The Legend of the Drunken Master.......2007-06-15

This is Jackie Chan's best movie. It is full of nonstop action and drama. Jackie Chan explodes with action in this movie. Some great action scenes, sewn in with a beautiful story and great music make this a Jackie Chan hit. I can't stop watching the ending fight. It is a great scene, and the movie was very well done. This is a vital part of any Jackie Chan collection.

This movie has heart. Jackie Chan does his usual un usual stuff, and hits the target.
The story is touching and and action packed. A great buy for any one who likes Jackie Chan, and wants to see some of his earlier stuff. Which I think is better any way.

The ultimate "Wow" movie.......2007-02-05

This movie is a non-stop adventure in "how did he do that" and "can he top this". While movies like Crouching Tiger and Heroe were as notable for their special effects as the stunts, Legend of Drunken Master shows that physical grace, athletic prowess, and, yes, guts can create an eye-popping experience for modern movie goers. This movie builds on one great set piece after another but when Chan's character really starts drinking....WATCH OUT! The last fight scene in the factory will have you rewinding and laughing in delight....it's that good. Highly recommended.

Drunken Masterpiece.......2006-10-09

I have always been a fan of Kung fu flicks, I am the geek that discusses who could beat who in a fantasy fight for god knows what reasons. This movie (along with the previous drunken master) made me realize how intense his action sequences are and it propelled me on an entire new level of respect for Jackie. He does what he does best, and then some, while he is more famous for his fights, Jackie and the supporting characters displayed so much talent and emotion that it kept me glued to the movie without blinking. The movie is a perfect blend of comedy and action, there is never a dull moment in LoDM...

It's also fun to watch it intoxicated!

One of my favorite Kung-Fu Movies.......2007-04-12

If you are looking for an old school 80's style Kung-Fu movie with great choreography, a variety of styles (crane, snake, tiger claw, etc), and the English dubbing with Chinese mouth movements (sometimes continuing after an English sentence is completed), then this is the movie for you. The only thing missing is the high flying acrobatics such as jumping on the roof of a house. In addition to the above, the movie includes the amazing stunts and use of remote items (chairs stunts, buckets, brooms, etc.) that are common among Jackie Chan films. Drunken Master is a great movie that shows Jackie Chan's skills as a marital artist and the breadth of styles he is familiar with. Bravo!

I know you have to take the dialog and acting.............2007-02-05

.....with a grain of salt but, except for the amazing final fight scene and the hilarious Drunken Master himself, this movie was un-funny and almost unwatchable at times. Too bad, because we loved Chan's second Drunken Master movie but this one left us very disappointed.

An Amazing Chan Adventure.......2006-11-10

This was truly a classic martial arts film. It combined the prowess and acting ability of Jackie Chan with the excellent direction and choreography of Yuen Wo Ping. If you've seen "The Legend of Drunken Master", that's only the second half of the story. I strongly suggest you see how it all starts with this movie.

Jackie at his best.......2006-11-01

This is probably my favorite Jackie Chan film of all time. Disregard the recycled story line and focus on his amazing athletic ability and the expertly choreagraphed fight sequences - this is what made Jackie great. The one trait I most admired about him was his very clever use of props during these scenes. He would take a seemingly ordinary object and use it to his advantage during a fight. But also in less violent moments as well...a lighthearted chopstick duel over a piece of chicken. Excellent. In this age of blue-screen and CG, I am so glad we have these early films when everything was done right then and there on the set. Film making at it's best.

Disappointed & Misleading Photo on DVD.......2007-06-03

I have never felt the need to write a review until now... I loved Jackie Chan in most of his newer movies. I loved "Drunken Master", so decided to purchase the DVD. In reviewing all the similar titles which came up on the Amazon search, I chose the one with the cover photo that resembled the movie. What a total disappointment when I began to watch it!

It was NOT the movie I expected. Many of us do NOT know that Jackie Chan made several versions of this same movie and title. If this is the OLD first version of his movie, why is he using a recent photo?

After more careful investigation it seems that I actally wanted the "Legend of Drunken Master", but the photo on the cover is of a very young Jackie Chan. Because I was fooled before, I am now very hesitant on purchasing any of Jackie Chan's DVD.

when i bought this title i was expecting a jacky chan movie but it turned out a jet lee movie though dvd cover indicates jacky chan but the actual content is not

yes its a kung fu classic and Jackie Chan's personal favorite movie, but the video and audio quality are unwatchable, seek out the remastered edition and skip this one.

Drunken Master I.......2001-05-09

This is a good movie. Many are complaining that this movie is not Drunken Master II. It is Drunken Master I, just like it says on the cover. This is a movie with alot of fight scenes and action scenes, although it is slow in the beginning. The style used in this kung fu comedy is the Drunken Eight Immortals, it is a very comical and effective style. This movie demonstrates it well.

Outstanding fight scenes, poor quality DVD.......2001-04-24

I am a big Jackie Chan fan, so I bought this with high expectations. While the fight scenes are spectacular and well staged (an average of a fight every 5-10 minutes), the big disappointment in the is the quality of the transfer to DVD. The picture is blurry at times. Another disappointment is the sound. It is dubbed with very poor quality. Ironically it was very similar to the Kung Fu movies they used to show on television years ago, the very ones that made me a big fan of the genre. It was a trip down memory lane. I am still glad I bought it as a better version is not available and it is better than nothing.

Who wasn't in this movie?.......2006-03-06

This is definitely having as part of your collection if your a MA fan. The other reviewer did a good job of telling the story.

The only reason I gave this movie a 4 was because the flashback scene lasts WAY too long, and the final fights are way too cut-up. The really good fights have about a cut a second, it's pretty sad. If it didn't have all the cuts, I would have to give it a 5/5 even with the bad storyline.

Also- the version of this movie that I have is from Tai Seng and is a VERY good picture widesceened and with dual languages.

Drunken Masterpiece.......2005-01-18

The cast of The Mystery Of Chess Boxing and Seven Grandmasters (Jack Long, Lee Yi Min, Mark Long) returns for another great non-stop kung fu flick. If you have seen the two previously mentioned films then you know that this movie will be nothing short of awesome. It is one fight after the next displaying many different styles, but mostly the mastery of drunken boxing. It also ranks side by side with both of Yuen Woo Ping's films, Drunken Master and Dance of the Drunk Mantis. Briefly, the story is of the northern and southern masters of drunken boxing, Beggar Su(Lee Yi Min) and Fan Ta Pei(Jack Long), being reunited after 30 years and recalling their meeting and training of the drunken style. Most of the film is a flashback of when they were young.

Jack Long and Lee Yi Min are amazing as always, performing with great style and speed. Throw in a final fight scene with Mark Long, the Ghostface Killer in The Mystery of Chess Boxing, and this movie could not get much better. There is as much, if not more, drunken style performed here than in any other film I've seen. Although, it does lack a little of the style that is in Yuen Woo Ping's directed performances(Jackie Chan, Hwang Jang Lee).

As for the DVD itself, the picture is full screen but filmed well enough to not cut off much of what is in the scene. The film quality is average for an old school kung fu movie that is not digitally remastered. At least it doesn't claim to be remastered like nearly all others that really are not. The audio is english dubbed only and again is average.

I recommend this movie to any martial arts collection, and also The Mystery Of Chess Boxing and Seven Grandmasters. If you like one, you'll like the others.

This is the film that Master Lau Kar Leung went to make after leaving the set of drunken master 2(with Jackie Chan). I think he was fired but doubt he would ever admit it and no way in hell I would question him. This movie here has to be one of the top 3 or 4 worst movies Lau has ever directed. There is no drunken style in this movie except a couple of mentions of it, seriously. There was one scene where I cracked a smile but that was all the enjoyment I got out of this movie. So we have Gordon Liu in this, along with superstars Andy Lau, Lau Kar Leung, Michelle Reis, Simon Yam , and Adam Cheng. Then we have some white guy who is supposed to be the main bad guy and he is like 5 foot 5 inches weighing in at maybe 140 pounds. Too many problems to go over but I will sum it up by saying that Andy Lau was the ONLY character that I enjoyed. When Andy Lau is the only good thing in a Lau Kar Leung film, we have serious problems.

Drunken Master 3.......2001-08-16

This movie was poor, but has nothing to with the Drunken Master or Drunken Master2, the story was a bit far in relationship with anything relating to the drunken style of fighting. I would not recommend this to any person.

BREAKOUT OF OPRESSION-I may have actually liked this more than Drunken Master 3 but it is still a horrible movie. One thing to look out for is Dean Shek in a non comedic role. He is like the person we feel sorry for in this. The one thing to watch this movie for is Gordon Liu. This may actually be his first movie. I am not going to go over the story becasue their really was none. I will tell you that I saw the Lau brohter's credited for the action direction and the action is very well choreographed. Nice hand movements but that was literally the only good thing about this movie. Hey, at least I liked about 5 minutes of this movie.

I was stuck between a 1 and a 2 but I just can't allow myself to give Master lau the lowest rating possible(but he deserves it).

Is this movie a comedy or a kung fu movie?.......2007-03-27

I see many flaws in this film.

1. "You're a rat and a trap."

2. "Do you have any proof of his death." Said the antagonist. Ninja assassin reply's "Yea, I brought you his bottle."

3. A woman's husband dies and she asks the drunken kid "Please make me laugh, again." Drunken kid reply's "One dollar for an hour and 5 dollars for all day."

4. A girl gets raped by a co star of the film then she calls him nice then he jets.

5. The girl who was raped finds the rapist and then she feeds him.

6. At the final battle, the bad guy is trying to kill drunken kid with drum high hats; Then the rapist saves the day.

7. Oh lastly, the drunken kid does not get drunk.

If this was a kung fu movie, I have evidence that it is not a good one. If it is a comedy, then it was a brilliant one. So if it is a comedy- four stars, because they did their job. But Video Asia has promoted is a martial artist film and it's horrible. Also, this is a spoof of Jackie Chan's Drunken Master and Sammo Hung's Spooky Encounter.

The Blood Ninja.......2007-01-11

Accidentally discovering the operations of the Blood Ninja gangsters, a mischievous young man masters the skills of the Drunk Fist and proceeds to fight against them. But the gangsters join forces, vowing to kill him before the young master destroys them all. Good one but there are better titles!

This one seemed like it was going to be pretty good. Wong Fei Hung music at the start and a guy who seems to be decent at acrobatics. Then he fights the Blood ninja gang, a minute into the movie! Then I struggle through a bit more and Eagle Han shows up as one of the heroes!!!! So basically it becomes pretty much unwatchable whenever the "Drunken Kid" fights because he is so bad with the choreopgraphy, but then Eagle Han starts lighting people up with his fist forms and unbeatable kicks. There is a hilarious moment in the finale when the bad guy uses these stupid symbols to throw at the 2 heroes, then he runs away. Drunken Kid screams out for him to come back then immediately the villian comes back and says "I'm back". Now if anyone knows what was up with Eagle Han putting his finger into Drunken Kid's belly button at the end to gain super powers or something and then still gettign whooped on then let me know. But, this is a Godfrey Ho movie so if you have come up with a conclusion for the belly button thing, you may have some serious problems.

Picture quality is watchable on the Video Asia version and it is probably in it's original format since I don't even know if Godfrey Ho knows what widecreen is. There is also a short and sweet kung fu demonstration from Hsiao Ho(Mad Monkey Kung Fu) and also a good interview with him.

1) Shoalin Drunken Monk: This film contains a very good audio commentary by Ric Meyers, which i found informative and entertaining... i wish more of these kung fu movies had commertary by film makers and experts. Sadly this DVD was not in widescreen so you dont really get the whole movie
2) He Has Nothing But Kung Fu: I felt that this was the better of the two...........So much Kung Fu..........Fighting for no absolute reason. but again not in widescreen. However bye its cheap. good to have for your collection

Which Master Killer movies are included in this 2 disc set?
It's like selling a 2 disc Star Trek set and not listing which movies are being sold.
I know their are at LEAST two Master Killer collection packages.
The classic responce is:
"You can return it, if it is not what you want."
I shouldn't have to do that.
