Things started going downhill for Eddie Murphy around the time of this 1986 clunker, in which the comic actor plays a social worker predicted to be the savior of a kidnapped child, who has special powers to heal the Earth. Dennis Feldman's script and director Michael Ritchie (The Candidate), a once-thoughtful satirist, stumble over every link in a chain of fantasy-fueled sequences. Murphy phones it in, and Charles Dance (Pascali's Island) looks foolish in retrospect. --Tom Keogh

What a terrible, low budget, movie. We could not finish it.
Another classic Eddie Murphy title, just not my bag.......2007-05-09
The movie was entertaining, but not worth watching more than once, Its one of the few Eddie Murphy titles I wouldnt try to force on my friends to watch.
The golden child.......2007-04-11
This is one of my husband's favorite movies so i picked this up for him.I don't care for this movie and thought it was boring but the kids loved it so four out of five people in my family loved it thats why i gave it five stars.
Golden no, decent yes.......2007-03-29
This is certainly not one of Eddie Murphy's hits, but I think it deserves a look. This has enough of an interesting story, comedy, and decent acting to make it at least a decent rental. Fans of movies like "Big Trouble in Little China" and "The Phantom" are most likely to enjoy it the most. It is a bit of an oddball cross between an oriental story of mysticism and a US big city detective story with a little Murphy goofyness thrown in to boot. I will say the music sucks. That is one thing that probably hurt this movie the most. It is sounds like they tried to match rock music, poorly, to a mysticism movie. To bad John Carpenter didn't direct this and do the music, it would have been much better.
The Golden Child.......2007-03-03
The Golden Child~ J.L. Reate is a pretty good movie but it is nowhere close to his best movies of the early 80's like Coming to America, Trading Places and Beverly Hills Cop. Eddie Murphy is doing a great job in the role but his jokes are a bit lame since one has heard them in other movies before. The music is what makes this movie less then stellar. The music is terrible to say the least. It seems to me like they went way cheap on selecting the person to write the soundtrack and many other tracks sounds like cheap 80's music produced in someone's basement. The script is alright but it just that extra fun and excitement that other Eddie Murphy movies. Still and all this is not a bad movie and I give it the 3 stars that it deserves.

Description
Yasujiro Ozu's Tokyo Story (Tokyo Monogatari) follows an aging couple, Tomi and Sukichi, on their journey from their rural village to visit their two married children in bustling, post-war Tokyo. Their reception, however, is disappointing: too busy to entertain them, their children send them off to a health spa. After Tomi falls ill, she and Sukichi return home, while the children, grief-stricken, hasten to be with her. From a simple tale unfolds one of the greatest of all Japanese films. Starring Ozu regulars Chishu Ryu and Setsuko Hara, the film reprises one of the director's favorite themesthat of generational conflictin a way that is quintessentially Japanese and yet so universal in its appeal that it continues to resonate as one of cinema's greatest masterpieces.
Customer Reviews:
Tokyo Story.......2007-06-27
One of the enduring classics by celebrated master Ozu, this melancholic dissection of family dynamics in postwar Japan may sound simplistic, but "Story" packs an emotional punch as it observes the erosion of traditional values in modern lifeways. Among a uniformly strong cast, Higashiyama and Ryu give low-key, heartbreaking performances as the jilted parents--who seem bewildered as much by the clamor of the city as by their children's inhospitable behavior. "Story" may be understated, but Ozu's quiet, immobile visual style and deft direction reflect the nuances of everyday existence like no one else.
Universal appeal of Tokyo Story.......2007-04-10
As with every great work, the film has its own unique perfection in style, rhythm, details, and artist's vision - but "Tokyo Story" is very universal in its appeal - it is for every parent, every son or daughter - for everyone. It was made 50 years ago in Japan, about people who lived far away, but it is also about all of us, our families, our problems, our guilt and our search for love and meaning.
Ozu's film does not require one to be a movie buff or to try to solve complex symbolism to appreciate and love it. It brings smiles because it is a comedy (for at least the first 2/3) and sadness with a high drama of the last 1/3 of the film.
Yasujiro Ozu's quiet and deceptively simple film tells a story of an elderly couple who travel to Tokyo to see their grown up children and their families - son, daughter and daughter-in-law who is a widow of their middle son that was killed during the World War II. Their children love them, of course but they are too busy with their own lives and jobs to spend much time with them. Their young grandchildren don't know them and not too eager to try to know their grandparents better. Only the widowed daughter-in-law is the one who is really happy with their arrival and tries to make their visit pleasurable. After parents return home, children receive a telegram with the sad news that the mother became critically ill. Now it is their turn to make a journey.
Ozu does not judge anybody, but beneath the quiet politeness, smiles, and soft voices there is a sad, inevitable, and powerful alienation of generations in the modern world of big cities. The simple family melodrama has been told with intensity, humanity, and honesty of character.
P.S. The first thing I wanted to do after I finished watching this film was to pick up the phone and call my mom. Just to hear her voice.
You shall love your parents.......2007-03-20
2 hours and 15 minutes long. Another Ozu masterpiece. Of the 3 films I've seen so far this is the saddest one; and it feels like we've reached the end of a saga. Death closes this sequence of films: 'Late Spring', 'Early Summer' and this one; and writes a sad epitaph to life: life is sad and there's nothing we can do about it.
I didn't like it as much as the other two Ozu films mentioned, not because it's worse, but because it's pessimistic and leaves no room for hope (which could be very accurate, however). The best advice we are left is resignation. Children will become parents, and then grandparents; and probably they will be treated the same way they treated their own parents and grandparents before.
But do children really have to grow cold to their parents as they become older, or is there something we can do about it? The youngest daughter asks this to Setsuko Hara (daughter-in-law). She is pessimistic, times change everybody, and they will change too. But she herself is the living example that this is not so. She is not even a blood relative, however, she did more for the old couple than any relative. Setsuko Hara is the most positive and conservative character in Ozu's films. Times may change people's values and weaken human institutions, like the most basic one, families, but she will remain steadfast to those values inherited by generations down to the present. I would have preferred to see Setsuko in a happier mood, like in the other two films mentioned. I couldn't handle so much sadness.
Substantial film but substantially overrated........2007-02-24
Several years ago "Tokyo Story" topped the list of 1000 Greatest Films as ranked by Halliwell's. It certainly belongs on the list, but #1? Apparently, the stationary floor-level camera, doorway and hallway framings, underplayed acting of the old couple, snail's-pace plot movement, violation of the 180 degree sightline have all contributed to the cult-like following the film has attracted.
It's enjoyable, moving, and cinematically satisfying: compared to the constant stream of action, shock editing, and shrill noise of most present-day American movies, "Tokyo Story" is like a necklace composed of visual haikus, each shot worthy of being savored by the discerning reviewer. But the stillness, however poignant, doesn't hold enough "music" for me--that lyrical and rhapsodic dimension of film that plays not only in the soundtrack but is made visible by the lyrical movement of the camera as well. The most memorable films are also the most "melodramatic"--a balance of sight and sound, the visual and the aural, the spatial and the temporal. The greatest films not only expose loss but restore it through the fullness of music.
Among Japanese films, the one that comes closest to the melodramatic, or drama+music, standard is Kinoshita's "24-Eyes," a 1954 film that's as "operatic" as it is cinematic, permitting a richness of expression in time that compensates for the elegiac sadness that accumulates with the passage of the years from pre-war to post WWII Japan. But there's also a 1930s American film which, since first seeing it 1979, I've been unable to locate. Entitled "Make Way for Tomorrow," it's a movie with a storyline identical to that of "Tokyo Story." In fact, it's the film that inspired Ozu to make his Japanese version, not the first time the Japanese have demonstrated their good taste and undeniable invention in borrowing from another culture.
Beautiful, Profound And Moving Work Of Cinema: The Cycle Of Life.......2006-07-31
Yasujiro Ozu, known for his earlier works of cinema, "Late Spring" and "Early Summer" gave us a film which I consider his greatest masterpiece, "Tokyo Story." Aside from the notable cinematic expression of the camera work that Ozu was known for in his films; such as the low camera angles, what makes this masterpiece so profound to me is the simplicity of the film itself. And although his earlier aforementioned works also deal with simple themes, this film for me captures and encapsulates where the two previous films leave off: The impermanence of life. Many people I know have stated that this film is sterile and cold, and that it has no soul.
I tend to disagree. Yes, the film gives the viewer the simple life of a family. [A common theme in Ozu's films] However, unlike his earlier films, the impermance of life is given full force in this film. Here we see a family that must come to turns with what we must all inevitably face in our own lives: The death of a loved one. And Ozu does not do this in the typical American fashion, but instead focuses on the long drawn out lives of this family in a soap opera like narrative, just as he did in "Late Spring" and "Early Summer."
The film itself takes place in post-war Japan. And as with most of the films of Yasujiro Ozu, there are the usual Ozu cast of actors. We have the mother Tomi (Chieko Higashiyama) and father Shukishi (Chishu Ryu). Living in the rural countryside, they decide to visit their children who reside in Tokyo. However, the children are indifferent to their parents visiting them and decide to send them away to a spa. Another Ozu regular: the beautiful Noriko, (Setsuko Hara) portrays the widowed daughter-in-law of Tomi and Shukishi. And it is Noriko who treats the elder Hirayama's with more compassion and love than their own children. It is not that the children are intentionally spiteful to their parents, they just feel as if a great burden is being placed on them by their parents visit.
This film is a simple, yet great masterpiece, weaving a story of the usual day to day activities of life, which will eventually create a tapestry of the cycle of life itself, when one of the parents becomes ill and dies. This imperanence of life that Ozu shows us is done by letting us glimpse the normal day to day life of both the children [now adults] and the parents who are now in old age. And this is what makes this film so great. We are given a snapshot of life, and yet the way Ozu is able to present the film makes the film much more profound and poignant than any American film-maker has ever done: For Ozu does not cop-out with a happy ending.
I first saw this film with my father in the early 1970's at the now defunct Fox Theatre in Venice, California. I was much younger then, and the film did not resonate with me at the time. Now that I am older, and wiser, I realized why my father loved this film so much. [He died in 1978]. And whenever I view this film, it reminds me of him. When I watched the film again last night, I realized why my father loved this film as much as he did---it is a film that will move you deeply and emotionally. The film is both profound and sad. The children who feel inconvenienced by their parents later feel remorse when their mother Tomi is gravely ill.
It is only then that the children pay heed to her and rush back to their parents village to grieve for their mother Tomi. The children now truly realize how indifferent and non-emotional they were to their parents needs. This movie is often referred to as a film about generational conflicts which in itself are universal and timeless. More importantly however, is that "Tokyo Story" allows us look at our own lives, and see our we relate to our loved ones here and now. I highly recommend this great film to everyone. [Stars: 5+]

John Phillip Law stars as the legendary sailor this time around as he finds a talisman and sets sail with his crew for an uncharted island. With a beautiful slave girl (Caroline Munro) in tow, Sinbad takes on the evil sorcerer Koura (Tom Baker), who wants Sinbad's golden talisman to complete a spell. En route to the island, Koura brings the ship's figurehead to life to wreak havoc on the ship and crew. Once there, Sinbad and crew must do battle with a six-armed figure of Kali brandishing a sword in each hand, as well as an enraged Cyclops centaur and a winged griffin, and also deal with the treacherous Koura.
This 1974 entry in the Sinbad franchise is a bit of a mixed bag. On the one hand, the film's production values are quite good, and of course the Ray Harryhausen effects are as beautiful as ever. The set design (especially for the scenes inside the cavern) is striking and inventive, and there's Miklós Rózsa's score gracing the soundtrack. On the other hand, the story definitely tends to drag a bit, and Law's indeterminate accent often wavers toward a weird Slavic inflection. Pointing to the film's age, Law and company often tend to look like poncey rock stars with their long hair, beards, and harem pants. That's all nitpicking, though; the action segments, though they're fewer and farther between than in other Sinbad films, redeem the movie with Harryhausen's incredible artistry. It's worth owning just to see the fluid, complex movements of the animated Kali flailing away at six men with her swords. And of course, scream queen Caroline Munro never looked better as the slave girl Margiana. This is rich, well-crafted fantasy fare that the entire family can enjoy. --Jerry Renshaw

Great adventure...cool movie.........2007-04-30
Parents,if you can't find anything for you and the kids to watch because of either being too violent or bad language, then why not this movie and the others that Ray Harryhausen did?? It has cool looking creatures and lots of action. It doesn't always have to be the newest releases, does it?? Show them movies you grew up on or your parents grew up on,so what are you waiting for??
GREAT HARRYHAUSEN MASTERPIECE!.......2007-03-25
This was the first Harryhausen movie that I saw first run at the movies! I was very familiar with RH's older film work shown on TV in the early 60's and was lucky enough to see the 7th Voyage of Sinbad at the movies in a re-release in the late 60's. When the Golden Voyage theatrical trailer played on TV I knew I would be there! This is one of his best films with some awesome creatures! Kali and the Centaur's fight with the Griffin are stand outs, but they are all super cool! A classic fantasy adventure that should be introduced to younger kids who missed out when Ray was King.
A great movie for the entire family!.......2007-01-05
I was pleasantly surprised that this is a great family movie! The acting is above average, especially John Phillip Law's performance. He is outstanding as the humble hero. Just remember the special effects are not George Lucas quality, but for the era in which this film was made, they are very good. Don't miss this charming movie!!
My Favorite of The SInbad films.......2006-12-02
This film was perhaps my favorite Sinbad film and favorite stop animation film. Its fun, I liked JOhn Phillip Law as SInbad. ANd the creatures where my favorite. A great film, with great adventure and impressive effects.
The Golden Voyage of Sinbad.......2006-11-10
The Golden Voyage of Sinbad is a great adventure movie for the whole family. The special effects by Ray Harrhousen are terrffic! Tom Baker (Doctor Who) is great as the evil magician.

Description
Adapted from the brilliant novel by James Joyce, "Ulysses" portrays a stream-of-consciousness day in the life of Leopold Bloom, Molly Bloom, and Stephen Dedalus (the hero of Joyce's earlier autobiographical novel, "A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man"). Bloom is an ordinary man, a Jew whose odyssey through the streets of turn-of-the-century Dublin leads him through trials that parallel his classic prototype, Ulysses, on his epic journey home. Molly is his voluptuous, delightfully earthy wife whose infidelity is a major burden Bloom must bear. The intimacy of Joyce's language was without precedent in literature, and its flashbacks, dream episodes, sounds and visual montages translate freely into the language of cinema.

Not a substitute for the book but a great aid.......2007-06-10
I owned this film on video and then purchased the DVD when it became available. The DVD has not been enhanced and the picture quality is not great. However, I think it is still worth buying for the quality of the acting performances - Milo O'Shea IS Bloom - and the fact that it is filmed on location in Dublin - although some of the scenes are not placed in the original Joyce locations. It is of course a seriously curtailed version of the novel - it would have to be to fit into two hours - and does not in any way substitute for a reading of the original. Much of the symbolism and historical references of the inner dialogue cannot be transferred onto the screen but I think the film can be a great aid to anyone reading the novel for the first time.
The best scene in my opinion is the Cyclopes episode where Bloom confronts the citizen - it is an excellent representation of Joyce's narrative and a valid interpretation of his elaborate imagery.
True to the book.......2007-05-08
This old movie is a classic. True to the book. This is a great companion to the book. I recommend it to anyone that cares to see some of the book come to life.
Ulysses.......2007-03-20
This movie is based on James Joyce's book 'Ulysses. Originally I saw this movie when it first came out -- all those many years ago. Fell in love with it at the time, and one day while doing a web search for movies I discovered that it was available on dvd, so naturally I had to have a copy!!!
A VALIANT ATTEMPT AT THE IMPOSSIBLE.......2006-08-15
yes, ok, so it becomes Milo O'Shea's show and no other fine actors were available in the budget and steals the show through overacting which fails to communicate Bloom's humility (especially at the end of the Circe episode) and humanity.
Yes, so steven is nothing but a pretty boy of the beatle's early era with no more acting ability than looking constipated, unable to carry the load.
Okay, so they cut out all the best parts and all of the best lines, including of Buck Mulligan, who conducts himself as well as can be, but loses good lines. ANd okay so the BRitish production cut out all the stabs at the SASSENACH oppressive race essential to Ulysses and any Irish literature.
Still
It is the best that can be expected, a quick overview of an infinitely complex novel, and the best that will ever be achieved.
Modernist Masterpiece made (somewhat) accesibility........2006-07-15
I was really surprised how much I enjoyed this movie. I saw it when it first came out and it was over my head. Generally the book is considered the most challenging English languague novels, but the movie was fun.
It did have that strange Modernist lack of linearity that is not
always easy to grasp. And in some ways it reminded me of the visual presentaion of "The Trial" by Orson Welles, although much more upbeat.
The Anti Semitism was so thick that you could cut it with a knife, but Bloom was an excellent character as was his wife Molly. And you could feel some people really loved the irascible character. Deadulus (the Joyce double) wasn't as fully developed, but was still effective.
The ability to visualize stream of cosciousness writing is
nearly impossible for an extended length of time, but it was a nice try. And the various omniscent narrions, while being a little too film noirish, were still effective; particularly
Leoplod's and Molly's which took up nearly half the film.
This is definitely not for everyone, but if you want to know the general points of this monumental work- and laugh a little-
Ulysses is definitely worth your time. Maybe next I'll try the book.
(ps some of the automobiles were much too modern for the time the film took place- nobody's perfect).

The award-winning HBO series Happily Ever After: Fairy Tales for Every Child provides updated cartoon versions of the classics that will hold your kids' attention without banging them on the head with themes. Four half-hour tales are included, each with a bevy of well-known vocal talent. A very sweet version of Pinocchio features a star-studded voice cast, including Will Smith, Chris Rock, Charles S. Dutton, and Della Reese. Although this may make the take sound strictly African American, the spin is decidedly multicultural. Geppetto becomes "George" and Pinocchio, being "chips of pine and oak off the old block" is called "Pinoak." The big spin is on Pinocchio's insect friend, who in this version is a termite named "Woody," played with a rascally style well suited to Chris Rock. For Mother Goose Whoopi Goldberg, Jimmy Smits, and Denzel Washington lend voice as the merriment takes place in Mother Gooseberg Land, where Old King Cole reigns over the likes of Little Miss Muffet, Georgie Porgie, and the rest of the gang who take their poetic direction from the grand dame of rhyme herself, Mother Gooseberg. Creativity oozes from this rollicking rhyme fest, an animated retelling of some well-loved classic nursery rhymes. A simple chore of chopping trees turns into a life lesson for a trio of peasant brothers in this fresh take on The Golden Goose. Drexel, Axel, and Simpleton are three strapping boys who live with their father and mother in a small kingdom. When father sends the older sons to clear the forest, they encounter a wizard--dressed as a beggar--who asks them for some food. Woven throughout this simple tale are subtle messages of the benefits of faith and kindness in everyday living, best understood by children ages 4 and older. The seductive music that the Pied Piper played to woo the children of Hamelin was jazz. At least, that's the take in retelling as old tales mix with new world vision. Here, the selfish King of Hamelin (Samuel L. Jackson) loves to dismiss all politics so he can count his money. Unfortunately, the rat problem becomes so severe that plans must be put into action. When a smooth, jazz-playing stranger (Wesley Snipes) wanders into town proclaiming that he can address the problem, the city council is ready to give him riches.

A Tad Cynical - Maybe / Maybe NOT.......2005-08-31
This CD was bought for my two year old grandson - I reviewed it to make sure it would be acceptable to his parents. . . it may not be . . . for although the look of the characters and the delivery of the tales have changed a great deal, the greed, corruption, cheating and misrepresentation are still within!
It's worth a look see though. But tell me . . . do you think the Pied Piper could be an MJ? After all, he did reap his payment by whisking the children off to a neverland of sweets and play for all their days . . . .

Description
In this delightful romantic comedy, four-time Oscar Award winner Katherine Hepburn stars as a wealthy, WASP-ish widow who falls in love with her divorced, Jewish physician (Harold Gould).
After he brings her back to life from a critical illness, a charming relationship evolves between them. Their love is complicated, however, by the prejudices and greediness of their respective families and intrusive neighbors. Also starring Denholm Elliott, Bibi Besch and Charles Frank.
Customer Reviews:
A must see for fans of Miss Kate!.......2007-02-26
A sweet, sweet movie made originally for TV. Tells the story of a wealthy Protestant widow from the Connecticut upper class who falls in love with her Jewish doctor. Families on both sides create multitudinous problems for them, between the perceived religious and class differences. Will love win out in the end? You probably know the answer already, but the journey is worth watching in every way. Buy it. You'll love it!
Good for a rainy day.......2006-11-10
I love all things Katherine. I saw this movie on television when it first came out and loved it. Since then I have periodically looked for it on tape or dvd. To my delight this year I found it. This movie will not disappoint fans. Yes it is predictable (it was a made for TV movie)but the (fairy) story line is delightful. Ms. Hepburn is believable as a wealthy blue blood and Harold Gould is great as the Jewish doctor. The rest of the cast is perfect. Buy it! You'll like it.
Guess Who Mrs. Delafield Brought Home to Dinner and Wants to Marry.......2005-08-17
"Mrs. Delafield Wants to Marry" was the first of a series of made for television movies that Katharine Hepburn made at the end of her acting career when she was in her 80s. Hepburn had won her fourth Oscar for "On Golden Pond" in 1981 and then did nothing for three years until she made "The Ultimate Solution of Grace Quigley" in 1984. Then in 1986 she made this particular movie for the small screen in which Hepburn plays Margaret Delafield, a wealthy widow from Ashmore who is brought back from death's door by Dr. Marvin Elias (Harold Gould). Her gratitude turns into love and the good doctor responds in kind. The problem is that her children absolutely put their collective feet down to their mother marrying Elias, and they object as much to him being an outsider as they do to him being Jewish. His children are equally outraged, not just because Margaret is a Christian but also because she is from a different clash. Basically, you have the two sets of children trying to out do the others in terms of which is being more prejudiced (I vote for his children, since they want to blame Margaret for the Holocaust and since WASP protecting their family money is so stereotypical with regards to anybody marrying into their money that it is old hat).
It is hard for a fan of Hepburn's to watch this movie and not think of "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?", since both have to do with a marriage and the question of prejudice. I assume that topic is one of the reasons that Hepburn was persuaded to do this script. The supporting cast consists of Bibi Besch, Denholm Elliot, Brenda Forbes, Charles Frank, Suzanne Lederer and John Pleshette, but they all have the thankless task of being bigots pretty much from start to finish. However, they do their jobs so well, especially Besch, that you would not be surprised if they succeeded in keeping Margaret and Marvin apart. There is a noticeable age difference between Hepburn and Gould that is slightly problematic; the film suggests it is on the order of five years but you can tack on another decade in the real world. But when Hepburn talks about how Gould's character has reawakened the 14-year-old girl buried deep inside her, you buy her feelings for him. When he take a photograph of her saying he takes shots of all of his patients that he saves, she asks, "Don't you save all of your patients?" "No," he assures her with a gleam in his eye, "I'm very selective." So you have to root for him. Besides, Harold Gould is one of the most beloved character actors of our time, from playing Rhoda's father to the grandpa in the "Freaky Friday" remake, so seeing him doing kissing scenes with Katharine Hepburn is a treat.
But questions of age are not even secondary given the religious and class distinctions that threaten the happiness of Mrs. Delafield and Dr. Elias. There is something to be said for Margaret's rejoinder to the question of "religious differences," even though the simplicity of that position will probably be considered offensive by some. For that matter, her solution to the concern of her children for the family money is eminently practical and rather obvious as well. Then again, it is not like bigots are the most rational people on the face of the earth. If there is a fault with this television movie it is that the come back to the onslaught of prejudice seems less in comparison, but that is because it is. The bigotry here is laid on so thick that you feel sorry for these characters that they do not hear the filth that comes spewing out of their mouths. The happy note on which it ends does try to make the best of the situation, and while it might not work in the real world, the sentiments it represents are certainly to be appreciated.
All things considered I think "Mrs. Delafield Wants to Marry" is the best of these latter television movies by Hepburn. She followed this effort with "Laura Lansing Slept Here" in 1988, which was also written by James Prideaux, who would do "The Man Upstairs" for Hepburn as well in 1992. All three of these movies were directed by George Schaefer, so Hepburn must have had a high degree of comfort with the pair to keep working with them at this point in her life. In 1994 Hepburn ended her distinguished acting career by doing "This Can't Be Love" with Anthony Quinn and "One Christmas" with Henry Winkler, which her last theatrical film, "Love Affair," done in between. That is the one I remember best because of the way she upstaged not only Warren Beatty but a luminous Annette Benning. Besides, with the release of "Mrs. Delafield" and "Laura Lansing" on DVD this month, I now have everything Katharine Hepburn did on either video or DVD.
Delightful and Charming.......2005-08-04
I saw this movie when it first aired and fell in love! If you are looking for a hard hitting movie, this is not it! If you are looking for entertainment with a some light hearted comedy and romance, then I definitely recommend this! Ms. Hepburn is still in top form and beautiful as ever!
Katherine Hepburn Rules!!!!!!!!!!.......2005-06-15

Three generations of the Douglas clan--old-time star Kirk, Michael of Fatal Attraction and Wonder Boys, and movie newcomer Cameron--star in It Runs in the Family. Alex Gromberg (Michael) is a high-powered lawyer who works for a firm co-founded by his father Mitchell (Kirk), who's recovering from a stroke, while Alex's son Asher (Cameron) is dealing pot and flunking out of his senior year in college. The movie moves between the three men's relationships with women and each other. Surprisingly, It Runs in the Family isn't as much of a vanity project as it seems; though some implausible elements serve only to flatter the stars (wealthy lawyer Alex volunteers at a soup kitchen for the homeless, where a babelicious co-worker throws herself at him), most of the script is solidly written and the parent-child conflicts ring true. Also featuring Bernadette Peters and Rory Culkin. --Bret Fetzer

Very impressed.......2007-03-16
I was very impressed with how quickly my purchase was delivered to me as well as the perfect condition it arrived in. I live in Hawaii and many times we don't receive items in the usual alloted times when we order anything online, but this item arrived very quickly.
More than just a film about I.B.S........2006-11-12
I watched "Spartacus," and I thought, if Spartacus were transported to 1960s America, what kind of kid would he have. I figured he'd be like Michael Douglas' Gordon Gekko in "Wall Street." So, I watched that film. Then I noticed Martin Sheen's Union rep is a lot like Spartacus -- he even says the only difference between slaves who built the pyramids and the guys who build skyscrapers is the skyscraper builders had unions. Both films end on a sour note. Afterwards, I thought, Michael D. and his father need to make up or something bad is going to happen. So I checked out "It Runs in the Family" to see if there was anything I could do. In this context -- watching two generations of Douglases work out their differences so the third generation of Douglases wouldn't be as screwed up -- my interest was held. The film runs a little long, and I wouldn't recommend it to people not actively trying to deal with their own family issues -- they'll probably get bored.
Not worth seeing.......2005-11-18
This is the worst Micheal Douglas Movie I saw so far. It is about a dysfunctional Famliy. it has little comedy in it un like others that have dysfunctional families. it is downright boring.
Boring and shallow.......2005-05-06
There is nothing funny and entertaining about this movie. It is about three generations of a dysfunctional family. Kirk Douglas is extremely unlikable and Michael Douglas is no more appealing. The movie drags on and on about family problems that are purely depressing.
Drivel.......2005-03-07
Have you ever wondered why high-priced, high roller and powerful actors take on roles in bad movies? That's the question you'll ask yourself if you watch this drivel.
Perhaps the answer is three generations of Douglases -- Kirk, Michael and Cameron -- appear in "It Runs in the Family". The two older Douglases play Jewish (Gromberg) lawyers (Kirk a retired former partner now overcoming a stroke) while son Asher (Cameron) is a slacker attending college. The cast includes Bernadette Peters as Michael's wife and Rory Culkin and their younger son.
My onscreen guide said the movie was taken from a short story by the guy that wrote "Christmas Story" and was supposed to be a followup on that success based on memories of the pre-teen son, which would be Culkin. Whomever wrote that never saw this movie!
This script was apparently about family dysfunction, since the dad wants to do the nasty with a woman he knows from a soup kitchen, the college boy can't keep his pants on and ends up in trouble with the cops over drugs, and the younger son also has a romantic entanglement with a skag he knows from school. The old man's wife dies, too, pushing him into Michael's disheveled household.
This sounds formulaic except the formula doesn't work. Instead of being drawn into the lives of these losers, you laugh at the silly predicaments created for them by the awkward script. There is hardly a moment in the entire film that represents anything remotely close to real family life. Every moment seems to be taken over by one calamity or another, usually of the male Douglases creation.
For me, this was a memorable film in a negative way. If Michael Douglas made $20 million for this movie, the people that bankrolled this turkey should ask for a 95 percent refund. For, in addition to the movie being a loser, Michael Douglas is badly out of shape in it with a big gut that sticks out. So much for the beautiful people, eh?
Unless you are a Douglas film completist or totally dedicated to seeing something starring a bunch of family members, steer clear of this bomb. It is funny, agreed, but not in positive ways.

This tale of a boy, a legendary seal, and the hunters after her valuable pelt has enough animal footage and young-boy heroics to keep the kids fascinated, and it has sufficient suspense and plot twists to keep parents' attention. Set in the Aleutian Islands, the story begins with a lonely 10-year-old (Torquil Campball) in search of a pet. Instead he finds the real-life embodiment of a mythical golden seal purported to have deserted the human race because of its greed. With a huge bounty on her head, this seal of native lore returns to be hunted down again, this time with only the boy to protect her and her newborn cub. Despite some awkward lines and performances (with the notable exception of Michael Beck as the snaky charmer of a villain), the story works and the action will keep family members of all ages riveted. The PG rating is for brief swearing as well as some gunplay at the end. With that in mind, this 92-minute movie could be considered suitable for children 4 and older. --Kimberly Heinrichs

Description
One family's story of courage, survival and love. After the tragic death of their mother and their father's disappearance, the Morrison children have no alternative but to live with their Uncle Zep. They dread leaving civilization to live in his secluded cabin in the wilderness, but when Zep shares his knowledge and love, the children come to care deeply for both the kindhearted old man and their new life in nature's majestic splendor. The county welfare department fiercely opposes this living arrangement and rules that the children must be placed in foster homes, and the family's only chance to stay together is to hide out in Zep's fishing shack on the other side of the mountains. Their treacherous journey confronts them with the perilous side of nature, but this true family story, filled with spectacular shots of nature's breathtaking beauty, proves that the "golden sky" is out there for those with the courage to make their dreams come true.

Description
A goose with feathers made of pure gold! Claus, a good-hearted shoemaker, receives it as a gift for his kindness. Not only does the goose look unusual, but it also possesses most unusual qualities... This is the original, uncut version of The Golden Goose, digitally remastered and presented in the U.S. American version.
Customer Reviews:
This is not the K. Gordon Murray soundtrack.......2004-01-22
I purchased this DVD assuming it was the K. Gordon Murray version
that he released to Kiddie Matiness in 1965. I was surprised to
discover that it was and it wasn't...
One cannot fault the visual quality of the transfer which appears to be from original negative elements. It's clearly
a superior picture to the grainy prints made by Murray from
a duplicate negative in the sixties. The Eastmancolor internegatives at the time had poor resolution and grain which
is why most American pictures were derived directly from the
camera negative in Technicolor, Eastmancolor and Black and White.
While the visuals are the same, this DVD has a newly dubbed
soundtrack. It's not the soundtrack that Murray created for
his release. There is no female narrator and the voice of
the hero is not as deep. While the translation is similar,
the hero's brothers call him 'dimwit' instead of 'dumbell'.
The title sequence is animated rather than the 1965 title card which contained the "K. Gordan Murray Presents" logo.
I prefer the Murray soundtrack which is more entertaining in
that uniquely awful way that made his fairy tale imports
so memorable. The movie itself is played for laughs and less surreal than his Mexican imports. It's still entertaining in
this version and I though the German track a curio. It would appear that the voices were dubbed in there
too which makes sense since many foreign producers did not shoot
live sound during principal photography. Italy and Russia were
among the countries that post-dubbed all versions of their movies, often with other actor's voices. I don't know if the voices in the German track are those of the actors on screen.
I didn't know that movie originated from East Germany. Fortunately, there was no propoganda in the film.
I had a little trouble accessing the American track
while playing the disc. I would reccomend purchasing
the VHS version of the movie too which contains the K. Gordon Murray soundtrack.
