A little bit old hat now. A real primer if you are interested in opening your spirituality. The stories of Edgar Cayce are interesting.

5 out of 5 stars couldn't set this one down..........2006-06-28

This is a book that gets to the point. It's the "how to" book we're looking for. I started reading it Friday evening - and finished it on Sunday. Worth every penny. Thanks Henry.

5 out of 5 stars An eye opener.......2005-02-23

I bought this book a week ago at a local bookstore.
I read it in two days. It is a real delight! In 236 pages, Reed covers the most of ESP, giving credit to hypnosis as a natural channel to connect with our unconscious.
The book is an eye opener (third eye?) on the infinite possibilities that every human being has to connect with his inner mind. It is right there, hidden inside and so easy to reach. With some dicipline and your own audio tape, the teachings of this book can really have an increadible impact on your life.
Buy it, read it and apply it (get a pendulum too!) this is my best recommendation

5 out of 5 stars For the Serious Student.......2004-02-24

I've now read my share of psychic "How to" books, but this one takes the cake. This book tells teaches more than how to be psychic, but also where it all comes from, psychology and philosophy, it also combinds scientific facts and experiments to prove psychic existance, thus, giving you a broader aspect of the psychic phenomenon. For those who have finished your beginner books, and want something more in depth and fullfilling, this is the book. After reading this book, I had to order more Edgar Cayce books! Happy reading!

5 out of 5 stars AMAZING.......2003-06-11

Ok amazing is kinda a strong word, but as far as understanding goes, this book is awesome. I mean it has everything that you would think to ask and I have read alot of books, but I HIGHLY recommend this one to be your first and I am a pretty tough critic.

3 out of 5 stars Better than some other Cayce books on stones..........2007-02-03

...though I still feel that Kaehr's book is the best one.

This work introduces much technical information regarding energy, Light, colour, gemstones, and the Cayce readings. It regurgitates a lot of the typical information about gemstone therapy and lore, with some of the very same charts that can be found in Kunz's Curious Lore of Precious Stones.

This work is a foundation to colour therapy and its application to gemstone healing, and it also is a good introduction to those who shall wish to study a more classical approach to working with stones. This guide also introduces much of the science behind energy, colour, vision, and Light, and helps prepare the reader for confronting these topics in the here-and-now.

5 out of 5 stars For All You Crystal Lovers!.......2004-04-15

Although this book does does not contain as much info and color pictures as Judy Hall's crystal books ("The Illustrated Guide to Crystals" and "The Crystal Bible"), the combination of the three is a must! Cayce's book not only contains info on stones, but how colors, planets, months and also minerals relate. Since Edgar Cayce is one of the most well known psychics, it's good to get his views on crystals. There are many Cayce readings in this book also. It was a good help to me! Hope you enjoy!

4 out of 5 stars Not What I Was Looking For.......2002-01-26

The book gave excellant background information on the subject.

I was not looking for background, so it was not helpful to me. I believe it would be very good for someone interested in the technical aspects of the subject.

5 out of 5 stars There is magic in colors and gem stones.......1999-07-27

This book is just full of information about colors and gem stones. It makes you realize we live in a world that is alive with atomic particles and their vibrations and influences on the human body. It is almost like reading about magic, but without the mystery produced by illusions. Any reader interested in these subjects will enjoy reading it. Even the scientific parts are really interesting.

5 out of 5 stars The only way to channel your higher self!.......2004-04-16

I loved this book! Anything from Edgar Cayce. He does channeling the safe way, through God!

4 out of 5 stars great book!.......2002-07-19

I am a practicing buddhist and contrary to the first reviewer I believe this book is very much in line with buddhist teachings. One has to draw their own parallels from it. But I strongly recommend it to any one who is interested in developing their inner world. Any one who believes that our minds/souls are huge un-tapped energy fields will enjoy this book. Its [inexpensive] and it is easy to ready. Great book.

1 out of 5 stars Quite disappointed.......2002-02-07

Throughout the whole book, there are so much information being repeated over and over again. Otherwise it might be only 5 pages book. The author has limited knowledge in this area. It seems that the reason for writing this book is to make money out of his father's name (Edgar Cayce).

5 out of 5 stars *Way* exceeded my expectations.......2001-12-17

This book is packaged as a massmarket paperback, the kind you'd buy in a supermarket checkout line. I bought it casually and didn't expect more than a mildly interesting collection of Edgar Cayce's thoughts on the subject of channelling. Wrong! Reed is an excellent writer, and presents some rather huge ideas with remarkable clarity. This book is intelligent, fast-paced (but thorough) and most of all -- exciting! I couldn't wait to try some of the end-of-chapter exercises, especially the one on communicating with your Higher Self through dreams. The implications for creativity (writing, music, etc.) are empowering too.

5 out of 5 stars A warm and illuminating guide.......2001-05-29

Having never read any books in the Edgar Cayce series before, I found that this book not only lived up to the promise of its title, but also provided an excellent introduction to Edgar Cayce's work in general. The idea of "channelling" sounds a little dated, but the opening chapter put me at ease immediately with an explanation of this very wide-ranging word.

The remainder of the book is a thorough discussion of all kinds of channelling, from dreams, creative and inspirational writing, imagination and intuition, to the less everyday techniques of channelling other spirits, trance channelling and healing. Even in these later chapters Henry Reed does a marvellous job of providing down to earth descriptions and explanations and is quick to point out the pitfalls of some methods.

Each chapter opens with the sayings of Edgar Cayce. As a newcomer to his work I had some difficulty grasping the meaning or significance of these quotes. Henry Reed's explanations, on the other hand, I found both clear and fascinating. His illustrative diagrams I found especially illuminating. Henry Reed also draws upon his own reading and research to amplify and demonstrate his explanations.

Although this book is not really set out as a "how to" guide, there are many suggestions for meditation and other exercises, and some group exercises, which are well worth following.

In the end, channelling your higher self is about being yourself as only you can be. As Henry Reed says, "God intends for the world to have your expression. Use your intuition to know your soul's identity, your heart's true desire, and let it be." And Henry Reed has given a great deal of himself and his own love in writing this book. His warmth shines through.

As for the work of Edgar Cayce, the best recommendation I can give is that I had already bought a couple more books about him before finishing this one.

Book Description

In a career that spanned the first half of this century, Philip Trammell Shutze produced over 750 architectural works. Because his production was so large, this first book to examine his buildings concentrates on the more important ones, which as a body represent an architectural achievement of a very high order of refinement, grace, and beauty.

Although Shutze practiced from 1912 to 1968, covering the period of the ascendancy of modernism through its final triumph, he remained a firmly committed classicist, practicing out of an office in Atlanta where he produced an extraordinary body of monumental commercial and institutional buildings and country villas.

After graduating from Georgia Tech, Shutze stayed a year at Columbia University before he won the prestigious Rome Prize in 1915. Travelling to Rome later that year, he became a member of one of the earliest classes of fellows to occupy the recently completed American Academy on the Janiculum overlooking the city. The magnificent palazzo designed by America's most renowned architectural firm, McKim, Mead, and White, did not however please the fellows, who found it "too new," and therefore not authentic (Shutze would later devote much attention to techniques for instantly aging building facades).

With the coming of the First World War, Shutze and most of his classmates stayed in Rome as Red Cross volunteers, but when the war was over they returned to he Academy and to their studies. During his five years in Rome, Shutze immersed himself in learning everything he could about the great buildings of the Renaissance and Baroque periods. He painstakingly measured those buildings as well as the monuments of the Roman Empire, committing the smallest of details to paper and to memory.

Returning to the U.S. in 1920, Shutze worked in New York for Mott Schmidt, who designed townhouses for such families as the Astors, Morgans, and Vanderbilts, and he also worked for F. Burrall Hoffman, whose masterpiece is Villa Vizcaya in Miami. Within a few years, though, he returned to Georgia where he remained as the epitome of the "gentleman architect," designing some of the most beautiful buildings ever to grace the American landscape.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Classic Atlanta.......2006-02-18

This is a wonderful book on one of Atlanta's finest residential architects. Mr. Shutze had a command of many styles, but he most famous for his Neo-Palladian Swan House, he built for the Inman's in Buckhead, this home is simply a masterpiece and we are so fortunite that it is today open to the public. This book has wonderful images of the Inman home and many other opulant mansions that Philip Shutze designed in and around Atlanta. The text is quite scholarly and informative, and as I had already stated the book includes many vivid images. Atlanta was fortunite to have had an architect of this calibur designing its great homes during the Golden Age of American craftmanship. Like Houston's great residential architect John Staub, Shutze was a master of many styles, but always knew one didn't need to guild the lilly, so to speak, he also, like Staub, always designed a home to integrate fluidly with it's natural surroundings, this I believe was his greatest talent. Wonderful book on a great talent..highly recommended.

Book Description

This is a brief, affordable core text for courses in cognitive psychology. Thoroughly updated, the seventh edition offers coverage of perception, attention, memory, knowledge, problem solving, and emotion, in a friendly and accessible style. By discussing selected experiments rather than exhaustively surveying the empirical literature, the authors encourage students to appreciate the intricacies of problem-solving activity in cognition. The text incorporates real world examples, case studies, and key experiments on significant topics.

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Don't buy this book!.......2006-06-07

this book is the most boring text i've ever seen. readers would be discouraged by the ways these authors organize the subjects.
explanations of theories and ideas are overflowed..kept me and my colleagues confusing.
there are always some better books better than this one.

4 out of 5 stars Fundamentals of Cognitive Psychology.......2005-09-04

This book was helpful when I was completing my research paper on cognitive psychology. My class has not started, however, the book was very informative. The book is not easy to read however, it a text book for psychology majors.

5 out of 5 stars Informative and helpful.......1999-09-23

As an undergraduate TA, I became familiar with this book when my supervising professor chose it for her undergraduate learning and cognition course. The text presents detailed coverage of the topics in an accessible style. I disagree with the previous reviewer about the value of the discussion of previous experiments. By providing a discussion of selected experiments rather than an exhaustive survey of the empirical literature, the intricacies of problem solving activity in cognitive psychology are highlighted. The text uses a thematic approach throughout, and incorporates real world examples, case studies, and useful examples of experiments on specific topics. I found myself wishing that this text had been used in the cognition course that I had previously taken.

1 out of 5 stars Why Not To Read Fundamentals of Cognitive Psychology.......1999-03-13

At this point in time I am reading "Fundamentals of Cognitive Psychology" for a class that I am currently attending. My class is wonderful, but this book is very dry. I understand that the subject of cognitive psychology involves a lot of research and data and all this information is important to the study of this subject, but this book is very dry and personally boring. The whole book is a review of past research and analyzations of the subject and the author gives no thought of his own to the subject. If I wanted to know every little detail of every cognitive experiment I would look that exact experiment up. There is no basis of the book and it does not help me in the least little bit in my studies. The content is very dry and not attention holding. I would definately look into something else as far as books go if I wanted something interesting!!!

Book Description

A handsomely illustrated tribute to the Library of Congress building, published to coincide with its one hundredth anniversary. Arguably the most beautifully decorated building in the United States, the Library of Congress building (recently renamed the Jefferson Building) is celebrating its one hundredth anniversary this year after an eighty million dollar restoration that returned it to its original state. Designed by John L. Smithmeyer and completed in 1897 at a cost of under seven million dollars, the building is enhanced by the art of over forty sculptors and painters whose ranks include such notables as Herbert Adams, Kenyon Cox, Edward Clark Potter, Louis Saint-Gaudens, and John Quincy Adams Ward. The planning and construction are detailed in John Y. Cole's essay, followed by discussions by Henry Hope Reed, Richard Murray, and Thomas P. Somma of the decorations, paintings, and sculptures. The volume concludes with a study of the restoration by Barbara Wolanin, a chronology, a glossary of architectural and decorative terms, and a biographical dictionary of all the artists, architects, and designers who worked on the building. Throughout, noted photographer Anne Day's color images enhance this splendid book.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars BEAUX ART CLASSIC.......2006-10-24

It's odd that many friends of mine that visit D.C., dont bother seeing this spectacular building. This book does a fine job, through vivid, crisp images and historical text, to impress upon the reader the importance of this famous structure, as a fine architectural set piece and as the nations library. I always love the story of how Jefferson sold his book collection to the library for a ridiculous sum, to settle his always present debts, it was hardly a philanthropic jesture, but then with Jefferson it was always about him anyway, great man in many ways, but deep down a cold narcassist..anyway, getting back to the building, its essentially a copy of the paris opera of Napoleon III's Second Empire, with some changes, but definitly the opera house was the inspiration for this building, Garnier's estate should have demanded royalties it was so close, at any rate, very good book on a most deserving subject, I really cant imagine anyone being disappointed in this book, if they have any interest at all in this building.

5 out of 5 stars An inside view of Washington's best kept secret........1998-12-07

As the illustrator of the Jefferson building's overview for the book (pp.276-277), I had the rare privilege of walking through many of the areas of the Jefferson building not open to the public. Entering the Great Hall for the first time, I was caught off guard by its extraordinary beauty. Being a native Washingtonian, I was surprised that such a lavishly decorated structure existed here in Washington, D.C. The overall impression of the interior is more that of the Paris Opera House, than a government building. This beautiful book, with its many photographic details of the interior, allows the reader to recreate that sense of awe that I experienced walking through the entrance. With Anne Day's vivid photos, and the Libary's wonderful history, this book should be a welcome addition to anyone's personal library. Once you see the book, I suspect you may modify your itinerary for your next trip to Washington. This gem of a building is definitely worth a visit.

3 out of 5 stars CAYCE ALWAYS GAVE GOD THE GLORY . . ........2000-05-19

This is another good Cayce book, and it's unfair to bash this very spiritual man without a through study of his words. If we read what Cayce specifically said regarding Jesus Christ, we see how every reading he gave in trance, as in all areas of his waking life, he never once denied Christ or his divinity or his love for us. Rather, Cayce often said that nothing we do in any lifetime is as important as loving God and our neighbor as ourselves. In one very powerful group of readings, he taught that by his suffering and death, Christ actually took upon himself all our worst karma and thus freed us from that endless Karmic-Wheel-of-Rebirth Hindu's long to be done with. If we accept this salvation of being released by Christ's sacrifice from the necessity of subsequent births, but choose nonetheless to reincarnate, we do so as servant-souls: that is, our lives become a gift we're not obliged to make. Mother Teresa is a good example of such an evolved soul who came back not for her own spiritual gain, but to lead humanity closer to God. When people questioned Cayce about the safest place to be living during the coming earthquakes/tidal waves, he would reply, "Why do you worry so about where your body will be? You should be more concerned about where you are in your relationship with HIM every day!"

    5 out of 5 stars Useful workbook-like exercises.......1998-08-15

I don't take the Bible literally, and I don't mindlessly swallow everything Cayce says either. But I liked the exercises, which more or less focus on a "resonance" method -- that is, do the pictures, time periods, etc. resonate with you.

1 out of 5 stars very against the bible.......1998-05-16

The test of a true prophet is his accuracy. Cayce has been wrong and does not glorify our lord and master. Check your bibles and verify everything
