This enjoyable nonsense stars James Garner as a career military man (and private owner of a Sherman tank) who ends up on the wrong side of a redneck sheriff (G.D. Spradlin) by interfering in a bullying deputy's treatment of a prostitute. The corrupt lawman gets his revenge by arresting Garner's teenage son (C. Thomas Howell) on a phony drug charge and locking him away on a brutal prison farm. After taking some lumps there, the poor kid's dad decides to haul out his prized tank and do a little rearranging of the terrain. While the plot sounds like some antiauthority potboiler from the early '70s and the characters are all stick figures, Garner's golden warmth gives this movie some nice dimension. Directed by Marvin J. Chomsky (Victory at Entebbe). --Tom Keogh

4 out of 5 stars Great when you're short on time.......2007-06-04

I really like this workout. It's especially nice when you you're short on time or want to add-on to your cardio. Minna gives great cues and has some nice twists on old moves....and a few new ones that make this workout fun.

5 out of 5 stars The Greatest DVD ever.......2007-05-30

I saw Minna Lessig on TV promoting this DVD, and after watching a few of the exercises, I decided to try it. I have tried many DVDs like pilates and taebo, and this was by far the best and most fun. You can do arms one day, abs the next, followed by bottom, or you can do a whole body workout. I like it because I can do a whole body workout followed by just abs or any combination that I feel is right for the day. She is also very motivating through the whole workout. The whole body workout is only 15 minutes long, but I was sweating by the end!!I would recommend this DVD to anyone who doesn't want to work out at a gym.

5 out of 5 stars Another solid workout.......2007-05-20

This is my 4th dvd featuring Minna Lessig. I think she plans very balanced programs that hit all of the areas. This dvd has sections for arms & shoulders, abs, and glutes plus an additional 15 minutes segment for total body conditioning. All segments are challenging and include some moves that are new to me. You need two sets of weights (light & heavy) and a mat. I've been working out regularly for a while, so I used 5 and 8 pound weights. If you are just starting out, go lighter.

Minna demonstrates moves well and is very encouraging - never annoying. This dvd will be a regular in the rotation for quite a while.

4 out of 5 stars overall body sculpting.......2007-04-25

This is a fun fast paced, intermediate body toning and sculpting video. The moves can be challenging, but once you get the hang of it your good to go. The instructor shows you the move first, and then you follow along with her. She does different moves to work the same body part in different ways. This keeps the work out fun and interesting. The music is great. You will love this toning workout. I built up a lot of sweat just doing the sculpting routines and I bet you will too. This is a keeper. You can also turn of the speaking and just do the workout or create your own workout to the music only.

    4 out of 5 stars Excellent workout.......2007-04-21

I bought this dvd 2 weeks ago and have done it 3 times now and really enjoy it. I was also very sore which, of course, is a good thing. Minna knows how to make working out fun. She does a very good job hitting every body part. In my opinion, an excellent workout for intermediates. I never dread doing this workout because Minna makes it fun. Often, I don't work out because I dread it, but this one is fun.

Batman Begins discards the previous four films in the series and recasts the Caped Crusader as a fearsome avenging angel. That's good news, because the series, which had gotten off to a rousing start under Tim Burton, had gradually dissolved into self-parody by 1997's Batman & Robin. As the title implies, Batman Begins tells the story anew, when Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) flees Western civilization following the murder of his parents. He is taken in by a mysterious instructor named Ducard (Liam Neeson in another mentor role) and urged to become a ninja in the League of Shadows, but he instead returns to his native Gotham City resolved to end the mob rule that is strangling it. But are there forces even more sinister at hand?

Co-written by the team of David S. Goyer (a veteran comic book writer) and director Christopher Nolan (Memento), Batman Begins is a welcome return to the grim and gritty version of the Dark Knight, owing a great debt to the graphic novels that preceded it. It doesn't have the razzle dazzle, or the mass appeal, of Spider-Man 2 (though the Batmobile is cool), and retelling the origin means it starts slowly, like most "first" superhero movies. But it's certainly the best Bat-film since Burton's original, and one of the best superhero movies of its time. Bale cuts a good figure as Batman, intense and dangerous but with some of the lightheartedness Michael Keaton brought to the character. Michael Caine provides much of the film's humor as the family butler, Alfred, and as the love interest, Katie Holmes (Dawson's Creek) is surprisingly believable in her first adult role. Also featuring Gary Oldman as the young police officer Jim Gordon, Morgan Freeman as a Q-like gadgets expert, and Cillian Murphy as the vile Jonathan Crane. --David Horiuchi

    DVD Features

The first disc is filled out by the theatrical trailer and a Jimmy Fallon-starring Batman Begins spoof from the MTV Movie Awards. The second disc consists of eight featurettes (about 105 minutes total) on a variety of topics. "The Journey Begins" covers the early stages of the movie, including the casting and how director/co-writer Christopher Nolan brought in co-writer David S. Goyer for his comic-book expertise. "Shaping Mind and Body" covers Christian Bale's fight training, and other featurettes discuss the sets (the Batcave is shown being constructed out of wood and sheets), the Batman costume, the Batmobile, the monorail sequence, and the hazards of filming in Iceland. All the behind-the-scenes featurettes are solid but somewhat routine, and while "The Journey Begins" is the widest overview, there's not really any centerpiece documentary (all are 8 to 15 minutes, and there's no Play All option). Interviewees tend to be the same throughout: Nolan, Goyer, Bale (the only cast member to get much face time), and other crew members (it's nice to hear from the stunt people).

Potentially more interesting to fans is "Genesis of the Bat," which covers the comic books that influenced the film, including The Long Halloween, Neal Adams's Ra's Al Ghul from the '70s, Dennis O'Neill and Dick Giordano's The Man Who Falls, and Frank Miller's Batman: Year One and The Dark Knight Returns. Interviewees include DC Comics editor Paul Levitz and artist Jim Lee, but the latter's involvement eventually degrades the featurette into a pitch for DC's All-Star Batman line. A nice bonus to the Deluxe Edition is a mini comic book (DVD case-sized) that has Batman's first appearance (Detective Comics #27), The Man Who Falls, and a 48-page excerpt from The Long Halloween. (Once you get a taste of Halloween, you'll want to pick up the full-length, full-size version.) Filling out the disc are overviews of four gadgets and eight characters, DVD-ROM features, and a variety of poster-art concepts. To get to the features menu, you have to scroll through a multi-page Goyer-scribed comic book, which is a good read, but you can't skip it the next time you want to watch the second disc. Note that the comic book is also viewable in French, and the second disc offers a French menu and French (but not English) subtitles for the featurettes. --David Horiuchi

    Description

Batman Begins explores the origins of the Batman legend and the Dark Knight's emergence as a force for good in Gotham. In the wake of his parents' murder, disillusioned industrial heir Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) travels the world seeking the means to fight injustice and turn fear against those who prey on the fearful. He returns to Gotham and unveils his alter-ego: Batman, a masked crusader who uses his strength, intellect and an array of high tech deceptions to fight the sinister forces that threaten the city.

5 out of 5 stars Batman, as it should be.......2007-07-04

This movie did a great job at illustrating the origin of Batman, and portraying him as the Dark Knight.

The movie did a great job of overcoming the campiness of some of the earlier Batman movies.

I hope they produce more Batman movies like this one.

4 out of 5 stars The Best "Batman" Movie.......2007-07-02

Excellent movie depicting how batman became batman. Excellent storyline, you're always thinking what's going to happen next. Great acting. This movie should definitely accelerate Christain Bales career. Good action sequences!

1 out of 5 stars The mask of Zero.......2007-06-28

Apparently, the only path to wisdom and a life packed with acts of kindness is arse freezing and sword and/or kickboxing tricks.
Ridiculous movie designed for brainless pimpled teenagers.
    Nauseating philosophy wrapping grandiloquent dialogues.

At least the Rambo suite was honest entertainment.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect Batman origin.......2007-06-20

I was a little underwhelmed by the special features (there should be more for a product this huge... see the most recent release of Batman (Two-Disc Special Edition) which features documentary on the span of years from producers' desire to make a new Batman to the pandemonium following its release), but as far as the FILM itself goes, without a doubt it is a 5-star story. I put this in the same category as Casino Royale (2-Disc Widescreen Edition) as the two best movies I've seen in five years--interestingly they are both "reboots."

4 out of 5 stars Batman Begins with HD DVD!.......2007-06-15

Unfortunately, I did not like this film as much as some of the other reviewers. The story was ok, but I think Scarecrow (and some of the special effects used around the charatcer and Batman) really kept it from tanking because Katie Holmes was just plain corney. I really think they could have used a better actress (a la Charlize Theron). The HD DVD picture quality of course is there and the In Movie Experience is what helped make this one of the highset selling HD DVDs ever. Its a good film but not perfect. Still this is an essential HD DVD purchase if you can overlook some of the film's shortcomings.

Coasting on the successes of Gods and Monsters and George of the Jungle, Brendan Fraser turns in yet another winning performance in this fish-out-of-water comedy in which Pleasantville meets modern-day Los Angeles, with predictably funny results. Fraser stars as Adam, who was born in the bomb shelter of his paranoid inventor dad (a less-manic-than-usual Christopher Walken), who spirited his pregnant wife (Sissy Spacek, in fine comic form) underground when he thought the Communists dropped the bomb (actually, it was a plane crash). Armed with enough supplies to last 35 years, the parents bring up Adam in Leave It to Beaver style with nary any exposure to the outside world. When the supplies run out, and dad suffers a heart attack, Fraser goes up to modern-day L.A. for some shopping and long-awaited culture shock. More of a cute premise with lots of clever ideas attached than a fully fleshed out story, Blast from the Past is also supposed to be part romantic comedy, as the hunky Adam hooks up with his jaded Eve (Alicia Silverstone) and tries to convince her to marry him and go underground. The sparks don't fly, though, because Silverstone is saddled with the triple whammy of being miscast, playing an underwritten character, and suffering a very bad hairdo. Fraser, however, carries the film lightly and easily on his broad, goofy shoulders, mixing Adam's gee-whiz innocence with genuine emotion and curiosity; only Fraser could pull off Adam's first glimpse of a sunrise or the ocean with both humor and pathos. Also winning is Dave Foley as Silverstone's gay best friend, who manages to make the most innocuous statements sound like comic gems. --Mark Englehart

5 out of 5 stars Very funny and entertaining romantic comedy .......2007-05-20

Perfect vehicle for Brenden Fraser. Good script, cast, comedic timing. I have watched it 3 times. I like more each time

4 out of 5 stars Fun movie with Walken and Fraser shining.......2007-05-14

The movie has a good pace, with a lot of screen time dedicated to
Fraser and Walken, who give fresh and fun performances. Spacek
also gives a solid performance. Some parts drag, like the whole
gag about the bartender turned cult leader, and Silverstone is just
god awful. But otherwise, there's some quirky humor from Walken's
paranoid character and also some good lines from Fraser when he
meets 'reality'. Cute and upbeat overall. An overlooked film that is
certainly better than most of the comedy garbage out there.

    5 out of 5 stars good info.......2007-05-11

Lots of helpful info for everybody. You never know when you may be in this situation.

4 out of 5 stars Great romantic comedy.......2007-03-28

The first time I saw this movie I watched because of the actors. Alicia Silverstone, and Brendon Fraiser. I have enjoyed both actors in other movies, and Blast from the Past is no different. I am a fan of Brendon Fraiser, he has such a great comedic sense, and in this movie gives a great performance. I particularly like the scene in the 40"s dance club. The swing dancing really captured my attention. All in all this is a great movie to add to your collection.

    5 out of 5 stars A Blast to Watch!.......2007-03-17

A paranoid scientist builds a full sized home in a large nuclear bomb shelter for his pregnant wife. A plane crash that he thinks is a bomb prompts him to whisk his wife down below, and they live in the shelter with enough supplies for 35 years.

But the father has an apparent cardiac episode in the early 1990s, and so they send their son (Adam) to the earth to buy supplies. He meets a beautiful girl named (surprise!) Eve, who befriends him and helps him to find his way in the world.

There are many funny and entertaining moments, and Brendan Fraser does a great job of playing the well educated, well behaved son. I lover it when he tells the guy at the memorabilia store to stop taking the Lord's name in vain. The store owner says "Why, do you have a problem with it?" Adam says "Yes, I have a BIG problem with it!"

Adam not only has a lot to learn from the world, but the world has a lot to learn from him. This was one of the most entertaining movies I've seen in a while.

The Year is 2033. Earth has been clobbered with a comet, civilization has been destroyed, and it hasn't rained in 11 years. Nearly all the water on the planet is controlled by the evil Water and Power company, which is in turn controlled by the even more evil Kesslee (Malcolm McDowell). Who stands in the way? Some mysterious mutants called the Rippers and, of course, Tank Girl. Lori Petty plays Tank Girl, the wisecracking, defiant heart of the movie, as kind of an inner child gone wild. Unfortunately Petty can't quite carry a movie on her own--her zingers frequently fall flat and she seems to be continually worried that we still like her. Luckily there's Naomi Watts as Jet Girl to save the day: smart, shy, and inherently way more appealing than Tank Girl. Tank Girl is based on the comic of the same name, and it is visually an eye-popper. It's worth watching for the insane set and costume designs alone. --Ali Davis

    Description

If you're into in-your-face visuals, outrageous action sequences and non-stop explosive laughs, this is your "rip-roaring power surge of a movie" (L.A. Weekly). The year's 2033 and since a humongous meteor hit earth, the world just hasn't been the same. No Movies, No Cable TV, NO WATER!!! A mega-villain, Kesslee (Malcolm McDowell), the leader of Water & Power, holds the world in his grasp since he controls all the H2O down to the last drop...or so he thinks. Two colossal enemiesstand in his way: (1) The Rippers - an army of half-men/half-kangaroo people whose sole purpose is to bring down the W & P, and (2) a chick with a tank and tons of attitude - a.k.a. Tank Girl (Lori Petty). Kesslee had better get a grip on reality and his water jugs because not even a run in her stocking is going to stop her from saving the planet.

Tank Girl is a contender for cult film status as we speak! This has to be the best film ever done in the comic character genre! It is just so funny, belly laugh, funny!!! Lorie Petty was perfection as Rebecca Buck, our own favorite Tank Girl. Naomi Watts played straight woman to Petty's manic force with equal aplomb. The Rippers(kangaroo-human mutants) added to this mix of meyham and merriment! Booga(Tank Girl's love interest)was adorable. Jeff Kober(in a very rare comedic turn for this great character actor)managed to keep Booga the vigilant warrior, yet infuse the character with the innocent, childlike qualities,as called for in the original source material! Ice-T,grumpy,profoundly arrogant, scored as the Ripper,T-Saint. Malcolm McDowell,as the wickedly dark,Kesslee, finishes out the stand-out members of the cast.
The DVD of Tank Girl was a quality production, but simply the film, itself. There were no extras and this was a bit disappointing. There was a lot of controversy between the director of Tank Girl,Rachel Talalay, and the studio over the edit of the film. It would have been just grand if a lot of the deleted footage could have been added to the DVD. A director's commentary and reflections from the cast would also have been a welcome addition. However,on the whole, the DVD of Tank Girl is well worth the buy.

I ordered two copies of TANK GIRL, and they arrived very early in the arrival date spectrum. My only complaint is that in one copy, the center part of the inside of the DVD was broken, allowing the DVD itself to move freely inside the case. The DVD didn't get damaged, but now the case is trash.

GREAT!!!! I think Lorie Petty is a great Actress that is so under appreciated and under utilized . She is a really good actress . I would love to see her in more films. This movie is so different from any movie I have ever seen, I loved it .
Not only does it entertain but it also has a message, well really more than one message. If you appreciate movies that are different and not the same old cookie cutter movie than this one is for you! It is original, It is funny , serious , stupid and crazy but when you put it altogether you get a great Sci-Fi movie with a lot of heart. If you have never seen this movie you really should!
I can't say enough about this movie with out telling you about it. Just take a look at the cover art and you will get the idea. I really had to hunt to find this movie on DVD and I'm so glad I did. Enjoy

5 out of 5 stars Move Over Wiggles............2007-06-27

A year ago the Wiggles' movie 'Cold Spaghetti Western' was played every day at my house. Now it's all about Thomas. My 3 1/2 year old just loves it. And, just like the Wiggles' movie, I love it too. These DVDs of the 1st season with Ringo Starr as the narrator are the best. There's a continuing storyline that runs from one episode to the next that you miss watching this on TV. The DVD's also all start playing again on their own which is great for super long car rides with handy car dvd players.

I would buy this again in a second.

5 out of 5 stars The Early Years, the Best Years.......2007-05-02

This is clearly the best collection of the best stories from the series. They are taken directly from the original stories, and Ringo Starr is an excellent storyteller for them. (When I read the original stories to my three year old, I now use Ringo's inflections!)

My only complaint is that these DVDs are SHORT! Sure, they brag to collect 26 stories, but the stories are about five minutes each! I see no reason to spread about two hours of content out over two DVDs!

That complaint out of the way, this set is true to the spirit of the original stories, capturing their charm. (If you can't tell, I recommend getting the original stories too, and read them at bedtime. To your child, that is, although you'll enjoy them too!)

    5 out of 5 stars Excellent.......2007-04-14

My kids love Thomas and this DVD set did not disappoint. get it now.

    5 out of 5 stars Ringo Starr!!!!.......2007-03-02

Ringo is the narrator. I cannot believe the George Carlin was ever allowed or asked to narrate a children's' series. I am glad that I finally found a set where Ringo does.
    Too much repeating of dialogue!
After about a month I have found that about half of each episode is just repeated lines.
Thomas said, "Oh no I cant stop! Oh no I cant stop."
The trucks chuckled, "This is fun! This is fun."
The fat controller said, "Thomas a useful engine could stop. A useful engine could stop."

    You get the idea...

My little Thomas fan loves any of the Thomas DVD's, no matter how many times he watches them. They are his favorite and I don't think that will change for a very long time. Thomas provides great life lessons like sharing, caring, and friendship. They get a thumbs up from me as well!

Wonderful DVD, hods the kids attention the whole time. Sing a long songs in between movie shorts.
    Just a wonderful Thomas DVD.

5 out of 5 stars Great edition for your Thomas lover!.......2007-02-19

My two year old adores this DVD! Because I'm a teacher, I'm always looking for a way to make his TV time more educational - the special features in this video get my vote! It's nice to have a short break between the stories to make your child think! There's a feature that has children matching shapes, then a maze that matches engines to their special job (ie - Percy to the mail cars). This dvd also has two songs (that will get stuck in your head if you aren't careful). Our edition also came with Duncan (purchased for the same price at Wal-mart). Several of the stories feature Duncan and Toby which was a delight for my son who just adores Toby. You are also introduced to Mighty Mac and Neville. The short stories are engaging and enjoyable for you and your child (OK, maybe not you after the 50th time, but the first few times are great!) Even better, we get out our trains and recreate the story after it's done.
The interface of the DVD is great! You aren't forced to watch ad after ad, but rather you can choose to play once, choose a story, or play constantly. My only complaint is the same with the other Thomas DVDs - why the little case? It's hard for my child to see and choose what he wants. However, it's a small complaint, not even enough to change the star rating.

4 out of 5 stars Not as good as the rest.......2007-02-08

The only thing thats wrong with this dvd is that it has no bonus features. The menu is play(once or continuous) and language selection(english/spanish). You cannot choose stories, songs, or even have a look at the character gallery.

Bolstered by the success of 28 Days Later, Shaun of the Dead, the Resident Evil movies and the hit remake of his own Dawn of the Dead, George A. Romero returns to the horror subgenre he invented with Land of the Dead. The fourth installment in Romero's zombie cycle (and the first since 1985's Day of the Dead) presents a logical progression of events since 1968's horror classic Night of the Living Dead: Zombies (also known as "stenches" for their rotting odor) are the dominant population, and they've begun to show signs of undead intelligence and gathering power. The wealthiest survivors live comfortably in a luxury high-rise within a barricaded safe zone, ignoring the horrors of the outside world while armed scavengers stage raids in the zombie-zone to gather much-needed food and supplies. Simon Baker and John Leguizamo play mercenaries-for-hire; Dennis Hopper is their nefarious boss; and horror favorite Asia Argento (daughter of Suspiria director Dario Argento) plays a former hooker recruited into Baker's scavenger squad. While none of this seems particularly fresh or inspired, Land of the Dead benefits from hints of the social satire that made Romero's earlier zombie films so memorable. Not so much funny as gruesomely peculiar, Romero's plot isn't as inventive as it could've been, but as a big-scale B-movie, Land of the Dead delivers a handful of shocks and horror-celebrity cameos (including gore-masters Tom Savini and Greg Nicotero) that should keep horror buffs happy until the next zombie opus comes along. --Jeff Shannon

1 out of 5 stars Full Screen Edition.......2007-06-20

Look out! This "Unrated Director's Cut" edition is Full Screen and not widescreen. I was really bummed when I purchased this.

If you want widescreen, get the Unrated Edition instead of this one.

5 out of 5 stars fun on a bun in the sun with a gun.......2007-05-30

I'll preface this by saying that I just paid a rather embarrassing amount for an enormous Land of the Dead poster (we're talking six feet high, here). That's just one example. I guess you could say I like this film just a little bit.

First, the bad: many people will NOT like the ending. A character makes a decision that has caused no end of controversy. I also winced a little, as I surely would not have done the same thing, but it is something decidedly different from other films of its ilk. Other characters make decisions that, again, many of us would not have made, given the circumstances. Some will dislike zombies with weapons and the concept of "thinking" zombies to begin with. This seems to tie in with "Day", which is also much reviled in some circles for a lot of the same reasons. I completely understand the reasoning behind it all, which is why I'm listing these aspects as flaws.

That aside... the special effects are fantastic, the atmosphere is perfect and the characters and dialogue are fun. I love Charlie so much I could just die, twice. If you've seen "Land" and it's your only exposure to Robert Joy, you owe it to yourself to seek out more of the films he appears in. He is a highly underrated talent.

In some ways, it may not be the strongest of the "Dead" films, but there's no denying that it's fun to watch. Plenty of gore, cool-looking zombies, and cinematography that sails right past "good" and plops squarely upon "so sexy I could eat it".

Also, and it has little to do with the film as a whole, but Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright are just delightful as the zombies chained to the swingset in the photo booth. I want to pinch their rotten cheeks.

I can't get much gushier than that. I love "Land" so much that it's shameful, and for the most part I try to keep it to myself, since so many people seem to despise it with a passion that far outstrips my own. I know not everyone will agree, but hey, maybe the filmmakers would be glad to know how happy they've made at least one person. Which is a lot. Huge amounts of happy. It's just good slasher zombie fun with heart and guts (and entrails. which gives it extra guts, just for good measure.)

Three cheers for Romero! I've still not entirely lost faith. Here's hoping that "Diary" will be as much of a joyride.

    5 out of 5 stars Romero evolves!.......2007-05-17

Many people, Romero fans and average zombie fans alike, have come out against this movie. "It's dumb" "That's not what would happen?" "It doesn't make sense?"

From one perspective, the opinions are justified. From another side, its blasphemous to speak out against the father of the modern zombie movie.

"Land of the Dead" provides a unique evolution of the zombie movie from the founding father himself. The story is massively gory, with zombie feasts spread throughout. One is reminiscent of the project apartment scene from the original "Dawn...", but jacked up about 10 notches from its '70's counterpart.

In regards to the zombies "thinking/feeling", many have forgotten that Romero has touched on the exact same subject in the original "Day..." with the unforgetable "Bub". This only takes that theme and builds on it to a shockingly beautiful crescendo. Eugene Clark is brilliant in his portrayal of the "Gas Station Zombie", Dennis Hopper is fantastic as the fat cat capitalist ignoring the problem, John Leguizamo provides a sympathetic protagonist against Asia Argento and Simon Baker.

There is plenty of gore and zombies getting shot with high-powered weaponry, including "Dead Reckoning", the original name of the movie. There is also plenty of overt commentary on American society. No Romero movie would be complete without it.

There is also an outstanding scene with a mass of zombies that rivals any mass zombie rising in a graveyard.

The movie is excellent, and one must approach it with an open mind.

    Trust George.

4 out of 5 stars "I have bad dreams...just look at me, you can tell I have terrible dreams...".......2007-05-12

While George Romero's third film in the "Dead" trilogy, "Day Of The Dead," gained an increasing degree of critical acclaim in the years following its theatrical release, "Land Of The Dead" feels more like the natural finale to the series. It's not a "horror film" in the traditional sense...more like an apocalyptic science fiction piece out of the pages of "Heavy Metal" magazine in its peak years. At the center of the action is rich characterization, with a cast of oddballs and misfits adding up to a satisfying whole: Simon Baker's "Riley Denbo," John Leguizamo's "Cholo," Dennis Hopper's villain "Kauffman," Asia Argento's magnificent anti-heroine "Slack," Robert Joy's "Charlie," the loyal sidekick to Riley, and Pedro Miguel Arce's understated powerhouse "Pillsbury." In terms of special effects, there are some things in "Land of the Dead" you haven't seen before. I won't offer spoilers, but trust me...you'll see new things. There's also a reliance on CGI computer effects...discussed by Romero in the disc's extras...that are hit and miss, but were necessary evils due to the film's budget. I've found that repeated viewings of the film reveal subtle layers and nuances. "Night Of The Living Dead" and "Dawn Of The Dead" were trend-setting, rule-breaking films. "Land Of The Dead" is simply a solid Romero film. For this viewer, that's good enough. Look for cameo appearances by the "Shaun Of The Dead" guys as zombies.

2 out of 5 stars The worst of the bunch.......2007-05-11

I can't believe that this movie was directed by the same man who did the previous "Dead" movies which were so awesome. The first thirty minutes of this were okay but then it just went down from there. Mr. Romero, to save face, please make another attempt at a decent zombie flick. You don't want this last film to be what you're known for!

Very happy with the purchase - My grandson just loved the dvd and toy that came with it.

    5 out of 5 stars Great Video.......2007-02-14

This is a pretty good complimation of episodes from other videos that are about Halloween.Just to let you know,Thomas Gets Tricked, which has George Carlin's narraration for the first time, was put in,because "trick" was in there,as it is a part of "Trick-or-Treat".It also has Diesel's Devious Deed, which was re-named to Diesel's Devilious Deed,or something like that to make it more Halloween-ish.This video is really good for around the holiday times.

3 out of 5 stars Front Cover Misleading..........2007-02-08

I was dissapointed when my son received this DVD as it didn't have some episodes I thought it would. Why on earth would they show Emily on the front cover with Thomas (from the newer episode "Halloween") and not even include that episode? It didn't have Flour Power either. Even more misleading is that one of the reviews here lists those episodes as being on this DVD. Unfortunately that was one of the few reviews here when I put it on my son's Christmas list last fall.

While this does have some good episodes that I am happy to own on DVD, I don't understand why they made a Halloween DVD without the newer Halloween episodes and why they made such a misleading cover (Emily isn't in a single episode on this DVD).

5 out of 5 stars GREAT FOR KIDS.......2007-02-12

1 out of 5 stars Disappointed with Thomas.......2006-12-05

I recently purchased "Thomas Comes to Breakfast" for my grandson, who is 19 months old and fascinated with the Thomas train set. He never seems to tire of it. Other parents and grandparents have told us that their own kids and grandchildren are the same way. So, I didn't think twice about ordering the DVD from Amazon. The five-star rating helped me decide.

When I received the DVD in the mail, I anxiously put it in the DVD player to preview it knowing that my grandson would be visiting that evening. As I watched it, I was surprised and dismayed by the dark and sinister nature of the stories. Hoping that it wouldn't be a total loss, I searched to find one story that would be ok for him to watch. I did find one but only one.

A week or so later, I was in a local book store, and I saw "The Best of Thomas," which I bought and found to be a little better, but it still had a dark side, which I didn't like.

Today, my daughter called and explained that she had decided that the DVDs were inappropriate and wasn't going to let my grandson watch them anymore. She related how his personality was changing for the worse since starting to watch the stories and his facial expressions were starting to take on the mean-spirited expressions displayed on the DVDs.

I'm by no means a prude, but the story lines are disturbing and inappropriate. I can't believe that they're so popular if, in fact, they really are. They're just too negative for us.

Buyer beware! Watch one if you can before you decide to buy!

5 out of 5 stars A Must Have For All Thomas Fans!.......2006-10-22

This is one of our all time favorites! The stories of Duck and Diesel are the best!

    5 out of 5 stars Great,Great tape.......2006-09-29

This is very good, along with A Big Day For Thomas. This & ABDFT has old stories from the old, discounted tapes(Tenders & Turntables,Thomas Breaks The Rules, and Better Late Than Never).Even though the old tapes had Ringo Starr on it,this is still good with George Carlin. The stories include:
    Thomas Comes To Breakfast(Vol.3)
    The Duck & Diesel Trilogy(Vol.5)
    Gordon Takes A Dip(Vol.5)
    Double Trouble(Vol.4)
    A Cow On The Line(Vol.4)
    Trouble In the Shed(Vol.3)

All in all, this is an exellent tape, paired with A Big Day For Thomas,so if you want to see the old episodes, get this NOW.

P.S If you want some Learning Curve Trains, buy the videos with the trains, and you save yourself some money =)

5 out of 5 stars Classic Thomas Comes to DVD.......2006-03-19

The funny thing about Thomas Comes to Breakfast is that it didn't contain new episodes. It contained Ringo Starr Era stories re-narrated by George Carlin. The story Thomas Comes to Breakfast was part of the Tenders & Turntables release which I highly recommend if you can find a copy. This release is a mix of the tapes Tenders & Turntables, Better Late Than Never, and Thomas Breaks the Rules which are three of the best ever made.

If the DVD is the same as the VHS release, the stories are

    Thomas Comes to Breakfast
    Pop Goes the Diesel
    Diesel's Devious Deed
    A Close Shave for Duck
    Gordon Takes a Dip
    Double Trouble
    A Cow on the Line
    Trouble in the Shed

If you are new to Thomas then your child probably owns the newer DVDs as opposed to the earlier era which isn't really available on DVD and the tapes are really hard to find. These stories contain none of those activities in between stories. It also features the classic theme song that every old fan loves. If you really want a good release I recommend the Thomas Early Days DVD set which has all the old stories narrated by Ringo Starr. You won't see Emily or Salty in any of these stories but you will see the roots that made Thomas so great and classic. The old stories are the ones that parents will want to watch with their kids.

If your kid loves Thomas than this is a must have. Thomas teaches kids more about sharing and friendship than most of the other shows around. As an added bonus you get the wooden train with it. Thomas is something that your kids will want to watch again and again.
