Gary Zukav's American Book Award-winning The Dancing Wu Li Masters masterfully introduces the layman to quantum and particle physics, as well as Einstein's relativity theories. With a similar dose of amiable, easy-to-understand prose, Zukav guides readers into the spiritual realm in his bestselling The Seat of the Soul.
Zukav questions the Western model of the soul, alleging that the human species is in the midst of a great transformation, evolving from a species that pursues power based upon the perceptions of the five senses--"external power"--to one that pursues power based upon perceptions of the soul--"authentic power." He believes that humans are immortal souls first, physical beings second, and that once we become conscious of this transformation--once we align our personalities with our soul--we will stimulate our spiritual growth and become better people in the process. This insightful, lucid synthesis of modern psychology and new-age principles has been described as the "physics of the soul." Who better to explain such heady concepts than Gary Zukav?
Amazon.com Audiobook Review
Ready to attain a higher level of understanding? Author Gary Zukav can help you evolve into a multisensory being, one who "values love more than the physical world." As shown in The Dancing Wu Li Masters, his bestselling exploration of physics, Zukav has a gift for presenting complex, even mind-boggling concepts in clearly worded and reasoned logic. In Seat of the Soul, he leads you on an inspirational and potentially life-changing journey into the seemingly intangible realm of the spirit. Reading in a calm, soothing voice he explains why increased sensory perception will mark the next phase of human evolution, how the power of choice can change your existence, and what you can do to infuse your life with more compassion, trust, and understanding. (Running time: 3 hours, 2 cassettes) --George Laney
Book Description
With the same extraordinary skill that he used to demystify scientific abstraction and the new physics, Gary Zukay, the award-winning author of The Dancing Wu Li Masters, here takes us on a brilliant and penetrating exploration of the new phase of evolution we have now entered.
With lucidity and elegance, Zukav explains that we are evolving from a species that pursues power based upon the perceptions of the five senses -- external power -- into a species that pursues authentic power -- power that is based upon the perceptions and values of the spirit. He shows how the pursuit of external power has produced our survival-of-the-fittest understanding of evolution, generated conflict between lovers, communities, and superpowers, and brought us to the edge of destruction.
Using his scientist's eye and philosopher's heart, Zukav shows how infusing the activities of life with reverence, compassion, and trust makes them come alive with meaning and purpose. He illustrates how the emerging values of the spirit are changing marriages into spiritual partnerships, psychology into spiritual psychology, and transforming our everyday lives. The Seat of the Soul describes the remarkable journey to the spirit that each of us is on.

Mark D. Hyde, Author of "Coloring Outside the Lines: One Gay Man's Journey to Self-Acceptance & Spiritual Awakening.......2007-04-06
This book was given to me as a gift several years back. It sat on my shelf for quite sometime. Then in 2003 with the loss of my mother and some other life difficulties, I felt a tremedous need to look for more and find some sort of deeper meaning to this journey called life. Zukav's book provoked my thinking like nothing had done before. I am a former seminarian and this book challenged me to look at more than just the surface meaning of my existence. Seat of the Soul helped me to make a tremendous leap in my spritualiy and allowed me to find greater purpose in the face of much personal loss. This book is not an easy read, but it will truly inspire if you so allow.
Not an Easy Trip.......2007-04-05
I was not suprise when this book ventured into the spiritualism quite a bit. Although I don't choose to go there, there is nothing deceitful about the title. I appreciate that. Can't say that I would recomend it for spiritual growth.
A surprise.......2007-03-27
It's an interesting read BUT I didn't expect this book to be about reincarnation!
By the seat of your pants.......2007-03-22
Although Gary Zukav is making claims that he dosn't back up, I believe he is writing to those people who already kind of understand what he is talking about. There is only a need to clarify what is already felt.
We are on the verge of an evolutionary jump, explaining the jump to people who are not ready, or who have not had some of the experience he speaks about, would be almost impossible, they would have to suspend three dimensional thinking and time/space.
Its a wonderful book, and even those who can't follow it will be haunted by it. They will be angry with it. They will fight it with every breath they have, in some cases. But that is a wonderful thing, in my opinion.
A book to return to.......2007-03-20
I read most of the rreviews for The Seat of The Soul. My view differs from the negative reviews; I LOVE THIS BOOK. I first read this book soon after the death of my son. At the time, I was devouring any books I could find to educate myself, and to escape the pain. The SEat of the Soul is a book that is written in Zucov's smooth poetic style. But don't let that kid you; it is a powerful book, filled with abstracts to cause even the densest to ponder the possibilities. I am sorry for the folks that read, or at least profess to have read this book and not like it. To you I say, nothing. The motto of "never try to teach a pig to sing as it annoys the pig and wastes your time" comes to mind. I have purchased several copies of The Seat of the Soul. No doubt I will continue this pratice.

We are all students in the "Earth school," according to authors Gary Zukav and Linda Francis in The Heart of the Soul. And the time has come to create a whole new lesson plan. For thousands of years we were outwardly focused, as we mastered the tasks of cultivating food and building shelter. Unfortunately, we are still outwardly fixated, obsessively accumulating more wealth, material objects, and power. "What enabled our species to survive so long is now bad medicine. In fact, it is poison," according to Zukav and Francis. What we need now is an inward focus, in which we cultivate the heart and live in alignment with our souls.
As it turns out, The Heart of the Soul is a timely guidebook, with a release date exactly three months after the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center. "The pursuit of external power produces physical violence and destruction between nations. You can see this in every newscast," the authors write: <blockquote>Billions of people live in poverty, are hungry, and suffer oppression, and brutality. Changing these circumstances requires our hearts. It requires the ability to feel the pain and joy of others, and to take their needs as seriously as we take our own.</blockquote> And here is where the heart lessons come in. "As long as there are parts of yourself that reach outward to make you feel safe, valuable, and loved, you need to identify them and heal them." The authors include numerous exercises and activities to help readers feel and understand their emotions in order to "empower the soul" and live a more rewarding and joyful life. The words and intentions are indeed poignant and worthwhile. The numerous boxes, diagrams, and passages in bold print create a self-help structure that some will find simplistic and others will find inviting. --Gail Hudson
Book Description
<B>"THE LONGEST JOURNEY YOU WILL MAKE IN<BR> YOUR LIFE IS FROM YOUR HEAD TO YOUR HEART."</B>
With the rare combination of profound psychological insight and deep spirituality that has already drawn millions of readers to his two great national bestsellers, The Seat of the Soul and Soul Stories, prizewinning author Gary Zukav now joins with his spiritual partner Linda Francis to help us develop a new emotional awareness that is central to our spiritual development.
In The Seat of the Soul, Zukav brilliantly set forth his fundamental concepts, explaining how the expansion of human perception beyond the five senses leads to a new understanding of power as the alignment of the personality with the soul -- "authentic power." In Soul Stories, he showed how such concepts as harmony, cooperation, sharing, and reverence for Life express themselves in other people's lives. Now, in The Heart of the Soul, he and Francis take the next major step forward in showing us the importance of emotional awareness in applying these concepts to our own daily lives.

Its the content.......2007-05-08
Wrote this as a comment to a negative review but did not realize it wouldn't show on the main page, so here it is again.
Hi, The book is simple, the principles simplistic because our soul development is simple. Yet, we make the same mistakes over and over again. For me therapy is only the very beginning of the journey. Its through therapy we learn we have an emotional defense systems. However therapy fails ultimately if not followed through with soul development. If you believe in a higher self at all, its best to understand who and what we are from a higher perspective. Getting on top of the EGO is one of the hardest things there is to do because its the EGO that is in charge of us 99% of the time. This book guides you, if you practice its principals you may awaken to the truth. However, if not this book, you might like "The Disappearance of the Universe by Gary Renard", it can read as fantasy but its content might grab you. If not, so be it, your on another path. One thing for sure we cant get to where we are going alone, everyone will be there regardless of their our personal journey.
You have to read this book with your HEART, not your head........2007-04-27
I immediately purchased this book after reading Seat of the Soul (a book which resonated for me with every word.) I guess not many people shared my experience but Heart of the Soul basically changed me at the very core of my being. Reading this book brought forth an immediate change in how I process the experiences of my life and brought me in direct touch with my inner wisdom. I went through (and am still going through) a transformative experience of purging my body, mind and psyche of painful blocked emotions and negative patterns. It has been an unsettling, sometimes frightening experience (why doesn't he mention the physical symptoms that can come with unblocking ones energy centers?)
IF you are ready, and you actually DO what the book suggests, this can be a road to spiritual development in the truest sense of the word. Are you willing to truly FEEL your emotions and ask them what they are trying to tell you? Are you willing to pull yourself down into them and look at what is at the root? Are you willing to face the saddest, most painful and frightened parts of your personality? Are you ready to take responsibility for what you have been creating in your life and for what you continue to create in each moment? Are you ready to LET GO?
Personally, I no longer feel the need to experience anger, frustration or self-loathing - emotions I lived with daily before reading Gary's books. Instead of getting angry for example, I simply feel the *pain* of an experience directly. Something that used to trigger anger, now triggers a brief upwelling of pain right in my heart center. I feel the pain, I recognize it, and I honor it, but I don't need to express it outwardly and spread it as destructive, negative energy. When I got to the root of my emotions, I stopped judging myself, I stopped judging others and I started to allow for the possibility of something far, far greater to enter. I can literally feel my energy centers, especially my heart, transforming and opening.
This process has taken a lot of courage and trust - but I see the path now. I see what Gary means by Authentic Power and just a taste has been enough for me to continue moving forward. In order to walk down this path I also realize I have to lose who I thought I was. I have experienced an ongoing inner battle as my old point of view tries to maintain its grip on me, but I won't settle for less any longer. I won't settle for anything less than what Gary calls Authentic Power. I call it ME.
Importance of Emotional Awareness.......2007-03-19
"The Heart of the Soul: Emotional Awareness, " is written by Gary Zukav and Linda Francis, who is his spiritual partner. It gives important steps in allowing readers the ability to apply concepts regarding spiritual partnership(s) to daily life.
"The Heart of the Soul" will give readers the opportunity to gain greater awareness of their emotions, which allows for personal transformation and empowerment. Another insightful book written by two authors is "Nexus" by Deborah Morrison & Arvind Singh.
Dribble.......2007-03-09
This book is so full of dribble it is hard to get through. I know there are gems of wisdom imbedded in there somewhere, but to get through the dribble to find them is painful to say the least.
Here, this is copied from Oprah's website, maybe this is all you need to know........2007-01-25
A spiritual partnership is a partnership between equals for the purpose of spiritual growth. It requires:
Commitment
Focus on what I can learn about myself all the time, especially from my reactions--such as anger, fear, jealousy, resentment and impatience instead of judging or blaming others or myself.
Notice my emotions by feeling the physical sensations in my energy centers.
Notice my thoughts such as planning my reply, judging, analyzing, comparing and day-dreaming.
Notice my intention such as blaming, judging, needing to be right, wanting admiration, escaping into thoughts, intellectualizing and trying to convince.
Courage
Take responsibility for my feelings, experiences and actions. No blaming.
Practice integrity at all times. This often requires action such as speaking when frightened parts of my personality don't want to speak and not speaking when they feel compelled to speak.
Say or do what is most difficult. This includes sharing what I notice, if appropriate, when someone speaks or acts from a frightened part of her personality. Or sharing about myself what I am frightened to say and know that I need to say.
Compassion
Change my perspective from fearful to loving. Choose to see myself and others in a loving or appreciative way.
Release any distance I feel from anyone.
Be present while others are speaking--not preparing replies or judging.
Conscious Communication and Action
Consult my intuition.
Choose my intention before I speak or act.
Act from the healthiest part of my personality that I can find, rather than caretaking, fixing, teaching, judging, blaming or gossiping.
Speak personally and specifically rather than generally and abstractly. Use "I" statements rather than "we" or "you" statements.
Release attachment to the outcome. Trust the Universe.
If I find myself attached, begin again with Commitment, Courage and Compassion.

Book Description
<B><CENTER>People make hundreds of choices every day, yet most of them feel they have little control over their lives. Here, Gary Zukav, author of the monumental bestseller The Seat of the Soul, joins his spiritual partner, Linda Francis, in a revolutionary look at the power of choice to change lives from the inside out.</CENTER></B>
<BR> The Mind of the Soul describes with easy-to-read text and practical exercises how each moment in life presents a choice: whether to persist in old, limited patterns or to experiment with the unbounded, liberating potential ahead. Whether your choices are large -- concerning work, marriage, parenting, divorce -- or appear small, such as whether to show annoyance when angry, they carry consequences for which you must assume responsibility. The Mind of the Soul shows you how, in every situation, one choice among the many that present themselves is the optimal choice -- to create harmony, cooperation, or reverence for life. This special book offers the freedom to experiment with your life, to see what does or doesn't work for you, to change yourself instead of blaming others -- in short, to open your heart and develop authentic power.
With the same sensitivity that made The Heart of the Soul: Emotional Awareness so meaningful, Zukav and Francis guide you, step by step, in developing the ability to break free of the unconscious choices that hold you back and limit your fulfillment in life.

Useful, not much new, nicely written.......2006-01-31
Though I'm agnostic concerning the `new physics' (of which Zukav is an early advocate) I found this book to be very readable, almost simple. There is much for the choir here: after some short praise for science as a valuable tool `for the five senses' he jumps directly into `the science of the soul which is not limited to the five senses.' There is no explanation or argument here - maybe he does that in other books - and the reader is just expected to follow along. For those of us who don't follow along there is still good stuff here. His ideas concerning choice and responsibility are excellent as are his encouragements for self-understanding.
Still, though, there are such obvious and glaring inconsistencies that I think I must have missed something. Zukav takes an entire chapter, for example, to explain that you should give heed to you `inner landscape' and if something doesn't feel `right' or `good' then you shouldn't do it. (Horrible advice, I think. Feelings should be only one component of a decision and have been often known to lie.) This seems to be a recipe for a cloistered life, never moving out from what is comfortable. In later chapters he writes about how frightening it can be to move out of our comfort zones when our feelings are so at odds with our desires... I suppose this can be resolved with the New Age mantras that `There is no real good or bad,' or `There is no reality - it is all perception.'
All of the common themes are here - harmony, attention, attraction, the primacy of feelings - nothing new to the self-help reader but the `homey' spin and usefulness for reflection make it better than most.

Bad form, Mr. Guru.......2005-06-26
More repetitive, predictable, miserable garbage from a man seeking only to make money with his new age iconography. Don't prey on other people's instability to work through what are clearly your own issues with your experience in Vietnam, Mr. Zukav.
I might believe his 'teachings' if it wasn't so obvious the goal was to make money. Zukav's organization's complete lack of charitable donation, community reachout, or any form of selfless action I can only write him off as a well versed hack.
Insightful!.......2004-04-23
Gary Zukav and Linda Francis contend, perhaps reasonably, that a decision and an opportunity confront you every instant. You can choose to remain bogged down in a rut of habit and fear, or to break loose and create a boundless new future. This book - the newest in their "Seat of the Soul" series, which the authors seem to assume you have read - urges you to liberate yourself from the burden of the past, which they maintain really need be no burden. Fear not, hate not, resent not. Instead, chose harmonious cooperation, love, freedom, reverence and peace, choices that lead to true happiness. The authors maintain that you truly are free to choose, and exhort you to take responsibility for your choices. Abundant hypothetical examples, personal anecdotes and exercises provide the intellectual foundation, such as it is, for their New Age-flavored advice. We choose to believe that people who appreciate confident self-help counsel will find much here to savor. Skeptics, who may find that so many upbeat pronouncements give them the jitters, have made alternate choices and need not apply.

At an Esalen Institute meeting in 1976, tai chi master Al Huang said that the Chinese word for physics is Wu Li, "patterns of organic energy." Journalist Gary Zukav and the others present developed the idea of physics as the dance of the Wu Li Masters--the teachers of physical essence. Zukav explains the concept further:
<blockquote> The Wu Li Master dances with his student. The Wu Li Master does not teach, but the student learns. The Wu Li Master always begins at the center, the heart of the matter.... This book deals not with knowledge, which is always past tense anyway, but with imagination, which is physics come alive, which is Wu Li.... Most people believe that physicists are explaining the world. Some physicists even believe that, but the Wu Li Masters know that they are only dancing with it. </blockquote>
The "new physics" of Zukav's 1979 book comprises quantum theory, particle physics, and relativity. Even as these theories age they haven't percolated all that far into the collective consciousness; they're too far removed from mundane human experience not to need introduction. The Dancing Wu Li Masters remains an engaging, accessible way to meet the most profound and mind-altering insights of 20th-century science. --Mary Ellen Curtin
Book Description
With its unique combination of depth, clarity, and humor that has enchanted millions, this beloved classic by bestselling author Gary Zukav opens the fascinating world of quantum physics to readers with no mathematical or technical background. "Wu Li" is the Chinese phrase for physics. It means "patterns of organic energy," but it also means "nonsense," "my way," "I clutch my ideas," and "enlightenment." These captivating ideas frame Zukav's evocative exploration of quantum mechanics and relativity theory. Delightfully easy to read, The Dancing Wu Li Masters illuminates the compelling powers at the core of all we know.</p>
Customer Reviews:
I have mixed feelings (former scientist review).......2007-03-31
I think the virtue of this book is that it challenges the established scientific paradigm that the universe is made of discrete particles. In other words, that matter is as solid as it seems and somehow energy is separate from matter. It also makes it clear that there are plenty of mysteries left to explore about the nature of the universe, even the physical universe. In addition, it stresses the interrelationships between things and what the implications might be with respect to different subject areas such as psychology.
While it's true Zukav doesn't explain the physics in depth, it does give a layman a sense of the physics is about, what it may mean and good food for thought about how this might relate to spirituality. The book is not a science text, it is a flight of imagination and a pretty good one. Much of the contents is highly speculative, but it is thought provoking and easy to follow.
If you are a scientist or a well-read layman in the area of physics, you might be disappointed. Also, if you have a deep knowledge of Eastern religion you might find it superficial and perhaps even a bit annoying. I think this books makes a sacrifice in terms of accuracy for depth and wonder. As such, it doesn't quite captivate either major audience. However, it is a useful starting point for many people into these often difficult to understand areas.
With respect to organization, I would agree that there is room for improvement. However, it not meant to be a textbook. I can give the author some wiggle room on this because in some ways, it is rather poetic and its value is to convey a sense of awe and wonder. In the regard, I think the author achieved his purpose, but sometimes at the expense of accuracy.
Splendid and readable account of QM.......2007-03-27
I'm not sure I'm entirely convinced by the author's point of view, but he certainly succeeds in giving you a better understanding of QM and the philosophical questions involved in it.
No Strings Attached.......2007-02-24
This dated book simplifies the historical journey of discovery that became quantum physics. The author proposes interrelationships among: science/scientists, Jungian psychology, eastern mysticism, philosophy & logic, & languaging. Readers vary greatly, finding the physics (even w/o math): daunting, wonderfully enlightening, or boring, depending on the reader. The author simplifies physics mostly in layman's terms, but esoteric ideas are the nature of modern physics--outside the box. As a former physicist, I find his attempt quite admirable; as a former electronics engineer, I wish he'd addressed the error factor. As for accuracy, I cannot personally say, but Jack Sarfatti (whom I highly respect) stated that he'd created/reviewed the physics. Zukav's definitions of technician vs. physicist are relevant too--technicians may be challenged by the open-minded, brain-storming nature of physicists. Many (e.g. Bohm) approach (if not reach) Buddhist viewpoints. I've extensively studied Buddhism & agree with Zukav overall--indeed, he quotes Bohr, Stapp, et al in support of an interrelated universe--but some of his extrapolations are hyperbolic overstatements--reminding me of Gershom Scholem, the historian who popularized Kabbalah. Neither kabbalist nor mystic, his historical analysis was superb; his personal opinions weren't.
IMHO great value lies in exploding the either-or way people tend to view Reality (even in Buddhist philosophy!) which, per Zukav, Einstein, Heisenberg, et al, is only our View of actuality. Unreality has been defined as reifying former conclusions--i.e. forming a conclusion, forgetting it was only a conclusion, & taking it as the truth. This resembles psychological neuroses which are often a child's ways of coping with the world unconsciously continued into the present. Conclusions are analogies & all analogies are wrong--or they'd be identities. Thus, the periodic table, phyla of biology, concepts of waves & particles ...are all inherently incorrect--an error factor must be invoked. If so, the platypus won't upset the biologist & light won't upset the physicist. If water can be gas, liquid, or solid, why can't light be multi-stable? As Zukav states: p. 134: "We often discredit what we know when it contradicts what we have been taught is possible," p. 311: Henry Stapp "Everything we know about nature is in accord with the idea that the fundamental processes of nature lie outside space-time," & p. 313-4 fn: "According to Sarfatti's theory, the wave function of the photon pair is at a `higher level of reality' than the wave function of the separate photons...Every step up to a new level of reality is a step to a new order--that is the definition of a level of reality. of our multilevel hierarchical reality, i.e. the wave functions of events which are `separate' on one level of reality are correlated at the next level up: `separate events' at that level are, in turn, correlates at the next level up, & so on." This definitely parallels the four worlds of Kabbalah & reasonably correlates with the "kayas" (bodies or dimensions) of Tibetan Buddhism.
Join the dance.......2007-02-04
What a pity the two responses to "The Dancing Wu Li Masters" chosen as "spotlight" reviews are both cynical and derogatory. I hope they don't deter others from reading further. Neither reviewer seemed to grasp the fact that Gary Zukav was not writing about physics: He was writing about mental mastery in the *context* of physics, going to great lengths to explain the implications of "Wu Li." The whole book, in fact, is based on five of the many representations of "Wu Li." Zukav even says in the introduction, "This is not a book about physics or eastern philosophies."
All the same, Zukav checked his facts out with "five of the finest physicists in the world" and footnotes their comments where they "punctuate, illustrate, annotate and jab at everything in the text." What more can you want? Those physicists even allowed themselves to be named, surely professional suicide if Zukav is substantially incorrect - as some reviewers maintain. Zukav also warns the reader that knowledge in physics at the time of writing was set to progress rapidly. What was accepted then would soon be made redundant as more information arose.
I feel really sorry for those who get no joy out of this book. I, for one, will go back to it again and again out of sheer delight. Zukav puts it this way: "Most people believe that physicists are explaining the world. Some physicists even believe that, but the Wu Li masters know they are only dancing with it."
All I can say is that, with this book, I danced too.
Delightful easy read to understand the complicated world of physics.......2007-01-28
Gary Zukav managed as a lay jouralist to write this very easy to read and sometimes very funny book about science and physics. It is as valualable today as it was when first published 1979. Gary offers the notion that there is nothing that is nonsense, except the closed mind that refuses to see another reality. One of the early pioneers that has helped the 'birth of global consciousness' as we experience it today. An open heart and open mind is a necessary element to make the leap from the old world view to the new quantum world view. A must have in your library.

This collection of 280 thoughts by Gary Zukav (inspired by his bestseller The Seat of the Soul) is packaged like a one-a-day spiritual vitamin. The spiral-bound book can be propped open on a desktop or a kitchen counter. Readers simply flip the pages to find a quote to meditate on every day. Some of the quotes are true gems of wisdom, such as "The decisions that you make and the actions that you take upon the earth are the means by which you evolve" or "If you strike without compassion against the darkness, you yourself enter the darkness." Some offer more intellectual fodder than spiritual awareness, such as "Try looking at life as a beautifully well-organized dynamic." And only a few border on cliché, as in "No two people have the same reality." Nonetheless, Thoughts from the Seat of the Soul makes a great workplace or at-home companion--a daily reminder of why we're here and the true work we have before us. --Gail Hudson

Thoughts From the Seat of the Soul.......2007-03-08
This book is an excellent meditative companion for those who have read Gary Zukav's other books--"Seat of the Soul," "The Heart of the Soul," and "The Mind of the Soul" as well as "Soul Stories" and "The Dancing Wu Li Masters." I keep my copy of this book in my car where I can grab moments of mini-meditation when I am stuck in traffic or waiting for my daughter to get out of school.
The Best Thoughts.......2004-10-22

Gary's thoughts are wonderful.......2001-08-03
Gary Zukav has taken his book, The Seat of the Soul, and pulled out the best parts, the parts you would have underlined or highlighted or marked with a star, and put them into a spiral bound, stank-alone book that I think is very useful to me. I flip open a page and let it sit on my desk here next to my computer and every now and then I glance over at it and think about it. It's well worth the price.
The Seat of the Soul.......2000-12-19
Gary's openness allowed me to be at ease looking within myself. Page 99 of the book let me know that I will always have assistance. I now know I will never be alone again. Every Human should read this book it brings all you have learned about God and the Universe into a place where you understand ...what was missing ....I now know it's going to be ok..Thanks Gary for giving me this tool.
All encompassing approach to Life.......2000-07-19
I have only just started reading this book and I already find it all encompassing. The teaching so far is significant for me and enlightening for my life path.

One of Gary Zukav's many gifts as a speaker and bestselling writer is his ability to present complicated metaphysical and spiritual themes in a way that is simultaneously down-to-earth and spine-tingling. How does he do it? Through story--the oldest and most powerful form of teaching the mind and touching the heart. As a frequent guest on Oprah, Zukav has also discovered that the American public is starved for grounded information on ethereal topics such as intuition, soulful relationships, and nonhuman teachers.
Soul Stories is a collection of true tales that speak to themes such as "Reincarnation," "A Higher Form of Reasoning," "Psychic Archaeology," "The New Female," and "Universal Humans." Some stories come from Zukav's personal experience, like his sister's auto accident and his mother instantly knowing that her daughter was hurt even though they were 100 miles apart. It is tempting to view these 52 tales of fate, coincidence, and sixth sense with an air of doubt. "You have to decide," Zukav warns. "That means thinking about it and, even more important, discovering what you feel about it. Eventually, you might find that what you feel about a Soul Story is more important to you than what you think about it." No matter what you feel about the individual tales, you will leave this book trusting that the best way to understand the meaning and mysteries of life is through story. --Gail Hudson

<Font size="+1"><B>True Stories That Transform Lives</B></Font>
Writing with profound psychological and spiritual insight, prize-winning author Gary Zukav has had a major impact on the consciousness of millions. In his New York Times number-one bestseller, The Seat of the Soul, he explained how the expansion of human perception beyond the five senses leads to a new understanding of power -- the alignment of the personality with the soul -- which in turn leads to an awareness of our extraordinary creative abilities. Now, in one of the most important and useful books you will ever read, Soul Stories, Zukav shows how this new understanding of power -- authentic power -- transforms lives in countless ways.
Soul Stories is filled with marvelous stories that show how concepts such as intuition, harmony, cooperation, sharing, and reverence for life actually express themselves in people's lives. Best of all, the stories lead to practical advice on how you can discover your own Soul Stories and the truths they reveal about the deepest sources of your being. Wonderfully readable, Soul Stories is a wise and inspirational book.

Author of Suicide/The Explosion Within.......2007-04-06
I found Gary Zukav's Soul Stories well written and very enlightening. I believe that there are several ways that our higher power makes its presence known to us, bringing forth knowlege, as well. There are many religions in the world and many thoughts of what soul, spirit and awareness is, forcing us all to think of each other's level of consciousness, before passing judgement. Depending on each person's level of consciousness, one could argue the credibility of what is written. I believe that each person seeks God, or his/her higher power, according to an individual personality. This is a book that I have and will continue to read, over and over again with each time finding out something new about myself.
Soul Stories.......2007-03-21
Gary Zukov is a completely different person, apparently, than he once was. It's hard to imagine Mr. Zucov being anything other than the poet, the empathetic, the authentic author of The Seat of the Soul. In this, Soul Stories, he speaks of his past experiences and behaviors and in the changes that have taken place as he grew into his true nature. The reader is compelled to evaluate his own self as the author entertains with his traditional poetic style. This book was a gift to me from my daughter, and no one knows me better. I love this book. I turn to it often, and I trust others do as well. A nice companion to The Seat of the Soul.
A great book.......2006-03-16
It is written in simple words yet the ideas are huge. One should know a little about reincarnation before reading this book. Either way it is a great introduction to age-old beliefs and lifestyles. He knows what he is talking about through experience and understands how to help people relate it to their own personal lives. Perhaps you will only need 1 or 2 books by this author.
Must Read More than Once.......2005-12-10
I liked this book enough to read it 3 times. I don't know if it is the way that the information is conveyed or the fact that it is such a different way of looking at things that I didn't get it the first time. I have read other books by Gary Zukav so I read this one again and understood it the 2nd time and really got it the 3rd time.
Some good spiritual advice.......2003-06-12
In Soul Stories, Gary Zukav (author of The Dancing Wu Li Masters and Seat of the Soul) guides the reader on a spiritual journey towards greater openess and a feeling of connection with the world and one another. The stories range from personal experiences to parables. While all of them teach valuable lessons, I was not always comfortable with the way he tells them. As another reviewer pointed out, Zukav often writes as though his audience were young children. It's one thing to put a message simply and concisely, but to put things too simply can seem condescending to the reader. For example, in the section about how "new" men and women differ from "old," he goes on at great length describing how men have traditionally been protectors and providers and women have been concerned with raising children and taking care of the home. I think most people in their teens or older are aware of this and are also aware that these roles have been changing. In one story, there is a confrontation between an "old" style man and a "new" style woman (I put these in quotes partly because I'm skeptical of such neat categories); the woman wants to go back to school and pursue a more independent lifestyle, while her husband cannot understand this. This would have seemed more dramatic thirty or forty years ago than today, though there are people who still adhere to traditional roles. Zukav also describes emotionally charged workshops where people share and explore their various feelings and relationships. His style is very much in the spirit of such human potential workshops where the goal is to evolve or expand. I am somewhat skeptical of this approach, as it can give people a certain conceit about their spirituality compared to supposedly less evolved people (e.g. the comparison between old and new style men and women). I have been mainly criticizing the book, but I also found enough in it to recommend it to anyone interested in...yes, evolving and expanding their consciousness. For example, I liked a story about a man struggling through a barren desert until he finally finds a lush land with abundant food and water. A simple parable, but effective and well told. Gary Zukav writes with quite a bit of optimism about how quickly people are changing. Looking at the world, it often seems as though we aren't changing quickly enough, but I hope he is right. And following the advice in books such as this can only help.

Product Description
At an Esalen Institute meeting in 1976, tai chi master Al Huang said that the Chinese word for physics is Wu Li, "patterns of organic energy." Journalist Gary Zukav and the others present developed the idea of physics as the dance of the Wu Li Masters--the teachers of physical essence. Zukav explains the concept further:
The Wu Li Master dances with his student.

Idealistic...But...Not Realistic.......2006-04-18
I think the first thing, that one needs to relay about this book, is something Zukav says, at the very beginning. In the Forward, he in no uncertain terms lets the reader know that the thoughts he shares throughout this book, are how HE sees life, and he may not expect everyone to share his views. So after reading the entire book, I remembered those early words, and thought, what a clever way to say he has no proof of his theories on human behavior.
In "The Seat Of The Soul", Gary Zukav, presents some thought provoking ideas. He presents his theory that people are multi sensory beings, as opposed to 5 sensory. That we have a higher self, that not all of us can reach. Another is that we have souls, that live many life times. We have lessons to learn, and our soul will inhabit as many bodies as it takes to learn this lesson. It could be 5 life times or 50. He believes in universal love, in being reverent, and that love conquers and heals all. And further, there is nothing that love cannot heal. That we can empower ourselves by the choices we make.
These are all great ideals, and I think that Mr. Zukav has thought these things out and presented them for us to consider in a detailed manner. However wonderful it would be if everyone in the world, all the billions of people could love one another, the ideas are just not realistic. Who could possibly love Osama Bin-Laden? Yes, we make choices everyday, that lead out lives in one direction or another, and we should consciously make choices for the good. But there were times where Zukav seemed to me to contradict himself. He says, we should step in when we see a child being abused, but then he says, we should not send Armies to defend ourselves. This even though, I know he is not offering proof for any of his ideas, just did not make sense to me.
Toward the end of the book, he speaks of love. How Love can heal ANYTHING! I took quite offense to this part. My own son, had been diagnosed with a rare form of lymphoma. I love him, as only a mother could, but it was not my love(alone), that has my son in remission for 3 years now. It was Chemotherapy, a stem cell transplant, and one heck of a great doctor.
This book would serve as a good look at how wonderful the world would be if everyone could act in the manner or strive for the qualities that Zukav describes. It's just not realistic. And what's more, I think it may be dangerous to anyone who may take it too seriously. I have a friend, who highly recommended this book to me. He swears by it, and lives by it. He tries to follows Zukav's ideals, and when he fails at it,gets angry and punishes himself for failing.
If you think you may be interested in this type of "self-help" book, it's probably worth the read for a few good ideas on trying to improve yourself. You may think about the ideas given and incoporate those the few doable ones into your life. However, I think the best bet would be a borrowed copy to check out.
For me, a good Yoga session, will bring me to a better level of consciousness, and it took one of those, to clear my head after this read....Laurie
