Jean-Claude Van Damme stars as maverick cop Lou Burke, the only lawman tough enough to go undercover in a prison recently plagued by suspicious deaths. Posing as a hardened con, Burke stands up to sadistic guards and makes martial arts mincemeat out of brutal inmates, all the while investigating those mysterious murders. Following the standard Van Damme formula at the height of the actor's B-picture popularity, the script essentially inserts him in a series of increasingly nasty situations from which he then has to kick, punch, and chop his way out. For services rendered, the Muscles from Brussels gets to kiss Cynthia Gibb, who plays a lawyer assigned the dubious task of posing as Burke's wife. With Van Damme safely tucked into his story formula, a slightly more discriminating viewer can find pleasure in a supporting performance from Robert Guillaume (as an aging inmate), while freakier types will enjoy top-drawer nemesis the Sandman (Patrick Killpatrick), a psycho killing machine who forces poor Burke to break a sweat. --Tom Keogh

Death Warrant.......2006-11-10
I really enjoyed this movie. Death Warrant was filled with supense and action. Jean-Claude Van Damme portrays officer Louis Burke who goes undercover to investigate murder and corruption in the prison system. Eventually officer Burke meets up with a convicted murderer that he had arrested and put behind bars.
I did not lose interest with the nonstop suspense and action.
Sincerely,
Renee Ray
Jailhouse Rock n Sock 'Em!.......2005-12-06
Plot: There has been a string of unsolved murders at Harrison Penitentiary. Detective Louis Burke (Jean-Claude Van Damme) is sent undercover as an inmate to investigate. With the help of his assigned "wife" (charatcer Amanda Beckett, played by Cynthia Gibb), he manages to uncover a few dirty secrets about the place. Once he truly gets into the heat of the situation, he discovers that the guards and prison officials themselves might even be involved. The whole scheme is starting to make sense, and that doesn't stay a good thing for long. His presence at the prison is becoming too much of a danger for the conspirors, and he becomes next on the hitlist. But Burke isn't going down easy. At least that's what we think, until an old enemy -- Christian "The Sandman" Naylor (Patrick Kilpatrick) -- is transferred to the prison to finish him off for good. The fight to solve the murder mystery is over, yet the fight for Burkes life is only beginning.
Death Warrant is an action flick. Period. Although the story can be interesting to follow, the true reason anyone would watch this would be for the down'n'dirty mayhem with Van Damme in his usual kick-butt mode. The prison conspiracy is not a huge government cover up, but rather a small ring of corruption hidden from higher officials. So instead of a thriller with a bunch of different suspicious characters involved, we've got Van Damme stuck all alone in the deadly prison without a prayer! That's where the action comes in. This isn't the kind of "blow stuff up" or "shoot em down" popcorn movie, this is hand-to-hand combat with girtty intensity. And the best example for that would be the grand finale: the final fight between The Sandman and Burke (definitely my favorite part). That's where anything goes, and barbaric brawling to the death is the only way out. And on that note, I was particularly fond of Patrick Kilpatrick as The Sandman. He often can be seen in villain-type roles, but this just hits the nail on the head. The only slight complaint I have (and the reason it only hits four stars) is that The Sandman doesn't have enough screen time. I don't want to spoil the storyline, but you can assume that because of his late arrival in the film, he's not the mystery murderer. He's more like an executioner sent to do Burke in. For the parts he does get in the last half of the film -- as well as the first scene in which we see an encounter between Naylor and Burke when Naylor is a free man -- are satisfying, but let's face it, he's one hell of a villain and he needed more show. Regardless, Death Warrant is just what you need if you like a simple yet engaging fight flick. And although the only special feature is a theatrical trailer, the only reason you need to purchase this DVD is the film itself. It's quite impressive, and leaves you with some fond memories of both Van Damme and Kilpatrick. Pick it up!
it kills me.......2005-10-26
The sandman is the star of the show. He cracks me up.
The only question is how did this film get released? It's the greatest comedy I've ever seen and it's meant to be an action film. Send me a dream Burke send me a dream P.S. this film cannot be found on video anywhere that I know of. To sum up this film up Mousey loves it and that says it all.
A LITTLE MEDIOCRE AT FIRST, BUT GIVE IT SOME TIME.......2004-01-07
A COP [VAN DAMME] IS ASSIGNED TO POSE AS A NEW INMATE AT A PRISON TO INVESTIGATE THE REASONS BEHIND A SERIES OF MURDERS THAT'RE HAPPENING AT THE PRISON. IT STARTS OUT KINDA BORING, BUT AFTER A WHILE, IT GETS BETTER. THIS MAY NOT RANK AMONGST THE BEST MOVIES THAT VAN DAMME HAS DONE, BUT IT IS A LOT BETTER THAN MANY OF THE VAN DAMME MOVIES THAT'VE CAME OUT IN RECENT YEARS. IT'S WORTH RENTING IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY SEEN THIS.
WOW!! Van Damne is in prison.......2003-11-29
I liked this movie, filled with a couple of fight scenes. At the end he fights the sandman, across Van Damne kicked his ass. This is a good slambanging Van Damne flick.

Noir Rules.......2004-08-05
i am fairly new to anime so my opinion means very little but i really liked this series hope this helps :P
LETS GET PERSONAL.......2004-06-22
This fourth volume of the action-packed and excellent anime series Noir lets us in for a peek at the personal lives of Kirika and Mireille and starts charting deeper territory. The first episode, "Season of Hell", concerns Kirika. One day as she is out for a stroll with Mireille, she notices a painter making art by the riverside. She begins to paint with him and a relationship begins to blossom between the two. Whether it's romantic or not is up to you. In the second episode, it's Mireille's turn to be front and center as she runs into the uncle that saved her life when she was a child. She loves him but he is also an assassin and they just might be at cross purposes. The last episode on the dvd is a two parter as the two ladies are hired by the Soldats to kill one of the leaders of the Taiwanese Mafia. The problem is that they have their own hired killer who just might be better than Kirika and Mireille. Further complicating things is the return of Choloe, a minion of the Soldats who sometimes seems to be their ally and sometimes their enemy.
This volume was excellent. No surprise there. The animation is good. The digital sound is great. Music good. The series plays more like a film that keeps going and going. That's a good thing. The only complaints I have is that the endings of some of the episodes are telegraphed from a mile away. And maybe that Kirika's outfit, what with her skinny legs and shorts and blue shirt, sometimes reminds me of Beavis from Beavis and Butthead. Well, it all ends at Volume 7.
As usual, the extras were skimpy with a brief interview of the Japanese actress who does Mirielle and some promos. Clean openings and closings. Sketches.
Art, family and a cold blooded killer........2004-06-12
Four episodes, total of 100 minutes, plus extras in the form of sketches, previews and a interview with Kotono Mitsuishi (who is the Japanese voice of Mireille) make this one of the better DVDs of the series. The fold-out has information about the music used in the series.
In the first episode Kirika learns the hard way why it's a bad idea to make friends. In the second episode Mireille learns the hard way that family can be just as dangerous as any foe.
The last two episodes are one story, with a new character, Shaoli - the cold blooded killer in the title. Watch out for her hands.
In these episodes we have a war between Altena, with the Soldats, against the Triads, the Asian crime families. "Noir" is hired by the Soldats to wipe out the heads of the Triads and even Chloe makes an appearance to help out when the Triads counter with Shaoli. Who can you trust?
another good one.......2003-08-31
this is another good noir, mabye not as good as the earlier ones, but good all the same
"That's Why I Told You.".......2003-08-10
When Kirika begins to show an interest in an artist that she meets on the riverbank, Mirielle warns the girl not to get involved with him. When an old enemy of Mirielle's returns to town, she and Kirika are marked, and Mirielle's warning to the young girl is tragically proven when the artist is caught in the crossfire.
Then Mirielle begins to unearth dark secrets from her family's past, concerning Les Soldats, her uncle, and the reason her family was killed.
The mystery deepens when Les Soldats contracts Noir to eliminate a Triad in Taiwan. The Triad is served by a ruthless assassin of extreme skill. Mirielle and Kirika are drawn into an ambush, only to be rescued by Chloe.
After dispatching the Triad's assassin, Chloe bids the other two farewell, with the promise that "Le Grande Retour" was about to happen.
This series is amazing in it's ability to say a great deal without the characters speaking much. Kirika is not a flat, emotionless killer, but rather, a young girl, subject to the whims and fancies of love. We see her emotions most through her eyes, rather than in her words, and we also see her painting along the riverside as well.
Chloe, the deadly killer of Les Soldats, is not without her own emotional moments, such as those where she interacts with Altena, a member of Les Soldats who has designs on Noir, and the organization.
Even Mirielle tells a great deal with a single moment. After the artist is killed, she confronts Kirika, "That's why I told you." Then we see her alone, crying ,"That's why I told you not to do it."
I recommend Noir for everyone who enjoys a serious story with complex characters.
