This attempt to reunite the stars of White Men Can't Jump will most likely be remembered as the movie that allegedly inspired a number of copycat arsons in the New York subway system. In other words, the movie itself is too perfunctory to be remembered for any other reason. Woody Harrelson and Wesley Snipes share their established chemistry as a pair of stepbrothers who work the subway detail as undercover detectives in the NYPD. Woody's a compulsive gambler with a huge debt problem to contend with, and he's also competing with his brother for the attentions of their new and beautiful partner (Jennifer Lopez), who's been assigned to join their investigation of the subway crimes. They're also supposed to guard the daily money train (so named because it contains each day's worth of subway fares), but Woody gets the bright idea that it might be the solution to his money woes. What follows is standard-issue action fare for the mid-1990s--lots of violence, excessive profanity, and attempts at witty banter between the costars to make it all seem more entertaining than it really is. You'd need to be a serious Harrelson, Snipes, or Lopez fan to add this movie to your collection. For anyone else, one viewing ought to be enough. --Jeff Shannon

A COMEDY SO STUPID, IT'S FUNNY!.......2006-09-20
There are those certain comedy films you cannot describe why you like them. All you know is that there is some sort of appeal that you find humorous. We all have them. This is one of mine. The movie will not win any awards, and is not in the pantheon of all time great comedies, but I found the film hilarious. I don't know why, I just do. We are ALL entitled to these little inane comedies.
Sven Sorenson (Marlon Brando) stars as the corrupt warden known as 'SWEDE'. And 'Swede' is a ridiculous, and totally corrupt warden who does not hesitate to murder, lie, falsify charges, anything for that matter he deems necessary. Enter two idiots who are to become his newest son-in-laws. Bud (Martin Sheen) and Larry (Thomas Haden Church) who have been fooled into marrying the 'Swedes' twin daughters. Life is already miserable for Bud now that he is a married man; and he devises a plan to get rich: Robbing the money train passing through town.
Moreover, Bud enlists the help of a reluctant Larry. Of course, in Bud's stupidity he decides to use the 'Swedes' brand new truck to carry out this mission. [The truck is subsequently destroyed by the train] And when 'Swede' discovers that Bud is the one that is responsible, he goes to great lengths to see that Bud is incarcerated in his prison. All the while 'Swede' is hounded by FBI agent Karen Polarski (Mira Sorvino) To be honest, I laughed at all the absurdities of this film. Like I wrote before, it won't win any awards, but it sure had me in stitches. And isn't that the point of a comedy?
I recommend the film for it's silly and inane laughs. Rent the film. I own it. [STARS: 3.5]
Humorous.......2004-05-18
This movie made me laugh. In addition to the comic elements, it had an interesting group of actors. I hadn't expected too much from the film, so it was a pleasant surprise.
One Of My Favorites.......2002-08-27
This is one of my favorite movies. I'm a fan of offbeat comedies like Stay Tuned, FRAUDS, Austin Powers and George of the Jungle, so this fits in my collection perfectly.
Thomas Haden Church really stands out as the dumb, loveable, cuddly Larry Lumstrum. He has an unusual shock of yellowish white hair, odd for him, he has golden blonde hair!
Larry might remind viewers of Lowell Mather from Wings. To tell you the truth, Larry IS Lowell Mather with white hair.
My favorite scene has to be when Larry is stuck in the black Dodge truck as the train is zooming for the vehicle. It reminds one of Marty McFly trying to jump out of the doomed DeLorean near the end of Back To The Future Part III.
Brando has fun.......2001-09-01
The picture is by no means great, but for the first time in decades Brando is clearly having fun here, and there is no actor more enjoyable to watch have fun than Marlon Brando. It is by no means his best performance, but as he chews the scenery, savoring every bite he is a joy to watch.
free money,d v d.......2001-03-04
not one of charlie sheens better scripts.very silly and enjoyable though.i expected it to be a comedy but allthough it starts that way it gets quite dark.

National Security
Although it's enjoyable as a brainless diversion, National Security is one of those forgettable entertainments that denies its own considerable potential. It's a police action comedy in the mold of Beverly Hills Cop, tailored to the buddy-flick formula and laced with racial tensions of the post-Rodney King era. It's set in Los Angeles, where dedicated cop Hank (Steve Zahn) does jail time for allegedly beating Earl (Martin Lawrence), whose only real assailant was an overzealous bumblebee. As fate and lazy screenwriting would have it, the two adversaries reunite as security guards, teaming up to crack a team of violent smugglers led by bleached-blonde Eric Roberts (further proof that this movie's got nothing new to offer). Routine stunts distract from the comedy's mostly untapped resource: Lawrence pointedly riffs on racial profiling, and his prolific ad-libs play well against Zahn's by-the-book straight man. If their partnership had been allowed to develop more believably, National Security might have been more than a blip on the box-office radar. --Jeff Shannon
Money Train
Blue Streak
Martin Lawrence can certainly talk a blue streak (witness his concert film, You So Crazy), but he tones it down to PG-13 for this by-the-book action comedy. Lawrence stars as Logan, a bank robber and jewel thief (nice role model we're supposed to cheer for) who, just before he is arrested, manages to stash the $20 million diamond he has just heisted at a construction site. When he is released from prison two years later, he returns to the scene of the crime only to find that the completed building houses a police station. To get inside and retrieve the precious gem he secures a fake ID and passes himself off as LAPD's newest, and most unorthodox, detective. As he demonstrated on his TV series, Lawrence has a knack for characterization second to Eddie Murphy. But he's no Beverly Hills Cop. Indulgent sequences where Martin has seemingly been given free reign to ad-lib are the film's weakest. Early on, Logan cases the police station outlandishly disguised as a snaggle-toothed, Geri-curled pizza deliveryman. You'd think the last thing his character would want to do is call attention to himself. Lawrence is at his best in the scenes in which, thanks to all those years of breaking and entering, his formerly lawless character proves to be a natural at cracking burglary cases. Logan is paired with the requisite white partner, Carlson (Luke Wilson), a buttoned-up rookie. Departing from the Lethal Weapon, buddy-movie playbook, they are not antagonists; theirs is more a teacher-mentor relationship. "Don't we need a warrant to do that?" Carlson asks Logan at one point. "We don't even need a key," Logan responds, picking a lock. There is little in Blue that is remotely fresh, but Lawrence fans, who watched him play it straight opposite Murphy in Life, will relish the opportunity to see him get down with his bad self. --Donald Liebenson

Anaconda
This giant-man-eating-snake-in-the-jungle thriller definitely scores points as a guilty pleasure, especially with Jon Voight hamming it up as the monster-poacher. He makes life miserable for a team of documentary filmmakers on the Amazon river. Anaconda is one of those movies that exists for no other reason than to give computer animators a chance to strut their stuff with a new digital beastie, and they don't disappoint. It's a lot of fun to watch the mega-snake scarf down its victims and--in the case of Voight--regurgitate 'em right back up again, all covered in gooey digestive juices. You might wonder why Eric Stoltz, who plays Dr. Steven Cale, showed up for a role that requires him to be off-screen for most of the movie, but hey--when it comes to big snake movies, you might as well put your brain on hold and sit back for the slimy ride. --Jeff Shannon

Customer Reviews:
Great old school movie. .......2007-01-07
Not much to say here but, J to the LO
since when did wesley and woody become lovers?.......2006-02-08
take 2 ugly men and toss in an overhyped horrible singer/actress and youve got another razzie.minus j-lo and this might have been a 2 star movie.
moronic.......2005-12-07
the script is garbage...as if they made it up as they were going along ( the amount of production goofs prove it).....even a golf ball knows you can stop a train by killing the power to the third rail...the subway chase scene ?...catching a train on a motorcycle ?...the two trains ramming at high speed ? ugh hello !!!this movie was a complete waste of time and to be avoided at all costs......if your into trains by any means, dig into the archives and discover "the taking of pelham one two three"
white man can't jump and passenger 57 join again this time n $ train with jlo .......2005-08-25
da chemistry between woody and wesley was just as good as white man can't jump they did some thing different and move from da pacific coast 2 da east coast this time it was over money and a girl jlo she used woody 2 get wesely snipes n this movie which caused da relationship between woody and wesely as half brothers 2 split up 4 a while until they was n da train and had no choice but 2 work together 2 save da money n da train robert blake was annoyin me throughout da movie as da supervisor cop he would always blame wesely and woody 4 making a careless error but at da end u got his by gettin double punched by woody and wesely but i have 2 admit jlo may not being da prettiest pureto rican n da world but she does have a kind of sexy appeal and she has a nice body so that helps u out in this movie i glad this movie took place in nyc because it is one of my favorite cities n da world and on christmas time da movie doesn't get any better
Funny Action, but too old.......2004-05-21
Three great actors in this somewhat offensive action comedy that had good parts and bad. Nontheless it is a definite looker, and is really worth watching. I liked it and i'm sure you'll love it too. A great mild action movie with big stars who knows how to act.
