Years before the fast-food chain hired a talking chihuahua as its official spokeshound, Taco Bell got some high-profile product placement in this dopey thriller set in the year 2032, when the sprawling megacity of "San Angeles" has banned violence and profanity, and where virtually all the restaurants are Taco Bells. (So much for democracy!) Sylvester Stallone plays an ex-cop who's been thawed out after 36 years of imprisonment for manslaughter, and Wesley Snipes plays his nemesis who also emerges from deep-freeze and proceeds to wreak havoc. It's not nearly as funny as the similarly plotted Austin Powers,; but this special-effects-laden comedy-thriller does have a few highlights, including the pre-stardom Sandra Bullock as the cop-trainee who teaches Stallone proper behavior (and sexual etiquette) in the future's conservative society. Co-starring is Rob Schneider as a frantic sidekick who matches Stallone's one-liners with idiotic wit. --Jeff Shannon

Take out your Aggression.......2007-06-21
The only reason I own this is for the times I want to see a great kick b*&t sequence, and Wesly Snipes definitely provides several!
barely mediocre.......2007-05-08
This is the only Sylvester Stallone movie I ever saw in its entirety, and that was because I was stuck on a bus trip between Chengdu and Chongking. It is pure formula junk, with not a jot of originality or anything that rises about banal violence, simplistic good guys and bad guys, and spectacular effects. I would not recommend this to anyone who wants more than the crudest, most brainless Hollywood entertainment, but then, that is why I have avoided Stallone films.
Amazing.......2007-03-31
This movie offers an amazing and stunning view of a totalitarian society in the future. Wesley snipes does a great job at playing the villain. The story is told with a comedic twist that makes it so enjoyable to watch.

DEMOLITION MAN STRIKES BACK..........2007-01-04
If you are any kind of fan of Sylvester Stallone, you just have to get this movie into your collection!! He does his usual start to finish movie bang-up job of beating up on the bad guys, finding a love interest, and somehow "winning" in the end. Wesley Snipes just does a superb job portraying the "bad guy"!! He is a very ill-tempered killing machine with no regard to anyone's views. After being reprogrammed, while in cryostasus, he emerges as the ultimate killing machine wrecking havoc on a now peaceful society. So, now they have to go into the cryostasus prison and thaw out the ultimate cop. Yep, that cop is Stallone. As he gets re-educated on today's society practices, he must show the peaceful police officers of a new age and time, why he is the only police officer that may restore peace, while taking "Simon" (Snipes) down. It is a nonstop roller coaster of madness and mayhem as Sly finally gets his man and wins the tests of wills with Simon. Cool looking future world too.

For Die-Hards Only.......2007-03-28
I was actually at a show from this tour and it seemed a lot better than represented here.
This is cool for a time capsule, and there are some okay performances of some songs, but they're undercut by the bad mix and iffy camera work.
Oh, and then those horns. Thank God THAT idea never took hold after this tour. Eeesh.
The only thing worse than the horns was Sting's foot-synth which he uses on a couple of songs. The effect, in a word: tragic. It sounds more like a car alarm than a good musical idea.
Far, far superior is the Synchronicity concert--buy that.
AND wait for "Police Around the World" to come out on DVD. That is the best document of early Police and has killer performances from all over the world.
Much better performance than the Synchronicity concert.......2007-03-09
Excellent performance, I especially liked how the last song (So Lonely) came out. One of the best live versions I've seen /heard of this song. Although the sound quality is not as good as that of the Synchronicity DVD, overall I think this is a much better performance (at least Sting's voice does not sound hoarse in this one).
Would someone please release a definitive Police dvd!.......2007-03-09
This DVD is good, but only because the Police have not released anything better. The sound is uneven (to say the least) in spots. For example, during Message in a Bottle, you can barely hear Andy's guitar as the sythns dominate. Also, Stewart Copeland is certainly not shown enough. There are portions of the disc where you can see all of Sting and Andy but only maybe a quick flash of Stewart's hands. You can see more of Stewart on Driven to Tears, but unfortunately, it seems like Stewart may have forgotten how to play the song for the first half of it. However, by the second of half of the song, Stewart really finds his groove, and makes this track probably the highlight of the disc. Unfortunately, the disc really does seem to focus almost exclusively on Sting for a disproportional amount of time. A lot of reviewers have made a big deal over the horns, but they really are not that prominent. There are portions where you cannot turn off the Korean subtitles (during the stage banter), but it is minimal and not very distracting.
Oh My Horn!.......2006-11-20
Yikes! The addition of the horn section to The Police sound was not the best idea Sting ever forced upon Stewart & Andy. I personally prefer the original power trio magic- and I suspect most fans would agree.
The direction is odd... a lot of strange camera angles that are not completely unwelcome, but with most of the 'standard' camera set-ups going unused, you have to wonder what the director was thinking. The coverage of Stewart makes him seem like a hired hand. Honestly, the horn section gets better treatment!
The band is not firing on all cylinders, but if you are a hard core fan like myself... you just have to check it out! The mix is a bit off during the beginning (Sting's Taurus pedals drown out Andy's guitar for a while!) but things level out. I couldn't get the Korean subtitles to turn off, but don't let that stop you. They are only present when Sting speaks in between songs. (Also note that a few parts of this were showed on the old VHS 'From Outlandos to Synchronicities.')
Having said all of this, the good outweighs the bad... but only if you are a die hard fan. You do get to check out 'Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic' with Andy performing the piano part on his guitar. Interesting!
not bad.......2006-08-31
It's hard to find good "Ghost" material out there. This was most likely some kind of pay-per-view special in England, but the band sounds pretty tight. I was never too crazy about the horn section on this tour, but it's certainly interesting.

When master villain Simon Phoenix (Wesley Snipes) emerges from decades in CryoPrison, he finds a serene society of 2032 ready for the taking. Sandra Bullock co-stars in Demolition Man (Side A), "the most entertaining futuristic action film since the original Terminator" (Ralph Novak, People). Next, Stallone stars as hard-luck big-rig trucker Lincoln Hawk and reaches out to grasp the World Armwrestling Championship in Over the Top (Side B). Relying on wits and willpower, Hawk tries to rebuild his life by capturing the first-place prize money - and the love of the son (David Mendenhall) he abandoned years earlier. Love Over the top........2007-06-13
I love Over the top, a oldie but goodie.
Both movies are great!.......2007-05-19
Ignore the other review about some guy talking over the movie. This film has a commentary track in addition to the movie soundtrack & the guy didn't know how to turn off the 2nd track.
Demolition Man is great. Haven't seen Over The Top yet but I'm sure I'll enjoy it. Oh & this is a flipper disc with one movie per side of the disc.
Demolition Man? Over The Top.......2006-11-05
Demolition Man was bad. It wasn't like the movie should be. You had someone explaining everything through the whole movie and could not hear the actors. That ruined the movie. I wanted the movie to replace my old VHS, but I can't now with that crap I bought.

Searching for new directions, Sylvester Stallone starred in this farcical, 1993 SF piece about an ex-cop (Stallone) freed from 36 years of forced hibernation to help catch a criminal (Wesley Snipes) who released himself from a similar incarceration. The futuristic story finds Los Angeles a sea of Taco Bells and enforced peace, and within that satiric overview Stallone's character becomes a gun-toting fish out of water. The film plays like a live-action cartoon, and while there is nothing particularly wrong with that, Demolition Man is a rather flat experience. The irony of a peaceable society that both requires and despises its bloody saviors has been captured far more profoundly in movies like Dirty Harry. Sandra Bullock costars. The DVD release has optional full-screen and widescreen presentations, production notes, theatrical trailer, Dolby sound, optional Spanish soundtrack, and optional French and Spanish subtitles. --Tom Keogh

The DVD release has optional full-screen and widescreen presentations, production notes, theatrical trailer, Dolby sound, optional Spanish soundtrack, and optional French and Spanish subtitles. --Tom Keogh

Satire at its best.......2007-03-11
If this flick doesn't demonstrate the absurdity of political correctnous, none will.

SANDRA BULLOCK STEALS THE SHOW..........2006-05-29
This is an enormously entertaining film that is slyly intelligent, chock full of action, and quite humorous. The time is the future, 2032 AD. The location is California, and the police just ain't what they used to be, as the future is a sanitized, politically correct world, where only the most benign behavior is the standard by which all live. Even bad language is a no no. The police of the future have nothing in common with the police of the past. Guns are outlawed, as is all physical violence. Los Angeles is no more, having merged with San Diego into a new entity known as San Angeles, which is ruled by the architect of the new society, Dr. Raymond Cocteau, who is played with sage aplomb by the late Nigel Hawthorne. He is not, however, all that he seems.
This is, indeed, a "brave new world" and Lenina Huxley, played with delicious comic abandon by Sandra Bullock, is a police woman who waxes nostalgic for the past. The LAPD is now the SAPD. Her colleague, Alfredo Garcia, played with Eagle Scout earnestness by Benjamin Bratt, epitomizes the new order of things. He is a Dudley-do-right without the wherewithal to set right what is soon to go wrong. His is a future where everyone's whereabouts are known to the police, as all are tagged with a device that allows the police monitor their whereabouts. His is a future where all obey instantly, and civility is the standard of the day. His is a future where all address each other by their full names. His is a future where meat is no longer a food item, the use of salt is illegal, and corporate franchise wars have left Taco Bell to reign supreme as THE restaurant of the time. His is a future where sex is a non-contact activity.
The violent past intrudes on this sanitized future in the persona of Simon Phoenix, played with over-the-top abandon by a blond Wesley Snipes, who, like a phoenix arising out of the ashes, is freed from his cryogenic prison and unleashed upon an unprepared SAPD. Clueless in the face of such testosterone charged violence, the SAPD arrange to have twentieth century super lawman John Spartan (Sylvester Stallone) released from his own cryogenic prison in hopes that he will be able to deal with the chaotic nature of Simon Phoenix and stop his senselessly violent rampage. Lenina Huxley is teamed up with Spartan in order to help him adjust to this brave new world. She is over-the-top with happiness at this development, as her fondness for nostagia will be sated by the opportunity to get up close and personal with a blast from the past.
Needless to say, Spartan and Phoenix clash, as old warriors are wont to do. There is enough violence, mayhem, and action to satisfy the most die hard fans of this genre. What happens will not disappoint the viewer, as old scores are settled, inequitable situations are righted, and a brave new world gets a little fine tuning for the better. This action flick, sci-fi crossover does not fail to entertain, and it does so more intelligently than most films in this genre. Make no mistake, however, while Wesley Snipes gives her a run for her money, it is Sandra Bullock who steals the show with her drolly delivered dialogue, her deft comedic timing and innate charm. Sylvester Stallone, as wooden as ever, is not even a blip on the radar
