Television director-producer Scott Winant (thirtysomething) made his feature debut with this predictable romantic-comedy about two people destined to meet and fall in love--though it takes 20 years for their lives to intersect. A good idea done before, the film doesn't have anything new to offer, and the excessive sweetness of Winant's approach can't mask the lack of originality. Still, it boasts a very attractive cast, and it's fun watching these actors work together. --Tom Keogh

Highly Enjoyable Romantic Comedy.......2007-05-08
I am a little surprised at the one star ratings. I love movies that complete a circle, those are rare and this is one of those. This was a really good movie. If you like something a little different from the typical romantic comedy, this is a good choice. It has doses of reality in it and maybe that is what some folks did not like. I fell in love with this movie the first time I saw it. The main characters flaws give you more to identify with than some other romantic comedies. In particular, the soundtrack is perfection. Sometimes I just leave the credits on repeat to listen to the music. It is highly enjoyable.
A personal Favorite.......2007-01-03
This movie is one of my personal favorites. I watch it when I need to relax and cheer up.
I am a hopeless romantic...........2006-06-19
And I absolutely LOVE this film. I feel bad for those who can't see the romance and all of the wonderful moments.
Makes you wish soulmates had roadmaps to one another.......2005-10-12
This is a sweet film about "missed chances" and "lost moments" and ponders the question if the one you were meant to be with was right in front of you or just down the street. Years of near misses, cusps of time, and lost opportunities build until Gwen and Nick meet. The time leading up to their final meeting is hilarious and you just want him or her to make the right turn so they see each other for once!
Two girlfriends of mine married men who they had been missing for years at parties, mutual events, coffee shops, you name it! They were often in the same place at the same time but just didn't meet. Thank God they did and now enjoy happy marriages. I had a similar situation with someone who has lived or worked down the street from me three times over ten years, patrolled a building I used to work in, and as a teenager worked at a place I hung out at all the time at 17 and 18. Ours was perpetual bad timing because by the time we meet it was too late for anything, but it did beg the question to me if I had been missing my soul mate so long it was impossible now.
For those of you who love happy endings .... this is one to see.
Story about NOT meeting.......2004-12-19
Gwen and Nick spend their whole lives just missing eachother.
They bump into each other (literally) when they were about 6 years old and over the next 20 years they just miss meeting eachother. There are so many times that they might of seen each other if only that by the time that they actually do meet each other going for a cigarette at a meeting for people to try to stop smoking that you want to say "finally."
All in all though it is a very good movie and Dylan McDermott and Jeanne Tripplehorn are both excellent as the older Nick and Gwen and Sarah Jessica Parker is also very good as Nicks girlfriend Francesca a washed up former television star whom everybody thinks is dead.
