To paraphrase the Green Goliath himself, Buena Vista's Incredible Hulk DVD is a smash, providing 83 minutes of exciting sci-fi with enough action to satisfy Hulk novices, and scripting that hews to its Marvel Comics origin to please longtime devotees. The DVD compiles the first four episodes of the 1996-97 animated series, which outline the Hulk's origins, as well as the struggles of his human alter ego, Bruce Banner, to rid himself of the creature. The episodes also make fine use of Marvel's rosters of heroes and villains; in the two-part "Return of the Beast," the Hulk tangles with the Leader, the Gargoyle, and the hideous Abomination, while in "Raw Power," he's up against the malevolent ZZZAX; and in "Helping Hand, Iron Fist," he goes mano-a-mano with Iron Man and War Machine. Terrific performances (TV Hulk Lou Ferrigno provides the creature's voice) and extensive extras make this DVD a must-have for comic and cartoon aficionados. --Paul Gaita

The Hulk at its best!.......2007-05-15
While season one of The Incredible Hulk was rushed by CBS and at times stumbled in trying to find its groove, season two establishes a formula that remains constant for the duration of season two's 22 episodes.
Gone are the days of Banner getting his butt kicked, or being tied up and thrown into a pit, or combine, or wrestling cage. Instead, Banner's life is threatened maybe once or twice this season, and the majority of these episodes deal with Banner helping someone in peril: a woman with a debilitaing illness (Married), an alcoholic (Alice in Disco Land), and a derranged writer (No Escape).
While most of the episodes end with The Hulk exacting revenge on several of his tormentors, "A Child In Need" focuses on one individual whom The Hulk teaches quite a lesson. An episode leftover from season one, "A Child in Need" was almost not aired by CBS at the time due to its rather sensitive content (child abuse). In the end, The Hulk gives the episode's antagonist a taste of his own medicine. No multiple bad guys, no police, just The Hulk and his adversary mono y mono. The end result is perhaps the most powerful scene in the entire five year run of the show that still strikes an emotional cord 30 years later.
The only real less than stellar episodes for the season are "Wildfire," "A Solitary Place," and the season finale "Vendetta Road." By the end of this season, The Hulk's TV popularity was unquestionable. Although there are some exceptional episodes from seasons three and four, this was as good as The Hulk would get as far as overall season quality goes. For the 1979-80 season, the writers began to tinker with the formula, and the results were sometimes less than spectacular.
The complete second season is awesome, can't wait for the third!!!!.......2007-04-30
I loved watching the Incredible Hulk when I was a kid, and it is awesome that the complete seasons are now being made available. It was worth the wait, and I hope that future seasons will be released sooner.
hulk fan .......2007-04-26
Second Season is argubly the strongest. The episodes deal with social issues such as terminal illness, mental illness, alcohol, child abuse, and race. Some of best episodes from season two are A Child In Need, Alice In Discoland, Killer Instinct, The Haunted, Married and Mystery Man.
I look forward to the release of this in July.

Product Description
" Don t make me angry. You wouldn t like me when I m angry." Mild-mannered research scientist David Banner (Emmy nominee Bill Bixby) finds he must offer this heroic warning after exposure to gamma radiation transforms him into the terrifying and enraged Hulk (Lou Ferrigno). Bursting from comic book pages into this 4-disc DVD set, the Complete First Season of The Incredible Hulk boasts all ten heart-pounding episodes, plus a preview episode from Season Two. Must-see bonus materials include the two original feature-length films, an introduction from The Hulk himself (Ferrigno), and in-depth commentary from producer Kenneth Johnson. Intense. Immense. Incredible!

One of the best television adaptations of a comic book, The Incredible Hulk (1978-82) lent gravity and pathos to the fantastic premise--an experiment gone wrong causes a scientist to transform into a giant creature whenever he becomes angry--established in the popular Marvel Comics series. The network version stripped away the Hulk's outlandish foes (as well as his rudimentary speech) and instead focused on the loneliness of his human alter ego, David Banner (well played by the late Bill Bixby), as he traveled across the United States in search of a cure for his affliction as well as an escape from a prying reporter (the late Jack Colvin, also terrific). But despite its Fugitive-like premise, the TV Hulk never lost its comic book audience thanks to the plausibly ferocious performance by actor/bodybuilder Lou Ferrigno (whose growls were dubbed by actors Ted Cassidy and Charles Napier) as the Hulk, who handled the action portions of the show with plausibly superhuman brawn. The Complete First Season set contains both of the pilots that kicked off the series ("Pilot" was previously released on a separate single disc) as well as all 10 episodes from the first season; among the adventures encountered by David and the Hulk are a gambling scandal in Vegas ("The Hulk Breaks Las Vegas"), a meltdown at a nuclear facility ("Earthquakes Happen"), and a runaway plane ("747," which reunites Bixby with his Courtship of Eddie's Father co-star Brandon Cruz).
Extras on the set have been the subject of much Internet debate--the commentary by series writer/producer/director Kenneth Johnson on "Pilot" is the same as on the previous DVD release of this episode (as well as the introduction by Ferrigno), and a proposed gag reel mentioned in promotional material has been moved to a future DVD release. The sole fresh bonus material is "Stop the Presses," an episode taken from the series' second season. --Paul Gaita

bill bixby/hulk.......2007-03-31
I had never seen the Hulk when it was on TV originally and was suprised to see the professionalism in producing this series. The stories are good and the acting is good. I found myself really becoming involved in the story lines and the characters. I bought the series for my grandson who is four because he loves the Hulk. However this TV series was a little old for him to understand the dialog and story line. I would recommend it for older children.

Timeless Terror from the Big Green Dude...........................2006-12-31
I remember watching this show every Friday night as a kid for the first couple of seasons. Bill Bixby always managed to get himself into situations where he was getting his butt kicked and other mishaps where his gamma ray induced alter ego "Hulk" had to bail him out.

Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno, stars of the late '70s, live-action television series The Incredible Hulk, cap a run of sporadic TV movies based on the old show with Death of the Incredible Hulk. The gloomy title says it all. Bixby's Dr. David Banner, spiritually exhausted after years of rage-induced transformations into a snarling, green monster, takes a last stab at finding a cure by posing as a retarded janitor in a government-funded research laboratory. His secret collaboration with a scientist (Philip Sterling) on "killing" the Hulk's genetic viability goes awry when a gorgeous foreign spy (Barbara Tarbuck) disrupts a crucial procedure and invites the wrath of brutal terrorists, the federal government, and, yes, the big man (Ferrigno) himself. With death chains rattling in the background, various ironies in the story become poignant: After years of isolation, Banner finds friendship and love just in time to risk it all for a lasting peace. --Tom Keogh

Hulk!!.......2007-06-12
Absolutely awesome! I highly reccomend this to all Hulk enthusiasts. The Hulk lives on forever!
The Big Guy.......2006-11-10
What can i say The Incredible Hulk one of the best all time Tv series
that makes the movies a must have.
Not an Incredible finale.......2006-08-05
This made for T.V movie may pass an hour and a half if you have time to kill but other wise I wouldnt recomend seeking this title out on purpose. The whole thing is stale and cheesey but has a flow to it that doesnt bore you to tears, but it doesnt leave you feeling satasfied either.
12 years after the series Bana is working in a lab under a different name and he keeps breaking into the place at night to alter some other sceintists work, when the other guy busts him Bana tells him who he is and then they work together to find a cure but run into a bit of trouble along the way.
So much of the things that happen in this movie shouldve hit the cutting room floor, they where not needed and had nothing to do with what was needed to tell the plot. Nothign is beleivable, tho a series about a Dr Jeckyl & Mr Hide charactor may not be realistic either, but in this film i had a tough time suspending disbeleif and getting into Bana having a newly found girlfriend and the love scenes where just blurghh, things dont make sense like talkign about how someone is family after knowing them for 5 mins or someone put into a coma and having Bana sneak in to bring him out of it for absolutly no reason that is needed to tell this story that has a finale that doesnt require him what-so-ever.
Then the finale doesnt pay off either, infact, I think it was a stupid idea to call this the DEATH of the Hulk when all along you're waiting to see how they put an end to the Hulk... and the way its done left me with a raised eyebrow as they play some sad music like youre meant to shed a tear, but it doesnt work after such a lame effort to build up to something that shouldve gone off like a rocket but instead farted and hissed and conked out just leaving a stink behind.
Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno do their final tag-team effort with the Hulk.......2006-05-07
"The Incredible Hulk" ran on CBS from 1978 to 1982, starring Bill Bixby as Dr. David Bruce Banner and body builder Lou Ferrigno as his giant green alter ego. The television series kept Banner on the run, while reporter Jack McGee (Jack Colvin) dogged his heels. Basically it was a set up similar to "The Fugitive," except every week at some point Banner would have to become the Hulk. The key line was so obvious they worked it into the opening credits when Banner warned the reporter: "Mr. McGee, don't make me angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry." Fans certainly did, even if they never read the Marvel comic books about ol' greenskin. When the television series went off the air NBC aired an animated version of "The Incredible Hulk" as part of its Saturday morning lineup that run from September 1982 to September 1985.
In 1988, Bixby, Ferrigno and Colvin returned for the first in a series of television movies, "The Incredible Hulk Returns." This was followed the next year by "The Trial of the Incredible Hulk," which ditched the reporter character and replaced him with another Marvel superhero, Daredevil (a.k.a. Matt Murdock). Then in 1989 we have what proved to be the last television movie of the Hulk, which makes sense when you look at the title of the film (there were rumors of a sequel, but Bixby's death in 1993 made that impossible). Bixby directed this television movie, so you have to think this is how he wanted to the series to end.
People think Banner is dead, so he is laying low, calling himself David Bellamy and working as a janitor at a high security research facility. David seems to be a bit slow, always forgetting his thermos and leaving by the wrong exit, but he has been there for several months and the guards are used to his slow ways. Of course this is just a pretense so that when everybody goes home he can sneak into the genetics lab. Ostensibly he is looking for a way to reverse what has happened to him and get rid of the Hulk, but he is also helping Dr. Ronald Pratt (Philip Sterling) with his research by correcting his mistakes. Pratt is trying to figure out who is helping him along and is surprised when he discovers it is the janitor. But he understands perfectly when he learns that David is the famous David Banner and agrees to help.
Meanwhile, there are evil foreigners who want to get their hands on Pratt's research and use it to create an army of perfect soldiers. Kasha (Andreas Katsulas, appearing without the massive makeup we remember from "Babylon 5") has coerced the beautiful Jasmin (Elizabeth Gracen), mistress of disguise, to break into the lab and steal Pratt's secrets. Even worse, Jasmin's sister, Bella (Anna Katarina), would not mind seeing her dead. Jasmin gets into Pratt's laboratory in the middle of an experiment with Banner, which means, of course, that the Hulk is going to appear. Now all the pieces are in play.
What is somewhat surprising is that the script by Gerald Di Pego, who also did "The Trial of the Incredible Hulk," turns the last half of the movie into more of a romance. Fate has thrown David and Jasmin (pronounced "Yasmin" and not "Jasmine") together, and they fall for each other. In terms of this plotline that seems a bit of a stretch, but then technically the first Hulk movie (i.e, it was released on video as one) was the two-part television episode with Mariette Hartley as Dr. Caroline Fields, where she dies and we all cry. Clearly Bixby is interested in provoking that sort of response for the end of this one.
There is certainly an element of pathos to the finale of this one, but the big moment is not really set up that well. I had trouble accepting the relationship between Jasmin and David, so I had to play catch up. But then I felt the same way about the big scene for the Hulk at the end as well, finding it fell short of the big finish as well. Consequently, "The Death of the Hulk" has a bittersweet ending because they should have been able to come up with a better way of pulling this off. I round up on this one only because the ending has the implicit Bixby stamp of approval and because the first half was pretty solid.
Best of the t.v. movies...but still not that great.......2006-01-25
As a fan of the original series, I have to say I was disappointed in the first two reunion movies. Trying to incorporate other Marvel characters into the (reasonably) "real" universe of the Bixby series just didn't work. OK, so this movie isn't terribly believable either, but Bixby gives his usual credible performance and the plot doesn't simply rehash the David Banner-on-the-run formula. In fact, as Banner himself comments, he actually gets to SEE his alter-ego for the first time (via videotape). And that's the real appeal of this surprisingly affecting story...not the dumb terrorist subplot.
A sad end to a wonderful character, but certainly worth watching.

Anchor Bay's Incredible Hulk double-disc set offers The Incredible Hulk Returns (1988) and The Trial of the Incredible Hulk (1989), the first two of three made-for-TV movies featuring the Marvel Comics monster hero that aired after the CBS series' demise in 1982. Both discs also include a considerable amount of supplemental material, including interviews with star Lou Ferrigno and comic book legend Stan Lee. Bill Bixby returns as tormented scientist David Banner (in addition to executive producing Returns and directing Trial), as does Ferrigno as his green-skinned alter ego. In both titles, they are paired with other Marvel creations; in Returns, Banner is joined by the Mighty Thor to thwart industrial espionage, and in Trial, he's defended by blind lawyer Matt Murdock (Rex Smith), a.k.a. Daredevil. Bixby's always-credible presence brings believability to the fanciful storylines, and both features have the right mix of drama and action that should satisfy fans of the series and its graphic origins alike. --Paul Gaita
Customer Reviews:
Bring Back the Series!.......2006-12-04
I haven't actually watched these movies since they were on t.v., but I remember enough to wonder two things.
1. Why didn't they bring out all three movies in one boxset? (There was 'Death of the Incredible Hulk' as well) and
2. Where's the original series?
I mean, I *love* the Incredible Hulk. Bill Bixby does a fabulous job as the tortured David Banner. Everytime I watch the scene where Elana caresses the Hulk's cheek and says, "My poor David. I have loved you for so very long..." it brings tears to my eyes. Lou Ferrigno is the exception to the rule that musclemen can't act.
I've only got the pilot on DVD and I want more. Bring back the series! Bring back the haunting title music that almost makes your cry in of itself, and the angst and drama and action.
Not to mention, I was a kid in the eighties and I have a fondness for those wonderful eighties t.v. shows. I own Dukes of Hazzard, Knight Rider, The A-Team and Magnum P.I. I would buy Incredible Hulk in a flash if they came out. Its one of the better shows to come out of the eighties.
Come on, release it on DVD!!
The Big Guy.......2006-11-10
What can i say The Incredible Hulk one of the best all time Tv series
that makes the movies a must have.
The Incredible Hulk in An Incredible DVD Deal.......2006-08-03
An incredibly affordable 2 disc set with great extras highlights two TV movie adventures of the Incredible Hulk.
Bill Bixby & Lou Ferrigno's hit TV series set a milestone for comic book characters. Before that, arguably the only superhero who had a hit was Batman & Superman in the movies. TV movies and TV shows of everyone from Spiderman to Captain America to Dr. Strange had all either failed outright or fizzled quickly. With Kenneth Johnson's drama of the Hulk, the creator turned Stan Lee's green pulp hero into something even grandmothers could love - and mine LOVED the Hulk TV series.
Purists might object to the way the two guest star superheroes are treated and portrayed here. I have no problems with either. Both Eric Kramer (Thor) and Rex Smith (Daredevil) manage their respective roles nicely and have pure fun all the while - especially Kramer who turned an almost stiff, stodgy comic book Thor into a CA beefcake surfer dude with a love of mead and bar brawls. Rex Smith turns in a three dimensional performance and honestly I like his portrayal of Daredevil much more than Ben Affleck's big screen turn. Bill Bixby realizes his tortured Jeckyl & Hyde David Banner character as poignantly as he did in the TV series and the production values for both flicks are top notch all around.
Comic fans must make concessions when their beloved heroes play up on the big or small screen. When film director Bryan Singer toned down the X-Men's costumes for the theatrical film, many a true believer cried. However when they saw the film, Singer was off the hook. These TV movies are NOT the comics we grew up on and so much the better because they've become unique interpretations of them for us to enjoy alongside the classic comics, cartoons or the video games which will be created for generations to come.
Anchor Bay has outdone themselves with excellent extras, packaging that evokes a comic book and even a booklet that at first glance makes you believe you're holding a collectible comic. Fantastic price & fantastic set - thanks Anchor Bay!
Wrong Interpretations Of Legendary Marvel Superheroes!!!!.......2006-03-20
I have seen both films back in '88 on NBC and it was horrendus! whoever was the screenwriter must not read the history of Thor and Daredevil. First, Thor's costume was wrong and his character was putrid! and second, Daredevil's costume is red, NOT black(Ben Affleck did a more presentable version of Daredevil)! and the TV version of the Kingpin was a comic fan's nightmare! So my advice, DON'T buy this DVD, Instead, buy the 2003 Hulk movie on DVD, that will be worth your money!
The Incredible Hulk Returns. The Trial of The Incredible Hulk........2005-12-06
HI EVERYBODY. YOU KNOW, IT IS TOTALY AMAZING THAT A REVIEWER WOULD EVEN THINK THAT THE INCREDIBLE HULK, THE ORIGINAL TV SERIES SHOULD HAVE BEEN WHAT THESE 2 MOVIES SHOULD HAVE BEEN. I WILL SAY THIS. IF KENNETH JOHNSON WOULD HAVE WENT WITH THE COMIC BOOK VERSION AND NOT AS WE KNOW THE SERIES NOW, 2 THINGS WOULD HAVE HAPPEND. BILL BIXBY WOULD HAVE TURNED DOWN THE HULK SERIES. AND OR KEN JOHNSON THE SERIES CREATOR WOULD HAVE ALSO TURNED IT DOWN. THUS... THERE WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN NO DR. DAVID BANNER, NO HULK NO TV SERIES. AND BILL BIXBY WOULD HAVE SAID NO ANYWAY. AT LEAST SOME PEOPLE DON'T EVEN KNOW, BIXBY WAS LEARY ABOUT EVEN DOING THE PILOT. BUT HIS FORMER MANAGER PAUL BRADEN SAID READ IT JUST READ IT. AND THE REST IS OFF COURSE HISTORY. AND TO THINK THAT THIS REVIEWER WOULD EVEN SAY SOMETHING LIKE THAT IS VERY NAIVE. AND BILL BIX BIXBY WOULD NOT HAVE DONE THE HULK IN THE STYLE OF THE COMIC ANYWAY. EVEN RIGHT FROM THE START HE WAS ASURED THAT WHEN HE ACCEPTED THE LEADING ROLL AS OUR HERO. DR. DAVID BANNER, HE TOLD KENNETH JOHNSON CALLING HIM THE NEXT DAY AFTER READING THE HULK PILOT SCRIPT AND SAID. ARE YOU REALLY GOING TO DO THIS. ARE YOU REALLY GOING KEEP THIS PSYCOLOGICAL AND POINEANT. REALLY... BIXBY DID NOT WANT TO DO THE INCREDIBLE HULK AT ALL. HE SAID I DON'T WANT TO BE INVOLVED IN ANYTHING CALLED THE INCREDIBLE HULK PLEASE.MILLIONS OF FANS SHOULD BE VERU SURPRISED THAT THE HULK WAS EVEN DONE TO BEGIN WITH. AND I THINK IT WAS BILL BIXBY'S GOOD KIND NATURE THAT AND ALSO AFTER READING THE HULK PILOT SCRIPT THAT WON THE CRITICS CBS AND US MILLIONS OF FANS OF THIS GREAT TV SERIES. WE ALL WILL NEVER FORGET IT. AS FOR THE FIRST 2 HULK MOVIES. I LOVE THEM ALL OVER THE PLACE. PERSONALY IN MY OPINION, I THINK BILL BIXBY AND LOU FERRIGNO WE'RE EXPERIMENTING WHEN THEY BOTH WE'RE FILMING THEM. I THINK THEY HAVE SOME VERY HUMORUS MOMENTS. IN GENERAL. i LOVE THE SERIES AND THE 2 HULK MOVIES. THE INCREDIBLE HULK RETURNS. AND THE TRIAL OF THE INCREDIBLE HULK.

Universal's Incredible Hulk DVD will satisfy fans of the CBS television series by offering the two-hour 1978 pilot, as well as the feature-length second-season opener, "Married," and a commentary track by series creator Kenneth Johnson. In bringing the Hulk to TV, Johnson decided to focus on its human alter ego, scientist Bruce Banner (here renamed David), rather than its rampages. In the pilot, Banner (Bill Bixby) is haunted by the death of his wife and unleashes his untapped rage in the form of a monstrous creature (Lou Ferrigno) after experimenting with radiation. And in "Married," Banner falls for a researcher (Mariette Hartley in an Emmy-winning performance) who attempts to cure his "hulk-outs." Johnson's solid scripting and direction and fine performances from the leads made the series a critical and audience favorite during its network run, and the DVD--deceptive cover art aside (which features images from the 2003 Hulk theatrical feature)--should again please longtime fans and novice viewers alike. --Paul Gaita
Customer Reviews:
THE INCREDIBLE HULK: Incredibly good 70'S TV!.......2007-04-21
I was 7-years-old when THE INCREDIBLE HULK first aired on television back in '78. It was one of my favorite tv shows next to others like THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN. Feeling nostalgic not having seen the show in nearly 30 years, I recently rented the original pilot episode and, much to my surprise and pleasure, it was better than I remembered. I was especially shocked at how serious the show took itself. Sure, some of the HULK's antics may lean a little towards the campy side, but overall, the television show was clearly aimed towards an adult audience. The pilot episode was excellent. Great story, great acting and great 1978 made-for-television special effects. Bill Bixby does a bang-up job with the David Banner character and Ferrigno's portrayal of the Hulk is very good. Watching this fun piece of childhood memories has now persuaded me to add season 1 of THE INCREDIBLE HULK to my dvd collection.
Very 70's production is this Hulk show.......2005-12-05
I watched the pilot ep recently for the first time in over 22 years! The computers Dr.'s Banner and Marx use are very crude and dated looking. The docs also use lingo about mitochondria when, back then, almost nobody in America knew what that was. Today in this society of dna fingerprinting and the genetic search for our origins mitochondria is almost a regular part of the american vocabulary. The clothes the people wear in this film also scream 70's. Plaid pants and leisure suits!
On other aspects the commentary by producer Kenneth Johnson is very informative. I like this DVD a lot.
Inside the mind of David Banner.......2005-10-19
This is what The Hulk was all about. The subject matter of these two movies present the imagery that you see when David Banner "flashes back" to his past throughout the series. The Pilot episode obviously being the beginning and the "Married" episode where Banner is married a second time and loses his wife once again.
Both movies follow creative and interesting storylines. I found them to be, by far, the most well-produced Hulk movies. If you were a fan of the series, then you will want to see these movies.
The DVD contains some extras. Nothing too special. An intro by Lou Ferrigno and a preview of the 2003 Hulk movie.
THE INCREDIBLE HULK: RELIVING MY MEMORIES........2005-10-15
THE INCREDIBLE HULK WAS THE MOST POPULAR TV SERIES EVER IN CBS TV HISTORY. FOR ANYONE TO EVER SAY THIS SHOW WAS NOT POPULAR IS IS AN INSULT TO FANS AND TO IT'S STARS. AS FAR AS A DVD RELEASE OF THE REST OF THE INCREDIBLE HULK, I THINK IT WILL EVENTUALY WILL HAPPEN. THIS WAS AND STILL IS THE GREATEST TV SERIES EVER TO COME OUT OF A SILLY GEEKY COMIC BOOK AND INTO THE LIFE OF 10 YEAR OLD KID AND ON MY NUMBER 1 SHOW EVER WAS AND STILL IS TO THIS DAY A GREAT THRILL. DON'T MAKE ME ANGRY... YOU WOULDN'T LIKE ME WHEN I'M ANGRY. QUAOT FROM THE INCREDIBLE HULK TV SERIES MOVIE PILOT. NOV:4TH 1977 AT 9:00PM FRIDAY NIGHT. 1977-1978-1982. LONG LIVE THE INCREDIBLE HULK AND BILL BIXBY, LOU FERRIGNO, AND JACK COLVIN
Great memories.......2005-09-12
I enjoyed the pilot, and the series as a kid. I still enjoyed it. I don't ever remember seeing the "Married" episode when I was younger, but it was great seeing it now - it epitomised what the hulk meant to me as a kid - a kind hearted man caught in a nightmare that he could not control.

The Incredible Hulk "Season One" coming July 18, 2006 (PERIODICALLY UPDATED).......2006-03-14
***04/15/06***
DVD cover art has now been released. On the front cover is the Hulk with an angry look on his face. I was hoping for Bill Bixby to be on the cover as well, but Ferrigno makes it happen.
***04/14/06***
UNIVERSAL MAKES IT OFFICIAL!
From tvshowsondvd: "Expect a 4-DVD set with each disc being single-sided (THANK THE LORD...and Universal!). Running time is 11 hours 33 minutes. Video is in the original full frame 1.33:1, and audio is in the original English Mono. English subtitles are also provided. We don't have the cover art yet, but we do know that the packaging is in the slim snap-cases with an outer slip cover."
"the set will contain both pilot telefilms, the 10 regular weekly episodes from the short first season, and a bonus episode from Season 2 ("Stop The Presses").
Sounds like Universal is trying to do the fans justice. (Here's hoping for a clean print of the episodes.)
***04/03/06***
Kenneth Johnson tells that the commentary on the pilot episode will be the commentary from 2003's "The Incredible Hulk - Original Television Premiere". The interview with Lou Ferrigno appears to be the same also. Yet there is still hope that new extras will appear on the release.
***03/31/06***
"The box will include the movie pilot with a full length commentary by Kenny [Kenneth Johnson] and an interview with Lou [Ferrigno]".
NOTE: It is not clear if this will be the same commentary track previously recorded on "The Incredible Hulk - Original Television Premiere" DVD released in June 2003.
***03/13/06***
According to Hulk TV series creator Kenneth Johnson's website, Big Green finally gets his First Season bow on DVD this July.
Maybe "Universal Home Video" has finally heard the cries of the people, considering the only thing we've had to watch of the Bixby/Ferrigno combination is the series "Pilot" and 2nd season opener "Married", 3 Made for TV Movies, and this bittersweet release of "The Incredible Hulk - The Television Series Ultimate Collection".
Universal...please don't "drop the ball" on this one. Give the fans more than just a bare bones release...Get Johnson and Ferrigno to do a few commentary tracks on "key" episodes...find some archival interviews/commentaries/footage with the late Bill Bixby and Jack Colvin (who passed away last year). Restore and Remaster every episode both in the visual and audio realms.
We know you can do this Universal, you know you can do this. To paraphrase Dr. David Banner in the pilot episode..."Universal, don't make us angry, you wouldn't like us when we're angry".
***Fans, buy Season 1 to ensure we get the remaining four***
All kidding aside...Thank you Universal for finally releasing this fantastic TV series to DVD.
Fun collection with no extras...and overpriced........2006-02-11
Growing up reading the Hulk comics and watching the TV series, I became a pretty devoted fan. Something about how a guy who could turn into a giant when someone pissed him off seemed pretty cool to me:) At the same time, the live-action series brought some humanity to the comic book character. Imagine how disappointing it was for fans to see the characters from this very underrated dramatic series turn into a multi-million dollar mess in movie theaters...
But I digress...
This 6 disc collection of fan-picked favorites from the TV series is quite nostalgic. A few of the two-part episodes are included as well. My favorite has to be "Prometheus", where Banner/Bixby gets stuck between his human and Hulk-self.
For the current price (brand new), however, it seems like kind of a jip. There are only 3 shows (at most) to each disc - Keep in mind that without the commercials, each episode is only about 45 minutes. Also, no extra features to speak of...unless you count the movie trailers on disc one. I can't name the other episodes I would have wanted to see included in this collection...but I know there are several good ones missing.
Still, it's a collection worth appreciating. Bill Bixby was truly a great actor, and played his part in this series with an amazing range of skill. Even without dialog, Lou Ferrigno managed to win cheers and empathy for his work as the Hulk.
I know the dated special effects and styles may seem a little silly at this point...but the story lines and main characters in this series have held up quite well.
Enjoy!

Five Stars!.......2004-05-27
This DVD is a two parter. The first is a Hulk alone story arc and the second half is the Hulk/Wolverine story. But both are awesome. This would make a great gift for any Hulk or Wolverine fan. The voice-overs, effects, and music set the tone that brings the printed comic as close to an animation film as you can get. I plan on collecting the whole digital comic book set.

Each DCB contains a five to eight issue comic story-arc and at half the cost of the printed version, the value speaks for itself. Plenty of extra material is packed in as well: trailers, character biographies, original sketches, a documentary about how comics are made, and bonus chapters (including classic first appearances of the main characters). This all adds up to over 100 minutes of viewable material per DCB. Viewable on DVD, Playstation2, Xbox, MacOS 9.2, and PC.
Two of the best-known comic book publishers in the world, Marvel and CrossGen, have provided their most popular properties to these DCB. Character titles include: the Incredible Hulk, Ultimate X-Men, Daredevil, Wolverine, Negation, Sojourn, and Way of the Rat.
Digital Comic Books have received numerous accolades from the press and outstanding reviews praising this entertaining product.

Buy them all if you are comics fan!.......2004-12-01
I can tell you I was quite skeptical when I saw this....but I was wrong! Each one of these comic discs has a dramtic reading in the style of a small film with comic panels. I was surprised at how good the acting was and would tell any fan of comics to grab these while they last. I don't understand why more comics fans didn't buy these? They are quite good and I don't see why Marvel wouldn't want to make more of them.
As a fan of the Hulk I have to say the producers did do a good job of translating this into the format.
Perfect Combo for People who have been away from Comics.......2004-07-08
I stopped reading comics in the mid 90's. The influx of Superhero Movies (Spiderman, X-Men, Blade & Hulk) totally got me back into the Marvel world. I purchased all the DVDS that Sock Puppet studio produced and I loved them. For basically the same price as a Graphic Novel you get a DVD with over 2 hours of material. I think the format might not be for everbody but for somebody who has been away from Comics this should pull you back quickly. I have been waiting for them to release other titles soon.
DCB dvds are better than the cartoons.......2004-05-10
I found hulk vol.1 to be very interesting.

It's the WRONG Picture for This Item!!! Watch Out!!!.......2007-03-20
Read the title in the picture of this DVD and read the Amazon title... What's wrong with this picture?!?
The picture they are showing you is WRONG - it's a picture of one the 3 less-than fine TV movies made AFTER the series was cancelled - the movie where David Banner/The Hulk meets Thor, and it's just not as good a story as ANY of the shows. I mean, c'mon... the series made an intelligent and successful effort to legitimize the idea of the comic character, The Hulk, and later someone comes up with him meeting a Norse God?!? So much for the legitimizing. Anyway, the "movie" that is advertised here on Amazon ISN'T THE ONE YOU GET! In Amazon's credits and description, they are advertising the SECOND TV movie that came AFTER the original pilot movie of the series, that was later broken down into a two-part episode called "Death in the Family", which was considerably better than the movie with THOR. "Death in the Family" is NOT for sale all by itself, as this ad suggests, but is ONLY available in the "Best Of..." Hulk series DVD set and in the boxed set of the first season release of the Hulk on DVD. So, BE WARNED! Amazon should really fix this blunder, so they won't get so many complaints and returns when fans buy this DVD. A word to the Hulk-wise fans.
This is the 1988 movie, not the 1977 movie........2006-07-06
I ordered this and there seems to be some alternate titling going on here. The film I was sent is the 1988 film with Thor, titled "The Return of the Incredible Hulk," although IMDB lists it as "The Incredible Hulk Returns." This item's description says it's the 1977 version, also listed on IMDB as "The Return of the Incredible Hulk" or "Death in the Family." Just a word of warning to avoid confusion. The DVD arrived in good condition, so no complaints there, but the seller needs to update the description to show the proper year of release.
Confusion.......2005-02-19
Unless I'm very much mistaken, this is the two-part episode that became "Death in the Family" in the show's first season; one clue is that Alan J. Levi is in the credits, and another is that the year given is 1977.
If you remember scenes like those of David being attacked by a bear and stepping into quicksand, and of the Hulk spewing whiskey into a campfire and throwing a stump or post at a helicopter, they come from "Death in the Family," which probably aired first as a CBS made-for-TV movie called "The Return of the Incredible Hulk" after what became the pilot aired previously. If this hadn't aired under this name, then "The Incredible Hulk Returns" from '89 or so would probably have aired as "The Return of the Incredible Hulk."
I give it five stars because I think rewriting the comic's storyline to address the human condition was a great idea. I'd like to have seen more of the same kind of drama in the later movies of the week, but I suppose Kenneth Johnson had obligations at the time.
Awful return of a great show.......2002-10-16
I'll be brief. I LOVED the Hulk in all his iterations. The comic, and the original run of the series, heck I even give the cartoon on Saturday morning credit.
HOWEVER, this movie [wasnt good].
Using the Hulk to push this spin-off vehicle for Marvel's Thor was a terrible idea and totally ran against the grain of what was a decent sci-fi drama TV series, even with the token appearance of Jack McGee.
The subsequent Daredevil idea in the "Trial of The Incredible Hulk" was equally weak.
Only in the third movie, "Death of the Incredible Hulk" did they come even close to the flavor of the original series.
I would say only the most hardcore fan with blinders on could really appreciate this movie.
