This chaotic and gratuitously violent movie deservedly took a nosedive when released in 1996. It belongs in the same category of air-disaster movies as Con Air and Air Force One, but those films could be considered masterpieces in comparison to this schlock. Ray Liotta gives an over-the-top performance as the so-called Lonely Hearts Killer, who seizes control of a 747 during mid-flight and proceeds to wreak havoc. He kills just about everyone, but Lauren Holly survives as the flight attendant who eventually has to land the damaged airliner while the pilot of another 747 (Ben Cross) talks her through the landing procedure. Sound familiar? It ought to--Turbulence is another grab bag of thriller clichés. --Jeff Shannon

1 out of 5 stars If Turbulence Can't break your onboard Implausibility Meter Nothing WILL!.......2007-04-12

Too bad I can not give Turbulence no stars. This movie is just filled with way too many things that just stretch even the most liberal imaginations well past the limits of reality! The whole movie just does not work. The FBI agents are too easily overcome and out smarted by a self professed genius serial killer whose one dimensional actions make his IQ seem incredibly average to me. Rather than being very smart the serial killer seemed a self absorbed slob who is overly impressed with his own lame exploits. The rest of the airplane passengers seem like fawns or sheep. Logic suggests when transporting a dangerous horde of hardened criminals the crew would be a select group of individuals hand picked for their skill at dealing with a plane full of diseased brilliant minded malefactors.

The plot is obviously concocted to introduce fawn like ladies and foppish men into the mix so the audience has a heightened thrill factor. Problem is the other non-law enforcement passengers seem inserted into the plot for no good reason other than their role as pawns to be used by the serial killer to drag an otherwise painfully predictable lifeless story along to its all too formulaic end. Also the Christmas lights festooned all over the plane when you are carrying hardcore prisoners is so over the top that you must wonder what the heck were the writers thinking. Most hardcore prisoners are quite intelligent and could certainly turn all those dangling Christmas lights to their advantage in some vile criminal way. No FBI agent or corrections officer worth his or her salt would let a prisoner set foot in a plane that had so many opportunities for prisoners to escape their direct care custody and control.

Also the most glaring flaw in Turbulence occurs when even the most basic tenants of maintaining care custody and control of violent malignant inmates were overlooked again and again. The Plane skimming over buildings through rooftops into structures was just plain stupid. While most tall buildings roof top garden rooms and associated elements are lightly constructed they must stand up to high winds. Add that buildings the plane was scraping had mechanical equipment towers where strong girders and supports reside that should have broken the plane up or at least damaged it more than was shown. It is like the writers of Turbulence were a bunch of college drama students drunk and totally detached from reality got challenged to come up with a disaster thriller plot. Drama for drama's sake without any plausible relationship to reality is not thrilling or action adventure it is just disjointed stupid garbage. Turbulence is just garbage to watch when you have time to waste. If you want real suspense on a plane get Air Force One. Turbulence is an invitation to take a round trip to and from Palooka-Ville, the plane has plenty of seats available but who cares!. This Turbulence is just a bumpy ride that leaves you feeling sick. I can think of better ways to spend time.

4 out of 5 stars NOT A BAD MOVIE!.......2006-02-03

this film isnt near as bad as people say...that is if u like good serial killer films....a must for ray liotta fans....this guy plays serial killers better than anyone ever...his eyes look like pure insanity....also see "unlawful entry" for another great performance as a crazy basta#$....some good action and pretty formulaic film overall however..but its Liotta who makes it worthwhile

4 out of 5 stars Flight Attendant Kicks A**!!!.......2005-01-09

Yes, the plot is stupid. Yes the cast is less than stellar (other than Liotta), yes you've seen others like this before...OR HAVE YOU?
Turbulence is a great ride from start to finish because it IS so predictable; you don't have to pay that close of attention and think too hard to get the plot but it is suspensful and a kick to watch Lauren Holly's character grow in her own self-confidence by the end of the film. At the beginning of the film she's the weak little blonde who lets men walk all over her. By the end she's a flight attendant who kicks butt.
Liotta, as always, does a great job portraying his character. As Ryan Weaver, a serial killer, he did his homework on the nuances that make "serials" serials. He uses his good looks and natural charm to get women to trust him, uses his brain to take advantage of a great situation in his favor, is emotionally manipulative, and then masterfully becomes a complete psycho all in the blink of an eye. Probably one of the best portrayals of a serial killer I've seen on the big screen for a long time.
Without spoiling the "big" moments in the film I will say that what happens to Catherine Hicks'(Child's Play, Star Trek IV, tv's 7th Heaven) character is a shame (sad, actually), one of the funniest moments of the film (in a sicko kind of way) is when Liotta "decorates" the plane with some of the passengers, and the ending is pretty schlocky and cheesy.
But all in all, I was certainly rooting for Lauren Holly's stewardess (sorry, "she's a flight attendant") when she outdoes Karen Black (Airport '77) by a mile in finally landing the plane and basically telling the officials on the ground to go to hell!
The photography is decent, a few of the special effects very cool, and there are a few real decent laughs along with a little gore. Oh, and you will never watch "It's A Wonderful Life" in the same light again!

3 out of 5 stars Your typical action movie.......2004-12-25

I can't say I was too fussed about watching this movie, but I watched this movie, otherwise I would have watched Tru Calling all night! :) As it's a Christmas movie, I was only ALLOWED to watch it before Christmas. Not after, cos that would be bad, right? I decided to watch it on Christmas Eve Eve, but I'm beginning to wish I'd watched it now, as Christmas Eve is really dragging - I'm still a big kid at heart! (I wanna open presents!)

I have to say, after this movie started, I was instantly distracted by Lauren Holly's severe haircut - boy, that did NOT suit her! If I remember correctly, I've only seen her before in Dumb & Dumber, but the haircut was absolutely dreadful! (Apologies to people out there who have this haircut.) Someone who has prominent cheekbones that I would die for, would probably get away with it. She also manages to strip down to her underwear, when she doesn't have much to fill it, and it just a cheap thrill for the guys.

I've never seen Goodfella's, so had absolutely no idea who Ray Liotta was, although he reminded me of a more evil-looking Patrick Swayze! That was also very distracting! He did quite a good job, making you constantly wonder whether he was the good guy or the bad guy. He's also a bit OTT in the role - I'm not sure why, he just wasn't convincing.

I love Hector Elizondo ever since I saw Pretty Woman, and then afterwards, Runaway Bride. He doesn't appear much in this, and almost comes across as the bad guy at points.

Most of the movie isn't worth going into detail about. You mix in every (im)possible event that could happen, and then add the plucky, brave girl (flight attendant, not stewardess!) who thinks she can save the day. Prancing around in your underwear doesn't save the day.

What scared me most about this movie was the very obvious references to the 9/11 tragedy - despite it being made 4-5 years before, it seemed almost like a premonition at some points, and scared the bejeezus out of me. I think if this had been out around the same time as 9/11, it would have been either straight-to-DVD, or, like Spiderman, the World Trade Centre digitally removed. (WTC doesn't appear in this - it's what happens that makes me think of 9/11.)

What I did like about this movie, was Lauren Holly getting told how to land the plane - or attempt to - and seeing what all the buttons were. I felt like I learned a little bit - although I'll probably forget it all. That was the one bit of the movie I really concentrated on, and it actually interested me.

For me, this movie is what Final Destination was like a few years, just before I went on holiday. I won't be getting on a plane anytime soon. It's a stupid movie, but good enough to remove a couple of hours of your life watching it.

3 out of 5 stars Completely mad.......2004-12-13

Turbulence is just plain stupidity from beginning to end. But there is so much fun to be had in the madness that it's always worth a mindless watch.

Our silly plot has Ray Liotta and Brendan Gleeson as serial killer and bank robber breaking loose from their captors aboard a virtually empty cross-country flight, killing the pilots and FBI before the runaway plane flies into a hurricane. Liotta promptly eliminates Gleeson and chases after stewardess Lauren Holly. All on Xmas Eve.

Yes it's highly ridiculous. But director Robert Butler brings strong, vigorous direction, piles on loads of wild atmosphere and lets cinematographer Lloyd Ahern get carried away with his consistantly stunning, crisp photography.

Action movies today nearly always have some ironic or political edge. Turbulence is just violence for the sake of violence. And why not? This is not a film made to change your life. It's just renegade entertainment.

Ray Liotta isn't quite scary as the serial killer as he goes way over the top. But, thankfully, is never campy (always a mistake when playing serial killers, coughhannibalcough). If your into movies about nasty Xmas' then this, Gremlins and Silent Night, Deadly Night are the movies you ought to watch.

The R1 DVD is in very cool Dolby 5.1 and is shown in the incorrect aspect ratio of 1.78:1 (16x9 enhanced) instead of the theatrical 2.35:1. The R2 DVD however is in Dolby 2.0 Surround but shows the film in the proper ratio of 2.35:1.

Product Description

Flying affects everyone differently. Statistics show that the fear of flying is rather common. And, even though many people enjoy flying, nearly everyone has felt a little nervous at some time. Those who suffer can experience sleeplessness, anxiety, and panic attacks. Fearful flyers may miss out on vacations and business opportunities. Friends and family often don't understand or aren't supportive of those who are affected. It is reasonable to feel trapped, out of control, or to be startled by that unexpected patch of turbulence, or that strange sound or feeling after take off. If you don't have the facts to explain what is happening, your imagination will naturally take over. A strong fear of flying can be caused by a disturbing event in flight (turbulence?). If, during this event, you believed you were truly in danger of losing your life, you can develop a lasting anxiety. Many people become more nervous about flying with age or after having children. We become more aware of just how fragile and dear life is. Also, people who are nervous flyers tend to have a strong imagination or a need to feel in control. Prepare to Fly is ideal for the first time flyer, the extremely nervous flyer, or the experienced traveler who wants to learn exactly what goes on behind the scenes. With help from industry experts you'll safely experience all the sights and sounds of jet travel and learn coping skills to get you through your next flight. For those who have trouble even thinking about flying, Prepare to Fly gently guides you through every aspect of flight.

You've may have heard the saying, "Face your fear and do it anyway." That sounds great but how do you take that first step toward "doing it anyway"? This DVD is a fabulous tool for fearful flyers. The Captain helps us understand why we're afraid, how it affects us and what is really going on with the plane, the people, the weather and other factors. The basic principal is simple. When we know what's going on, we no longer feel the fear.

The information is excellent and the participants are knowledgeable. The details are presented by professionals who are working in aviation every day and you really get the feeling that they care about the struggles of fearful flyers. The visuals really help you grasp the basics of flight and you'll be surprised how much confidence that gives you!

5 out of 5 stars Fear of Flying Video a great help for the aviophobic!.......2006-04-11

Since I've had children I've developed a fear of flying, which no book or doctor has been able to successfully help me overcome. After watching Stacey Chance's video I now understand just how flying is actually safer than driving! He explains how the plane works (magnificently), security features both on the plane and on the ground, how easily both the plane and pilot can avoid severe weather, and most importantly for me, how turbulence is nothing to fear. He truly understands the panic of a fearful flyer, and calmly and competently talks us down!

1 out of 5 stars Save your money....wait for the 'Network Television Premiere'.......2006-02-19

Don't bother making a DVD or VHS purchase of this so-called sequel, the pain will only hurt more! Tom Berenger, Craig Sheffer, and Jennifer Beals make a futile attempt to save this movie, but there efforts couldn't revive it. All of the 747 flying sequences are 'stolen' from the orginal 'Turbulence'and to add insult to fatal injury, the movie questions all aviation intellectuals by showing our heroes walking away from a 737 at the end of the movie. Please... Please... Please... Stay away from the bootlegs, video rentals, and purchases of this flick, wait for TBS, TNT, or the USA network to broadcast it instead!

3 out of 5 stars NO WAY TO CURE A PHOBIA.......2004-11-27

I'm sure by the end of this movie the fear of flying class still had even more fear of flying. In TURBULENCE 2 FEAR OF FLYING, a familiar scenario unfolds; we know that someone on the plane is going to have to fly it and bring it in safely. This time it falls on the shoulders of Craig Sheffer, who usually plays a bad guy, but this time he's the hero. Add pretty Jennifer Beals as a claustrophobic, too, and Jeremy Nordling as a despicable bad guy with a phony British accent and you have all the requisites for a hold your breath action movie.
Given the genre has been beat to death, there are some suspenseful moments and some over the top plot twists, but it's tidy enough to keep a viewer interested. Tom Berenger pops in as the flight attendant, and didn't have to worry about any Oscar nominations for this one!

2 out of 5 stars Pretty bad..........2003-01-23

The first portion of this movie wasn't so bad. And yes, it did touch upon current issues (it was a little eerie at times -- seeing a story about a terrorist taking over an airliner). So what may have seemed over-the-top and silly at the time is now more plausable. Well, a little more plausable, anyway.

I didn't mind the rather absurd premise of this film. I didn't let myself get bogged down, worrying about this technical improbablility and that technical improbability. After all, what do I know about airliners and all the techno-geeky stuff? Nothing! So, I just figured that it was all relatively plausable, and left it at that. So I do not think I was being nit-picky in the least.

I liked most of the characters; they were fine. Likeable. Craig Sheffer made a good hero -- he should play such roles more often. Jennifer Beals is lovely and gave a decent performance. The "bad guy" (Jeffrey Nordling) was really good at being evil. Tom Berenger didn't have that exciting of a part (he played the head air traffic controller), but he did very well with what he was given.

Half way through the film, I was thinking, "This really isn't so bad after all. Not great, but typical B-movie stuff." And then something SO dumb, SO implausable happened, that even I, in my forgiving and easy-going mood, thought, "NO WAY." It all kind of fell apart after that for me. The film could never quite recover from such an embarrassingly stupid plot device. And it didn't.

The ending was...bad. Not so much because of the "hero landing the plane" business (we've seen that a million times before and usually accept it) but just because it never could redeem itself after the embarrassingly stupid plot device. Plus, there were portions of the ending were corny, forced -- I cringed in parts. I found myself saying, "This is a BAD movie."

Too bad it started to fall apart like that at the end. The rest of the movie was never going to be considered *good*, but it could have avoided being quite so bad had it not taken that fatally stupid turn near the end.

5 out of 5 stars Great movie. Touches on current issues.......2002-03-15

Great movie, with the aura of a James Bond flick.

4 out of 5 stars Unbelievable scenes... but very good movie!.......2002-03-11

I'm probably one of the few people that enjoyed this movie. It's has a very far-fetched storyline, with tons of holes. It would have been better if the writer spent a little more time making this more believable. But for those that like action movies, and can ignore the holes in this story - you'll enjoy it.

This is an interesting story of a "fear of flying" class that takes it's first group flight, only to be hijacked. Sit back and enjoy this one, but don't look for holes in this film, as it is full of them.

5 out of 5 stars UK prog-rockers LANDMARQ give a dynamic, passionate performance in Poland...Best new progressive music I've heard in years! .......2006-05-05

Formed in 1989, one could say that Landmarq were late-comers to the "2nd generation prog revival" headed by bands like Marillion, Pendragon, IQ, and Pallas. And while I enjoy Landmarq's early material, I must admit that it wasn't until lead vocalist Tracy Hitchings joined (in 1998) that they really knocked me off my feet, becoming one of my all-time favorite bands. The first album with Tracy, "Science of Coincidence", still rates as a personal favorite 8 years later, as do the 2 subsequent live releases culled from that tour. And although they have continued to be a popular live act in Europe, the last several years have probably seemed like something of a dry spell for Landmarq fans in the USA, with no new music to sink our teeth into, and no chances to catch the band in concert...Luckily, all that has just changed!...Recorded in November, 2005, at the Wynspiaski Theater in Krawotice, Poland, "Turbulence" is Landmarq's first ever concert DVD. It also provides the first taste that many fans will get of music from the band's forthcoming studio album (their first since "Science".) There is, in fact, over AN HOUR of all new music to be found here - obviously a big chunk of the new album!...So, how does the new stuff stack up???...After several listens over the last week or so, I must say that, not only does the new material NOT disappoint, but it is some of the freshest, most compelling, most creative new prog-rock that I have listened to in several years! While the last year or so has seen some fine new prog releases from Pendragon, Jadis, Pallas, The Syn, etc., in my opinion, this new Landmarq material beats them all! (others are free to disagree, so no hate mail please.) What we have here is five creative musicians at the top of their game. Not only are they masterful in their individual talents, but they gel incredibly well as a cohesive musical unit. The writing, arranging, playing, lyrics - it's all top notch! The current line-up consists of Hitchings (lead vocals), Steve Gee (5 string bass), Dave Wagstaffe (drums), Uwe D'Rose (guitar), and new member Mike Varty (keyboards). Varty should already be known to neo-prog fans for his previous work with Shadowland, Credo, & Janison Edge. And while this is his first recorded work with Landmarq, he fits in so well that it seems like he's always been there! Here is a quick run down of what to expect from the set-list: "Entertaining Angels" (a great opening number, with a majestic guitar/keyboard theme that leads into a melodic, memorable verse/chorus), "Calm Before the Storm" (a dark, ominous prog epic in 3 parts - featuring some fierce instrumental fireworks, unusual chord changes, and a more 'theatrical' vocal performance from Tracy), "Prayer" (a gorgeous piano-based ballad highlighted by powerful singing and a bit of 'lead bass' from Steve Gee), "Thunderstruck" (epic prog with more twists and turns than a good mystery novel! The tricky unison riff and elegiac 'climax' section are awe-inspiring. I also love the brief 'jazzy' section where Tracy does her best 'sexy chanteuse' routine!), "Walking On Eggshells" (a dreamy piece of art-pop, with some intricate guitar/keys/bass interplay and a sensitive vocal), "Landslide" (an all-instrumental workout taken from the "Infinity Parade" CD. This is a superior version, with some nimble-fingered soloing from Varty and an extended drum solo from Wagstaffe), "Timeline" (an upbeat, melodious rocker with positive lyrics), "Mountains of Anglia" (a bristling prog-rocker with echoey guitars, infectious melodies, and a breathtaking climax), and finally, "Lighthouse" (taken from the "Science of Coincidence" CD, this makes for a thunderous encore piece, and nicely sums up everything that's great about this band!) After giving this DVD some repeated viewings, I must say one thing really stands out. Tracy Hitchings shows that, without a doubt, she posesses one of the most dynamic and distinctive voices in all of progressive rock. Not only does she NAIL every note (she does have a day-job as a licensed voice teacher, after all!), but her performances are full of nuance, originality, and above all else, feeling! Tracy also has an engaging, charismatic presence on stage, like she was born for this whole 'front person' role (she's also quite lovely to look at...but I digress : ) Bassist Steve Gee also impresses. While many rock bassists just seem like background players, Gee has a prominent role within Landmarq's music, and is one of the only bass players I've heard with a difinitive sound of his own...As for the technical aspects??? The filming, camera work, and video quality on this DVD are among the best I have seen, featuring great views of the whole stage, and (when appropriate) some tight close-ups of fingers flying across instruments. The 5.1 audio mix is full-bodied, crystal clear, and sounds particularly great through headphones! (There is also the option of an standard stereo mix.) The special features are pretty good, too. I especially enjoyed the 30 minute interview with Hitchings, Gee, and Wagstaffe...Thanks to Metal Mind Productions for bringing this and other quality prog DVD's to the USA (I understand that a new Pendragon DVD will be filming in Poland soon.) Some of us might never have had a chance to see these great bands otherwise. Bravo!

5 out of 5 stars Killer Performance.......2006-04-30

For those of us that will probably never get a chance to see Landmarq live, this DVD is a real boon. The playing is stellar and Tracy's voice is spot on. The material is all mostly new stuff that isn't out yet on CD, so that's a bonus too. Lots of room for instrumental stretching out by the band, great sound quality and clear video.

this is by far the greatest superstar death rocker doing his final concert in flight which then gets highjacked by satanic terrorists so they can crash slade craven and the plain into stull kansas in front of 10 thousand viewers to kill the false prophet and release the devil into the world only to be stopped by said superstar death rocker and his paisley clad computer hacker chum and safley land the plain in heavy turbulence so the world can be saved and the nerd can get the girl movie EVER MADE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! do whatever you have to do to see this movie. steal money from your moms purse, mug an old lady, steal candy from a thousand babies, whatever it takes! i promise that you won't be disapointed!

3 out of 5 stars I'll Take This "B" Movie Over A Coma Anyday.......2005-09-19

I've seen hundreds of Sci Fi/Horror movies over the years. This is one of those you'll wonder whether you've watched it or not a few years down the road. You just can't remember.

All in all, I figure it's still better to watch a so-so Sci Fi/Horror movie than "Dances With Wolves" or "Evita". This movie will end up being non-memorable, but it's preferable to being in a coma.

1 out of 5 stars Worst concert ever!!!.......2004-12-28

Slade Craven was definitely not on his game for his farewell concert. One of his strong points has always been his "stick-to-itivism" and single-minded, determined work ethics.
Imagine my chagrin as he walked off after a half hearted attempt at one song (albeit a great, great §?¢^in' tune!).
All that aside, Slade's gumption really ended up coming through in saving many lives by safely landing a very complex aircraft and averted an evil metaphysical event in Kansas.
Slade dropped off the radar(no pun intended) after this heroic feat, and I have heard rumors from fellow Slade fans that he has changed his appearance so that he looks more like his high school yearbook photo, and is now persuing the "sensitive singer/songwriter" school of music.
Any leads, anyone?

3 out of 5 stars HEAVY METAL MADNESS.......2004-11-29

Casting Craig Sheffer in this third Turbulence movie is a little strange, considering he also starred in the second. What's strange is that in this one he's playing an entirely different character, and it makes me wonder why they used this mediocre performer in two movies?
Anyway, in TURBULENCE 3, we get the highly improbable scenario of a Goth rocker fashioned after Marilyn Manson who is going to stage his farewell concert on board a 747. Somehow, defying all logic, they've "redesigned" the plane to include this huge amphitheatre for the concert. The music is typical heavy metal, heavily laced with violent lyrics, and Satanic undertones. So it's not so unusual when a Satanic cult leader switches places with Slade Craven, the international rock star, and plans on hijacking the plane to Kansas (?) which is supposed to be the most evil place on earth (tell that to Dorothy and the Oz boys). This is pretty far-fetched stuff folks.
Anyway, the requisite nonsense happens with computer hacker Sheffer and FBI agent Gabrielle Anwar helping someone fly the plane after the captain is killed and copilot Rutger Hauer offs himself. (Don't want to spoil why Hauer harikaris or who the pilot is).
There is also a pretty good twist in the identity of one of the cult members on board.
For grade B entertainment, this movie will deliver and it does have a very effective performance by John Mann as the crazed Craven.
After viewing these three turbulent movies, my fear of flying has worsened. Terra firma!

4 out of 5 stars Believe it or not..........2004-07-28

Believe it or not, this is actually not that bad of a film. Now, that shouldn't be taken to mean that this is a particularly good film, either but as far as implausible B-movies taking place on hijacked airplanes without pilots go, Turbulence 3 is definitely one of the better examples of the genre.

Basically, the film deals with Slade Craven, a "goth" rock star that is obviously meant to conjure up memories of Marilyn Manson. Bizarrely enough, the two songs that Craven actually performs in the film are actually fairly good. Like a lot of things in this film, the songs are actually something that the producers could have easily blown off but instead, for whatever reason, they actually went to the effort necessary to keep things at least occasionally entertaining. Anyway, for some reason, Craven's latest concert is going to be a pay-per-view extravaganza held inside a 747 flying to Canada. Of course, the idea of holding a concert in an airplane while the airplane is actually in flight is nothing short of ludicrous. Of course, it's no more ludicrous than Rutger Hauer, of all people, popping up as the plane's copilot without raising anyone's suspicions. The filmmakers to their credit, don't waste any time trying to justify this insanity but instead they cheerfully embrace the silliness of it all and roll with it.

In quick order, the flight ends up getting hijacked by your typical group of demented Satanists. While the plane's helpless passengers -- a nice combination of decadent goths, confused stewardesses, and bandmates who wouldn't be out of place in a shock rock sequel to Almost Famous -- fight for their lives, a ground-based computer hacker (Craig Sheffer) works with a tightly wound yet secretly frisky FBI agent (Gabrielle Anwar) to thwart the hijacker's sinister plans. (Those plans never quite make sense but, by this point, we've already been forced to accept the sight of a concert being held in a 747 and it's already too late to quibble about plausibility.)

Strangely enough, this all works in it's nicely demented way. This is a fun film and, if for nothing else, it deserves credit for not insulting the viewer's intelligence by trying to be anything other than an entertaining action-comedy. The script is full of a few pithy one-liners that serve almost to satirize all the awful "comic" relief that audiences have been subjected to in every big-budget action film produced since the late '80s. As well, the film's actors all seem to be having fun and it comes across to the viewer. Special notice should be given to Joe Mantegna, who seems to be chanelling none other than Airplane's glue-sniffing Lloyd Bridges, as a by-the-book FBI agent, Hauer, Anwar, and, surprisingly, Craig Sheffer who, for once, manages to turn in a performance as something else than the most boring human being alive. The film's strongest peformance comes from an unknown by the name of John Mann who manages to make Slade Craven into an actual, almost compelling human being as opposed to a cardboard cut-out of Marilyn Manson.

Turbulence 3 is the type of time waster that gives wasting time a good name.

3 out of 5 stars it's okay.......2006-08-24

I bought this video in the VHS format, and I'm glad I did not spend extra for the DVD, though I tried to find it on laserdisc. Great computer amination, but it was too short compared to other computer animation titles in the mind's eye series. Portions of Turbulence had already been presented in Beyond the Mind's Eye and Oddessey to the Mind's Eye, but with different music.

5 out of 5 stars CGI oh my.......2002-03-29

One of the better CG videos out there. My only contension is it could have been a little longer, maybe 50 min or an hour. 30 min is too short. The music was very diff from other CG DVD's of the past. Very tranqull. Relaxing to watch.

5 out of 5 stars Best of the series.......2000-04-22

I must disagree with the previous reviewer. I have seen all of the titles in the Mind's Eye series and in my opinion this is the best. I enjoyed the others but this was a breath of fresh air.Do not buy this dvd expecting realistic animated characters or enviroments. If this is what you like try the first three Mind's Eye productions.Rather, this dvd presents some very imaginative and engaging abstract animations. Eye candy, at its best. Not all of the chapters have musical scores. Those which do fit well with the imagery. The remaining are layered with soundscapes and voices which brought the visuals to life and set this disc far apart from the others I have seen. The last chapters play like a resume but a top notch one from an innovative artist. All in all I enjoyed Turbulence more than any computer animation video I have watched.

2 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money on this one........1999-02-23

After being an avid fan of the Mind's eye series, this title was a huge letdown. There is little music included in this short 30 minute video. Most of the computer animation is simplistic and uninteresting. The only real eye-popping animation is just a regurgitation of the exact same animation already included in "Odyssey into the Mind's Eye", which came out a year earlier. My recommendation is to leave this one alone - don't waste your money.

Product Description

Seismologist Alice Bradley is despatched to her home town of Baie-Comeau, Quebec, to investigate why the tides have stopped flowing there. She is reunited with an old college friend, reporter Catherine Rolland, and meets roguish pilot Marc Vandal. It soon becomes apparent that the problems with the tide coincided with a variety of odd behaviour amongst the Baie-Comeau residents, and Alice gradually realises that the solution to the mystery may be stranger than she ever anticipated.

4 out of 5 stars Haunting and off the beaten track.......2005-01-11

As someone who enjoys films that turn our ordinary perceptions of the world inside out, I was pleasantly surprised to find such a gem almost at my back door. The film takes place in Baie Comeau, a small Quebec town a day's drive from Montreal or Quebec City. The beauty of this area was well captured in the film - the town is actually more gritty and industrial than ever showed up in the film, but the spot is gorgeous in a kind of backcountry way. The film takes us through a series of events that are increasingly fantastic, from the fact that the tide appears to have stopped following a local tragedy, to a climax which combines the arrival of the water with a kind of emotional resolution of the tension between the characters. In some ways, the film made me think of Margaret Atwood's novel "Surfacing", another story that takes place in Quebec backcountry, with a similar melding of fantastical and real events, but the two stories are really quite different.

The only scene that is slightly out of synch with the rest is the unrealistic use of satellite imagery to locate a downed plane. The film also includes a small but effective role by Geneviève Bujold, a Quebec actress we see all too rarely.

I recommend the film for those that like a story that is somewhat offbeat, and also for its depiction of this particular part of Quebec, a part one rarely sees on film.

This sci-fi romantic comedy continues on its giddy path as Junta's DNA grows increasingly unstable, causing him to switch personalities between his nerdy self and suave Mega-Playboy. The teenager who throws up whenever he thinks about sex will eventually impregnate 100 women if Aoi, the girl from the future, doesn't undo the transformation she accidentally caused. Complications multiply like the proverbial rabbits: Junta loves Aoi, whom he knows as Karin. Aoi wants to fix Junta up with his old friend Ami, but Ami's best friend Kotomi has a crush on Junta. Kotomi has a problem that rivals Junta's--she becomes flatulent whenever she's around a boy she likes, so Junta offers to help her overcome it. The resulting show is very silly, very gross, and more hysterically pitched than it needs to be. (Unrated: suitable for ages 16 and older: profanity, nudity, risqué and gross humor, violence) --Charles Solomon

2 out of 5 stars No Blood, No Guts. Only limited history........2007-01-09

This title is about the cultural and social! changes took place in Congo after civilized countries left the government to the local authority around 1960's. collected b&w footage rather than a documentary.
Not much blood or gore. Nothing about authentic african culture.

1 out of 5 stars Africa Addio - Bloodily Gutted.......2005-05-09

If you have interest in this film, get the Blue Underground Mondo Cane Box Set (provided it is still available).

Africa, Blood and Guts is a butchered version of Africa Addio which you should get instead. It is a 5 star film and one of the best (if not the best) documentary films ever made.

It was created by Jacopetti and Prosperi who are responsible for the Mondo Cane films. Jacopetti heard of the many extreme changes and events occuring in Africa as the British left. His opinion was that the current culture of Africa at that time was being permanently altered with the combination of both the fighting caused by the vacuum of lost British power and the increasing modern influences.

They traveled all around Africa documenting the very light hearted as well as filming scenes where people were killed in front of them.

Africa, Blood and Guts is a butchered cut of Africa Addio edited by foreign distributors interested only in the growing mondo shockumentary market inspired by the Mondo Cane films though resented by Jacopetti and Prosperi.

If you have no opportunity to get Africa Addio, then maybe this would still be 4 or 5 stars. But with the full movie available, there is no purpose for this altered version.

    GET AFRICA ADDIO!

    2 out of 5 stars Goodbye, 50 Minutes.......2004-03-07

Africa Blood and Guts is Africa Addio with 50 of its 138 minutes cut out of it. The people responsible for Mondo Cane went into Africa in the 1960s to record the chaos that ensued after European colonialists began to withdraw after exploiting its people and resources for years. Africa Addio is still one of the most powerful and shocking documentaries ever made, and is still pertinent (those responsible for screwing up Iraq should take note of its lessons). Distributor Jerry Gross took the original film, stripped it of all its historical context and political savvy, and released what is basically just a gross-out film under the more sensational title "Africa Blood and Guts".

Blue Underground has released the uncut Africa Addio in its uncut version as part of the Mondo Cane collection. Get that instead if you can.

5 out of 5 stars The apparently lost Africa Addio.......2003-02-07

Africa Addio is one of the greatest achievements of documentary film making. It presented a balanced view of the white and black situation in Africa. But beware the picture was reedited for reissue with Sweet Sweetbacks Bad Song. It was redited and they totally destroyed the delicate balance of the original to pander to the urban black audiences. This is the version that seems to be available today. What a shame and an insult to two great film makers.

4 out of 5 stars An unblinking eye.......2002-12-02

Good but not great document on the savagery of post-colonial africa. If you do not want to know the truth about those dark day's just close your eye's and look away, and look for another film.Just remember that the film's visual's are pretty bad and some part's are kind of boring. But where else can you see the naked truth laid out before you? From tribal slaughter, unresricted poaching and just general choas. The last 15-20 min. is worth the price of the film, showing Mike Hoare's Mercenary group in heavy action against the Simba warriors, the only such footage that I know to exist.
