Description
In America, they call it the Mafia... In Japan they call it Yakuza. When they meet they call it war! Viggo Mortensen (G.I. Jane) and Michael Nouri (The Hidden) star in this explosive action-thriller about the first American accepted into the savage brotherhood of Japan's criminal underworld. Sent to infiltrate the American arm of the Yakuza, FBI agent Nick Davis (Mortensen) rises through the ranks of assassins and is soon adopted into the powerful Tendo crime family. His work brings him into brutal conflict with not only the Italian mob, but also a hard-nosed FBI taskforce guided by unscrupulous Agent Littman (Robert Forster). Caught dead center in a war between the Yakuza, the mob, and the FBI, Davis must decide what's more important: his old loyalties--or his new bond of blood.

When.......2007-03-22
Somehow I missed this one when it was originally released. I was quite suprised when I stumbled across it and gave it a watch. This film is quite good. It is a "Donnie Brosco" story type involving the Japanese Yakuza which is there form of organized crime. Honor, respect and family are what the Yakuza hold most sacred, which is strange since they are basically criminals of the highest order. Viggo is strong as ever playing an FBI agent going undercover to infiltrate the Yakuza. The main theme is between Viggo and his boss who owes him a blood debt. It is very interesting as Viggo doesn't quite know what side he is on anymore. Very well told story.
AMERICAN YAKUZA.......2007-01-12
I ordered the product as I had seen the movie before and this movie kept my attention and still does. Sometime I like to spend the day looking at old movies and this one is still at the top. Suspenseful. Very pleased on the timeliness of the delivery. Your web site made it easy to find.
THANKS
Predictable story line but did not bore me.......2005-10-23
It was very predictable ending and not so exciting plots or anything, but was fast pace and entertaining enough for me to watch for 90 minutes. There were a lot of bloody scenes as expected, but it was not about all the actions in the movie, which kept my interest. It was about trust, loyalty, brotherhood between two men who came from the two different worlds.
'B' at it's best...........2005-09-05
Clearly a 'B' movie, but a good 'B' movie. A few characters may have gone over the top at times, but Viggo came out shining. The bond that grew between Nick and Shu was heartwarming. I would have liked to see the relationship develop more, perhaps replacing the weak and thankfully brief love angle, but overall I thoroughly enjoy this movie. I believe any admirer of Viggo Mortensen's work should add this one to their collection.
Lots of action - with a twist!.......2005-08-22
American Yakuza is a fast moving action drama starring Viggo Mortensen in a rather unfamiliar part as an undercover FBI agent. As it turns out he also masters this sort of character. I liked the movie firstly because of this great actors ability to add extra layers to this tough agent i.e. sensitivity, loyalty and even humanity.Secondly the film is interestingly shot film noir'ish and the musical score also adds to the atmosphere in a positive way. The plot is OK and with a twist that shouldn't be revealed beforehand.
