For devoted fans and nonfans alike, Spider-Man offers nothing less--and nothing more--than what you'd expect from a superhero blockbuster. Having proven his comic-book savvy with the original Darkman, director Sam Raimi brings ample energy and enthusiasm to Spidey's origin story, nicely establishing high-school nebbish Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) as a brainy outcast who reacts with appropriate euphoria--and well-tempered maturity--when a "super-spider" bite transforms him into the amazingly agile, web-shooting Spider-Man. That's all well and good, and so is Kirsten Dunst as Parker's girl-next-door sweetheart. Where Spider-Man falls short is in its hyperactive CGI action sequences, which play like a video game instead of the gravity-defying exploits of a flesh-and-blood superhero. Willem Dafoe is perfectly cast as Spidey's schizoid nemesis, the Green Goblin, and the movie's a lot of fun overall. It's no match for Superman and Batman in bringing a beloved character to the screen, but it places a respectable third. --Jeff Shannon

Way to go Disney!.......2007-07-02
The picture quality and sound quality of this movie are amazing on Blu-Ray! Way better than I had hoped, I show it to anyone who does not know what Blu-Ray is or ask me is there a difference on Blu-Ray!
The Uncompressed audio track is a Hundred times better than Dolby Digital, the movie comes alive!
Great movie!.......2007-07-01
I must say I like the second part better than the first one. The story and characters were amazing. Uncompressed sound is heaven so use a surround sound system! The graphics were pretty good and overall it's a great movie to watch and to collect on Blu ray.
Blu-Ray Heaven.......2007-06-30
The video transfer on this BD is definitely one that would be classed as reference material. I have watched it a few times now with my PS3 set to 1080P feeding my JVC HD1 1080P projector and the picture quality is the bees knees.
Even with my ageing Denon AVR-2802 I can quite clearly hear the quality of the audio. I am expecting to take delivery of the new Onkyo 875 in the next few weeks which I am sure will give me a better idea of how good the audio transfer really is. Suffice to say that with my current equipment I believe the audio transfer is up there with the best available.

This movie is stunning, If you need a firmware update, do it, it's easy and free. Then rate the movie. The 2 pirate movies are outstanding. Disney did an excellent job and I can't wait for pirates 3!

Spiderman PG-13
Sam Raimi
This movie is about an ordinary boy named Peter Parker who is played by Toby Maguire gets the unexpected when a spider bite changes life. Later that day Peter's dad also gets the unexpected when he was testing a formula on him for the air force but something went wrong. When Peter finds out he has to defeat he green goblin learns what his uncle Ben said to Peter before he got shot with great power comes great responsibility. Peter also must protect M.J. who gets in a lot of trouble. Now Spider man must save New York City from the green goblin.
I think that this greatly written movie deserves a two thumbs up and I would rate this movie a 9/10.
This movie was really great but should not be seen by like really young kids because there was little to much violence for those kinds of kids.
spider manspider man.......2007-06-12
SPIDER-MAN
In the beginning of the movie Spider-man, a nerdy kid named Peter Parker got bit by a spider during a field trip to a museum / lab. The spider gave him special powers. He was able to climb walls, and squart webs. Then he started making costumes. After that he looked for cars to buy in the news paper. But, he needed to fine a way to get the money. He found a way it was wrestling the prize was $3000 if you can last 3minutes in the ring with Bone Saw. Spider-man (Peter Parker) won in 2minutes. There for he ended up getting $100. At the same time Peter was getting the money a robber came in and stole all the money. He killed Uncle Ben for the car. Spider-man follwed him to a building the robber backed up fell out of a window and ended dieing. Peter made a new costume, and later in the movie he met the green goblin. When Aunt May, Mary Jane, a Peter Parker, Harry, and his father Norman Osborn were eating a big dinner, the green goblin found out Spider-Man was Peter Parker. IN the end when the green goblin died Peter Parker saw that he was Norman Osborn.
I thought that this was a very good movie especially the ending. I recommend this to every one in the world. I guarantee you'll like it.

Great service.......2007-06-09
What is left to say? Amazon's service is great - and the movie was delivered as though I just picked it up from the manufacturer.
Spiderman was not a movie typical of my normal purchases, but I'm glad I bought it. It has a great story line and has something for everyone - even women like the movie. The movie industry has worked hard to make their movies more appealing to a wider audience, and they hit a home run with this one.
Superheros and Comic Gods - Our Modern Mythos.......2007-06-05
A lovely, good-looking and fine-spirited adventure of a boy and his commitments to self, as he passes into adult spider-hood. Spiderman is a modern myth, our hero is the anonymous Perseus, the successful Icarus, masked for humility, or vanity's sake.
The familial threads are touching, and Cliff Robertson's `Uncle Ben' might get you welling at the eyes. The story is well-fleshed and animated, and sometimes, too plucky.
Sam Raimi is so versed in light-comic storytelling that he doesn't miss an opportunity to goose the material good-naturedly. Perhaps a silent moment or two would have added a touch of grandeur.
But he gets so much right, and it's joyous, and so much fun you forgive it it's occasional silliness.
Superheroes in ancient and modern myth are often overgrown boys propelled by a loss of family.. they seek their father's approval and to re-attach with their lost mothers..
Superman, orphaned in space, is nothing without earth, and his adopted earth-mother is Metropolis... Batman was orphaned in Gotham City, the place he returns to enact constant, remorseful vengeance, seeking catharsis for his anger.
And Peter Parker, parentless, but raised by loving relatives, takes flight in the only American city with a downtown long and tall enough to support his peculiar gifts; New York, which he protects, even as it torments him. It supplies both an endless series of potential casualties for him to save and quiet hiding places far above the noise of the world.
Whatever flaws you can find in costuming, line-reading, etc, you'll be enchanted by the freedom and power of his impossible movement...the inspiring beauty of his muscular near-flight, held aloft on sticky organic threads spewed and strewn among the arches and shoulders of his mothering, antagonistic, tormenting, beloved and inextricable city.
Great movie , sound and image.......2007-05-29
It worths it to own it as one the the Sci-fi modern Classics, wonderful F/X, sound and photo, very entertaining movie, great actors

More than a few critics hailed Spider-Man 2 as "the best superhero movie ever," and there's no compelling reason to argue--thanks to a bigger budget, better special effects, and a dynamic, character-driven plot, it's a notch above Spider-Man in terms of emotional depth and rich comic-book sensibility. Ordinary People Oscar-winner Alvin Sargent received screenplay credit, and celebrated author and comic-book expert Michael Chabon worked on the story, but it's director Sam Raimi's affinity for the material that brings Spidey 2 to vivid life. When a fusion experiment goes terribly wrong, a brilliant physicist (Alfred Molina) is turned into Spidey's newest nemesis, the deranged, mechanically tentacled "Doctor Octopus," obsessed with completing his experiment and killing Spider-Man (Tobey Maguire) in the process. Even more compelling is Peter Parker's urgent dilemma: continue his burdensome, lonely life of crime-fighting as Spider-Man, or pursue love and happiness with Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst)? Molina's outstanding as a tragic villain controlled by his own invention, and the action sequences are nothing less than breathtaking, but the real success of Spider-Man 2 is its sense of priorities. With all of Hollywood's biggest and best toys at his disposal, Raimi and his writers stay true to the Marvel mythology, honoring Spider-Man creators Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, and setting the bar impressively high for the challenge of Spider-Man 3. --Jeff Shannon

Liked it better when it was called Superman 2.......2007-06-08
There are so many people who laud this as the best comic book movie ever. I call shenanigans on that. Lifting the excellent plot device of Superman 2, Petter Parker decides to surrender being Spider-Man in order to find love and a life. Unlike the decision made by Superman, where he is forced to change who he is in order to embrace a normal life and find true love, Peter Parker selfishly gives up being Spider-Man to continue being who he was to begin with, a dork with school, girls, and work on his mind. The opening of the movie leading up to the central part of the story work quite well and I applaud the writing. Dr. Octopus' origin and goals, Harry Osbourne's continuing disdain for Spider-Man, and Peter Parker's angst all come across realistically and draw the audience in. Then they start to throw in the cliches and lame plot devices, a clear foreshadowing to what was to cripple the third installment: Peter's subconscious ridding him of his powers because deep down he doesn't want to be Spider-Man, the kid asking Peter where Spider-Man disappeared to giving ol' Parker second thoughts on surrendering the persona, etc. This is New York City. The belief that Spidey's removal would prove dire not only insults the true heroes of the city (firemen, police, etc.) it also stretches the realms of believability. With Superman, the world truly suffered when he surrendered who he was to become someone else. With Peter, it never really makes sense as to why he would want to be Spidey again, especially since his life improved once he surrendered the persona. The death of Doc Oc at the end was unnecessary as was Harry's pause when he could have killed Pete and finally gain vengeance for the death of his father.
Overall this was a fun movie. The best comic book movie, not quite. There is great writing and a good arc, but deep down it just rings hollow as to why Pete would want to remain Spidey.

DVD Features:
The first commentary track is by director Sam Raimi and a self-deprecating Tobey Maguire speaking in tandem, and producer (and Marvel CEO) Avi Arad and coproducer Grant Curtis speaking in tandem. They discuss a number of topics, including Raimi's memory of his excitement over Richard Donner's Superman and how the character of Black Cat had to be dropped from the film. The second commentary is by six members of the Oscar-nominated effects team, and one of their primary focuses is how Doc Ock's arms were achieved by a combination of puppetry and CGI.
The centerpiece of the second disc is a massive two-hour documentary that can be viewed all at once or in 12 separate pieces. It covers the development of the story, the visual effects, costumes, stunts, and sound and music. Three shorter featurettes cover Peter Parker's struggle between his personal and hero lives, Doc Ock, and the women in Spider-Man's life, and what's interesting is how they discuss those topics not just in relation to the movies but to the comic books as well. (For example, Betty Brant and Gwen Stacy had a much greater impact in the comics.) There's a scene in which you can toggle among three different camera angles, and a gallery of 17 paintings Alex Ross created for the opening sequence. The sound and picture are spectacular, though only the Superbit edition has DTS. --David Horiuchi

Ordinary People Oscar®-winner Alvin Sargent received screenplay credit, and celebrated author and comic-book expert Michael Chabon worked on the story, but it's director Sam Raimi's affinity for the material that brings Spidey 2 to vivid life.
Description
Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) gives up his crime-fighting identity of Spider-Man in a desperate attempt to return to ordinary life and keep the love of MJ (Kirsten Dunst). But a ruthless, terrifying new villain, the multi-tentacled Doc Ock, forces Peter to swing back into action to save everything he holds dear.

I didn't know that this movie has it's extended version and when i saw the movie, i kept thinking that this extended version should be release as Theaterical release worldwide. Nuff said.
Spiderman 3.......2007-06-15
Spiderman 3 is an incredible movie with outstanding effects. The effets are a compliment to the amazing graphics!! Starring Toby Maguire as Peter Parker/Spiderman, and James Franco as the new Goblin/Harry Osborn. Which side will Harry and spidey be on joining. Will they reunite or rebel?
Was flint marko the true killer of uncle ben parker?who is the sandman? Many questions only to be answered if you see this movie yourself!!
This movie is unbelievable!! It is the best spiderman yet, I cant wait forthe 4th movie.Like i said the affects arent even comparible to the other spidermans. This is my favorite movie ever! Spiderman 3 waswas released may 4th with a rating of pg-13. It got this rating because of intense action violence. The movie lasted about two hours long.
I would probably reccomend this movie to anyone who likes the other spidermen. If you havent seen them, then if you like action you would love it!
Ok.......2007-06-12
I bought the special edition as well. The new scenes are cool. I wish they came out with this first.

SPIDER-MAN
In the beginning of the movie Spider-man, a nerdy kid named Peter Parker got bit by a spider during a field trip to a museum / lab.

While fans breathlessly await the fate of the computer-animated New Adventures of Spider-Man (it remains in limbo after being dropped by MTV in 2003), they can enjoy all 13 episodes of its first season on this two-disc set, which includes a wealth of extras. Mainframe Entertainment (which created the cult Saturday morning series ReBoot) and writer/executive producer Brian Michael Bendis (the Ultimate Spider-Man comic) give the venerable story a spin by placing Peter Parker (voiced by Neil Patrick Harris) in college alongside pal Harry Osborn (Ian Ziering) and longtime crush Mary Jane Watson (singer Lisa Loeb). As usual, Parker/Spidey must conceal his secret identity while wrangling a host of foes, which are a mix of ones drawn from the comic book (The Lizard, Kraven the Hunter) and brand new enemies (Talon, voiced by rapper Eve). Spider-Man fans seem firmly divided into "for" and "against" camps over the animation, which beautifully captures Spidey's web-slinging, but often looks awkward when depicting everyday movement. Die-hard series viewers and Spider-Man/Marvel collectors in general will be pleased by the set, which includes behind-the-scenes featurettes and commentary by the creators. --Paul Gaita
Description
When a nasty bite by an irradiated spider endows teenager Peter Parker with miraculous, arachnid-like powers, his death defying heroism wins him admiration from those in need. But being a superhero has its drawbacks...especially when you're in college! As Peter gains the trust of his friends, the police call him a vigilante. But he meets the challenge by exercising his wonderful powers for the good of all. Multi-talented performer Neil Patrick Harris (Undercover Brother, Starship Troopers), television star Ian Ziering ("Beverly Hills 90210"), and singer-songwriter Lisa Loeb ("Cake and Pie"), lend their vocal talents to this thrilling, computer-animated version of the comic book classic and mega-hit feature film, Spider-Man.
Customer Reviews:
Great Cartoon.......2007-07-01
The best cartoon series ever done on my favorite super-hero, and I've watched most of the other ones. It's a shame it didn't last very long. Is it an accurate description of the comic book Spider-Man? No, but so what! Neither are the other cartoons, or the movies for that matter. It's really as if we go back to the early days of Peter Parker (which would have been in the early '60's) and see what it would have been like if it took place in the early 21st century. It doesn't have the serious tone of the comics (or movies) but it's not aimed at young children either.
This Spider-Man Rules!!!!!.......2007-05-23
This new CGI Spider-Man is by far one of the best that I've ever watch. The Action in this series is Great not your average Spider-Man that were use to, in a few episodes the Villains actually die which you never seen before. Its just a shame that it only lasted for (1)season on MTV. I just wish it had been picked up by another company and they continued with the series. This is a must own for any Spider-Man fan.
Cool animation, but that's about it...........2007-05-20
What this show does well, it does really well. Sadly, when it drops the ball, the results are disastrous.
The show is entirely CG, but it doesn't look like anything else out there. The world is rendered using relatively simple shading techniques, so that a freeze frame would look like it was in two dimensions instead of three. When this works, the result looks so much like a comic book, you could drop a frame into an issue of Spiderman and never know the difference. Unfortunately it doesn't always work: on occasion the backgrounds look as if they were copied from a video game. A very old video game.
The real problem is that the similarities to comics stop with the animation. The show is a new take on Spiderman. And that take, well... it ain't so good. The writing drags and just isn't enough fun. There are also some huge missteps in the characters' personalities and motivations. What makes it so hard to rate is that the writing isn't actually bad: it's professional, just misguided. There was talent and effort here, but not enough inspiration.
If action alone is enough of a reward, pick this up. There are fight scenes in here that raise the bar for this sort of a thing. Just be aware that this show has some serious flaws.
Also, in case you miss it in every other review, this was made by MTV and isn't intended for young kids.
Spider-Man and His Unamazing Friends.......2007-05-12
Spider-Man: The New Animated Series (2003), which aired on MTV nearly four years ago, was a fun, witty, and well-written animated series. Visually, the show sets itself apart from not only all previous incarnations of Spider-Man's animated adventures, but also other animated series made for television as well. The computer animation on the show purposefully looks 2-D, a computer generated effect called cel-shading in computer generated imagery (CGI), created a moving comic book panel feel to the show. This really gives the show an interesting and unique look. Set non-canonically after the first Spider-Man movie, we see Peter, Mary-Jane Watson and Harry Osborn in college, attending Empire State University. Peter, of course works as a freelance photographer at The Daily Bugle. In addition to his obligations at the Bugle, he also shoot videos of city news events for Empire One, a spoof of the real world, New York One (NY1), a local New York cable news channel (to my knowledge, not being a native of the state of New York). Harry, not taking his father's death so well, yet not written as psychologically unstable as he is in the movies. As a self-professed "trust fund baby," he is independently wealthy, inheriting his father's succesful and productive company, to which he owns a controlling interest in. A big flirt, hiding a bitter and angry young man inside who harbors an intense hatred for Spider-Man. Mary Jane, the strong willed and girly love of Peter's life. She is aggressive in her amorous intentions towards and for Peter, confiding in Harry about some of her love/lack of love issues with Peter.
The action in the series is nicely choreographed. Flexible and malleable, Spider-Man moves with a grace, swiftness and uncanny agility, much like what he exhibits in the comics. One of my favorite sequences in the episode titled "Head Over Heels," shows Spider-Man routinely moving from one crime in progress to another, stoping each crime, saving people, then pausing to non-chalantely write his thoughts on a small note pad. Half the time he is barely looking at the people he is fighting or saving. A puzzled and perhaps curious man, after being saved, slowly tries to catch a glimpse at what Spider-Man is writing down on his note pad. Before the man gets close enough to read it, Spider-Man, seemingly without noticing the gentleman, quickly leaps up and away off camera. Dispite its light-hearted moments the series contains many more dark ones. Dealing with obesession, greed, honor, and lonliness, this series was no doubt in my mind, written for mid-teens and up.
Why is Spider-Man: The New Animated Series worth watching you ask? Besides the aforementioned reasons, I'd like to add to the list of praise for this series - great voice acting.
The voice acting for one is superb. Neil Patrick Harris's voice fit the character of Peter Parker perfectly, nerdy and insecure. While when Spider-Man, confident and witty. The ability of the animators to express such a wide range of emotions utilizing a finite facial palette and body language via motion capture was masterful. What makes this series so good and makes it worth watching is the subtle nuances of the character's voice talent, facial expressions and body language. Some notable actors and music artists lent their voices to the animated project. Michael Dorn, Michael Clarke Duncan, Rob Zombie, Eve, Jeffrey Combs and Mr. Excelsior! himself, Stan "The Man" Lee.
Mainframe Entertainment, the company that brought us the first ever computer animated TV show, Reboot was responsible for the computer animation and effects series. Ironically, Spider-Man: The New Animated Series was already in early production before work on the 1st movie was realized, contrary to popular belief. The commentary on the DVD notes that much of reason and inspiration for the show's conception was due to the success of the Ultimate Spider-Man comic book written by Brian Michael Bendis and penciled by one of my favorite artists, Mark Bagley. Speaking of the commentaries section, they can be a bit dry at times, but are very educational as far as how truly in-depth and multi-layered the creation and production process was for an animated series of this caliber. Many behind-the-scenes elements mirror live action movie productions. Due to budget and time constraints, watching the series, you will notice many of the same characters walking around town doing different things and envolved with different events around the city. Not that that is completely unrealistic, especially when the story and events revolve primarily around the Empire State University campus. Another anomaly about the show is the fact that the order in which the episodes aired on MTV differs from the order in which they are presented on the DVDs. For example, the "original" and first episode that aired, ends up being episode 8 on the DVD.
Unfortunately, Spider-Man: The New Animated Series lasted for but 1 season of 13 episodes available in this complete two-disc set. For some reason, this DVD is not available through conventional retail channels. Having tried several different brick and mortar retailers with no success, it appears this is only available online. This show was definitely a sleeper, existing under the radar of many Spider-Man fans that I know. So wake up and buy it today if you are so inclined.
Not for children.......2007-05-02
I bought this "cartoon" for my 5 year old grandson. It has bad language, but no warning on the label. It is not appropriate for kids. Examples: "Let's get the hell out of here" "kill her" "she has a nice bod"

Venom, the scariest and most memorable villain from Spider-Man's post-Stan Lee era, takes center stage in this collection of five episodes ("The Alien Costume" parts 1-3, "Venom Returns," and "Carnage") from the Spider-Man animated series from the mid-'90s. The action begins when astronaut John Jameson discovers a strange new substance on the moon. The substance ends up becoming a new black costume for Spider-Man, and he's thrilled with the way it enhances his natural powers (such as spinning webs without mechanical web shooters) and can change into a different outfit merely upon a thought. Spidey soon discovers, however, that the apparent costume is actually an alien symbiote that is gradually taking control of his thoughts. Spidey is able to overcome the symbiote, but it finds a new host in Daily Bugle washout Eddie Brock, and their mutual hatred of Spider-Man creates a deadly new villain, Venom, whose natural powers exceed Spidey's. Things get even more complicated when Venom's "offspring" finds a host and becomes the even deadlier Carnage. Also making appearances in these episodes are the Kingpin, the Shocker, the Rhino, Dormammu, Iron Man, and War Machine. DVD features include some interesting comments by David Michelinie, who with artist Todd MacFarlane, created Venom in the comic books. Among other topics in the unnecessarily complicated feature, he discusses differences between the show and the comics. Stan Lee also boards his soap box to dish about Venom (11 minutes) and has optional introductions for each episode. --David Horiuchi

Forgot how good this series was..........2007-06-08
I use to watch this animated series as a kid but I didn't appreciate the writing or plot development as much as just watching Spidey fight the bad guys. Watching it is an adult gives me a better appreciation for the writing and creativity. This DVD is a must buy for fans and an easy watch for people new to Spider Man. The DVD is well-made and the bonus material with Stan Lee is entertaining to watch. Would have given 5 stars but I was hoping for more bonus material and interviews.
Excellent.......2007-05-17
rapidity and seriousness, I recommend to this salesman in a 100% product is excellent
Before "Spider-Man 3", there was the animated Venom saga!.......2007-05-02
Astronaut John Jameson whom is the son of Jonah Jameson was doing an exploration on the moon as he bring backs a space rock with a black alien slime inside of it. When it attacks John as they approach Earth the ship crash lands by the river of New York, a large muscular man in a Rhino outfit named The Rhino steals the space rock from the ship with Peter Parker's rival Eddie Brock taking pictures of the robbery and telling Jonah Jameson that Spider-Man was the one that robbed the shuttle. Spidy has been framed and a mysterious alien goo consumes his costume making it into a special black Spider-Man costume with super jumping speed, can change his clothes for him and can make unlimited webbing thus making him a super Spider-Man as he thinks it's swell. Unfortunately it's a deadly living organism that is trying to take over his personality and his body as he soon discovers and must try to get rid of it, once he does it consumes Eddie Brock turning him into the sharp-toothed big eyed black Spider-Man doppleganger named Venom so he can reek his revenge on Spider-Man.
Another great DVD set of the great 1994 Spider-Man animated series but this time with every fanboy's favorite Spider-Man villain, these episodes also guest star Kingpin, Shocker, Rhino, Iron-Man, War Machine and Carnage. Featuring the voices of Hank Azaria and Ed Asner and good animation with some CGI, this is the perfect appetizer for fans before they see "Spider-Man 3" to see Venom on the big screen.
The DVD has only a few extras like introductions by Stan Lee, a multi-featurette on Venom's origins by the creators and Stan Lee's Soapbox.
Great for kids who are fans of Spiderman.......2007-03-11
This was nice CD my son enjoyed it. Shows the Venom story in the Spiderman Series Cartoon. It is a great buy. You can see the difference in the script back then and now. For instance as Venom Spiderman almost kills Shocker but his doesn't say I almost killed some one, he says I almost did a bad thing. That when entertainment cared about the content of what they put out. I love superheros cartoons and I enjoy watching them with the kids
The Venom Saga.......2007-01-19
Nice collection of cartoons laying the foundation for the Venom character that will be in the Spiderman3 movie due out this year. Suitable for watching with children.

Two Great Films.......2006-03-17
I really enjoyed the special edition versions of both Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2. Both movies are great adaptations of the comic. The villians are great and Willem Dafoe and Alfred Molina both give inspired performances. Tobey Maguire was a great choice for Spider-Man and he plays a convincing Peter Parker as well. I can't wait for Spider-Man 3, especially because Sam Raimi is again going to be the director. He has really grown as a filmaker. And I hope Bruce Campbell makes a cameo in Part 3, too.
Two excellent films for one low price.......2005-07-20
Spider-Man (2002.) The first Spider-Man film.
Spider-Man 2 (2004.) The second Spider-Man film.
INTRODUCTION:
In 2002, the first of the live-action Spider-Man hit theatres. It's not likely that the film's director, Sam Raimi, had any idea just how successful his big-screen incarnation of the classic superhero would be. It drew in huge amounts of money at the theatres, and the DVD releases did the same. The sequel, appropriately enough, was even more hyped, and did even better. And now, both films have been combined into a single set! Read on for my review of the Spider-Man films.
STORYLINE:
Essentially, this set includes both of the films. The first of the two films explains how Peter Parker got bitten by a radioactive spider, and gained the powers that ultimately turned him into Spider-Man. In the first film, the villain is former head of Oscorp, Norman Osborn, who has been transformed into the Green Goblin by a chemical he was testing. The second film continues two years after the first left off, and features Spider-Man facing off against Doc Ock, a brilliant scientist who has gone mad due to a mixture of not getting the proper credit for his work and an electric shock that permanently grafted mechanical arms to his body. This time around, juggling the duties of being Spider-Man with work and school have made Peter Parker question whether or not he wants to continue the superhero lifestyle.
OPINIONS:
Both of these films flat-out rule. Seeing the first film turned me into a Spider-Man fan practically overnight. The acting and storyline are both excellent, particuarly Willem Dafoe's portrayal of Norman Osborn/The Green Goblin. Everything the first film did well, the second one does even better. I was amazed that they managed to create a sequel superior to the original film, since sequels rarely top the film that comes before them - but Sam Raimi does it here. These are great films, and the fact that they're together in one package only sweetens the deal.
DVD:
These are the standard DVD releases of the film, meaning each one has a bonus disc of material. There are a ton of bonus features, including commentary, cast and crew interviews, and assorted other extras too. The second disc included with the first film even has a listing of a ton of the old comic books, and the plotlines of them! That's my favorite extra on either of the discs. The other features are also excellent, and if you like the films, you'll agree they're worthwhile.
OVERALL:
I can't begin to express my satisfaction with these films. The cast and crew have creates two cinematic masterpiece, and I think you'll agree superhero movies don't get any better. Being able to get both movies in a single set makes the deal all the more sweet. These are must-watch movies, regardless of who you are. Even if you're not a big fan of the Spider-Man franchise, you may be pleasantly surprised.
Spidey Rules!.......2005-02-07
I loved the first movie! And the second one was even better (in my opinion)! I owned the first movie in VHS and wanted it on DVD so I when the second one came out I got this double set. And I am pleased with it!
Spiderman fights with The Green Goblin in the first movie. Spiderman has to also deal with moral issues and the Green Goblin is related to one of Spiderman's close friends. Also you start the story of Peter and Mary Jane. In one you also see that Peter's Uncle dies. All of this gives a great plot and keeps your interest! There is more in the movie but that is your main plot themes. Spiderman is very heavy in morals and life lessons. It is also great as a story!
Spiderman 2 was even better than the first in my opinion. Why? I think that the characters had grown and the acting was better I also liked the fact that Mary Jane finds out Peter's secret! Doc Ock was also a strong role. It was great at portraying demons and the hardships of life and loss. There is so much in Spiderman 2. Peter has to tell his Aunt May a secret that will tear him and his Aunt apart. He also struggles with being Spiderman and even toys with the thought of giving it up (let you watch to figure out if he does). Mary Jane gets engaged and struggles with her friendship/love for Peter. And James Franco discovers secrets in his own life and in Peter's life. Makes for a great movie!
I can't wait until the third movie! I know this will be a series I will enjoy!
this is what sequels should be!.......2004-12-17
Spider-Man 2 is what sequels should be! Sequeles are rarely even close to being as good as the first movie. But this is the best sequel ever! Infact, most movies should be this good. It may even be better than spider-man? Since they did not have to focus so much on introducing the charicters, they where able to write and produce a very good movie. It continues Peter Parkers dual identity and the problems he has with it. It introduces the next bad guy in the series. Doc Oc (Dr. octopus) whos evilness spins from his most recent scientific falure. Rent it, buy it, or get if for a gift today! - from www.thebijou.net movie reviews by a fan, not a critic.

The monster-about-town becomes doting dad when he adopts orphan lizard Minilla, the result of a radioactive storm caused by a scientific experiment gone wrong. This decidedly juvenile affair shows signs of the series' cost-cutting measures and Godzilla himself has been redesigned to reflect his new, younger audience, with an oversize head and big, doll-like eyes. This kindler, gentler lizard king proceeds to protect the happy-go-lucky kid from the newly mutated giant insects of the island and teaches him how to breathe fire. Much of the film is played for comedy--Minilla blowing smoke rings instead of flames, skipping rope with Dad's tail, skittering about like a mischievous little kid as put-upon Godzilla tries to keep the tyke focused--and is obviously aimed at Godzilla's enormous adolescent audience. But as always, the picture delivers great monster battles, notably with the mutant spider giant Kumonga. --Sean Axmaker

Go after monster the old school way.......2007-04-28
This movie has a lot of old school fraknstein monster violence in it. From the old trying to take down a monster with the old shoot gun to the flameing torches. In this movie a gropup of reasearcher are in the middle of wheather project. All goes othe than a couple of attack my 15 feet tall prey mantisis. After a malfucation goes wrong during the experment on of the radioactive capsules goes of wrong. They island is incased in a nuclear storm with nuclear lighting a boil hot water near boil point. Shortly after word a baby godzilla is found and attacked by the now enlarged praying mantisis. Now the scientist with aid of a local reporter and young women must make it off the island will avoid godzilla who comes ashore and adopts the young baby godzilla. Can they scientist get of the island before Godzilla the the pray mantisis or a gigantic spider known as Spiga or Kumoga in godzilla conpedium vaporise crushed or devour them to death. Find out in the thrilling conclusion. A word of advice don't spend more than 25 dollars for a copy of this dvd unless your a real godzilla fantic like me or if the positive rate is very high of the copy your intersted in like say about 90% or higher.
son of the gogzilla.......2007-04-26
I was impress with the service.the movie, by the way, is cute. The delivery was very fast, including with a tracking #.Amazon has done avery good job in communication.I know there always room for improvements.but done a good job.
THE ONLY THING MISSING IS THE WIFE.......2007-04-19
It's been said many times that this is the worst Godzilla Movie in the series. Seeing as how Godzilla flicks are never striving for great artistic merit along the lines of The Godfather and The Godfather II, there's no need to call any Godzilla movie bad. Let's face it. All Godzilla movies are bad in some way. That's what makes them so fun. Men in rubber suits and monsters on wires destroying tiny models. Probably my least favorite in the series is the Original, which takes itself far too seriously. Although it scared the beejezus out of me when I was 5 years old. I was watching Godzilla movies in the 60's, folks.
But, I have to tell you, when I was a kid, this is the one they would always show on TV along with MONSTER ZERO and DESTROY ALL MONSTERS. It's so bad it's THE BEST!! This is one of my favorites. The costumes and the special effects are so rank they stink up the screen with an amateurish zipper skin monster movie beauty. This movie ROCKS!! Although, I love the whole Godzilla Legacy. The only thing that maybe kills some of the joy is Minya's annoying little whining cry. WAWA. WAWA. Wow, just as weird as GODZILLA VS HEDORAH (or SMOG MONSTER). And far more friendly.
If you have a little boy. Forget Disney or Pixar animation, this should be the first movie he ever sees. How young is too young for SON OF GODZILLA?
LONG LIVE THE KILL OF ALL MONSTERS!!
ENJOY.
A Really Well Done Movie.......2007-01-31
I have been a fan of Godzilla since the 80s and I have to say as far as the movies when Godzilla is a good guy, this is extremely underated. The plot makes sense and the monster battles are as great as always. This is the debut of Minya (or Minilla), which throws people off the movie since he isn't that popular with American fans. However, this film also introduces two fan favorite monsters as well, Kamacuras (Gimantis in this movie) and Kumunga (Spiega in this movie). Another thing that some don't like is the way Godzilla looks, which was intended by the creators to look friendly, just really looks ugly. I highly recommend this movie to fans of the genre and Godzilla fans in general that have heard bad or good things about. I say, give it a try and watch it for yourself. I did, and really enjoyed the movie for it's very interesting plot and new monster that are introduced. For a children's film, this still has an adult feel to it which makes it fun for all ages. I love it!
Son of Godzilla.......2006-08-25
I have fond memories of watching this when I was a child. Godzilla's son is so cute to watch. All the giant size insects are cool. My son loves it as well. Godzilla is always the star and the good guy to me.
