5 out of 5 stars One of the greatest old school kung fu movies ever and sadly one of the last.......2006-11-26

Alexander Lo Rei stars as a young wanderer who likes to challnege kung fu masters to duels to see if they are better than him in this classic kung fu movie. This is his way of finding the right teacher. It shouldn't work very well but with classic English dubbing and spectacular fight scenes it sucks you right into it for the entirety of the film. William Yen plays a young monk who has a CRAZY master. Yun Sang Ban plays the crazy muscular monk with unstoppable kung fu. So Lo Rei finally finds a master and becomes a monk. Now we find out that the Tibetan lamas want to take over Shaolin. The new leader of the lamas wants to take revenge for his master and kill the head Shaolin priest. Enter my favorite kung fu star Chang Shan(Chen Shan). You always know when the villian is good when you don't even remember the hero after seeing a movie. Unfortunately Shan came on the scene when the old school films were wrapping up and he never really had much of a career. Most of his movies like Wild Panther and Flag of Honor can be a bit difficult to find.

If you want to see a movie with some of the greatest kung fu ever and a lot of WWF style body slamming, then this is the perfect choice. Easily a perfect 5/5 of the kung fu genre.

Let's be honest with each other for a moment. Sometimes everyone needs to see a movie that appeals to them on every level no matter how much sense it may make. That is exactly what this movie is to a kung fu movie fan. The story is kinda out there and involves a young monk who happens to cross a young kung fu fighter trying to find someone who can beat him, and ends up being an enthralling slug fest featuring many different styles of kung fu. This movie although amazingly awesome is also pretty corny and as such has many memorable one liners, some of which you may be familiar with if you are a fan of the wu tang clan. Thats all i'm gonna say. If you are a kung fu fan you habve not excuse not to watch this movie.

3 out of 5 stars Funny as hell.......2007-03-18

This movie is just funny. Memories of kung fu theatre on saturdays at noon rushed through my head as I watched this goofy romp. Ridiculous dubbing, an awful story line and some great martial arts action a la the old days of the genre. The choreography reminded me of a capoeira match where the fighters are just barely missing each other on purpose. I wish I could've seen it in the original cantonese or mandarin with subtitles as the films are always better. Worth watching if you love kung fu flicks.

It would be a gross dis-service to give out details on this flick,,,,almost everyone who review this movie gave it 5 stars,,,therefore, that should suffice for anyone to make a decission to check out this awesome, amazing kicker!!

Three words for this flick TOUGH, TOUGH, TOUGH. This flick is easily among my top 5 best ever kung fu movie of all times,,,I must have watched this flick over 10 times, and each times feel like the first,,it just an amazing flick!!

5 out of 5 stars Allow me to demonstrate the skill of Shaolin. The special technique of shadowboxing.......2006-06-15

Awesome, old school kung fu at it's best!

This movie kept me interested from beginning to end. Fight scenes were well choreographed and the characters were awesome. This is the kind of movie I can watch over and over again.

On another note, I noticed a few lines of dialogue in this movie that have been used in the Wu-Tang Clan album "Enter the Wu-Tang, 36 Chambers". Which I thought was pretty kewl.

Let me tell you about one of the greatest kung fu movies ever.

So the movie starts out with alexander lou going around fighting people to see if they are better than him so that he can learn from them. The first fight is spectacualr but still only ranks like # 6 in this. So he of course beats him and on. He meets a mischevious young man, played by the acrobatic Wiliam Yen(Five Fighters From Shaolin, Shaolin vs. Manchu). We find out the young man is a Shaolin Monk and has to go and steal wine and red meat for his master???? I was as confused as Alexander Lo Rei here, a monk eating red meat Well we find out the whole story after getting to meet one of the most enjoable characters in movie history. The old crazy monk is oh so enjoyable and is played by muscle man Sung Jung Chi (Monkey Fist Floating Snake). And with Lee Tso Nan (Eagle's Claw) at the helm, you know you are in good hands and will get unreal kung fu action and a very well told, enjoyable story.

Now one thing about his movie is that there is like 5 guys that are ripped out of their minds. I don't know who the action director was but all the body slamming was truly extraordinary. Normal, sorry, weakling bodies like ours would usually just crumple up but these people just keep grabbing hold and just literally throw each other. And with everyone's veins poppong out of thir head, you will feel their power.

Add in my favorite kung fu actor ever, Chen Shan (Ninja Hunter, Five Fighters From Shaolin), you have an EASY top ten kung fu movie ever. It is sad that my favorite guy was not in very many movies cause, well, this movie is from 1984, and that is about the last year this old school kind of stuff was made.

I have the digital disc version of this movie. The menu consists of an option to play the movie or go to teh chapters. Picture is not fully full screened, and quality is decent. Sound quality is ok, and of course it has one of the best dub jobs ever. So just remember, Buddha does allow us to study kung fu to beat evil.

I have this version from Digital Disc. It is a bootleg but is more than watchable. It does not appear to be from a VHS source but is poor quality none the less. There is no distortion, it is partly widescreened, but like I said, more than watchable and uncut. It may be bad quality but everyone who I have ever shown this movie has loved it. It doesn't hurt that it has my favorite kung fu actor ever in it(the guy on the cover-Chang Shan), the only guy who could ever challenge Bruce Lee on screen. "We Lamas are traditional enemies of the Shaolin!"
