My husband and I had been married for 23 years and were Christians. We were feeling like we had grown apart and needed something to bring us back together. This book did it for us! Each night we read our pages together and answered, truthfully, the questions at the end. It opened a whole new chapter in our marriage and we have recommended it to all our friends. Matter of fact, we are going to read it again!

Devotional reading at night in our home used to be tiring. As a belated wedding gift we began to read this book together in place of some other books. We both enjoy the daily messages and the stories at the beginning of each week. Highly recommend this book. Each reading is 1-4 pages max. Helps in situations were your spouse tends to fall asleep.

This devotional for couples has been a delightful read thus far. Please note, however, that my husband and I have only read the Sun., Mon. and Tue. devotional. Every day you and your spouse read a 1-2 page story or article and one bible verse relating to the same. The reading is followed by questions that you both answer to help you get to know each other's thoughts on certain topics that come up in marriage. I think the questions are an important part of this devotional, as they really create the opportunity to discuss topics you may not have brought up otherwise. After you read the story and answer the questions there is a short prayer that you and your spouse pray together. This is an easy way to introduce praying together into your relationship. This devotional has the potential to really solidify the bond you already have or create one, if needed. Please note that if you are looking more for a devotional that will allow you to complete a bible study together you may want to look for something else. This book definitely prods you to include God in your relationship, but it doesn't specifically focus on "bible study". Also, you may note that each daily devotional will only take about 15 min., which is good if you are tried for time. Please remember this review is only based on three days of reading; I have no idea if the book is going to do a complete turn around. Enjoy and may God bless your marriage!

This workbook is essential for anyone who has a loved one with BPD or suspected BPD traits.

Perjorative.......2007-03-23

This book has some good information. It also has very good writing exercises which can be of great use to those living with people who have Borderline Personality Disorder.

However, it contains some very judgmental language. The author, for instance, has categorized people with BPD by using terms like "witch", "queen", and "waif". How encouraging people to think about others who suffer from a mental illness by labeling them with inherently perjorative words could be considered helpful is beyond my understanding.

The author seems to employ black and white thinking, which is ironic, considering black & white thinking is a hallmark of those with Borderline disorder. People are either BP's or non-BP's according to this book. There are no shades of gray.

After purchasing this book on the recommendation of a health professional, I was saddened to see how judgmental and potentially harmful it is. It sets up a dynamic of us vs. them. I have since found out that many people feel this way, but since they have BPD, their opinions are not to be trusted (according to this book); they are simply being "manipulative".

this book has proven to be an excellent resource for family members and co-workers who have expressed some frustrations in their relationships with individuals with BPD. it provides helpful background information to help people understand the problem and conceptualize it. it provides realistic exercises and suggested approaches that usually seem to be very helpful in relating with individuals with BPD. if one book to provide, i prefer this book over the other eggshell book in that it is better received, more understandable, and more useful. some patients' loved ones take it and hide it for a while as they begin reading it. almost all find that eventually it is most effective when there is real cooperation between partners on learning new, more effective ways of relating. i've given out at least one dozen copies of this book and it is very popular. i believe it is well worth the price, new, given the tools and hope that it can provide.

Excellent for some, unhelpful for me.......2005-11-03

This book may be an excellent resource for many people in a relationship with someone who has BPD - but it wasn't very helpful for me. BPD is a disorder with many variations (a person only needs to meet five out of nine criteria to be diagnosed), and although the authors do a good job of outlining the different types of BPD in the first couple of chapters, all their advice seems focused on borderlines who rage, are abusive and manipulative. I found little in this book to help me cope with my girlfriend's self-injury, suicide attempts, clinginess and dissociation.

I have two other reservations about the Stop Walking on Eggshells books. The first is that they seem to encourage the worrying trend of people "diagnosing" their loved ones with mental illnesses - something only a mental health professional is qualified to do. Kreger claims to be the ex-partner of someone with BPD, yet her ex has never been diagnosed with the condition - she just suspects he may have it. Secondly, the books are very negative about people with BPD, seeming to assume that they never admit they have a problem, try to seek help, or work on their issues. From participating in online communities, I know many people with BPD who not only do all these things but are making tremendous progress, and in some cases have even recovered. I understand the importance of accepting that your BPD friend or family member may never change, but please don't tar all borderlines with the same brush!

Before buying this book, I suggest reading the back cover of its sister volume, "Stop Walking on Eggshells". If the description there sounds like your relationship, you'll probably gain a lot from reading this book. If not, look elsewhere. A book I found far more helpful was "Allies in Healing" by Laura Davis.

As the premier North-American-based professional association of biblical scholars, the Society of Biblical Literature ('SBL') not only publishes the prestigious and tightly-edited Journal of Biblical Literature ('JBL'); its influence has a knock-on effect on other journals in this and ancillary fields.

Thus, the imperative of an authoritative 'SBL' style guide is obvious. Not so evident is how we lived without a full style guide for so many years until this superb collaborative project between SBL and Hendrickson Publishers emerged.

The editors have removed one of our last remaining excuses for sloppiness and inconsistency. I suppose we owe them our thanks ...

A Required Text!.......2005-04-23

This book must be on your shelf within easy reach if you are a graduate student of religion, a seminary student, or a scholar in the wide field of religion. Why? Because this book gives you the information you need to make your papers, articles, and books conform to the most used style in religious literature today--SBL.

In other words--student, when you see this on your recommended booklist for a religion class, buy it! It will help you make better grades! And, scholars, it will cut down editing time for submitting work for publication as well.

To put it colloquially, this book is the "Bible" of religious research!

Standard manual on style.......2004-12-03

The SBL Handbook of style is designed for those who are writing papers or dissertations in the field of ancient Near Eastern, Biblical and early Christian Studies. Most matters of style are comprehensively addressed, and where they are not, the editors refer the reader to the Chicago Manual of Style. The book is extremely useful for those who want to standardise their abbreviations and references. Several issues will have to be resolved in the next edition. First, although the book is nicely printed, the binding is poor, and fell apart only after I had used the book a few times. Second, several essential abbreviations are missing from the list of Greek and Latin works. Third, not all abbreviations are located in the same part of the book, and so one has to keep going backwards and forwards to find the appropriate reference. Fourth, the editors sometimes display a dogmatic approach to style. For example they insist that writers ought to use Miriam Webster's Collegiate Dictionary for their spelling. This dictionary however is only one alongside many other excellent dictionaries such as, the American Heritage, and the Random House. These criticisms should not detract from the importance and usefulness of this volume, which I recommend wholeheartedly.

The New Standard.......2000-03-17

This easy-to-use, inexpensive volume is a must-own for all who write in the fields of biblical and ancient near eastern studies. College and seminary students, graduate students, teachers, and researchers will find this book a fine substitute for Turabian and/or the CMOS for all but the most obscure situations. The discipline-specific nature of the work also allows greater depth of coverage without making it overlong. Get it today, or be behind the standard tomorrow.

Good for families.......2007-02-22

This is a really good book for couples who are raising children. I would wait to get it until your children are about three years old, though. Many of the questions in the book deal with discipline and other concerns that young children aren't really going through. This is a good daily devotional for couples who are raising children. It makes you think about things together and learn to be better parents.

Best book on the subject.......2003-02-25

So why is it out of print? (Had no trouble getting one though.) This book is based on a series of magazine articles for Old Home Journal, so the style is informal. The carefully chosen color pictures set it apart from its competition, A Field Guide to American Houses, by the other husband and wife team. But mostly it's the authors' ability to explain in simple language the events that caused the rise and fall of the various styles: the switch to stud framing, the widely circulated pattern books, the Arts and Craft movement, World War I and the various European styles brought home by the soldiers, etc.

House Styles in America is a well constructed collection of american houses dating back to the old Ironworks houses, Like the Turner house and Bacons Castle,but this book also contains modern houses, like Phillip Johnson's glass house. This book is a great addition to anyones growing architecture library.

Zack gets a package from his uncle who lives in Florida. Eagerly he opens it to find an alligator key chain. He takes it to the sink to wash it and it comes to life, growing to the size of the sink. The gator says her name is Bridget and Zack puts her into the bath where she showers and grows even more. Soon she is a full-sized girl gator and she is hungry. Zack feeds her all the food in the fridge, then they go out to play, amazing Zack's friends. As the day draws to a close, Bridget starts to shrink and by the time they get home, she is back to her key chain size. "Don't forget to water me tomorrow," she says.

This book will take your toddler on a terrific ride to where only imagination can go. My son Devon and I have been looking at the pictures for over a year, but now that he is almost three and knows all his letters, I am reading with my finger under the words and he is following along and he still loves Bridget's story as much now as he did when we weren't working so hard on the words.

This is a book for beginning readers. The words are simple, grammar too. Bridget's story is sure to keep your toddler interested, so much better than the "See Spot Run" kind of early readers. If you want your child reading before Kindergarten, and I do, then this book and books like it are very good additions to your toddlers reading arsenal.

This book is a delight -- it is a great book for emergent readers, but it is more fun to read out loud. Zack's alligator has attitude -- and the giggles from my daughter made it a book we had to add to her personal library.
