Navy SEALs are a top antiterrorist unit that goes anywhere (SEa, Air, or Land) to fight for and protect the American Way of Life. When a SEAL team rescues American hostages in the Middle East, they discover the terrorists have a warehouse of deadly Stinger missles. Rather than risking his entire team, Lt. Curran (Michael Biehn) orders his men to leave without destroying the Stingers. But when civilian aircraft start getting shot down--and when one of Curran's men is killed by terrorists--the SEALs make it their personal business to track down and destroy the deadly missles--and the fanatics who want to use them. Made in the Top Gun mold, Navy SEALS features stock characters (including Charlie Sheen's loose cannon) and at times seems like a recruiting film for the SEAL program. But the action sequences are well done (especially the final battle in war-torn Beirut) and the special effects and cinematography are first-rate. There's also a certain gung-ho, testosterone-driven, adrenaline-junky sensibility that seems appropriate to the sort of impossible missions SEALs are asked to do. It's a good time, as long as you don't take it too seriously. --Geof Miller

Description
They're America's ultimate weapon. Charlie Sheen (Platoon), Michael Biehn (The Terminator) and Bill Paxton (Twister) team up as three of America's finest Navy commandos in this pulse-pounding adventure that brings out the heavy artillery for explosive action and breathtaking suspense "that will leave you clenching your teeth" (The Washington Post)! The Navy's elite SEAL (SEa, Air and Land) squad is made up of the best of the best: supreme warriors who take on dangerous missions no other fighting force would dare attempt. Sent to rescue the crew of a U.S. aircraft held hostage by mideast terrorists, the SEALs know that their skills will be put to the test. But when they discover that the terrorists have seized the plane's arsenal of deadly Stinger missiles, they're thrust onto the frontlines of the battle of a lifetime.
Customer Reviews:
A favorite of mine !.......2006-07-19
Well some people posted that this is a ridiculous movie because it doesn't show the real side of US Armed Forces, i fully disagree with them, this is an action movie, it is intended to entertain the viwers, in my opinion does that and more! When i saw this movie for the first time i didn't even know anything about the Navy Seals. After watching this movie i considered the Navy Seals the nº1 Special Force arround the world.
For about 120min you will see some awsome action, and you will see a bit of each aspects of a Navy Seal (Sea / Air / Land).
Conclusion:
If you want an exact documentary about the Navy Seals, try and grab a National Geographic DVD, maby you will find something there of value...Otherwise if you want a very very good entertaining action movie this is it !
DVD downsides:
It could have a little bit more of extras... No extras at all!
If it wasn't for that i would give it a full 5 star score!
Absurd in the light of reality.......2006-06-05
Sixteen years after this was made, it is sort of amusing to see what "someone in Hollywood" thought would be a great morale booster in terms of displaying our military capabilities. Now that we know the reality of the situation of dealing with terrorists abroad, the flimsy premises of this tawdry little film seem even more ridiculous. But - at its core - it was an idiotic film then, and an even more idiotic film now.
Navy Seals.......2005-08-24
This is one of my all time favorite movies. The action and drama with a little romance thrown in is very well put together. I love Michael Biehn as the team leader. It's just an all around good movie!!! I have watched this movie over and over!!!
JUST ENTERTAINMENT!.......2005-02-28
Any movie [almost] that gives an idea of what our guys go through should be appreciated.
As to characters, Michael Biehn and Charlie Sheen did very well - if you object to some of it, go back to the writer and director.
Sorry but I missed recognizing Bill Paxton but loved the action [am I mistaken or was the DVD missing some parts that were in the video?]
Charlie Sheen's character - well there is almost one in every movie to provide conflict. A character that must learn by his mistakes - a bit of a smart aleck.
If it does nothing more that encourage you to pray for our guys in combat, then the movie was a sucess. At the very least it is just entertainment if you don't take it too personally.
Hopefully another one just like it will be that much better as we get into better tech. Enjoy, it is not that bad.
Excellent action flick!!!.......2004-09-06
I love this movie! It's a fantastic action flick. Plenty of fights and explosions . . . entertaining characters . . . hot looking guys in uniform . . . and an emotional undercurrent (losing friends). I highly recommend it!

POORLY MADE.......2007-06-26
THIS IS A POORLY MADE, VIDEO WHICH BY NO STRETCH OF THE IMAGINATIONIS WORTH WHAT WAS CHARGED FOR IT. IT SHOULD BE ON THE WALMART SHELF IN THE 499 BIN. A TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY AND NOW A DUST COLLECTOR.
Fantastic BUD/S Training Footage!.......2006-11-09
I first heard about this video from a friend of mine who entered the SEALs back in 1978. He saw this film while he was in boot camp. A SEAL "motivator" showed the film to a crowded assembly hall and then asked for volunters to take the BUD/S screening PFT. My friend had never heard of the SEALs before, but the movie "Someone Special" made the life of a "Navy frogman" seem like an exciting alternative to his selected Navy occupation. He smoked his PFT and found himself in BUD/S, which - to his surprise - was considerably more challenging then was suggested by "Someone Special".
"Someone Special" launched the Special Warfare careers of hundreds of UDT and SEAL frogmen. While clips from this film can be found on YouTube, I'm thrilled that this rare offical film is now available in its entirety on DVD via Amazon...

NAVYSEALS:SEALCQB/SEAL H2H/SEALKNIFE/SEAL SNIPER.......2006-11-25
This dvd set is good basic knowledge for a beginner and anyone who thinks you can gain the level of a SEAL thru watching is insane to begin with. The product is great for the price,Realistic and not misleading.
The 5 star review is bogus.......2006-11-08
This is just about the cheesiest DVD there is. Even Ken Good, the guy in this film admits its junk. Note the 5-star reviewer seems pretty contrived. I agree with the guy from Helsinki. Its basically a 70's infomercial.
I don't see the problem.......2006-04-28
I thought this DVD series was ok. I think the knife stuff is good, because they don't pretend to be experts, and the one guys says, "the more I know about the knife, the more I fear it". Damn right ! I am a student of various southeast Asian martial arts systems, and I can tell you, an untrained guy with a knife is a force to be reckoned with, and a guy with training is a real monster. The thing about house clearing is good and demonstrates the dangers faced by police, for example, in trying to clear a house, if, for example, one guy has a knife inside the house. I have about 10 years of martial arts training (kali, silat, boxing, jujitsu, etc.) and I didn't find anything in here to be wild or unrealistic. I think they admitted where they were weak. I also have some handgun training and certification, and I didn't find the handgun stuff weak either. I don't know anything about rifles, so that part I can't judge. The series is not bad, I think cops could learn from it, for example, about house clearing issues !
I was in the DVD.......2005-08-11
I cannot believe these things are still out there!!! Can somebody please stop the DVD press! I cannot watch them without wanting to crawl under a rock nearby....
I did this set of videos years ago and simply regret ever doing them. Had little of no control over the content, editing, marketing language (BS), titles etc. I learned my lesson in dealing with snot-nosed producers from the Hollywood area.
We had a company called Combative Concepts (that later dissolved) and wanted to get some marketing momentum....It worked quite well at the time. Later, I became the founding director of a low light training institution called the SureFire Institute. SureFire makes high-speed low-drag lights & laser for law enforcement and military folks.
I have subsequently started a training company called Strategos International, & I promise you, if I do any other videos, they will not be as idiotic as these. We are also teamed with BlackHawk Products Group, forming a division called Night-Ops. We are going to be challenging my former employer in their own domain.
These videos have been selling in one format or another for quite some time. I get ZERO financial gain from them. Saw minimal $$$ initially, but since we did not control the masters...well things happen. Eventually the $$$ were zero & I did not want to waste my time pursuing it. We did not want to really show anything, quite simply because we did not know who was going to eventually get their hands on them.
If you can get them for free from a friend, they might be useful as targets on the range or as mini-Frisbees.
So there is the saga. I have warned you (as have others) don't waste your money.
Respectfully,
Ken J. Good
WOFTAM.......2005-08-08
Don't waist your money or time on this. This DVD set is just an over grown advertisment. They used the mystic of the SEALs to push this, and is more of a case of false advertisment than anything else.

Customer Reviews:
The most difficult and physically demanding DVD of its type........2007-01-01
The Navy SEALs Workout is a 55 minute routine that was filmed at the Naval Special Warfare Center. Navy SEAL instructors effortlessly lead BUD/S trainees through a rigorous PT session. This is actually a compilation of several workouts led by various instructors and combined into one video session. I have every Navy SEAL fitness video available and this is by far the most difficult and physically demanding DVD of its type. A pull-up bar and dip bars are required for the workout.
I doubt that anyone other than a Spec Ops warrior can successfully complete the workout as shown on their first try. I'm in good shape and I still can't complete the whole routine at the pace shown. The number of repetitions for the upper body exercises appear deceptively easy at first. They soon become difficult because of the slow, strict form that is used. What really makes them hard is the use of negatives where you hold the position for extended times. The multiple sets are also performed with very little rest. Be prepared for some pain! The abdominal, neck, and leg exercises rely on sets of very high repetitions with no rest in between to push you past your limits. For example, some of the exercises include, 100 two-count "good morning darlings" and 100 four-count neck rotations followed immediately by 100 two-count up and down. You will also be performing 200 reps for the first set of squats. These exercises are designed for extended muscle endurance. Be prepared for more pain!
The production quality is good with detailed instruction at the beginning of each segment. The SEAL instructors are the epitome of physical fitness and they are motivating examples for others to follow. This is challenging, hard core PT that will either make you stronger or make you quit.
Not quite a seal of approval.......2006-12-09
I'm not the most fit person in the world, but have had a care in the past for being in shape, and have recently renewed my interest. I'd used military-themed programs and books in the past to reasonable effect, and thought this might be a good one to follow, too.
It has several different sections - warm up, pull exercises, push exercise, ab workouts, etc. These are done in isolation from each other, with rest periods between the exercises. This doesn't lend to the routines having a cardio benefit. The downside for me was that I expected it to be tough and challenging, as would befit anything with the title `Navy Seal'. The pull-ups are done in sets of three - while it might be challenging on the third or fourth set at the start, it isn't that big a deal. The push-ups tend to be done in sets of ten. Excuse me? What is tough about that? Even in my non-exercise days I could do multiple sets of ten with no problem. For absolute beginners that might be necessary, but I wonder how many absolute beginners are going to get this?
The only workout section I found to be a challenge was the ab workout, and that was because I was introduced to a few new movements.
One thing that others have noted in reviews that I shall repeat is that a place to do pull ups and dips is necessary. This isn't made clear from the DVD packaging itself, and a major portion of this DVD workout involves pull-ups of different kinds (wide grip, behind-the-neck, etc.) and dips.
The instructors and trainees are on their best behavior, and the trainees seem to be much better in terms of doing the exercises than in documentaries I've seen where Seal trainees are being put through their paces. This was obviously filmed over some time that allowed the participants to get cleaned up between takes, making it a bit less realistic.
I have no doubt that Navy Seals are as tough as they come. I have no doubt that I can do everything in this video program and not be anywhere close to their fitness level. While I never really expected to (being past 40, etc.), I had hoped it would present more of a challenge than it did.
DIP BAR NOT INCLUDED.......2006-06-23
The title description never mentions that a pull-up and dip bar are required for this workout. I got it mostly to remind me of PT cadence.
Navy Seals Workout DVD.......2006-03-16
Great Dvd work out.It took a while to get caught up to there level of fitness but then it was a great work out
Great for what it is... a conditioning workout.......2005-09-30
I think this video was great but, you have to know what it really is. When you watch it you see the BUDS trainees getting a minor thrashing. You should just follow what it does and build up to the reps that they go to. If your looking for somethings to introduce into your current work out, or if you need some ideas to start a work out routine, then you might like this video. The quality isn't the greatest, but then again who really cares, you get the point, and they show you how to do each exercise propperly.

Excellent video, I watch it again and again.......2006-12-25
This is an exceptional representation of Navy SEAL training. The video goes into extraordinary detail, and really makes you understand what these young men go through. Despite its length, I have watched it upwards of five times. Each time I find it educational, impressive, and inspiring. After seeing this film you understand why less than 20% of BUD/S trainees make it through, and why less than 0.5% of soldiers in the Navy are SEALs.
Also highly recommended for anyone considering applying to BUD/S. It certainly lets you know what you are getting into.
interesting study on human behavior.......2006-04-28
Why do guys continue, why do they quit. That is the theme of this DVD series. And it doesn't just apply to SEALS, we all face it every day. Why does the one guy give up, whereas the next guy continues on ? Is it optimism, "guts", determination, pride, fear of failure ? This three-part series highlights this. I was really impressed at how good and professional our military is. They can create the best warriors without brutalizing them and dehumanizing them the way most countries do it. Great DVD.
Real-life Navy Seals.......2006-01-06
I saw this 2 or 3 years ago on the Discovery Channel and found it interesting. It's sometimes thought Navy Seals are these more than human men; but this shows their real guys who go though rough training to become apart of the one of best fighting units in our armed forces. This is for anyone who likes documenteries or the discovery channel.

Navy SEALs are a top antiterrorist unit that goes anywhere (
SEa,
Air, or
Land) to fight for and protect the American Way of Life.

I highly recommend it!

must have if you are interested in the reality of the SEALs.......2005-06-29
My dad is featured in this. A 34 year veteran of the Navy, and Master Chief SEAL, he knows truth from fiction, and this is not fiction. From the reviews of those who weren't "entertained" enough, they probably saw the Hollywood version one-too-many times. Excellent and realistic portayal of the U.S. Navy SEAL.
keep your cash.......2001-08-05
The Navy SEALs-America's Secret Warriors DVD is exceedinlgy disappointing. The information and facts the guy standing at the fireplace recites are elementary and old to anybody who knows anything about SEALs. THe footage is very outdated and its authenticity dubious. The piece on the Stoner machine gun, however, is good. The DVD could elaborate a lot more on BUD/S, SpecWar tactics, and counter-terrorism ops, and actually include commentary from actual SEALs. Don't be fooled by the "4 in 1" boast-have of that is a simple little quiz reviewing the most rudementary of SEAL facts the DVD just told you. Go down to your local Navy recruiter and watch a video there. Maybe you'll get a poster and keychain too.
Excellent overview of SEAL history, training, tactics!.......1999-09-03
This is a two-part video--one part on SEAL history, training, and tactics, with some actual footage of some Special Warfare operations...from UDT Frogmen at Normandy Beach, to SEAL snatches of the enemy in Vietnam, and SEAL participation in Panama, Granada, and the Gulf War. The second part is an in-depth presentation of the role of the Stoner 63A light machine gun in Vietnam...with its capability of giving a platoon of SEALs the equivalent firepower of an infantry company! Awesome firepower demonstrations are supplemented by the expert testimony of retired SEAL Lt. Cdr. Michael Walsh on the Stoner's capabilities (for more first-hand accounts of such action...the reader is heartily referred to Walsh's book: SEAL!).
