A boy (Jesse Bradford) and his yellow Labrador are marooned on a wilderness island in British Columbia and must find their way home through uncharted forests. Director Philip Borsos has a nice eye for those Ansel Adams-like moments--but scenery only carries a movie so far and this movie asks too much. Disappointing.......2007-01-12

I love dogs and I really wanted to love this film. Unfortunately I didn't find it quite as satisfying at most of the reviewers. Can't quite put my finger on it, but perhaps I didn't find the characters as likeable or convincing as some who saw this. Even the dog was not that interesting for some reason; perhaps not one of the more attractive breeds. Also it seemed that they didn't spend enough time developing the bond between the boy and the dog. (The movie is short; not even 1 1/2 hours.) It's a great family movie and I think it is more suitable for young children than older ones who may find it boring. The younger ones might be a little upset near the end when the dog can't be rescued, but don't worry as it has a happy ending. It's an okay movie, but I expected a lot more. I like movies that BOTH kids and adults can enjoy (like Shrek II). This is definately one mainly just for the kids. So many things that kids can't or shouldn't watch. This is one that anyone can watch, which is a big plus. Probably would have been better as a TV movie and would easily fit in a 2-hour timeframe with plenty of time for commercials.

HEARTWARMING FAMILY FILM.......2006-08-07

Young Jesse Bradford gives a heartwarming performance as Angus, a young lad who adopts a labrador and names it Yellow Dog. On a sailing trip with father Bruce Davison (effective in a non-typical role), he and the dog are thrown overboard and faced with surviving in uncharted Pacific Northwest. Mimi Rogers plays Angus' mother, and the parents' dedication in believing their son is still alive is touching as well. Although the movie doesn't give us a lot of "adventures" with the boy and his dog, it nonetheless focuses on Angus' survival skills and the devotion of his dog. One particularly poignant scene involves a rabbit. Early in the film, Bradford and his buddies are chasing a rabbit and he has the opportunity to kill it with his slingshot but upon seeing the cute little thing, he scares it away. When he is lost, a rabbit is once again caught by the dog and Angus realizes the difference between hunting for play and for survival. An enjoyable family film.

Movies About Dogs.......2006-08-06

This may be the best dog movie I have ever seen. On an equal or better par with Old Yeller. A terrific bond between a boy and his dog and fantastic faith in survival for both. Scenery
is fantastic and acting is above par.

Awesome Dog Movie.......2006-07-31

You don't have to own a Yellow Lab to absolutley love this movie, but true dog lovers will find it irrestible. A young boy takes in a lost Yellow lab, and despite his parents reservations allow him to keep the dog. The boy and the dog become very close and forge a bond that is put to the test when they are lost in boat accident and end up stranded on a remote island. The dog stays by the young boy's side as they struggle to survive, find food, and battle a pack of wolves. All this happens while his parents and the coast guard desperately search for him.
After many weeks pass the Coast Guard believes they may never be found, but the dog and the boy do survive as they gain strength through each others love and devotion. It has an unusual ending, which I don't want to spoil, but Yellow Dog is one movie, although simple in structure, that really captures the true relationship that a boy and a dog can have that transcends even human friendships.

Excellent Family Movie.......2006-05-08

As owners of a Yellow Lab, we just might be a bit biased, but we were mesmerized by this movie.

The adventures of a lost boy and dog. Of course the ending is predictable. We knew that. But the story line, the fabulous scenery, the cinematography, the acting, the sub-plots and the adventure make this a must-see movie for the whole family - Preview it before showing it to the very young; they might be traumatized by the scary parts.

Buy "Far From Home..." a guaranteed winner. You'll be watching it over and over again.

I thought that this was a really sad movie. Drew was obviosly showing a darker side of herself in this one. She was very melancholy in a time when the world was ready for such dark moods. I really believe she had a very good Executive producer that obviously was able to bring out a very woody performance. She must drive a boxy car, and I think she ate a lot of popcorn at one time. Her co stars were very much on the forefront of a new type of acting this time around, very much the Marilyn Monroe sub creature, Miss Tweety bird is quite pretty in her role as a dress you up type linoleum person. I do believe that you will find her performance in this VHS, the same as you would on DVD. Being Drews manager has been a hard task. Good movie.......2004-04-22

This movie does several things pretty well. First, Drew Barrymore's character is really well drawn. She's sensitive, consumed by her own emotions, and, well, horny. Unlike the teenagers in so much of today's cinema, Drew's character has a total lack of attitude, she's fueled by feelings, not cliches. This is all done in a subtle way, and that makes her very likable and sympathetic. Also, the "far from home" atmosphere is created nicely. You really do feel as if you're in the last place on earth, with all these oddball characters either trying to get out or else slowly losing their sanity from the isolation and desolation. These things contrast well and give the film a really uneasy feeling. The totally naive girls put in a dangerous place - but of course she doesn't know it's dangerous. It could so easily descend into melodrama, but it doesn't because of the skillfulness with which it is crafted. The other characters are also well done - everyone has a very definite personality and they all add together to create the atmosphere - exactly what you might expect to find in such a place, but of course you've never thought about it before because who would want to?

Overall, an effective film.

I bought this movie 'cause I'm a big fan of Drew, luckily I liked it! Drew was such a good actress even then and she looked gorgeous! The movie is really exciting and the ending is very surprising. If you're a fan of Drew you'll definitely like it and if you're a fan of thrillers you'll like it as well!

this is a very good b movie. i first saw it on cable years ago.
this is the movie that sold me on drew barrymore. its kind of a creepy movie yet a very good plot.drew is more sexy in this movie than anything ive ever seen her in.she is smokin' hot.to bad she didnt show more skin than she did but its well worth wacthing just to see her in a high cut t shirt.shes definantly eye candy in this movie. i highly recomend this movie to anyone that likes drew she is hot in this one !

A very good movie, wrongly crucisfied by the critics. I was on the edge of my seat watching this film, and you could never tell what was going to happen. Drew Barrymore proved in this film she was going to be the great actress she turned out to be.

As Told By Ginger is one Nickelodeon's lesser known Nicktoons. Yet it combines some of the finest animation from the Klasky-Csupo studios (Rugrats, All Grown Up) with often clever writing from the independent series creator Emily Kapnek. ATBG gives a fresh take on the classic 'girl-in-junior-high' theme.
With this package you get two of the series tv-movies (aka Nickflicks) and a few episodes from the first season. Of the two, 'The Wedding Frame' is definitely the better one. Not only do you get the series finale (with a vintage Ginger surprise ending) but also two strong episodes with 'Stealing First' and the character-defining 'Dare I, Darren'.
'Far From Home' has a strong start but the script loses track halfway through the movie. But you also get the series first-ever episode 'Ginger The Juvey', which gives a great introduction to the main cast.
In short: a must-have for all fans and anyone who thinks a US animated series has to be either cartoonish junk or overly sappy melodrama.

This episode of Ginger was aired on Nick many times. Ginger finds out that she was accepted to a boarding school in the mountains. Everyone around her is very sad. Especially Dodie. Ginger meets new people at this boarding school, & even gets a new look. While Ginger is away Daron finds out he has feelings for her. He journy's up to Ginger;s boarding school. In the end Ginger find's daron, they kiss, & a new relationship is formed.
