Jean-Claude Van Damme gets a kick out of himself in this clever if barely competent action thriller, in which the likable Muscles from Brussels plays twin brothers separated at birth by a murderous Hong Kong crime syndicate. While the genial Chad lives the posh life as a California aerobics instructor, his sibling Alex chews fat cigars back in China, running a mahjong parlor and making some extra bucks as a smuggler. A quarter-century after being sent to different corners of the globe, they reunite and decide to seek vengeance against the cartel that killed their parents. From there the story and action set pieces are fairly predictable, but that hardly matters since the film's real appeal is in the amusing way the two Van Dammes deal with sibling rivalry, especially where women are concerned. Van Damme, seeking his box-office breakthrough at the time, might have received more of a commercial boost had this movie simply been directed with greater professionalism. The lighting, editing, and shot selection are often ridiculously below the standard of low-budget features. But Double Impact does have its compensations, especially in the casting of leather-clad Cory Everson and exemplary villain Bolo Yeung as a pair of killers who cross the twins' path. --Tom Keogh

These brief features--barely an hour apiece--continue the adventures of the Bogard Brothers, Terry and Andy, from the popular video game. In "Legend of the Hungry Wolf," the adolescent brothers witness the murder of their father by Geese Howard. After 10 years of intensive martial arts training, they're ready to seek revenge, but Master Tung will teach only one of them the secret Hurricane Punch. He chooses Terry, who draws strength from the chi of the Earth. Along the way, the brothers meet kickboxer Joe Higashi and Lily, the mysterious barroom queen. An injured Terry is traumatized when he loses a fight to evil German aristocrat Wolfgang Krauser in "New Battle." He binges on self-pity and scotch until his confidence is restored by a feisty kid and the ghosts of Master Tung and Lily. Ninja girl Mai Shiranui provides comic relief and jiggle interest. In both films, Andy and Joe rush precipitously into battle and get the cookies beaten out of them, leaving Terry to destroy the enemy. Although Terry kills Geese in "Hungry Wolf," he's alive at the end of "New Battle," leaving open the possibility of further sequels. Anime villains have more lives than cats. Not rated: suitable for ages 13 and up for considerable violence, alcohol use, and sexual humor. --Charles Solomon

    Description

4 out of 5 stars Great Anime, Great Deal.......2006-08-01

I enjoy anime where people fight in Giant Robots or fight with super powers. Fatal Fury Double Impact satifies the latter in a major way.

    3 out of 5 stars Fatal faulk.......2005-06-12

I like the video arcade games better then this second movie. Capcom needs some work.

    4 out of 5 stars First >_ <, Second @_@.......2004-06-15

The first Fatal Fury was very cheesy and the animation was off. It did not hold true to the characters in terms of looks and character (except Terry, of course).

Now, the second Fatal Fury was downright awesome. Terry, Tony, Andy, and Joe all are developed so beautifully and in such a great plot. I don't know who they got to do Krauser's character, but by gone, they did an excellent job. I love it that he was not so easily beat; it demonstrated how powerful he really was ('cause he was such a cheater in the game!)

If you can find the second one on DVD by itself, go ahead and get it; it is my personal opinion that the first one is not worth the money because of how poorly it its developed.

4 out of 5 stars The first one is mediocre, the second is excellent.......2003-11-02

These two OVAs are an hour a piece and revolving around the same video game franchise. So how do we decide on which?

The first OVA is your typical game-to-movie. It squishes as many characters as it can into one piece, and mainly tries to put in as much fighting as possible. There isn't much in the way of plot, just characters duking out moves one by one. As usual, there's a fighting competition the main characters enter and, as usual, things get heated and moved to the bad guy's terrain. If you've seen this sort of formula before, you've seen them all.

The second OVA is different. Even if it still shows all the characters from the game, it has two thing the first OVA didn't: plot and character development. It does it much better than any other game-to-movies I've seen. Its as if they took every thing they heard was wrong with the first OVA and improved on it. They do a very good job, and the one hour OVA has all the qualities of a real film, with the exception of perhaps theatrical quality, but the animation is good enough for you to forget that.

Basically, they are all around good OVAs, but one is mediocre and saved by the second. Who knew a sequel could improve the original so well?

    4 out of 5 stars Great but not a PS2 compatible.......2002-04-12

The only problem I have with this is I have to go to some other room besides mine to see this DVD.

4 out of 5 stars should have done a doublemint twin commercial too.......2007-01-15

There are several reasons why this film is one of my fav Van Damme films ever, and 2 twin brothers played by Van Damme is just part of the reason. Double Impact also gives us a decent plot and some great baddies, including everyone's favorite "Bolo Young" who has played the villain in numerous films such as Bloodsport, Enter The Dragon, Breathing Fire and Tiger Claws to name a few.

Van Damme's two roles are identical twin brothers by appearance, yet completely opposite by personality. The one brother, Chad, has been raised in France & California, and looks like the Zack Morris of muscles. The o ther brother, Alex, is definetly the much cooler of the two, with a touch of bad guy in himself and much cooler talkin. The interaction between these two are fun to watch, and probably had some success in the film, since "Replicant" was made several years later, also starring 2 Van Damme's with opposite personalities.

Bolo Young fans may want this movie just for him. While he barely has any lines, if any (and he never does in any films), he's just a dirty guy in this flick. With a nasty facial scar and dressed in the bad guy black suit, his presence is known, leading up to final fight with the Zack Morris Van Damme. The fight is short, but sweet. Yes, we get to see his ridiculousy crazy pecks in action.

The rest of the movie is not bad, but nothing spectacular. For a B-movie, this is one of the better one's The acting is so-so and the script is eh. Directing, ediitng, lighting could have been better but thats what you get with a lower budget film. I think Van Damme fans will still be very pleased, and no doubt this is one of his more enjoyable films. Stay away from anything made after 2000 if you want great classic Van Damme, the earlier films are where its at, and Double Impact is a great choice.

Bother brothers played by Van Damme. I love this movie, probally my favorite Van Damme movie. Anyway The mother and Father are murdered and the twins are seperated. After years they finally come together to seek revenge on those who murdered their parents.

3 out of 5 stars not the best.......2006-04-06

Usually Jean-Claude's films are excellent (except for Street Fighter)but there was something missing from this film. Its not that bad but not the best.I hope he gets back on his feet.

This film is a true classic. Story is a bit slow, I kinda did't like it to much. The film was almost like his other 80's film but still I thought it was more like a "Ladys soap opera". It Some what has some awesome action in the movie.

--Tom Keogh

5 out of 5 stars WOW DANG ONE OF THE BEST MOVE FOR SHORE.......2007-05-08

NOW I COULD EASYLY SAY THIS WILL GO DOWN AS ONE OF THE GRATEST MOVE EVER MADE IN THE WORLD THAT IS SO FOR SHORE & THAT IS PUTTING IT LIGHTLY

5 out of 5 stars One Damme Good Movie.......2006-05-19

This movie to me is a golden classic. You have one brother (Chad) a ladies guy that uses his martial arts to fight and the other brother (Alex) street [...] that uses guns and martial arts.

          2 out of 5 stars Cool Film!!!.......2005-11-24

This film is a true classic. Story is a bit slow, I kinda did't like it to much. The film was almost like his other 80's film but still I thought it was more like a "Ladys soap opera". It Some what has some awesome action in the movie.

This is one of those films that if there is nothing else to watch on tv then you can pop this DVD in and kill some time with it.
