Get ready for some seriously big hair. The Last Dragon--or, to call it by its full title, Berry Gordy's the Last Dragon--is a stunning example of 1980s camp cinema. One-name kung fu wonder Taimak plays Leroy Green, a.k.a. Bruce Leroy, a humble student of kung fu who has achieved the highest level of skill, but hasn't yet found his inner master. Wandering through the streets of New York in a Chinese peasant outfit, he accidentally becomes the protector of nightclub hostess/video jockey Laura Charles (played by former Prince protégé Vanity, who also costarred in the trash classic Action Jackson). She's being threatened by a height-challenged mobster who wants her to play his girlfriend's video (the girlfriend is something of a Cyndi Lauper look-alike, played by Broadway star Faith Prince). Meanwhile, a man who calls himself Sho'Nuff, the Shogun of Harlem, wants to kick Leroy's ass and prove himself the baddest kung fu master in town. Add to this Leroy's smart-mouthed brother Richie (who calls Leroy "the chocolate-covered yellow peril"), a dregs-of-Motown soundtrack (DeBarge is a high point), ninja battles, pseudo-Eastern philosophical babble, and a jaw-dropping club performance by Vanity, and you have a hilarious example of why we're all so very glad the '80s are over. Featuring a bit role by William H. Macy (Fargo, Magnolia). --Bret Fetzer

the last dragon.......2007-07-01
set in the 80s disco night club scene the last dragon is a toungue incheek look at the 80s and martial art movies eg the scence in the cookie factory for example when the guys in the factory are rapping and the student is speaking your typical hollywood 60s chop chop chinese (im glad bruce lee came along and changed racial stero typing ) the little brother as real laugh so are some of the students (the art of fighting without fighting ) over all a good movie
Politically incorrect cult classic.......2007-06-11
I hadn't seen this moving in probably 25 years. While it would be considered politically incorrect in today's society, it is a humerus spoof of the martial arts genre. The good guy wins!
This movie is the bomb.......2007-05-24
I loved this movie, its funny and exciting, and the fighting is good. Taimak is just so fine and he is till this day. I really enjoy watching these movies with my children. They learn alot about when I was younger!
Good and Bad.......2007-05-16
The quality of the video was great, however I was disappointed that it did not come as a retail version would have with the booklet inside of the DVD case. This was one of three movies I purchased on this order and none of them had the booklet. This is a small thing but when you are collecting memorabilia such as some of these older 80's movies from my childhood it is nice to be able to look back in the booklet and see some of the funny descriptions of the movies, actors notes, notes from the producer and so on. I will continue to purchase movies from Amazon because as I said the video quality is great but I would like to see a more complete product in the future.
THE best 80s spoof movie.......2007-03-20
I love this B movie because it is a spoof on the Bruce Lee movies. The soundtrack is original and the characters as well. It also has a young Ernie Reyes, Jr. in it.

BURNT OUT .......2007-01-14
This would be an exciting film for children. For adults: Cheesy script, poor acting and campy stuntwork/camerawork/special effects.
Cheesy yet enjoyable..........2006-11-03
I first saw this movie on the Sci-Fi Channel when they were showing 'marathon' of movies featuring dragons. The subject of review says it all 'Cheesy yet enjoyable'. There are parts that are unintentionally funny: Silas' groomed hair, Princess' attire (lingerie and black pants), Girl who yells "Fire!" when operating the catapult (even though she is the one pulling the device). The movie does has its own charm and it is enjoyable (if you can take it for what it's worth -- Sci-Fi Weekend Movie).
I liked the movie so much that I bought from Amazon. Recommended if you like these kind of movies. =)
Ever seen a made at home movie? Nows your chance! .......2006-03-30
... Now how do you start a review of this kind of movie. Was it a movie? When all of a DOZEN towns people at the gate are waving farewell and sending the would be heros into battle against the (wonderfully computer rendered)dragons doesn't that just somehow seem sad. We six Heros will die so that the dragons won't eat the rest of you! Thats right all 11 of...oh Im sorry didn't see you there, ALL TWELVE of you. I especially like how in this town of twelve+heros there happens to be a traveling deadly martial arts guy, a beautiful girl with a huge crossbow on wheels,(talk about envy) and the robin hood guy, except he's actually from outside the town. So I'm going to stop now before I cry... Yes it was that bad. But as always watch it for the Heck of it and try not to be upset about time lost in a vigilant attempt to make sense out of the dragon storm movie thing..experience thing.
Well-Done Fun!.......2006-01-17
This movie is just a bit of fun! The acting, directing and production values are very good. Maxwell Caulfield makes an excellent reluctant hero and John Rhys Davies injects humor into his villanous role. The medieval setting is more convincing and less glamorous than in many movies I've seen. The script is pretty good, as dragon eggs land like comets on the earth, but we aren't sure at first (and neither are the characters) what they are. Even though the movie is not a bloodfest, it is too scary for children. The dragons do kill people, there is a fair amount of suspense, and the dragons are frightening.
It just doesn't get any worse than this!.......2005-11-28
Oh my, this movie was God-awful. It has the feel throughout of a group of first time actors playing medieval dress-up and dragons for the camera. The special effects consist of computer-generated dragons and an extreme overuse of people's backs getting set on fire... that's pretty much it. The plot is also very weak and so typical. The fighting scenes are horribly choreographed and the acting is so bad that it looks like first time efforts for every actor except for the two kings and Theldag. Picture Ben Stiller with a slight beard, medieval clothes, and a wig. That's the hero in this calamity of a movie. There's also the typical trite and very poor attempt at humor spattered throughout also. This is definitely a low budget title. It's also in 4:3 full screen only. I consider this movie purchase one of the worst I have ever made, but it was cheap. You get what you pay for.

Great But Is It Worth It?.......2005-09-18
Dragon Ball Z is, quite frankly, one of the best, if not the best, anime ever made. It has everything any hardcore anime fan as well as anyone interested in getting started on would want. But quite frankly, it is a discrace that they would sell them at these prices for all the more you can get. Quite frankly, it would be cheaper to purchase a TIVO and record them for your own viewing pleasure off of the Cartoon Network.
Please note that for every DVD you purchase from FUNanimation, you recieve a grand total of 3 episodes. Well guess who just wasted twenty or so dollars on about 75 minutes worth of anime that could be watched on TV for free... Yes my friend, that would be you if you bought this item.
Sure, if you have the money and you are really, REALLY into the DBZ saga's, then go ahead and shell out your hard earned cash. For the rest of us, TIVO or TV will surfice.
Oh, and one last note: HD-DVD disks and Blu-ray (as well as the fabeled Holgraphic Disks) will be coming out shortly. And YES! FUNanimation will play on the consumer just like it did when it released it VHS styled recording of the SAME episodes only a few short years ago by releasing them in those aformentioned forms. Its just a money game that too many people fall for.
All in all:DBZ is a very good anime. This DVD is just a waste of time and money. (Note I am grading the value, NOT the anime itself)
Wow, That was fast!!.......2005-07-06
Highly Recommend using for future purchases! Quick delivery, great condition, as advertised!
A truly excellent DVD.......2004-09-19
This DVD (which is the 6th in the Cell Games saga) starts where the previous one left off. It features 3 episodes of pretty much non-stop action which also help to progress the story as it brings us closer to the climax of the plot.
Anyway, here's what you can expect. The last DVD left us off with Goku surrendering and then letting Gohan in. In this DVD, Gohan fights Cell as Cell tries to get him to release his hidden power. Also, the Japaneese version (with english subtitles) is full of funny jokes and excellent music. The DVD has no extra features.
Anyway, this is a must buy! You should pick up right away.
great dvd by the greatest anime creator ever!.......2004-08-24
this dvd is great, it contains three great episodes which are very serious. it contains the shocking moment when goku tells all about the new ssj. I would highly recommend this. Just because i am under 13 and live in england I still have an oppinion. In england they stoped showing dbz episodes and done it on a special channel called TOONAMI, what the hell, uhuuu! Then they relesed dragonball and gt, i know. But you've got to admit these are the best:). Anyway back to the cell games these are sreat eps they don't show SSJ2 gohan though i am getting it straight away shipped to england. thats how good it is! The emence fight scenes goodness wooh. But the others are better after this and pure justice. ^_^.

Vegito Time!.......2006-07-22
He's here! The most powerful fighter in DBZ has arrived! This is my favorite DBZ DVD! This DVD contains 4 action-packed episodes that'll render you breathless! Intense, heart-stopping scenes make this the most awsome DVD in DBZ History! Here are the episodes:
Meet Vegito: Episode 254: Vegeta and Goku, two Saiyan warriors, have fused to create the most powerful fighter the earth has ever known! The monster Majin Buu is impressed by the power of his new opponent but refuses to take him seriously. Will Majin Buu's arrogance be his undoing?
Rip in the Universe: Episode 255: The newly formed warrior Vegito makes a startiling transformation and matches Majin Buu punch for punch. But the monster's new opponent stirs up an anger in the heart of the beast that could rip a hole in space and time itself! Can Vegito stop him before earth and the universe are turned inside out?
Vegito... Downsized: Episode 256: The battle continues between Vegito and Majin Buu and Vegito has the upper hand while buu is left digging up dirt! The Super Saiyan combo pack seems to be more than a match for the pink menace than Majin Buu intended. But is Vegito tempting fate by teasing and toying with Majin Buu? What does the wily, pink monster have up his sleeve?
The Incredible Fighting Candy: Episode 257: Can this be? Majin Buu has won? Vegito has been reduced to nothing but a coffee flavored jawbreaker! But what's this? Vegito has kept his will! When the gumdrop fights back, Majin Buu realizes this battle is far from over!
THIS IS A GREAT DVD! BUY IT NOW!
Vegito! Vegito! Vegito! Ve.. okay, I'll review already!.......2003-11-05
HE'S HERE! One of the coolest Dragonball Z characters arrives, and is about to kick some major pink monster @$$!! Goku and Vegeta have fused, and now Vegito is born! I only have one thing to say, Buu's in deep saiyajin doo-doo! Of course, the battle hardly ends here, and the ending takes a shocking turn for the worse.... let's just say that the tide seems to turn in Buu's favor! Oh, and the last episode is hilarious! Vegito gets turned into a piece of candy! But he still keeps on fighting Majinn Buu! I have one thing to say, Mr. Toriyama has a weird sense of humor! Weird, but good! So, all DBZ fans really need to check this volume out, because Goku and Vegeta's other fusion, Gogeta, won't show up until about 2005(in DBZ that is, he'll show up in DBGT probably soon)!
Vegeto.......2002-12-19
everyone who have seen dragonball Z up to this point know that Goku and Vageta are one of the most powerful fighters in the known universe. or course this is besides Buu. now imagine the fused Goku and Vageta fighting BUU. Vegeto instantly proves that hes powerful before he even goes SSJ. anyone who has been following the eposodes needs this one. there is only a few left till the whole series is over. if you are a newbie...start from the begining because you will be confused.
The Buu saga..........2002-11-15
These Majin Buu episodes are the latest Funimation dubs being aired on Cartoon Network as of November 02. Anyway in these episodes Vegeto is born. He becomes Saiyajin and puts up a great fight. Then he gets turned to candy and gets absorbed.
I love DBZ. I can't wait to see the end of the Kid Buu saga! :)
vegitto vs super buu!.......2002-11-10
i really like this movie! so goku and vegeta are fused together and they start beating up super buu! then super buu launches a huge attack! it surprises hercule and bee but vegito catches it and kicks it right out of the planet! then vegitto goes super sayian. then the battle really heats up! they keep fighting. super buu tries a super ghost kamakaze attack, turing vegitto into candy and finally absorbing him!

Double the dragons, double the action!!!!!!!!.......2003-06-18
Aside from the horendus acting, inane filming, absurd plot, and a usless director, this movie is RAAAAAADDD!!!! At times the directer of this F-Movie must have been on drugs. This is evident due to the films overall lack of a little thing called a plot. In this movie the story follows wang, a complete master of fighting. He is hired to protect the governments money but is ambushed then saved by a mysterious man. The man is really an evil conspiratist, waiting for his chance to take the govenments property. He kills wang and steels his daugter but lets his son go. The son is raised in the wilderness and seeks training from an old geezer with a muschdash. After his training is complete the goes to face the evil kil( the man who murdured his father).
He goes about his buisness by sending kil threatening letters, as he makes his move he meets another man that shares his apperance and his mission. They kick, punch, and fly through hords of kils minnions. Finaly one dragon dies but the other lives on. He faces kil and his deadly hair, eventually killing him. Then kil meets his father who was suposed to be dead and kils daughter who was realy Dragons sister. They walk off into the forest a family once again.........genus.

The DVD transfer on this film is usually dark, or at times like a day in which heavy clouds move in front of the sun, casting shadows. During those fleeting moments when the shadows abate, you get a sense of how good the transfer might have been.
The classic kung-fu plot of revenge is played out rather unevenly--trying, I think, to accomplish too much with too little. None of the characters seem to develop, although the film attempts to over-develop them with insufficient scripting and feeble story lines.
The soundtrack, using exerpts from, among other things, the "Raiders of the Lost Ark" theme song (while the hero travels alone and misses his father) and 1960-ish ensemble jazz (during some of the fight scenes), intensifies the film's inability to suspend the viewer's disbelief (unless it is this viewer's incredulity at having purchased the film, then having watched it through to its conclusion).
The fight scenes were generally unrealistic, with blows and kicks from the given camera angle missing their targets by as much a foot or more (that's 12 inches, not to be confused with the five-toed appendage that the kicker wields). The fighting styles portrayed were rather stiff and "slow" looking, giving one renewed appreciation for the likes of really talented artists, like Bruce Lee, Jet Li, Gordon Liu, Jackie Chan, etc.
If for nothing else, this film is worth watching just to see the coloration of the villian's hair (I won't spoil the surprise for you), and the way he uses it in the final fight scene. In addition, the dubbing has a decidedly Old Western-sounding flair which actually makes the film strangely endearing.
Despite all these anomalies which, by the way, typify the movie in its entirety, I will no doubt watch the movie again, somewhere down the road, being an inveterate fan of this movie genre which, I believe, belies an underlying bent toward masochism.
I can think of a host of kung-fu movies I would rather have purchased than this one, knowing what I now know about it. And I would certainly not recommend that a kung-fu movie neophyte make it one of his/her first, critical purchases, either. Although I did not dislike this film enough, nor perhaps have sense enough, to discard it, I will consign it to the bottom shelf of my budding kung-fu library.
**POST SCRIPT**
I watched the movie again last weekend (blush). In terms of a "good" bad kung-fu movie, this is it. Those characteristics of poor filming, tired plot, poor acting, incongruent dubbing and less than thrilling fight scenes--those things that us die-hard addicts to this genre will routinely put up with in the quest for a moment of plausible kung-fu entertainment--all coexist, in excess, in this film; but I still could not bring myself to get rid of it. Who knows? It may become a "classic" in its own right, within the ranks of "Grade B" grade B martial arts films.
