Meltdown

Starring:Jet Li
Studio: Sony Pictures
Product Type: DVD

Editorial Review:
Amazon.com essential video
When a military officer (Jet Li of Romeo Is Bleeding and Fist of Legend) miscalculates and causes the explosive death of dozens of children on a school bus--something you'll never see in an American movie!--he leaves his position to become a bodyguard for an egomaniacal movie star named Frankie (Jacky Cheung from Bullet in the Head and A Chinese Ghost Story 2, doing a satirical parody of Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee). The star claims to do all his own stunts, but in fact Li has become his stunt double. An investigative reporter (Chingmy Yau, Naked Killer) catches them switching places and decides to do an exposé. From this point on, Meltdown (also known as High Risk) turns into a Hong Kong version of Die Hard, with terrorists taking over a skyscraper in order to steal valuable jewels, as well as a couple of young lovers, a villainous kung fu master who wants to challenge Frankie, and a hip-hop soundtrack. Meltdown is a delirious romp, crammed with as much low comedy and high-powered action as three Hollywood flicks. Despite (or partly because of) some clumsy special effects, logical absurdities, and cheesy plot developments, the movie is hugely entertaining, and Jet Li is in fine charismatic form. However, be warned: though the movie's tone is light, there's some extremely graphic violence. --Bret Fetzer

The love life of a woolly mammoth--handled with G-rated delicacy--drives this sequel to the first computer-animated romp in the age of prehistoric mammals. While the first Ice Age took a delightful premise and suffocated it with a formulaic plot--in which a mammoth named Manfred (voiced by Ray Romano, Everyone Loves Raymond), a sloth named Sid (John Leguizamo, Moulin Rouge!), and a sabre-tooth tiger named Diego (Denis Leary, Rescue Me) helped an abandoned human infant return to its tribe (basically, Three Mammals and a Baby)--the sequel takes the now-familiar setting, gives it a shapeless, episodic storyline, and yet somehow becomes pretty darn entertaining. Faced with the threat of a flood from melting ice, our heroic trio are on the run to escape from their blossoming valley. On the way, they meet a female mammoth (Queen Latifah, Bringing Down the House) who thinks she's an opossum and get menaced by some freshly defrosted carnivo! rous fish. Add into the mix a herd of lava-worshipping mini-sloths, some Busby Berkeley-style vultures, and more ingenious slapstick featuring the acorn-crazed Scrat, and Ice Age: The Meltdown will amuse even jaded adults. -- Bret Fetzer

5 out of 5 stars My son just loves it and have been watching again and again.......2007-06-27

Not only my son loves to watch this DVD, My wife and I enjoyed watching too. This one is definitely much better than the previous one of the series. The story line is very well composed and can tightly grasp the viewers. It's not only a fun movie for kids but also for adults.

I think this one is one of the classics.

5 out of 5 stars good comedy.......2007-06-17

Hmmm..... I thought Ray Romano was the star of the movie? After all, he's the one who played the voice for the main character, a giant self-conscious mammoth. For some reason, amazon doesn't list his name as one of the stars.

Hard to believe, but I didn't know what a mammoth was before watching this movie. At least, I didn't know they were huge elephant-like creatures.

The animation in the film is probably the main highlight, and the thing most likely to grab your attention. Why? Because there's nothing else like it. It's almost life-like. In fact, the atmosphere is nearly identical to the empty and quiet sound you'd hear if you were to step outside and walk through a giant icy land. Every time the squirrel tries to retrieve his nut, you're treated to an eerie silence, with no music playing- just sound effects. Very unsettling sound.

Anyway, despite that, this is mostly a childrens movie. Adults might find it funny for a few of the lines from all the movie stars that give their voices for the animal characters. It's funny and exciting, and that's what a good animation film is supposed to do to be a success.

I bought this for my great grandson for his birthday. I'm sure he and his brothers enjoyed it.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing Blu-ray DVD and Really entertaining animation for the whole family! .......2007-05-21

I have to tell you that I have watched the standard dvd version and I thought it was great. I then bought the "Blu-ray" Version and it is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! Excellent picture quality. But, (don't you hate it when there's a "but") I wasn't able to hear the audio on my Sony 5.1 Dolby Digital Receiver because it was presented in DTS instead, The French and the Spanish Audios were both both presented in 5.1 Dolby Digital but the English only in DTS and NO 5.1 Dolby. But why? that was a little disappointing. So I was finally able to find a way to go to the DVD player manu ( I own the newest Samsung BD-P1200 BD player) and switch the audio to PCM instead of Bitsream. Otherwise, the disc menu did not have an option for English unless you have a DTS receiver.

SUMMARY:

Pros:
1) Funny and entertaining Movie.
2) Excellent Picture quality.
3) One of the very best Blu-ray DVD.

Cons:
1) Price-why pay about $28 for ONE movie, when most competing HD DVD's sells for $19.95 and for $27 you get a Combo DVD that plays on Both HD DVD and standard and still offer and DELIVER more advanced Audio and Video encoding.
2) No English Dolby Digital Audio Support.

James Bridges (Urban Cowboy, Bright Lights, Big City) directed this 1979 film that became a worldwide sensation when, just weeks after its release, the Three Mile Island nuclear accident occurred. Jane Fonda (Klute, Julia) plays a television news reporter who is not taken very seriously until a routine story at the local nuclear power plant leads her to what may be a cover-up of epic proportions. She and her cameraman, played by Michael Douglas (Wall Street, American President), hook up with a whistleblower at the plant, played by Jack Lemmon (Save the Tiger, Missing). Together they try to uncover the dangers lurking beneath the nuclear reactor and avoid being silenced by the business interests behind the plant. Though topical, the film (produced by Douglas) works on its own as a socially conscious thriller that entertains even as it spurs its audience to think. --Robert Lane

5 out of 5 stars The China Syndrome.......2007-03-24

One of my favorite movies! Great lineup of stars; Jack Lemon, Jane Fonda and Michael Douglas. This widescreen version is great.

1 out of 5 stars NOT A GOOD MOVIE!!!!!!.......2007-01-21

I like movies that are about whistleblowers and union workers, favorites of mine include, SILKWOOD, ERIN BROCKOVICH, and NORMA RAE. But this one is just no good at all! It is too violent, the language is terrible from start to finish. It doesn't even deserve one star! Jane Fonda showed no talent whatsoever! I am very glad, that I checked it out of my Library before wasting a lot of money on the DVD. My advice to viewers is, avoid this one at all cost. Just watch SILKWOOD, and consider yourself as having seen both.

Made you really think about atomic power and the accident at 3 Mile Island really hit home.

This is a great film and the casting was perfect. The Jack Godell part could have gone to Henry Fonda, easily.Yet,Jack Lemmon gives a powerful ,unforgettable performance.Jane Fonda turns her political energy, into something worthwhile here.Unlike wasting her political efforts,on spying for the North Vietnamese, against American POWs.The film chemistry between Fonda and Michael Douglass is intense and believable.
This film has the same explosive climax,as Sydney Lumet's ,'Fail-Safe'.I would have cut the last scene-bit of Wilford Brimley's character out.It was unrealistic, and I would have left it with the P.R. man, reassuring the media, that "nothing serious transpired and the plant is now safe.'.Then, I would have had Jack (Lemmon)Godell, being wheeled-out ,expired,on an ambulance gurney. And Fonda and Douglass ,tearfully looking on ,then back at the nuclear plant. The End.Or James Bridges could have had Kimberley Wells' crappy car, crash and smash ,like Mimi Chesterton's Love Bug.1970s-The End.The very final-ending presented is wishful-thinking.If this film came out in the early seventies, people largely believed, that new nuclear plants were clean, cheap, and safer than coal plants. If this film came out in the early eighties, people then believed, that hippies were troublesome welt-verbesserers,misguided and unpatriotic. This unique and truthful film was lucky to have been released ,just prior to the Three Mile Island accident. It got people thinking about, 'Life imitating Art'.As we saw with the Chernoyble Katastropha,it can still happen here ,in America. A chilling film.

4 out of 5 stars The China Syndrome Severely Hurt America's Economy.......2006-06-19

Do you want to know one of the main reasons why your energy bills are so high? It is because of the damage done to our nuclear energy industry by the leftist establishment. Yes, Jane Fonda and her left-wing cronies may have cost you personally many thousands of dollars. Our national economic loss is in the billions---if not the trillions. The China Syndrome is a fictional account of the alleged duplicity and even murderous actions of those running our nuclear plants. These scoundrels care little about the consumer's safety. But how can these business men protect their own lives if a nuclear meltdown occurs? Alas, one is not suppose to ask logical questions. This is, after all, an anti-capitalist propaganda film. Capitalists are mindless thugs who always place profits before human decency. Only hard core socialists and benevolent communists can be trusted.

Jane Fonda and Michael Douglas portray your stereotypical liberal MSM journalists. Jack Lemon is a manager at the nuclear facility who prefers to believe the reoccurring safety problems are relatively minor. The audience, of course, knows differently. Heck, this is a Jane Fonda message movie. Did you really expect anything else? We realize before ever viewing The China Syndrome that the capitalist pigs will likely destroy the world. Well, is this film at least mildly entertaining? Yes, it is. I give it a four star rating. Later you might also want to watch Battleship Potemkin and Mission to Moscow. They may rate among Ms. Fonda's favorites.

1 out of 5 stars Bad Acting..........2007-03-07

This movie had so many elements that made it bad. It lacked almost everything.

So movie is about this asteroid deal that breaks up and the bigger half is headed for the Earth. It missed the Earth but it somehow shifts the Earth's orbit closer to the sun. People start dehydrating, dying, etc. For some odd reason, only a couple of people can survive and try to make it North.

Bad plot. It should have had more buildup at the beginning. The Earth gets hit or not should have lasted a little longer. It all happened very quickly. It was unreasonable that at 139 degrees, the people were wearing long sleeves and with minimal sweat.

Bad acting. It was like they picked people off the street and gave them a chance. They have no personalities whatsoever, makes you lose interest very fast.

Overall, i dont recommend the movie. Bad plot and bad acting. Good to see once, but only if you are very bored.

3 out of 5 stars "Alright...I'm trapped in a building taken over by terrorists. Where have I heard that before?" .......2007-02-05

How great of a film is DIE HARD? DIE HARD left such an indelible mark in cinema that movie producers all over the world have been rehashing its film premise ever since. MELTDOWN (aka SHU DAN LONG WEI, aka HIGH RISK), released in 1995, is only one film of many which blatantly [...] Bruce Willis's action opus. On its own merit, MELTDOWN isn't bad but isn't near the top of Jet Li's best flicks in terms of acting, storyline, or kung fu throwdowns. What it's got going for it is its infusion of mayhem and graphic violence, so if you're into that (and what dude isn't?), then it's good times for the viewer.

The far-fetched plot: A deadly early encounter with a terrorist mastermind simply known as the Doctor leaves military Lieutenant Kit Li (Jet Li) a widowed man feeling guilt and in search of revenge. Two years later, Li is now toiling away as a bodyguard to crass, world-renowned kung fu movie star Frankie Lone (Jackie Cheung), who much like Jackie Chan, insists on performing his own stunts. But, unbeknownst to the public, Li actually also serves as Frankie's stunt double on occasions when Frankie has had his drink on. Frankie used to be a heralded martial artist but has "forgotten" the wushu way and is now basically a craven womanizer.

When the posh Grandeur Hotel hosts an invaluable set of Russian jewels, it becomes the point of convergence for Kit, Frankie, and the Doctor and his gang of terrorists. Kit, at last, has a chance to atone for his blunder two years ago. Can he find a way to overcome the mastermind's cunning and ruthlessness? And can Frankie find his long-missing kung fu? Will the plucky girl reporter find love with Kit? Will the dubious film director be defenestrated? Can Jackie Chan forgive MELTDOWN for making a caricature of his persona?

I don't recall the ratio but it seems to me that Jet Li wields a gun here more than he resorts to chop socky. The action sequences are still dang tootin' nifty, but I guess the producers really were going for that DIE HARD sensibility, ergo more firearms. Jet Li remains a very likable persona and his performance is pretty good here as he plays up the stoic, heroic role. As for Jackie Cheung - you either like his performance or you want to slap him silly. I got very annoyed with his incessant mugging and I personally didn't think he was funny, but I know friends who did. His character was meant to be a spoof of Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee, but I didn't much care for it.

Too, the editing staff should've been canned for the inconsistencies left in. There's a scene in which Frankie uses a shoe as a decoy, but the very next moment reveals Frankie shod on both feet. How Kit and the cop got the car out of the elevator to pull out a surprise on the terrorists is a mystery to me. There are several "people" falling out of the skyscraper who are too obviously fake dummies. See what I mean?

Now, I saw MELTDOWN on dvd, dubbed in typically over-the-top English. I just wished I'd screened it in the original Chinese or Cantonese. As I've said elsewhere, more often than not, foreign movies lose something in translation. There's a chance Cheung wouldn't be as grating if he was presented in his native lingo. But, overall, despite its annoyances, MELTDOWN is worth watching for its crazy stunts and fierce violence. And for Jet Li, of course.

4 out of 5 stars Ten bad guys with automathic weapons? They always miss!!!.......2006-11-20

This movie is all about entertaining. The combination between "Die Hard" and typical martial arts flick works in many levels, but the production values are Hong Kong`s, don`t miss that point.Fans of Jet Li are welcome, but action fans be careful. Here we can find scale helicopters burst in flames, exploding building models, chopped off dummies, you name it. The characters are extreme in their own context: Jet Li is a former military now becomed bodygard and stunt actor, loyal, gentleman, honorable, deadly, you know, a portrait of the typical good guy. The bad guys are also extremely violent and cool looking. He doesn't fight or kick much in this film, but he shoots a lot, dodging bullets from a dozen bad guys with machine guns with no scratch at all, his revolver shoots 30 bullets without reloading, he drives a car inside a hall and uses the elevator, that happens to be be the right size...
Well, you have to be in the right mood to watch this film without laughing at the many cartoonish production mistakes. But if you are into Hong Kong low production values action films, you will really enjoy one of the best ones of the 90`s.

By the way, this DVD edition sucks. English dubbed, subtitles, poor sound and no extras, not even a filmography.

3 out of 5 stars "no risk, no reward".......2006-11-19

Meltdown has a lot of great things going for it and a lot of stupid things. This is an action packed movie that has some great fights and some other great action scenes. There are a lot of cool characcters in the film, but unfortunately there are plenty of stupid ones as well. The story is ok but the dubbing ruins everything, unless you get your hands on the original Chinese version. The guy that dubs Jet Li's voice sounds...like...he...is.....acting like...William....Shatner acts on the.....original.......Star.....Trek series.

Kit (played by Jet Li) is Frankie Lone's bodyguard, a famous stuntman who has become a disspointment and a drunk coward to those closest to him. He is a big fraud, and Kit has been accustomed to covering for his stunts while not taking the credit. Frankie and Kit become part of a major hostage crisis in a fine HK hotel during a jewelry exhibit. Kit encounters the same men again, two years after they killed his wife and a bus full of school kids.

There are two villains in the movie that are pretty awesome. The first, whose name I can't remember, fights Jet Li about 3/4 through the movie. It is my favorite fight scene of the movie and one of my favorite Jet Li fight scenes in any movie. The fight is intense and quick, beginning with gun shots, then some good ol fancy martial arts, finally ending with an interesting swordsfight, where Kit improvises by using a lighting rod from the ceiling. The other villain is Kong, played by Billy Chau (also appeared as Jet Li's nemesis in Fist of Legend). Unfortunately, Kong only has a very quick fight against Kit early in the movie, but he provides the final fight of the movie against Frankie, lasting a good 5 minutes and again combining martial arts with weapons. Its a good fight, but the previous fight mentioned was much better.

Aside from these great fights, there is a lot of action consisting of lots of gunfire, driving a minivan through the hotel, and even bringing a helicopter into one of the upper stories, creating quite a disaster.

Its the dubbing and the rest of the characters that becomes complete annoyance throughout the film. There is also dumb humor that fails to be funny, and ends up being really cheesy and unsuccessful at creating comedy.

The Chinese language version should provide a better experience for this movie, unfortunately subtitles distract me too. However, if action is all you are after grab Meltdown and it will give you want you want.

2 out of 5 stars The king of sleeze-Jing Wong forgets that he had Jet Li starring in this movie.......2006-10-05

Jing Wong truly sinks to a new low with this movie. Jet has one oustanding action sequence but other than that, he just isn't used.

Jacky Cheung is the star of this movie and plays an actor who absolutely never uses stunt doubles. It became apparent within 5 minutes that this movie was made to make fun of Jackie Chan. Of course it didn't have to be so obvious but Jing Wong just keeps driving it into your head that he does his own stunts. So if you are familiar with Jing then you know this isn't going to be a tribute to Jackie. Oh no, it is a punch to the throat through the movie screen. Jet Li plays Cheung's bodyguard and ends up doing the a stunt for him. After setting up his stupid Jackie Chan character, Jing tries to do a remake of Die Hard. Remember how you never knew what Bruce Willis was going to do and it was always surprising? Well Jing makes about the worst movie possible from here on. Instead of being clever, he makes Jet just keep storming in on the hostages and then flee. At one point he takes a helicopter up and starts shooting right into the buiding at the main bad guy with all of the hostages standing around. After the helicopter crashes into the side of the building it doesn't blow up, it just destroys everything on that floor. So other than one outstanding action sequence between Jet Li and Ben Lam(guy with sunglasses), this movie is a complete waste of time. Even Billy Chow couldn't save this one. Of course it would help if Wong Jing was smart enough to capitalize on the success of Billy Chow and Jet Li in 'Fist of Legend', but instead we don't get to see them fight and get to look at Billy Chow in a thong. Yeah, that it just what I am looking for.

The Universal Laser and Video company version is OK but the imbedded subtitles are sometimes hard to read. There is a version of this released by Dimension Video(grrrr)that has been retitled Meltdown and has been shortened by 10 minutes and also has gotten a horrible new soundtrack including English dubbing and rap music replacing what was in the original. Doesn't matter which one you get because the Chinese version isn't really any better since it is not a good movie to begin with.

3 out of 5 stars Jet's HK career was dying down.......2004-06-06

It seems as if there was nothing better for Jet to do than star in this mediocre action movies. It just doesn't fit him.

If you're a fan, and want to see this just to see it, go ahead, but don't expect much.

Description

The premiere mixed martial arts event in the world is back in blistering Las Vegas at the Thomas & Mack Center for UFC 43: Meltdown. In the main event, Light Heavyweight number-one contender Chuck "The Iceman" Liddell battles two-time former UFC Heavyweight Champion Randy "The Natural" Couture for the Interim Light Heavyweight Championship. The undercard is stacked with such UFC stars as Tank Abbott, Kimo, Vitor Belfort, Frank Mir, Yves Edwards, and Ian Freeman.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars ... to Be Continued?.......2007-04-26

There were 3 Liddell vs. Couture fights. This is where it started. If you've seen all 3, you know they were all excellent matches, and NONE of them went all 5 rounds. So without giving anything away, this is #1. This is the first match-up between these two warriors. Randy's thought was simply, "Chuck's been waiting for a title shot for a long time." Chuck Liddell, on the other hand was direct. "Titles aren't the main thing for me. I'm gonna try and tear his head off." What would happen with this high-caliber main event? They both wanted it! I believe if Dana White, and some of the others with UFC knew the outcome of the fights on this evening, it could've been nicknamed, "to Be Continued..." There are a few fights in this that are just the beginning. This doesn't make for a boring event. All these fights are great! Here's a list of what's on the DVD. Read below:

Pedro Rizzo vs. Tra Telligman: Both men are swinging for the knockout! Both men get cut. This is a great slugfest until the fight has to be stopped due to cuts. Great heart by both fighters!

Matt Lindland vs. Falaniko Vitale: Ok, you wanna talk about a screwball way to end a fight?! Matt Lindland does it. I didn't know whether to laugh, or to feel kind of sorry for Matt after this fight. It doesn't help for somebody to explain what happened in this fight. You simply have to see it. Needless to say, there is a rematch! To be continued in UFC 45!

Yves Edwards vs. Eddie Ruiz: Great fight all around. Yves Edwards is an amazing fighter with great skills! Eddie Ruiz shows amazing heart the whole time. It goes to a unanimous decision.

Frank Mir vs. Wes Sims: This was a great fight until... Somebody needs to think straight and use their head a little bit more before just acting out! There is a disqualification. To be continued in UFC 46!

Ian Freeman vs. Vernon White: Freeman's a veteran fighter. White's no slouch. In King of the Cage, Vernon White fought Jeremy Horn for the title. THAT fight went all 5 rounds, and White lost a controversial split decision that many think he should have won. This fight goes to a well deserved draw. Both of these guys fought well!

Vitor Belfort vs. Marvin Eastman: A word to Marvin Eastman. You can look as tough as you want when fighting, but you actually have to fight. This ends with one nasty gash over the eye!

Tank Abbott vs. Kimo: Amazingly enough, this is probably the most boring fight of the night. It ends pretty quickly without a punch landing.

Chuck Liddell vs. Randy Couture: This is amazing! To say the least, it is amazing. This is what starts off a great rivalry, and takes us to UFC 52!! As goes the theme for the night... TO BE CONTINUED!!!

This is a great night of fights. Don't miss it.

4 out of 5 stars All the matches are enjoyable in this one.......2006-09-08

Here is a list of the matches:

PEDRO RIZZO VS TRE TELLIGMAN-great battle, too bad it had to be stopped.

BELFORT VS. MARVIN EASTMEN-You will see what I am talking about when you watch it, but Belfort can hit freaking hard!

FALANIKO VITALE VS. MATT LINDLAND-very funny match(but very painful too).

IAN FREEMAN VS. VERNON WHITE-great match, enough said.

YVES EDWARDS VS. EDDIE RUIZ-you have to feel a bit sorry for Eddie Ruiz but this match was hilarious.

WES SIMS VS. FRANK MIR-great match, too bad it had to end like it did.

TANK VS. KIMO-I hate Kimo but Tank needs to retire. This was one fo the saddest UFC fights I have ever seen.

COUTURE VS. LIDELL-I certainly did not expect this. Great Match.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best........2006-09-07

UFC 43 is, in my opinion, one of the best UFC's to date. Usually, there'll be at least one or so fights that aren't worth watching, but here, every fight is great. Vernon White vs. Ian Freeman, Tra Telligman vs. Pedro Rizzo, and of course the main event Randy Couture vs. Chuck Liddell, are all huge, epic battles. The "David and Goliath" matchup of Frank Mir and the 6'10" Wes Sims is exciting as well. There are some short fights here, such as Kimo Leopoldo quickly submitting Tank Abbott, and the amazingly quick-handed Vitor Belfort destroying Marvin Eastman with his lightning-fast punches. Still good fights though, because for one thing, Tank Abbott is such a braggart, and it's always gratifying to see him get owned by superior fighters, and second, Belfort is just awesome.

Anyway, back to the main event. Randy Couture was an underdog for this fight, as Liddell was thought to be a much better kickboxer, and with his good takedown defense, Couture's wrestling background would put him at a disadvantage. However, Couture shocked all by dominating throughout all 3 rounds, even outclassing Liddell in the striking department. That, combined with the fact that he was pushing 40 at the time made for a hell of a surprising and impressive victory.

Oh, and in regards to the 1-star reviews below from Pride FC fans: while I agree with you that Pride has surpassed the UFC, and has better fighters overall, the fact remains that the UFC started it all, and regardless of which one you prefer, you have to give them credit. And no skill? Come on! How anyone could watch fighters like Belfort and Couture, and honestly say they have no skill is definitely beyond me.

Anyway, this was a great event, and highly recommended to all UFC fans.

1 out of 5 stars tremendously bad.......2006-07-11

Just terrible and not worth the money. The fights are horrible and the fighters have very little skill. Puchase PRIDE instead where the best fighters in the WORLD come to fight.

1 out of 5 stars as ugly as it gets.......2006-07-10

UFC 43 is a joke of an event. There is only one good fight which is the main event. The rest of the card is saved for no namers or fat has-beens such as Kimo and Tank. You can tell that all these guys have very little skill compared to the guys in Pride and sometimes are akin to fat barroom brawlers.

Pride FC is the top organization in the world. Sadly, the UFC is far behind.

3 out of 5 stars RoboCop, RoboCop, RoboCop and More RoboCop.......2006-08-28

Supposedly RoboCop Prime Directives was originally a TV miniseries released in 2001. I'm not sure where it aired, but each episode is feature film length and the violence/language varies from PG to R rated material.

The series includes Dark Justice, Meltdown, Resurrection, and Crash and Burn...and the movies should be watched in that order for them to make sense.

Page Fletcher (from HBO's The Hitchhiker) stars as RoboCop. He does about as good a job as Robert John Burke did in RoboCop 3. In fact, the whole Prime Directives series is on par with RoboCop 3...and that's not a compliment. It's not really a knock either. It's a declaration that Prime Directives is an average sequel-set to what were two great initial RoboCop films (RoboCop and RoboCop 2).

Prime Directives takes place ten years after the first RoboCop. Alex Murphy/RoboCop is no longer needed in Delta City and is now considered a nuisance by OCP. John Cable, Alex Murphy's former partner, is killed and brought back as a new RoboCop and is instructed to destroy Murphy/RoboCop.

OCP is now in the hands of corrupt executives (one is a malevolent new CEO, one is Cable/RoboCop's ex-wife and one is Murphy/RoboCop's own son) and they have a new technology called SAINT that they will use to run the city and market to consumers "to make all of your decisions for you". But there is a terrorist that wants to infect SAINT with a computer virus that could take down all computers on the net and release a deadly nanotechlogy into humans.

All 4 episodes run apx 90 minutes each, so we're talking about 6 hours of 3-star RoboCop. So if you've got a rainy day and a craving for RoboCop, this series is for you.

As of this writing, the series is available as a set only from Amazon resellers, and the set is about 1/2 the price of buying all 4 separately. But Prime Directives is far from collector caliber, so I'd recommend just finding these to rent, and keep the viewing order that I mentioned earlier in mind.

    4 out of 5 stars Good for a miniseries.......2005-12-10

These four movies are like a TV miniseries, so they aren't as good as a movie with a big production budget might be. Still, they're pretty good, and if you're a sci-fi or Robocop fan it's certainly worth the time and money to watch them. It doesn't say on the box what order to watch them in, so here it is: Dark Justice, Meldown, Resurrection, Crash & Burn.

    4 out of 5 stars Robocop 4.......2005-02-14

I did not even know these new Robocop movies had been made. I take it they where T.V movies or something? However the big reason that they do not have part 4, 5, 6, or 7 on them is because it would have to be called Robocop 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 4.4. These are a 4 part series all spanning over into the continuity of each other. I saw these DVD's for sale individualy on the shelf at very cheap prices, but I thought they where the TV series that was made a few years ago. They are not. These are 2001 made movies, each running for about an hour and twenty minutes and all continue the story into each other. But I never watched these untill I rented all 4 in one. Amazon dont show anything like it, but here in Australia it is titled as ACTION PACK 2, and is 2 DVD's with 2 double sided discs in each. The last one is the four Robocop series movies. On 2 flip sided discs.

The lowdown on the adventure is that it's ten years since robocop was made. He has been serving the public trust, protecting the innocent, and in some ways upholding the law. There are all new crime bosses in Delta City. And OCP as as in charge and as corrupted as ever.

Robo has a new cheif John Cableat the station who was Robo's partner when he was alive as Alex Murphy. Throguhout the first episode Robo is having memory flash backs of John, and eventualy John discovers who it is underneath the titanium armour known as Robocop. Eventualy John Cable is shot dead in the line of duty but reserected as the new and improved version as Robocop, but corrupted by an OCP executive, his first mission, while being unknown to anybody yet, is to frame Robocop by attacking the head of OCP and various other things. Robocop is then disgraced as a fugitive and hunted down to be taken off the streets. OCP send out Cable and introduce the public to the new and improved Robocop unit. Robocop tries to make Cable remember who he is. Will Robo make him remember or not? Eventualy another of OCP's executives gets his plan to make every hom ein Delta City run by the one mega computer operating in the OCP biulding will let nothing get in the way of his dream, even if it means murder. Eventualy when the machine is about to go online and take over everything in the city, a bad guy attempts to upload a virus on the computer that will spread to all computers, and then to humans!! Will Robocop be able to defeat the new and improved Robocop unit with his friend John Cable inside? Will Robo be able to do something about the new computer virus while being hunted down as a fugitive by OCP and Cable? Find out by watching, it might suprise you what happens in the end.

Overall I thought the whole thing was very interesting. Lots of comedy and fun and action, I thought some parts where pretty lame and boring. Some things I did not like, I hated the way Robocop sounded when he walked, being so used to the sound he is supposed to have, the new one did not work for me. There is no sign of an ED-209 anywhere in sight. During a grave sight scene, it shows Alex Murphy as having died in 1992, obviously they never bothered to work out what year Robocop (original) was supposed to be set in.

Apart from that the whole thing is pretty enjoyable. You'll have to own all 4 DVD's to enjoy the whole story line. Other wise it is just movies that dont make sense. Robocop's ultimiate challenge is another Robocop, new and improved and the man is also one of Alex Murphys best friends. So join Robo on an adventure through Delta City and see what happens if your interested.

    No Bonus Features.

5 out of 5 stars This movie is friggin great!!!.......2004-08-24

I didn't know about this 4 part series different than the 3 movies, and this one has entered the top 10 of my all time favorite movies. Its funny, its silly, its sad, and parts of it touched my heart because it shows us there is a human side to Robocop. I love whenever he moves, you hear servo motors, and its a scream how he turns. Robo cop has a heart, and it took me a 2nd viewing to see the things that blew past me the first time. He sees his grave site and he weeps, then he goes out and kicks some ass! I gotta get the whole set to see the next installment. ROBOCOP RULES!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Perhaps the best of the 4 Prime Directives series.......2004-06-11

As a huge Robocop fan, it is easy for me to overlook the flaws and cosmetic blunders and enjoy the meat of the movie: Action. There is lots of good action featuring my favorite character, Robo himself.

In this movie he faces "Robocable," his replacement, and the ensuing battles and chases are excellent.

Don't set hopes too high, but this is worth a look.
