily. What violence there was revolved mostly around teenage boys acting tough. The basic premise--delinquent boys taken from civilization to learn how to shape up on a cattle ranch--was appealing enough. Practically everything that happened in the movie was a cliche, though. I knew how the movie would end before the opening credits were up. Still, it's something inoffensive to watch with the folks.
For the Family.......2004-05-18
Movie you can watch with your family. Stresses the alternative when wrong choices are made. Great movie for pre-teens and teens alike.
Hope Ranch Review.......2004-03-12
One of the better family type films I've ever seen. Bruce Boxleitner and Lorenzo Lamas take three out of control teens from the city and teach them country values. Although I would have loved to see this movie turn into a series I think it's a definite must see.
