John Phillip Law stars as the legendary sailor this time around as he finds a talisman and sets sail with his crew for an uncharted island. With a beautiful slave girl (Caroline Munro) in tow, Sinbad takes on the evil sorcerer Koura (Tom Baker), who wants Sinbad's golden talisman to complete a spell. En route to the island, Koura brings the ship's figurehead to life to wreak havoc on the ship and crew. Once there, Sinbad and crew must do battle with a six-armed figure of Kali brandishing a sword in each hand, as well as an enraged Cyclops centaur and a winged griffin, and also deal with the treacherous Koura.
This 1974 entry in the Sinbad franchise is a bit of a mixed bag. On the one hand, the film's production values are quite good, and of course the Ray Harryhausen effects are as beautiful as ever. The set design (especially for the scenes inside the cavern) is striking and inventive, and there's Miklós Rózsa's score gracing the soundtrack. On the other hand, the story definitely tends to drag a bit, and Law's indeterminate accent often wavers toward a weird Slavic inflection. Pointing to the film's age, Law and company often tend to look like poncey rock stars with their long hair, beards, and harem pants. That's all nitpicking, though; the action segments, though they're fewer and farther between than in other Sinbad films, redeem the movie with Harryhausen's incredible artistry. It's worth owning just to see the fluid, complex movements of the animated Kali flailing away at six men with her swords. And of course, scream queen Caroline Munro never looked better as the slave girl Margiana. This is rich, well-crafted fantasy fare that the entire family can enjoy. --Jerry Renshaw

A must for the avid fan's.......2007-05-19
Great movie selections, old fashioned camera tricks, if you missed the good old days or just waana relive the memories of your childhood, watching these movies really do remind me of my simple and fun days as a kid.
They're not bad at all, they are classics and worth to be in your DVD collections.
Harryhausen Rules !!.......2007-05-16
It's always fun to watch Ray Harryhausen's films. Stop animation is all but a lost art because of computer graphics. CG is cool too, but there's a nostalgia with stop animation. Save for Tim Burton and the Wallace and Gromit folks, no one is doing it anymore and I think it's so much fun to watch. All of the movies in this Harryhausen set are worth watching. The best one is Jason and the Argonauts. It's also fun seeing that at the end of all the Sinbad movies, two creatures always duke it out while Sinbad and his crew are trying to get away. So grab your popcorn and have a nostalgic movie night with this set!
Harryhausen is king........2007-05-15
The man gets a plug in Monsters Inc. What more can I add.
A must for Sci-Fi enthusiasts.......2007-01-15
My family grew up watching these movies.I purchased this series right before the holidays and it was really fun watching the younger kids faces light up as they watched for the first time at our family Christmas party. I'm sure we will get hours of enjoyment out of this "fantastic" collection.
"All of Sinbad".......2007-01-10
I was very pleased with my purchase. I am a fan of "Sinbad" and was so
happy to get this. It's so nice to be able to watch any time I want.
Any "Sinbad" fans would do well to order this product.

A skeleton grabs a sword and slashes viciously at Sinbad. A 9-foot-tall Neanderthal man fights to the death with a saber-toothed tiger. All the while, the boys and girls in the fourth row forget about their popcorn and are hypnotized by the images on the screen. It's hard to believe so many years have passed since the last Sinbad movie held kids spellbound at Saturday matinees. The movies were never perfect, with stories that were sometimes little more than frameworks to drape Ray Harryhausen's special effects over. The performances left a bit to be desired at times, and the direction could be a bit choppy. What they did accomplish, however, was to give countless 8- and 10-year-olds their first taste of the magic that motion pictures were really capable of. Those grade-schoolers, of course, took with them an appreciation of that movie mojo that would extend to films like 2001, Star Wars, and countless other movies in the sci-fi and fantasy genres.
Ray Harryhausen was the preeminent special effects wizard in Hollywood for decades. With credits that date back to 1949's King Kong remake Mighty Joe Young, Harryhausen brought his creatures to life with painstaking stop-motion animation, with a realism that no one else's work could touch. Computers now do all the heavy lifting for cinematic special effects, and although the techniques of CGI are often time-consuming and tedious, they can't match the artistry and warmth of a Harryhausen Cyclops or troglodyte creature. Too often it's tempting to see beyond the eyeball-dislodging effects of a CGI dinosaur and picture a technician toiling away in front of a computer. Considering the tedious frame-by-frame repositioning of stop-motion figures, something like the six-armed Kali figure in The Golden Voyage of Sinbad is astonishing in the untold hours of labor that went into giving it life. Even more mind-boggling is the fact that it comes alive with grace and fluidity, without a trace of abruptness or jerkiness.
It's always a good time to revisit the Sinbad series, for all its imperfections and flaws. The movies are still tremendously entertaining escapist fare, still capable of inspiring new generations of budding movie buffs to create imaginary worlds with the magic of movies. --Jerry Renshaw

A Harryhausen hat trick.......2007-07-04
For a little over twenty bucks you get three movies featuring two of the Doctors from Doctor Who, some beautiful women, the son of The Duke, and a whole bunch of creatures conjured up, by Ray Harryhausen with all of the charm and emotion he always brings to his works. And in the end it really is Harryhausens stop-motion magic that makes these films worth watching. I grew up on this sort of stuff, and even after all these years I still get a kick out of them. While most films today shoot for realism, what you get here is a true feeling of fantasy. The scripts are pretty much interchangable, the acting isn't always great, but in the end they manage to rise above their flaws and deliver a whole lot of fun.
Sinbad Collection.......2007-06-27
What a great collection. I bought these to share with my children and they love them.
HARRYHAUSEN TAKES THE TORCH FROM O'BRIEN WITH THESE CLASSICS!.......2007-03-08
If I think of a Cyclops, there is only one that comes to mind(I know there were two in this movie). It is the Cyclops in The 7th Voyage of Sinbad. If I think of a fire breathing Dragon, it is from this great movie I see the definative Dragon! Ray Harryhausen has created so many incredible creatures it is amazing that there are some people out there that just don't know what they are missing. The Golden Voyage of Sinbad is another classic included in this set. The least of the three movies included in this set is Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger, it is a good installment showing what a master craftsmen Harryhausen had become! The DVD set has great transfers and some nice extras. This is essential Harryhausen.
The best of the best!.......2007-02-12
A wonderful collection of the old Sinbad movies! Good stars, great effects,
good stories!
Great Movies.......2006-08-09
THE THIEF OF BAGHDAD;is an axcellent movie with a great director.I've watched the movie before since when I was a child together with My Dad.I loved it and as an adult, I wanted to see it again.I now understood it and would like to watch it over and over again.
THE GOLDEN VOYAGE OF SINBAD; This another great movie of how Sinbad and his crew were able to help conquer the evil wizard Koura.
SINBAD AND THE EYE OF THE TIGER;is another great movie when Sinbad and his crew helped to crown Prince Kassim to his throne when his step mother Zenobia a witch transformed Kassim into A baboon.I can't help watching it again.Excellent movie.
THE 7TH VOYAGE OF SINBAD; thou tha story was good, but the graphics were like a catoon character and if you watch it it"s full of fake characters.Didn't really enjoy it that much

Great adventure...cool movie.........2007-04-30
Parents,if you can't find anything for you and the kids to watch because of either being too violent or bad language, then why not this movie and the others that Ray Harryhausen did?? It has cool looking creatures and lots of action. It doesn't always have to be the newest releases, does it?? Show them movies you grew up on or your parents grew up on,so what are you waiting for??
GREAT HARRYHAUSEN MASTERPIECE!.......2007-03-25
This was the first Harryhausen movie that I saw first run at the movies! I was very familiar with RH's older film work shown on TV in the early 60's and was lucky enough to see the 7th Voyage of Sinbad at the movies in a re-release in the late 60's. When the Golden Voyage theatrical trailer played on TV I knew I would be there! This is one of his best films with some awesome creatures! Kali and the Centaur's fight with the Griffin are stand outs, but they are all super cool! A classic fantasy adventure that should be introduced to younger kids who missed out when Ray was King.
A great movie for the entire family!.......2007-01-05
I was pleasantly surprised that this is a great family movie! The acting is above average, especially John Phillip Law's performance. He is outstanding as the humble hero. Just remember the special effects are not George Lucas quality, but for the era in which this film was made, they are very good. Don't miss this charming movie!!
My Favorite of The SInbad films.......2006-12-02
This film was perhaps my favorite Sinbad film and favorite stop animation film. Its fun, I liked JOhn Phillip Law as SInbad. ANd the creatures where my favorite. A great film, with great adventure and impressive effects.
