In this raucous, high-energy action thriller from 1991, Michael J. Fox plays a spoiled Hollywood movie star who wants to bring vivid authenticity to his latest role as a big-city cop, so he recruits the real thing (James Woods) as his experienced mentor. This unlikely partnership doesn't sit too well with Woods, a hot-headed New York street cop who's a magnet for action-packed trouble. But that makes him just the right guy for Fox's research, which goes so far as to include Woods's girlfriend (Annabella Sciorra) and participation in some death-defying crime work. Fast, vulgar, and cranked at high volume, this is the kind of movie that contributed to the destruction of quality storytelling in mainstream Hollywood movies, but the screenplay scores bonus points for its lively characters and even livelier dialogue. Director John Badham is no slouch when it comes to action scenes, either, so if you buckle up and hold on tight, doing things The Hard Way can be surprisingly entertaining. To display the action in full widescreen glory, the DVD presents the film in its original 2.35:1 aspect ratio. --Jeff Shannon

This is not the original classic but what looks like a tribute to the actors from the film.
You get a Jim Kelly,Fred Williamson and Jim Brown film PLUS a super martial arts flick Mafia vs. Ninja with the guy from Shaolin Dolemite.
A good budget pack with rare blaxploitation films.

Which came first? This or Cops?.......2007-06-04
Michael J. Fox is Nick Lang. Nick is an accomplished actor. His latest gig was playing for the Shooting Gunn series. Shooting Gunn is a clone of Indiana Jones. Nick wants to do something else. By happenstance, he sees an interview of a NYC cop and decides to pull his fame strings to "observe" for his upcoming film.
Meanwhile, Det. John Moss is not happy having to "babysit" Nick. Moss makes it clear that Nick is to hang back and observe. But most of all, just shut up. Nick doesn't get it and repeatedly gets involved and messes up Moss' strategies.
At the same time, the Party Chaser has been terrorizing the city. Officially, Moss is off the case but that doesn't stop him. However, he gotta keep Nick at a distance before he does further damages.
It's just a little too silly, especially with Fox as a neurotic, spoiled actor who doesn't know his social (and professional?) limits.
Heh heh, funny movie, lots of cursing going on........2007-01-07
It's like having Ronald McDonald date the Wendys girl.
I'm about to crash another party!.......2006-10-30
Nick Lang, (Michael J. Fox) is John Moss's greatest fan. Moss (James Woods) is a tough NYC cop trying to a job that has become very personal to him. He is however NOT a fan of Nick Lang, Hollywood star who manages to get himself assigned as Moss' honorary partner while researching for a role in an upcoming film. The two do not get along well. Lang wants to spend every waking moment in Moss' presence to learn to be exactly like him. This is not the usual kind of hero worship that one might find flattering. A very well written comedy/drama with some nice visual effects and a lot of adventure. Both Fox and Woods do an awesome job portraying their colorful characters. This is probably one of James Woods finest roles in my opinion. A lot of nice cinematography and a very enjoyable movie to watch. I highly recommend it, especially if you are a fan of Fox or Woods. Not the best action film you will ever see, but a nice chance of pace. Original plot.
the easy way to see michael j fox.......2006-08-21
shot on location this film gives a great veiw of the big apple, location shots are good as you can see the crowd (real people)looking on and for spotting landmarks when you visit the city. not many extras, out takes would be great and more actor interviews would be good.
Much more entertaining than I expected.......2006-02-19
It's not one of the more prominent feathers in Michael J. Fox's cap, but The Hard Way is a perfectly entertaining film with plenty of action and more than a few laughs. The plot certainly doesn't break any new ground, there aren't any real surprises along the way, and the ending definitely qualifies as over-the-top, but the whole thing works pretty darn well - thanks largely to the performances of Fox and James Woods.
Michael J. Fox plays box-office sensation Nick Lang, star of The Smoking Gunn movies; he has it all, but he wants more. He's tired of playing Indiana Jones clones and yearns for a more serious role - such as the part of tough cop Ray Casanov in an upcoming film. He wants it so badly that, after seeing a television interview with Detective Lt. John Moss (James Woods) of NYPD, he uses his star power clout to get himself riding shotgun with Moss for two weeks in order to prepare himself for the audition. Moss, as you might imagine, is none too happy about having to baby-sit a movie star he doesn't even like - especially since it takes him off a big case. The Party Crasher (Stephen Lang) has been killing indiscriminately, and the whole case has become personal for Moss. The guy calls in his crimes before he commits them, and he's been eyeball to eyeball with Moss, yet he keeps getting away. Moss is determined to get rid of his new partner "Ray Casanov" as soon as possible so that he can get back to the case he considers his own.
The new partners get into a number of situations, as you might expect, with Casanov always getting in the way or - worse yet - actually trying to play the part of a real cop. Moss can't even shake the guy away from work, as Lang tries to spend every moment studying the cop's life firsthand - including Moss' flailing relationship with his girlfriend Susan (Annabella Sciorra). It's easy to predict how everything will turn out in the end, yet the journey to that ending turns out to be surprisingly entertaining.
I'm not sure how successful this film was at the box office - heck, I don't even remember hearing about this film back in 1991. It's sort of a sleeper, though - the kind of film that appears to be too buried in clichés and predictability to really succeed, yet succeed it does. Maybe it's Woods' intense performance that never crosses the fine line between realism and farce, or Fox's energetic performance as the spoiled actor who really wants to learn the ropes from a cop he genuinely admires (no matter how badly Moss treats him). Whatever it is, The Hard Way is a surprisingly enjoyable romp of a film.

A Haunting, Complex, Ultimately Rewarding Movie...with a Backstory .......2006-10-05
A complex character study involving two primary characters. Adrian Brody portrays Jack, an intriguingly two-sided figure. One side is literate and sensitive, creating a secret little "office" in a tiny, rental cubicle in which he studiously labors on a novel based on his second side: a violent, risk-taking con man who sets up foreign businessmen with hookers, then masquerades as a vice cop to shake them down. To further complicate his life, he meets and becomes infatuated with a brilliant but virginal movie house concession stand clerk named Claire (Charlote Ayanna). Claire is intrigued by Jack's dangerous side and strongly attracted to his sensitive side, and as a result, falls so deeply in love with him that she is willing to do anything to preserve their increasingly difficult relationship. "Anything" in this case includes drugs, prostitution, and other self-destructive behaviors. As is always the case, gentle people such as Claire cannot venture into this realm without paying a huge price, including complete emotional breakdown and fully intended, not simply "attempted", suicide. How will it end? Apparently even director Peter Sehr could not completely resolve this issue, but it appears that they settled on a sweet but rather ambiguous and unlikely "happy ending".
Plot synopsis aside, there is an equally interesting and unbelievable side story involving Charlotte Ayanna, the virginal Claire. Born in Puerto Rico and originally named Lopez (Ayanna, a stage name, means "blessed), her mother had serious psychiatric problems and as a result, she and her brother and sister were put into foster care and endured an impoverished childhood. Charlotte was in the system for 16 years before being adopted by a family in Vermont. She entered the Miss Teen USA contest, won the title of "Miss Vermont" and ultimately was crowned Miss Teen USA in 1993 wearing a $37 evening gown.
The movie is extremely "gritty" and at times rather depressing, but overall it is definitely worth the viewing time. The DVD deleted scenes include a scene that makes the ending far less ambiguous....be sure to watch.
[3.5]--Trying to love and be loved with a broken heart........2006-10-02
I would have given this flick 4 star, but there were some plotting issues and areas where things didn't get developed as well as they should have. Claire is a grad student who gets straight A's, wanting to rebel she gets with Jack, the petty thief and secret writer, whose world is turned up upside-down by a combination of sex, true love, and loyalty. This film was very intense & leaves you thinking. Anyone, esp. women, who has fallen in love with a "dangerous/mysterious" type will surely relate to this because stories like hers are very common, although not everybody goes to such extremes.
Adrien Brody is an excellent actor and gives an interesting and subtle performance that he slowly let us in to the interior that lies under the criminal, streetwise exterior. The script doesn't actually explain how Jack Grace became the way he is. The sketchy details about his background he provides Claire could be a figment of his overactive imagination. So all we can do is watch Claire sink lower and lower, but eventually redeem herself. Charlotte Ayanna's performance as Claire was wonderful she has depicted this role without any annoying mannerisms and has pushed some realistic traits into her character. Pam Grier is also good in her "almost-cameo" role as the police officer who comes in and out of the lead characters' lives throughout the film as well as Jon Seda as Jack partner in crime and close friend.
`Love The Hard Way' is a bitter sweet love story that will make you think. It also provides some dark mysterious qualities. Peter Sehr is a great director. The cinematography and use of colors that he captures are wonderful. The plot is at once very unconventional, given that it isn't quite as linear as most...and yet has all the elements necessary for a successful drama. All around this movie is worth seeing.
Virgin Myth.......2006-03-21
Pam Grier steals this film and she's only on screen for five minutes total. She's a whole lot of woman! Just kidding. I liked Love the Hard Way. Here is an attempt at a modern romantic myth, namely the American Virgin. Sure men want their love chick to be pure, to raise sons and daughters that are yours and yours alone, but Adrien Brody is a young thief in a porno world he did not make. After all, he's slept with 200 women. So in between hotel sleaze capers, he beds innocent Columbia biology genius with the big chest, Charlotte Avanna, and our Lothario gets more than he bargained for as his virgin becomes promiscuous in the cause of thievery. Naturally, our hero is stunned, angry, and confused.
Charlottes' revenge or strategy to get her man is pretty far fetched, but the director has created an atmosphere of slimy New York thieves on the make with a rap film score and big Cadillac's squealing tires amidst the riff raff, so we sort of believe the unbelievable. It's a nice try in the same vein as Tarentino's script, True Romance, but LTHW is grittier.
Love the Hard Way - Is there any other way?.......2006-03-16
I absolutely loved this movie! I cried my eyes out the first time I saw it. I once fell HARD for a street-wise bad boy myself and could relate to this movie on so many levels. Like Claire & Jack, my bad boy and I came from completely opposite backgrounds, he was the son of a non-functioning drunk and I grew up a preacher's kid. The attraction between Claire & Jack made perfect sense to me although, to any sane person looking on, it didnt make any sense at all. Like Claire, I was irrisistably drawn to my bad boy, could NOT get enough of him and would have willingly followed him to hell and back if he'd asked. My friends (and his) tried to warn me off and, yes, I had my heart bludgeoned on several occasions, but I never gave up on him. There was just something about him, so much potential - I just KNEW he could be great if I could only make HIM realize it. Over the course of our crazy relationship, I left home, much to my parents' distress but, thankfully, I didnt completely lose my mind like Claire did - I never lost my self respect. In the end, it was a hard road and I lost alot of my innocence; I'd been sheltered so much in my life up 'til then. Teaching him how to love and give and be thankful toughened me up, made me stronger emotionally, but it was worth every moment of self doubt, worth every tear. And now, my REFORMED bad boy and I have been happily married for 16 years this month. He's a wonderful, patient father to our son and is a sucessful, respected business man in our town. I wish they'd make a sequel to this movie so we can find out if Claire & Jack are as lucky in love as we've been!!
adrain brody: a good actor you don't hear much about.......2005-12-26
this one was released fresh on the heels of his oscar win in " the pianist " he plays a small time hustler who has literary aspirations. adrian does his performance raw and street, making the most of a screenplay, which is very well done. jon seda as his sidekick is equally entertaining and charlotte ayanna is good as the straight a student who tries to do a " florence nightingale" on brody's character, but succumbs to the low-end kind of life. charlotte has a great body and she shows it quite a bit here. Pam Grier ( whatever happened to her ? ) is excellent as the vice cop who's on his case. she is a good character actress, who never seems to get enough work or enough credit.

If you liked Bob Welch/Fleetwood Mac.......2006-10-22
You'll like this. Seems similar to me. The other guys in the band are very good but not much to look at. If you like guitar videos, add this one. This is blues the way I like it-not "stuck in a rut" blues. Good music.
The way it is, is perfect.......2005-11-21
It is not surprising that this DVD, released a week ago did not receive any comments till now: this is exactly the essence of Snowy White- instead of going in front of the stage, for some what reason he goes back stage, and this is huge loss for all blues fans. Snowy White is a blues guitar player rooted in the British blues of the 60'. Basically he follows his hero Peter Green and in some points in this DVD you can imagine that Peter Green is on stage- the technique, the sound and the slow solos, all are based on Peter Green' legacy. So, there is no wonder that he does some of Peter Green best songs. "Black Magic Woman" comes back to its roots- a slow even bitter song, sang with pain and not a salsa song. Snowy does the same with Jimi Hendrix- "Little Wing"- so many wrong interpretations to this amazing song, most of them went to the rock side. Now we have a very good interpretation that gives a lot of respect to Jimi. For all these good reasons, one should purchase this DVD. If you want to see what had happened with the amazing guitar players of Thin Lizzy (Snowy and Gary), just purchase this together with Gary' "Ballads&Blues" and you are settled. This is the way it is for Snowy, the fans want more.

This frenetic documentary about motorcycle daredevil Seth Enslow chronicles his career as a madman on two wheels, focusing on his attempt to set the world's distance record for jumping a motorcycle more than 250 feet from one ramp to another. Enslow's reckless style is portrayed vividly with clips showing him doing things on a motorcycle that no sane person would even envision. He tries to ride up vertical mountainsides, he goes rocketing off cliffs, and in one segment that shows how he literally dropped onto the scene and established himself as an up and coming wild man, he sails through the air and lands on a desert hillside filled with parked motorcycles (whose owners madly scramble to avoid his unexpected landing). Enslow is interviewed on the radio by rapper Ice T, and he's followed on tour in various countries, doing motorcycle stunts and partying with his friends, who are, like he is, heavily tattooed dudes. The Hard Way showcases Enslow's obsession to set the world's distance jumping record, and even interviews the fellow who designed Enslow's ramp. Footage of the great jump includes Enslow's rough and bloody landing. As if that's not enough, the DVD contains an extra feature containing X-rays of Enslow's injuries. --Robert J. McNamara

Crashfest!.......2004-01-28
If you like freestyle motocross and long jumps, this is definitely a DVD for you. Not only is the footage from his world record attempt (and resulting injury) on here, but a tonne of footage of his crashes too. I also loved how they included some quick clips of his fun in various other sports (flipping a truck, snowmobiling, snowboarding, etc)
Lots of extras, some medical info/clips (on various serious injuries), and more!
A great DVD, but it's too bad it's out of print...grab a copy while you can!
Seth Rules.......2003-09-19
Seth rocks, this video is awesome, the best, and those who think that not showing it to their kids is a good thing, I mean please who are they kidding, would they rather them be watching Seth on a bike or big arnie shooting someone up or some homeboy selling drugs in half of the hollywood flicks today, I hate to shock them but kids have seen it all, a motocross video will do nothing to them, this one will however amaze them
Seth - The Hard Way.......2002-07-23
If I could give zero stars I would. I agree with the review by Ken L.
If you have kids DO NOT buy this video. Seth Enslow is reckless & irresponsible. Not the guy to be your kids hero.
McGrath, Carmichael, Pastrana etc., are guys you can look up to. Great riders, professional, responsible......
TRASH.......2001-12-02
THIS FILM HAS VERY LITTLE TO DO WITH MOTORCYCLING AND MORE TO DO ABOUT SETH AND HIS WANABEE GANGSTER FRIENDS. SETH BEHAVES LIKE A PUNK IN THIS VIDEO, KIDS LOOK UP TO HIM, AND HE HAS LET THEM DOWN, HE HAS SHOWN THAT HE IS NOT WORTH LOOKING UP TO. IN ONE SCENE HIM AND HIS "POSSE" ARE WALKING DOWN THE STREET HOLDING ASSAULT RIFLES, WHAT DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH MOTORCYCLING?? I ADVISE AGAINST BUYING HIS VIDEO, GIVE YOUR MONEY TO TRAVIS OR MCGRATH
Huck Seth Huck.......2001-11-21
I've never seen a viedo where someone jibs so much. Seth is a god. If you have seen any of the crusty videos then your going to love "The hard way". He just hucks it so much bigger then anyone ever has. There is just something awsome about going for the record jump on a motorbike and getting crushed. Check out slednecks if your into people huckin it huge. It was cool, big truck.

Customer Reviews:
Not too shabby........2004-12-19
For a low budget direct-to-video action flick, this doesn't come off to bad. It stars real like Kickboxing champion Don "The Dragon" Wilson as an ex-CIA agent who's past back to haunt him when he and his son are targeted for murder. Some decent plot twists and Don's sub par acting is still likeable. I was actually surprised to see this film retitled as part of the Bloodfist series as I originally saw it on video as just Hard Way Out. That's ok that it was retitled Bloodfist VIII: Hard Way Out as it makes my Bloodfist collection that much longer.
Best of Don "The Dragon's" flicks.......1999-02-20
This is the best (admitedly that's not saying much) of überawful Don "the Dragon" Wilson's chop socky flicks, redeemed by good writing and a story that holds your interest. Some good martial arts action, as well. If you want to turn off your brain for an evening, this is a good call.
Description
First, John Gutfreund, who lead a prior branch of the Travelers' Group, and Robert Litan, director of economics at the Brookings Institution, express their surprise that a large merger was announced between financial service companies CitiGroup and Travelers' Group. They discuss why this merger was decided on and what it might mean for the future. Then, Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich discusses the Republican hold on the legislative branch, the Contract With America, his fiscal and political policies, and his new book, Lessons Learned the Hard Way, A Personal Report.
