James Cameron wrote the script for this not-so-futuristic science fiction tale about a former vice cop (Ralph Fiennes) who now sells addicting, virtual reality clips that allow a user to experience the recorded sensations of others. He becomes embroiled in a murder conspiracy, tries to save a former girlfriend (Juliette Lewis), and has a romance with his chauffeur and bodyguard (Angela Bassett). Cameron's ex-wife, director Kathryn Bigelow (Point Break), brought the whole, busy, violent enterprise to the screen, and while the film's socially relevant heart is in the right place, its excesses wear one out. Some of the casting doesn't quite click either: Fiennes isn't really right for his nervous role, and Lewis is annoying (and unbelievable as the hero's much-yearned-for former squeeze). Expect some ugly if daring moments with the virtual reality stuff. --Tom Keogh

3 stars but only for Rafe's hair........2007-05-20
This movie is unmatchable but if you're into hotty Brit actor Rafe then by all means have a look. First of all, mix yourself either a Mojito or a martini...or several. Trust me, you'll need it. The key is to put the "movie" on mute and have the remote at the ready for every time Juliet Whatsherface, Angela Bassett or Tom Sizemore is on-screen. Simply FF. There's no reason to put yourself through that kind of torture. There's also no reason to put yourself through the torture of the clunky and embarrassingly cheesy dialogue. Katherine Bigelow should be ashamed and publicly humilated.
Intense thriller.......2007-05-15
Suspensful, good acting, interesting premise, a little too violent to rate it 5 stars
awesome.......2007-05-07
I remember watching Strange Days when it was in theaters. I loved it then and still love it. The mix of scifi with who done it makes it a great movie for almost anyone.
And this is the world we love to live in.............2007-05-04
I may strike a nerve here, but I have to say this big time. I am glad I didn't spend money on this film as I found it to be way too long, and way below average. This kind of reminded me of watching the 1987 film "Wanted: Dead or Alive". I mean there was no less than 200 spews of profanity in the first 10 minutes of the film. I was beginning to think they were getting off on swearing, and explode into a sexual ecstasy of screams and moans at the rate they were going. The film has the plot on New Year's Eve, 1999, and Los Angeles is a war zone( When wasn't it ever a war zone people?), and the drug of the day is a head piece that allows you to play back certain scenes with certain people, and it more, or less makes it a hot commodity, and everyone tries to cash in on the thing, and in the long run it causes strife, and conflict in a community that's already in a fire of decay, anger, hate, and any other negative, and critical thing you can imagine. The National Guard is out patroling the streets along with the city police, and the rogue police as well, and they can't be trusted either. One ex-cop turned dealer in the head piece is trying to help rescue a ex-girlfriend out of the clutches of a pimp/ record producer, and prevent the Millenium from going bust at the same time, and it's hard to tell who's on your side. This is what the world wants though. We have developed the theory that Fear is the beginning of enlightment, and therefore the more fearful we are then the more smart we are. We don't take time for friends, family, to enjoy life, or appreciate the beauty of the world. That's what the head piece is for we say, but guess what? The head piece also can be like a bad batch of acid which can kill you if you're not careful. Ralph Fiennes and Angela Baseheart give a convincing performance as you would see them in love with one another, and in a way they may have had the feelings repressed way down inside of one another as Fiennes when he was a cop rescued Baseheart's family especially her son, so the feelings were there, and they build during the film until thier passionate kiss at the end which to me was the highlight of the movie. The rest of it was a weak plot where excessive swearing has to give it meat, the other performances were at best lackluster, and just the fact that it shows the world as a place that I already know it is didn't make me feel any better. Not even worth a $1.00 price to watch. I wanted to watch it back when it first came out in the theaters, but now I'm glad I didn't.
obsessively horrific.......2007-05-02
since I cannot give this film a 'no' star, which clearly is what it deserves, it will garner a '1' star for the magical talent of Ray Fiennes. Despite that the film is non-stop boredom, fast paced 'huh's?' and a tendancy to leave the room multiple times, without being angry or irritated that you missed even a second of it. As a true fanatic of sci-fi (Andromedia Strain, Logan's Run, Clockwork Orange, 2001, 2010, Flatliners, Gattica, etc) I have to say, "what were they thinking?"
This film is without question one of the worst movies ever made, and other reviewers that gave this four or five stars for its cinematic prose and appreciation to fine electrifying cinematic cultism, need to get their head examined, as they as movie goers were on their own drug induced-kinetic stupor while watching it.
Written by James Cameron. Indeed, as bad as his help in rendering, yet again, the awful version that he threw together with Soderbergh of Solaris, and having Clooney play Mr. Klevin was disrespectful to Stanislaw Lem. Both, equally a waste of time, IMHO.

Pay Attention!.......2007-06-12
This was well researched and well presented. It helped a lot that Edward Norton was the narator but the topic at large is very concerning.
Junk Science.......2007-04-18
Opening Arctic section strung together by a chain of assertions based on speculation with no hard scientific data to justify conclusions.
A couple of these were:
1. Mid winter rain is now common in the arctic
2. Snowfall has significantly increased
As a resident of AK, I know that neither of these is true.
At the opening of the program the question was asked whether the decline of the Porcupine Herd is due to natural cycles or global warming, but the question was never answered. They failed to examine population variances at all and instead went straight to the assertion that global warming is causing the demise of the Porcupine Herd. What are the historic cycles of this herd? How does it compare to other caribou herd populations? What factors affect these cycles?
Couldn't watch any more!
Strange and Fascinating!.......2007-03-08
This series is an excellent and engaging introduction to a number of serious environment issues. A new kind of documentary that will appeal and generate dialogue across a wide age range. I co-lead an environmental stewardship program for 4th-8th graders... appropriate from this group and above.
Good content, but needs a more attractive style.......2006-10-29
I am a HUGE fan of Edward Norton and the environment (not necessarily in the same order as stated). I worry a lot about our mother Earth and the days to come. I think after establishing the strategic balance of horror (nuclear weapons) humans are now able to look around and see the new challenge.
Today we don't live the struggle for peace among the world's superpowers. However, we live the struggle to clean up our environment. Taking care of the environment hasn't been a priority in our conscious since we came to being. Now, we started noticing the effects of our reckless past. Everything is changing faster around us and we have to act fast or the results might be grim.
It's really sad to see that caring the environment has become a political issue in our country. Some people use the environment for their own political sake and not as an urgent societal need. If it came to me, I would make protecting the environment a national Amendment that unites us all. After all, what good can come from freedom if there's no place for us to enjoy it?
Kudos to Norton and to National Geographic for their good work. I wish next time they present more material in a slightly more attractive style. But after all, this was a great presentation.
Thank you!
Strange days? Really?.......2005-12-31
These four episodes make it quite apparent what's happening on Planet Earth. Human beings--we-- are becoming the instruments of our own self-destruction. The sensible thing to do would be to simply put a halt to our brainless ways, but more people are concerned with self-advancement or making a profit than leaving behind an inhabitable world for our posterity. There's no excuse for polluted drinking water. Overfishing is irresponsible and unacceptable. Killing off the one predator that can keep an entire ecosystem from collapsing has embarassing consequences. Species invade and wreak havoc in places where they don't belong because the people pushing world transportation and globalization have little concern for the delicate equillibriums of life on Earth. Toxic chemicals have no place on my dinner plate. And global warming is not a hoax; it is real, it is dangerous, and it is our fault. Gone are the days when we can pursue biology and environmental science for fun or because we think animals are cute; now we must pursue it and get our heads into our survival, or our progeny will have every reason to desecrate our remains or machine gun us all for leaving behind nothing but a smoggy wasteland for them. I hate it when my fellow AP Environmental Science classmates walk into the classroom with anything but grave, urgent expressions on their faces. Instead of acting like we have a grand task before us, they goof off and think it strange when I do not goof off with them. I highly recommend this two-DVD set to everyone because everyone's planet is everyone's business and everyone's responsibility.

SADDLE UP SADDLE PALS!!!.......2007-05-25
This is most likely the best Roy Rogers dvd on the market today. 3 restored movies from ROAN GROUP ARCHIVAL ENTERTAINMENT ( on one disc ) and they're all winners!
DAYS OF JESSE JAMES (1939) directed by Joe Kane has Roy & Gabby siding with Jesse played by Don "Red" Barry.
ROLL ON TEXAS MOON (1946) directed by William Whitney is one of my personal favorites as Roy tries to clear up a scrap between the sheepmen and cattlemen. I like when Gabby ( a cattleman ) is always being followed by Dale's pet lamb. He yells, " ...quit follerin' me ya walkin' lamb chop! "...This is the uncut theatrical version.
KING OF THE COWBOYS (1943) also directed by Joe Kane is the big WINNER here. Combining several source prints this version runs longer than it's original theatrical version & also includes alternate scenes as a bonus.
All 3 films LOOK GREAT & it's a real treat to watch them presented as such.
Another great bonus is a Trucolor short of Roy welcoming Roy Rogers Riders Club members to this weeks movie at the local theater.
All in all this dvd is A MUST for all Roy Rogers Fans!!!
As Gabby would say," That's the ticket by crackie!".
BUY THIS.
Good Old Fashioned Western.......2000-09-02
A great trio of films with the BEST cowboy EVER. Being a Brit who grew up going to Saturday morning pictures, its great to be able to see some of his films in SUPERB clarity and pretty good sound. A nice touch was the Roy Rogers Club short which is also the great thing about DVD, you get a lot for your money. All in all, a great deal and good films. Please keep them coming!

Interesting as a cultural history of the 1930's.......2003-11-02
A Great Depression morality tale, wherein the outlaws are really good boys who love their mother, and the capitalists and banker are really black-hearted crooks who prey on the innocent. I'd give it one star for its sheer tedium but a very youthful Roy and Trigger look terrific and who doesn't like Gabby Hayes? As usual in these old oaters, the horseriding is spectacular. Roy has one love song, while playing the pump organ. The movie inspired me to look up the history of the James gang to find out what they were actually like.

A Surprise Delight!.......2007-04-25
My daughters kept raving about a show they watched on television and one day "FORCED" me to watch it. I did and I was hooked. I still haven't seen the end of this series and every day I Tivo it in anticipation. Very entertaining family program.
Super the best saturday show I ever saw.......2007-04-04
I love sci-fi and this show was it,great for weekend in the late moring when your're tired of the cartoon flare that's on.Private school fun lots of great sci-fi thing happening with great mystery. All the character are fun to watch from the start.I'm sorry to see this show off the air.And I know they won't bring it back but we do have dvd.
love this show.......2006-12-02
This is really a good show. I have been checking the internet for the DVD. I don't have kids either, and I think it appeals to the whole family.
Love Black Hole High!.......2006-07-11
I have two very young children who sometimes watch the show with me but I watch it because I like it. :0) My favorite episode is the one where Lucas becomes the Lucster when his DNA changes... or maybe the one where Corrine goes through the looking glass...or, actually I love every episode! I hope it comes out on DVD soon. I want my kids to be able to watch it too when they are a little older.
I can't get enough of the show........2006-07-08
The show is the greatest show i've ever seen. I'm a girl who is into romance so the Lucas liking Josie and the Josie liking Vaughn really appeals to me. But it really just sucks you into what's happening and leaves you with questions.
