Versatility, thy name is Van Damme! So Arnold cries in End of Days? Hah! In this relentless revenge actioner, Jean-Claude not only cries, but has a drunk scene, suffers suicidal despair, does a little slapstick, and still manages to flash his ubiquitous butt. Which, of course, is what his legion of fans want to see him kick plenty of (other people's butts, that is; not his own). Van Damme may no longer generate any box-office heat (like 1998's Legionnaire, this bypassed theaters to go straight to video), but he at least gives his fans what they want. Originally titled Coyote Moon, Desert Heat recalls that guilty pleasure Road House, as Eddie Lomax (Van Damme) comes to the rescue of a gallery of colorful characters terrorized by slobbering, drug-dealing bikers and rednecks in a dilapidated desert town. And this time, it's personal. As one denizen ominously observes, "There's trouble on the hoof and it's coming this way" for the three ill-fated bullies who beat up and shot Eddie and left him for dead. Despite its desert setting, Heat is an oasis for great character actors who pick up Van Damme's considerable slack. They include Danny Trejo (Con Air) as Eddie's Native American friend Johnny Sixtoes, Pat Morita (The Karate Kid), Larry Drake (Darkman), Vincent Schiavelli (One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Ghost), Bill Erwin (Candy Stripe Nurses), and luscious Jaime Preslly as Dottie the waitress. The director is credited as Danny Mulroon, a pseudonym for John Avildsen, the Academy Award-winning director of Rocky. His career, too, seems to be on the ropes, but he keeps punching with some welcome eccentric touches. At one point Johnny gives the recuperating Eddie a foot massage (didn't he see Pulp Fiction?). And the script offers such goodies as a lovelorn bus driver (Tom's brother, Jim Hanks) inviting Dottie to see Yojimbo, and one biker's plea for mercy from a local tough: "Jessie, we were in high school together. His best flick.......2005-08-24

I've never been a big Van Damme fan but I have to admit this movie is fun. It's another retelling of Kurasawa's classic Yojimbo much like A Fist Full of Dollars (Clint Eastwood) and Last Man Standing (Bruce Willis), this however, is like the trailer park version. It's a little less classy and has nowhere near the same caliber acting. What it does have is Mr. Miyagi, Danny Trejo and a couple other surprise faces. Van Damme even comes across with a hint of self-depreciating humor (probably unintentional) that sets this flick apart from the rest of his stuff. Nobody takes Van Damme seriously, he should make more movies like this with ensemble cast and maybe his career would turn around.

Trash-funny action movie.......2005-07-22

I never stop being amused by some audience demands for great (o'k, good) acting from Van Damme. It sounds like entering BurgerKing and asking for a rack of lamb (and being dissapointed that they do not serve it). For me this movie is attractive enough not so much because of VD character and action (though he is surprisingly funny too) but mostly for the surrounding hilarious characters. Just the elderly Japanese gentleman who gleefully giggles packing yet another body (provided by VD's hero) into cellophane and dumping it into a ravine, would have been enough to enjoy the movie but there are others as well, equally hilarious. I believe it would be the best to approach that movie not as a serious action flick, but rather as a black trash comedy - that everything falls into its proper place.

I Would Like A Date With Ms. Fitzpatrick!!!.......2005-06-04

This is a typical Van Damme action film which means you have to park your brain in Nuetral to watch it. Jean Claude plays an ex soldier who is tormented by his dreams and is contemplating suicide in the desert. Then his motorcycle gets stolen and this gives him the perfect opportunity to kick some butt.This movie is redeemed soley by the presence of Gabrielle Fitzpatrick who is a truly beautiful Australian actress. This actress is absolutely GORGEOUS and I hope to see her in many more movies to come!!!

A MAN SEEKS VENGEANCE AGAINST A GANG THAT STOLE HIS MOTORCYCLE. STRAIGHT UP PREDICTABLE AND UNDENIABLY BORING. VAN DAMME LOOKS SO TERRIBLE IN THAT BEARD, I HOPE HE NEVER DOES A MOVIE WITH HIS BEARD LIKE THAT AGAIN. THE MOVIE IS STUPID, THE PLOT IS SO LAME, AND THE ACTION IS SO BORING. I DON'T EVEN UNDERSTAND HOW A DIE- HARD FAN OF VAN DAMME COULD LIKE THIS! THIS IS A MOVIE THAT DOESN'T EVEN DESERVE TO BE IN STORES. THIS DEFINITELY AIN'T WORTH ONE CENT OF ITS PRICE. IF YOU ARE A VAN DAMME FAN, DO NOT WASTE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY ON THIS MOVIE. A WALK IN THE WOODS IS MORE EXCITING THAN THIS. I'm On Holiday at the moment. Arizona To Be Exact, but I will Rate This For You Anyway.

I recently bought this DVD, I am a huge Wrestling fan, the only reason I got it was because it featured really HOT Divas in it.
The DVD is well packaged, with plenty of extras, such as matches (most of these matches are Bikini ones, not that I am complaining, but it gets alittle boring and predictable thru out).

The Pros- SIZZLING WWE Divas in REALLY TINY BIKINIS

The Cons- Gets abit boring (I watched this DVD about 4 times, and I have not watched it since), Also
the start of the DVD has a WWE 'Don't Try This At Home'Commercial
-You have to watch this, you can't fast forward or skip it.
Also, It would'nt Kill Them (DVD Company) To Sharpen The Picture, As It Is Abit Grainy, As With All WWE DVDs.

Overall- Save Your Money And Buy the New
WWE DIVAS-SOUTH OF THE BOARDER DVD, As it is much better than this one.

Now red sun must not be known by anybody but I have had successs with 7/8 of the movies I have bought from them and had 1 problem with 1 of the dvd's. This is the one I had the 1 problem with, and it is actually 3, I will explain.

The red sun version is perfect except for these 3 things.
1.)dialogue changes from english to chinese for about 8 words spoken in the film, this happens at the start and during a fight scene so I wdidn't mind it cause we at least got a glimpse at fu sheng's real voice.
2.)in the final fight the movie switches from crystal clear to the ground zero version I guess for about 40 seconds. This is also kind of nice to compare but with how good the picture is all the way through, it would have been better for them to have not messed up and had 40 seconds of unrestored footage. No problem though.
3.)now this is the 8th red sun movie I have bought and the first one I had ANY problems with the dvd. So it leads me to believe that they messed up and just did kind of a sloppy job.
Now the 3rd problem with this is that about halfway through the movie there is a LOUD beep, it actually kind of shook me up, so I just want you people to be aware of that. But if you look up red sun or kung fu classic, you will be able to find this. It is the uncut version LIKE ALL red sun movies but is only like 88 minutes.

But the movie itself is one of the best ever. It's gritty and does a good job at being a real movie. It's just that Ku feng can make any movie into a believable fantasy, there is not a better hong kong or chinese actor better than him. I should have a full review soon on the red sun version, so look for it, and you will see by exploring youcan get these movies completely remastered and restored with rich colors, no fading, and crystal clear vision. I actually sleep with my red sun dvd's.

So if you are a fan of shaw movies, then this is gotta be one of your favorites. If you want the red sun version which gets a 5/5 even with the 3 flaws, then search for jung fu classic or type in red sun and look under the dvd's.

Kung Fuing At Its Best.......2003-06-14

Avenging Eagle ranks up there with the best of them.It has
a story driven plot, fighting, a villen and more fighting.
Seeing this movie brigns me back to a time where a good kung
fu movie does not involve flying through the air like superman.
Shaw Brothers movies are THE Kung Fu movies of there day.

A TRUE CLASSIC AND MASTERPIECE.......2003-01-03

I have written soem reviews of other Shaw Brothers and Venoms films that I liked, but this one really caught me by surprise.

This is one of the Finest Films Every Made.

The acting and story are far superior to many movies of this genre and it is a timeless story that offers superior escapeism and entertainment value while pushing a very strong moral message throughout the movie.

Ti Lung gives the performance of a Lifetime as Chee Min Sing. His familiar name is Kow Chu, and he is a man trapped by fate and destiny who finds honor and truth in his life only after undergoing a terrible lifetime of violence and pain.

Alexander Fu-Sheng, also gives a tour de force performance and this actor was in other films with Ti Lung. Sadly, Alexander was killed in a car accident, and his light was taken from us. He is very impressive as Chow Yee Fan, a man who has lost everything and who finds himself united with Chee Min Sing.

The two become close friends and you have to feel that they must have been this close in real life as they seem 100% honest as friends joking and telling each other personal details about thier lives. Well, Chee Min Sing does more telling, but the ending revelas a lot of shocking information to us.

Alexander is a highly moral man who recited poetry of the time about old men who are forced from their homes to fight wondering if they will ever return, and fighting alongside his new friend facing death from many enemies.

The end of this film will have the hair on the back of your neck standing up. A series of fight sequences leads us to a finale that has us questioning everything we have seen up to this point.

This reviewer will NOT spoil the ending for you, but it will blow you away ! One of the finest ending I have ever seen in Any movie from any genre !

Ti Lung has an Eternal Fan in ME after this film. It also helped me understand the Better Tommorrow Series character he played much better then when I watched them before this film which he starred in many years earlier.

This one you can watch over and over, it is so wonderful.

Great movie--Bad DVD.......2002-06-20

Avenging Eagle is a great movie, one of my all-time favorites. Classic themes of redemption and revenge intertwined through the main characters. NB: this movie has a plot that actually carries the action. All that and great performances by Ti Lung, Fu Sheng, and many other Shaw Brothers favorites.

Unfortunately, the DVD I received from Amazon looks as though someone put a camera up to a TV and recorded it. The picture is blurry and the colors are dim. I got another Shaw Brothers DVD at the same time and it looks great. So for now, I'll probably stick to the version I taped off the TV 18 or so years ago--at least until the remastered versions hit the market.

Has great story line and the Devil Blades Rule!.......2002-02-04

Chi (Ti Lung) a member of the Eagles, a ruthless killing squad. Is forced to kill a pregnant woman. He decides he no longer wants to be part of the killing and runs away, he passes out while making his way through the desert where he is found and helped out by a stranger (Fu Sheng). He and the stranger become friends while defending themselves from his old gang who want to kill him. He and his new friend set out to destroy the evil gang. Chi plagued by guilt is convinced that the only way he can undo his wrong is to die at the hand of the pregnant woman's husband.

The DVD quality is what is you can expect from from a dubbed VCR tape to DVD. This is quite normal for a movie of this type and any true kung fu movie collector wouldn't worry about this.

I rate movies based upon the content, the actors, and costumes and humour. The quality of the DVD has little to do with how I rate these types of movies.
This type of movie is nothing like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon or Iron Monkey. If your looking for movies like that don't bother watching this.

Comprehensive overview of a fascinating place.......2000-03-13

This tape has just about all you might want to know about Death Valley--Geology, Geography, History, Climatology, History, and Scenery. It addition, it has some stunning views of the Valley. The original was filmed in High Definition, and it shows in the crisp imagery of this work. Also, the DVD medium perfectly suits the location--with its stability of color even for the bright, strong reds and golds of the location.

Product Description

The marriage of Paul and Annie Farrell was crumbling. After eight years, the relationship has lost its spark. Paul's job takes up most of his waking hours leaving Annie hungry for attention and some sort of social life with her own husband. Annie finally decides she can't take it anymore and presents Paul with divorce papers. Paul is shocked and claims he had no idea of her feelings that he's neglected. Out of desperation to save his marriage, Paul plans a trip to an isolated place at the river where he proposed to Annie on one of their hiking trips. On the way through the Desert his truck dies and the trip turns out to be one big disaster. The walk through the desert in search of a road leaves the two battling and insulting one another, validating their loss of love for one another. The two approach a turnout on a lone desert highway where Annie is abducted when Paul steps away after an argument. Paul sets out to find his wife and becomes a suspect under suspicious circumstances. He must now prove his innocence to detectives who find his story to be orchestrated.
