I have had experience with accounting and found this book to be fairly basic. However, if you are a beginner with no knowledge of accounting, this is a good textbook. I read one of the other reviews about how there is a bunch of useless junk on each page and while this is partially true, it would be UNBEARABLE to read if there wasn't this so called "junk" on every page. Overall a good textbook that I will keep around as a reference for accounting basics.

After reading Horgren's book on financial accounting, this was a relief. It is easy to read and fun to understand. But make sure to ask assistance from you professor. No book is perfect.

This was my first textbook in corporate finance at the undergraduate university level (I have the 2nd edition). I found it fairly easy to understand but rigorous enough to motivate me to want to learn more. I now manage instituional portfolios of over $3 billion in bonds and derivatives, and I still refer to it today, nearly 20 years later.

The book is far too easy for professionals and for university students. The blanks exercises are really stupid. If you are not experienced in mathematics or statistics you will probably like the book because there are no derivations of formules or demonstrations of theorems.

I love Norton, but for this author THE RIVERSIDE is the definative edition, not perfect, but in this case; the best and only book you need for the Bard. I miss the one-volumn edition, but everyone will love the bonus material that has been added in this 2 vol boxset! IT HAS EVERYTHING a student will ever need and more than most professors can use. For 99.98% of the population: this book is MORE than complete...I think you would ahve to go to the Folios or Quatros directly to get a more book with more authority.

Thirty years ago ..........2006-11-10

as an undergraduate I lugged the one volume edition of this across various campuses, quite in love with the information and extras we finally were allowed access to after the censored versions of shakespeare we had in high school. Having been recently (rather abruptly) retired, I wanted a Shakespeare to read that was both
familiar and not *quite* as heavy as the one volume edition I carried around in the old days. This edition
is excellent. I'm not in a position to go into textual criticism, but it has more than enough for me right now, and of course has all the references one needs to go further. It is an excellent buy at an excellent price.

If you're looking for the best edition of Shakespeare's works, you can't do any better than the Riverside Edition. The editors have done a top-notch job with the second edition, making well-educated dramaturgical decisions based on proven ideas and facts. Includes late co-authored pieces Edward III, Sir Thomas More, and Richard II; not to mention a load of Shakespeare-related records/documents and photos of popular plays in performance.

The glossary is extensive, yet not overwhelming and each of the play commentaries are extremely insightful (especially those on the comedies by Professor Anne Barton--no relation to John).

Dramaturgy at its finest.......2006-08-02

When I was looking to buy a complete works I was drawn to ARDEN. Being a performer, the Arden scripts were those that helped me with my personal dramaturgy the most. However when I went to look inside a "complete works" published by Arden, I was thoroughly dissappointed. They had zero footnotes, and very little commentary on the pieces. That is when a woman bumped into me and told me if I were looking for a complete works, I should go with Riverside's second edition. I was in the Tudor Guild bookshop in Ashland, Oregon at the time. This woman told me that this edition, is the same edition that Libby Apel (Head of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival) gives to all of her friends as a gift.

It has full footnotes for translation, and language comparison. It also has a short commentary before each play and poem describing the time in which it was wrote, and for what reason. This came in handy when I was mounting a 10 minute production of Richard III. Also in parenthesis are specific words that may have been changed over the years. One may revert back to the appendicies to see what the word might have been in the first, second and third folio text. If you are looking to study a singular play, I would truly reccommend buying them on their own through Arden Shakespeare in the Second or Third Editions. However, If you are looking to own the complete works I would suggest the Riverside Shakespeare second Edition. I now own 3 complete works anthologies, and this one (my first) is still the best.

When this edition first came out, it bumped Signet's Complete Shakespeare out of the classrooms and into oblivion. 30 years later I still have both books, and each is a true gem. The Riverside was quite something to have to carry around campus, but what brave memories I recall ~ and it is an honour to be able to recommend this edition to one and all. Bravo!

I found this book to be a wonderful supplement to everything I learned on my ob/gyn rotation. Everything I needed was in this book for my end of rotation exam on which I scored very well. I would highly recommend it.

PERFECT OB/GYN BOOK FOR A PA STUDENT!!!.......2007-02-16

This book is an excellent introduction to Ob/Gyn and was very useful for my unit clinical medicine exam. This book is very easy to read and provides a self-assessment review questions after each chapter that were very helpful study prep. I read this book in 2 days! It's a good size, soft cover, and very handy!!! This will be a very useful book for my Ob/Gyn rotation next year. It's a keeper!

Note: there is a typo in chapter on oral contraceptives; it should be "mifepristone" not mifepristine. Other than that it's a great book :)

Obstetrics and Gynecology by Beckman.......2006-12-28

-easy to read, with short chapters-got through this twice on my rotation
-excellent diagrams and tables
-not sharp enough to pick up on ANY factual errors like yellow leaf
-good conceptual introduction to general OB/GYN
-explanation for answers are sparse, but at this level you should realize that you should read from different sources, you should be able to fill in the blanks, and you should be using other questions books
-supplemented with HY OB/GYN, Case Files, Pre-Test, and Blueprints Q&A to prepare for the shelf
-overall would recommend Beckman, HY, and Pre-test as minimal for shelf. Case Files was ok, but HY covered most of the points and I felt the clincal vignettes in HY was better for teaching you how to think like an OB/GYN. Blueprints was comparable to Pre-Test.
-for those looking for a more rigorous text, I felt NMS was better at explaining things in terms of basic science. And the questions weren't half bad (although I only went through about 1/3 of them). For this reason, those starting out thrid year with OB/GYN should consider using NMS.

Detailed info, but full of typos and errors.......2006-10-15

Bought this book for my Ob/Gyn rotation, thinking it would be the best resource because it's designed around the APGO learning objectives, which the shelf exam is also supposedly based on.

Strengths:
- coverage of all topics you might see on the exam
- generally good resource for basic intro to ob/gyn
- some useful tables and graphs
- lots of multiple choice questions for testing recall after reading

Weaknesses:
- way too many typos and factual errors. This book has obviously been through multiple revisions over the years, without careful editing. For example, they say that you should get the tetanus booster shot once btw 14-16 yo. Most of us know that you should get this booster once every 10 years. There is way too much sloppiness in this book for it to be a reliable resource.
- questions are mostly pure factual recall; there is very little clinical reasoning. The shelf exam is almost entirely clinical vignettes with long stems, requiring clinical reasoning. So the book's questions are pretty much useless for preparing for the shelf.
- the questions on the CD-ROM are 95% the same as the back-of-chapter questions, but the answer choices are rearranged and there are more typos and incorrect answers marked. There is no reasoning given with the correct answer choice.
- the 5% of other questions are often outdated and seem to be left over from previous editions (e.g. questions on Norplant or other things that are not mentioned at all in the text).
- multiple diagrams seem to be left over from previous editions, not particularly clear; most of these should be redrawn. Some of the things you'd like to see in diagrams are not there.
- multiple tables have duplicate entries, or things have slipped from one column to another. Very sloppy typesetting/layout; poor design makes the book hard to read.

This is an OK resource for general background reading for the shelf. For better exam prep, I would recommend Case Files, which I used and liked very much; much easier read, with much better graphs and tables, organized for learning, understanding and retention.

Acanthus Press has packaged an extensive collection of archival photography with the lucid and expert essays of four appreciative observers of Beaux-Arts and Eclectic architecture to produce this monumental, two-volume tribute to John Carrere and Thomas Hastings. The architectural quality of the firm's work is reflected in the lavish production values assigned to book. This seems particularly apt since since Carrere & Hastings included among their commissions the New York Public Library. The quality of the Gilded Age firm's work was matched by the volume and range of its output: hotels, retail and office buildings, country estates, city mansions, theatres, institutional buildings, churches, monuments and exhibitions. Through these many projects, Carrere & Hastings put their stamp on the face of the nation and helped define an age. In addition to preserving the memory of many buildings that have long ago been replaced by less aesthetically pleasing structures, the text surprises with insights and vignettes on C&H, the period in which the firm operated and even public policy. Essayist Charles D. Warren's contribution on civic architecture provides an excellent introduction to the evolution of policy and practice in the awarding of architectural contracts on government buildings, beginning with the Tarnsey Act of 1893. Essayist William Morrison, who has made a specialty of the study of Broadway theater architecture, applies it here, but extends his reach to a range of other commercial buildings, with a special focus on C&H's hotels--too few of which survive. The credentials of the writers have produced text that is both authoritative and accessible. If I could award this book ten stars I would, it's that good. Acanthus Press puts out gorgeous, well researched books and this could be their best publishing to date. Carrere and Hastings excelled in the grand Beaux Art style and it is so refreshing that so much of their work has survived. This is an exhaustive, scholarly piece of art and the author, Kate Lemos should be proud of this work. I was aware of much of the architecture of this Carrere and Hastings, but was surprised at the breath of their work. The images in this book are fantastic and the text is highly informative. If you have any interest in Carrere and Hastings or Guilded Age architecture, or just frankly appreciates gorgeous books, then you will love this book. In a word, spectacular.

Might be better with separate outlines on each topic.......2007-03-04

I used this outline for review and with some problems I was having in a course on computational robotics I was taking a couple of years ago and I found this book to be an excellent review that answered all of my questions. However, my stepson used it in his statics and dynamics classes to help with the material when it was being presented to him for the first time, and he said he felt it brushed over some of the material in both classes. Even though this is a hefty outline, perhaps it would be better if they dedicated separate Schaum's outlines to each subject - statics and dynamics - and covered more ground in each subject rather than putting both subjects in the same book. This outline even has one chapter on mechanical vibrations, but it is just barely an overview and hardly gets into the subject at all. It might be best if that chapter were deleted entirely and more space spent on the subjects at hand.

I have always liked the Schaum's series of books. They are straightforward and to the point. This text was no exception.

The most important aspect of this book is that it can be used as a supplement to most of the popular texts. I used it along with Beer & Johnston and Shames.

Quite a useful book on a difficult, hands-on subject.

A good supliment.......2002-07-02

I have had Statics and will be taking Dynamic's next semester. I bought this book so I could get a head start on next semester as I heard the professor is tough and the material is difficult.

The parts that cover Statics were a very good supliment to what I had learned last semester. Kind of like the Reader's Digest version, I couldn't figure out what parts they had left out. It seemed pretty complete to me. They even covered stuff we didn't. We didn't have anything in our class wrt differential equations, but this book did. Since I have had diff eq, it was nice to see it being put to use and I learned something.

On the Dynamic's side, it is a bit of a tough go. I am using this as a primary/only text and do not have the benifit of an instructor. I am wading through slowly. I wish there was a bit more explination before the examples. This is where an in class text book would be helpful. I believe that this book will be a valuable resource when I actually start the class.
