Book Description
In Falling, Christopher Pike explores the depth and breadth of human emotion through two brilliantly etched characters: Kelly Feinman, who pays a terrible price to understand the nature of true evil; and Matt Connor, a classic anti-hero who captures the readers sympathy. Kelly Feinman: Once a brilliant FBI profiler and field agent, Kelly went rogue on her last case, hunting the serial killer known as the Acid Man. Now, still recovering from the madmans brutal assault, regarded by her fellow agents as a weak link, Kelly struggles to find her footing on a new case: the kidnapping of an infant, Jimmy Techer. Making matters worse, Kellys husband has taken their daughter and left. Kelly fears she cannot even trust her own instincts. Matt Connor: Deeply in love with his girlfriend, Matt is devastated when Amy leaves him for another man. He plots a diabolical revenge that begins with his apparent death. By the time Matt is through, AmyJimmys motherwill know the intensity of Matts pain, because it will have become her own. And MattMatt will pass through the fires of hell and, in the eyes of baby Jimmy, will recover his soul. Matt Connor is a kidnapper. Kelly Feinman is the agent on his trail. They should be enemies. Instead, they become friends, and together, they help each other become whole.
Customer Reviews:
Duplicitous villians make for a killer read.......2007-06-13
In Falling Pike masterfully creates four remarkably authentic characters, each haunted by demons of betrayal that manifest in shocking and quite satisfying displays of action and emotion.
The Acid Man: a shuddersome and beguiling serial killer who is driven to his crimes by his evocative distaste of infidelity.
Amy: a selfish, deplorable Jezebel who takes the guiles of feminine charm and sensuality to extremes that make her capable of manipulating even the most sensible of men...almost.
Matt: an anti-hero so identifiable that even as he walks his path of amoral vengeance one cannot resist falling into his heart and cheering him forward in his masterful plan.
Kelly: a rogue FBI agent hunting both the Acid Man and Matt, she is the savior of them all, reminding us that Pike has not lost his ability to create intelligent yet playful women who every man will fall in love with and every woman will want to be.
Heart-Stopping Action and Clever Storytelling!.......2007-06-11
When the action heats up in Christopher Pike's, "Falling", expect your breath to slow and your pulse to quicken. The writing becomes intense in a heartbeat and you'll find yourself completely immersed in this fascinating cat and mouse chase that does an excellent job of connecting you with it's characters and emotions.
While the suspense and action are on par and sometimes even beyond the power of other bestselling"thriller" novelists, it's Pike's understanding of human pain, the pain of betrayal and obsession that will draw you in. You will understand and feel for both main characters Matt and Kelly and when things get dark and twisted (which happens often, very twisted and vary dark) you'll be right there, fighting yourself to skip ahead to see what how it ends. This is Pike writing at the top of his form, reminding us why he was for many years, one of North America's bestselling authors.
Falling.......2007-06-11
Christopher Pike has done it again once you pick it up you can't put it down.
His best adult book since "The Season of Passage".......2007-06-06
After the disappointing "The Blind Mirror", Pike returns to full form with "Falling", his first non-supernatural adult novel. The story may be familiar, reckless FBI Agent uses a serial killer she brought down herself to help solve another case, but Pike is clever enough to use that familiarity to springboard the plot and the characters in unexpected directions.
The action and pacing of the book is nicely brisk, the tone leaps wildly from melodrama to tense thriller to investigative mystery, and in places is downright chilling. Pike is deftly able to keep the entire story gelled together, though some parts will try suspension of disbelief.
The characters themselves are where the book both succeeds and fails. Pike is at his best when writing strong female leads and Agent Feinman is a prime example of this. She is capable without being Mary-Sue like, reckless but not necessarily stupid and intelligent enough to see her own failings. Matt on the other hand is shown to be intelligent and brave, but only when the plot suits. All other times he is a gullible idiot, an irritating two dimensional character warbling incessantly about his pain. On the other hand the primary antagonist, the Acid Man, is very well written and it's a shame we don't see more of him.
Fans of Pike will love "Falling" and I highly recommend it to anyone else expecting an intelligent and well thought out thriller. 8.5/10
The Ultimate Thriller.......2007-06-04
From the moment I picked up this book I could not put it down. It is the ultimate thriller!!! This book is for anyone who has ever been betrayed and has thought about revenge. I have been reading Christopher Pike books for years, but I believe this is his best work yet. The characters Matt and Amy and the twisting plots make this book impossible to put down.
A must read!!!

Book Description
In Alosha and The Shaktra, thirteen-year-old Ali Warner discovered that she was not an ordinary teenager, but was actually Queen of the Fairies. Through seven painful trials, Ali reclaimed many of her magical powers and defeated an elemental army that was preparing to attack the Earth. In the elemental world, Ali learned the true nature of her greatest enemy -- the Shaktra -- and discovered why it covets the Yanti, a mystical talisman of immense power that Ali now possesses. Now, in The Yanti, Ali discovers that a mysterious Entity is masterminding the Shaktra's attack on Earth, an attack that will kill billions and leave both Earth and the elemental world shattered. Still reeling from the death of one of her closest friends, Ali finds herself accused of murder on Earth and besieged by enemies in the elemental world. The Shaktra has had years to develop her magical abilities and her evil plots, guided by the otherworldly Entity. Ali has only known about her fairy powers for a month. There are holes in her fairy memories and her powers are still incomplete, while the Shaktra commands vast armies of hideous monsters and rules over hosts of dragons.Ali's allies are few: one dragon, one leprechaun, a single troll, nbsp;a handful of fairies and an African boy, Ra, who has sworn to serve Ali even beyond death. Plus the mysterious disembodied Nemi -- whose love sustains Ali through her darkest moments of despair. Only the Yanti can stop what is to come. Unfortunately, Ali has barely had a chance to study it. The first time she tries to use it as a weapon, it nearly kills her. Unless Ali Warner can solve the riddle of the Yanti - and the mystery behind the Shaktra's insane bitterness -- then the Earth and the elemental world will be doomed.

LOVED IT!.......2005-09-25
In fact I LOVED the entire series! I think I read every book over at LEAST 4 times! I especially loved the character Kalika, loved the way he described her, loved her fathomlessness... I feel speechless right now, I don't even know what I say! That's how good it is... The book is religious, yet not so seriously so that you will punished if you do not agree or w/e, but simply, you'll be sucked so deep into the book you might even smart believing Sita's believes...
i love it!.......2004-11-28
i read this book in year 7 this year and it is soooo cool! It is full of action as well as sad and happy emotions combined excellently. i think everyone should read it even people who don't read much will love this book. It is one of the best book i have ever read in my life!!!
The Last Vampire 5.......2004-04-01
The Last Vampire 5 is an excellent book. It can be grusome at times, but that is what makes it a good book. Buy it or you will regret it.
this book is excellent.......2004-02-23
This book is amazing, (like the other 5) the hardest to get a hold of i must say, but this series really makse you think, and the ending in the last book just blew me away, i won't say any more though... I applaud pike for his writing, he realy makes you sympathize for a character that would be seen as the horror in most books, i loved it i think you should read it too, and if you plan to read the whole series (which you should) I suggest you read the collectors editoins, because the transitions between books is much less jerky. Read this book it is amazing!
Nothing Is As It Seems.......2003-04-01
Loved this book. This book sparked my favorite quote and motto. It is simply profound. The agony of fufilling one's purpose without outside thought interferring with one's ego, is hard! It's also a good read. Sita and Kalika are classic characters. My favorite book in the series.

Loved this series!!!.......2005-07-19
I remember I first read this series in middle school at age 13. I am now finishing college and still am obsessed with this series. It was awesome writing and kept me on the edge of my seat to the very end. It had a great romance and stirred a fire in me. I couldn't put the books down. I recommend this series to any young readers and even the young at heart.
*great!*.......2005-02-28
Dis series is probably 1 of the best books i've read so far! its full of action but is also sad and happy :D... it has many twists and i was really suprised when i was reading it cos the story was not as i had thought!! but it was gr8 and i was full of tears when i finished reading it :'( (suprisingly)..lol.. i enjoyed reading this fantasic book~ ~ but beware cos this is a very addictive book... christopher pike rulzz!!
5 stars :-).......2004-02-21
I love the last vampire series, they are the best books ive ever read. the ending was so good and it made me kind of sad and happy at the same time. the characters were so real and i love the unusual names... sita, lalita and kalika. i love these books and i could read them over and over :-)
Great Book!.......2003-04-26
I thought that Pike couldn't have written it better. The whole damn series was absolutley amazing. I loved the ending....even though it was sad. It just closed up the series even though I wished he would have made a 7th and 8th and so on......Thank you Pike for writing these books! I really wish I could hear more adventures of Sita though :(
Took me almost 5 years to read this..........2003-03-06
I first got hold of this book when I was 13, and did not bother reading it cover to cover until I was 17. I had read the first few chapters of the book and got bored because it got too super natural (hard to believe when its about vampires right?) and returned it to my friend, only to buy it years later. The only thing I liked about the book was the ending, which was kind of sad and depressing, like life. It made you think about stuff in life and all.

My Personal Favorite.......2006-03-11
Everyone who enjoys reading as much as i do, will agree that there is always ONE story that sticks with you. For me, it is 'Season of Passage'. I'm not even sure why--it just does. I have no insightful words to persuade anyone of this, nor do I have any witty comments to throw in, I just know I love this book. I have probably read this a dozen times...at least. From the first time I read this story, to the last time I read this story, it moves me. It is a beautiful story of life, love, and death. At least to me it is. Take what you want from the story, just so long as you read it is enough. It was the most beautifully written Christopher Pike book I have ever encountered thus far. I hope it proves the same for someone else.
Great Book.......2005-09-30
Very Suspensful, somewhat frightening! Its a book that all fans of Mr. Pike should read!
Good story with mediocre writing.......2005-07-14
I used to love Christopher Pike when I was in junior high, and read Chain Letter and Remeber Me and all his classics. So when someone told me he wrote adult fiction, I was quite excited.
I really enjoyed the story; it was definitely a page turner. But otherwise the book was a disappointing, mostly from a writing standpoint. The dialogue was completely unbelieveable and the characters were underdeveloped and mostly two-dimensional. After a while, I had to suspend my writing critique and just read for the story, to find out what happened.
One bonus is that despite its length, the book is a quick read. All told, it's not bad if you want a quick poolside- or beach- read, or if you just want to get absorbed in a novel for a few days.
The Season of Passage Review.......2005-04-27
"The Season of Passage" takes place in the then-future of 2004. An expedition to Mars sets in motion an ancient curse set to to destroy mankind. They realize there are far worse things in the red planet than Martians. As far-fetched as that may seem, Pike grounds the story with believable, likable characters and a beautifully written story-within-a-story explains how everything fits together.
I've been a fan of Christopher Pike for about a decade now. When I first read "The Season of Passage" such a long time ago, it became an instant favorite of mine. I thought it was incredible and having re-read it recently I'm still amazed at how thought out and intricately woven everything was- how the little details mentioned early in the story being re-introduced and taking on larger significance later on. This is Pike's best novel.
Still a good book.......2004-09-11
I was a fan of Christopher Pike from middle school on through high school.
Here are what I see as possible flaws (some depend on personal preference).
1. Christopher Pike was first a young adult writer and while I think that for a young adult writer his themes are usually very creative and imaginative and deep, there is still a bit of a "young adult" like feel to this book. It's not something I can really put my finger on. Maybe it is simply because I've read so many of his books.
2. Pike likes to take a theory or an idea (religious, metaphysical, etc.) and then sort of do a "what if..." plot twist on it. So some of his books have some of the same ideas but a different "what if" and therefore, it IS a different story, but I can see where that would be irritating to people (his book Monster had a somewhat similar idea to this book). Again, I don't mind this because I've always been interested in teh ideas he presesnts as much as the story that develops it.
and the good!
1. Speaking of Season of Passage specifically, I thought this was one of his better books. He is usually very good at the story within a story plotline and I thought he did an incredible job of blending science fiction, fantasy, and even religous/metaphysical ideas--but then I think he usually is really good at that.
2. I like the ending, but then I like an ending that fits rather than a happy ending. It wasn't a happy ending really, but it fit and was appropriate. I think it would have robbed not from teh story, but from his overall theme (to quote the bookcover was one of "salvation").
3. I thought that over all, his use of "eden" the idea of "martians" and that whole concept was amazing, creative and unique. Young adult or not, it's still one of the better books and I do highly recommend it.

- Good, but not great

Good, but not great.......2005-05-14
This was a good book, but it could be better. It took them 150 pages to get to Alices party. Nothing bad happened before that. We learned about people for 150 pages. Once it got to the end though, the book pcked up. A few other good books by Mr.Pike are Monster, Bury me Deep, Whisper of death, The Evil Heart, and Remember me.
Decent young adult thriller.......2005-02-24
Once again, Christopher Pike brings us into a world in which a roomful of attractive high schoolers have to figure out who among them is the murderer.
At over 200 pages, this is a thicker book than most of what Pike writes, and that's probably because he's building a cast of characters to take us through a trilogy. As a stand-alone novel, though, the extra length isn't justified in supporting the formulaic plot.
Not to say that this is a bad book; Pike does a good job of adapting the modern thriller and romance genres to a young teen audience in the same way that a slate of WB tv shows have mastered that sleek package.
If you like Pike, you'll probably find this trilogy as good as his other novels. If you don't, this one won't change your mind any. If you're about to give this author your attention for the first time, I would recommend Chain Letter, which is a much better example of how good he can be.
This is great!.......2004-08-04
I read the whole series Final Friends. This is the greatest book. I loved it. YOU MUST READ THIS!!
important message.......2004-07-01
Whatever you do, don't buy it used from abebooks(1 star), because I got the whole trilogy directly from their online store and it arrived almost six months late and in a terrible condition.
This one wild ride of a book.......2003-07-14
I read these books a while back. I loved them. This books literally grabs your attention and holds your attention untill you finish them and are crying for more. The set of Final Friends that I read were my library's, they don't have them anymore. When I found out they were lost I got so ticked off. I'm planning on buying them from a used books store near where I live. If you ever see all three of them, even if there is only one GET IT. It will be worth it believe me. They are the best set of Pike books I've ever read.
I loved every single character in this book. It's a great plot and soo funny too. I love every bit of these books soo much. You have to buy it you will not regret it.
Other great Pike books are Last Vampire 1-6, I'll see you later, Last Act and The two chain letter books

The first Christopher Pike Book I ever read.......2006-06-16
I read this book when I was 15 which was years ago. I loved it and I was hooked on Christopher Pike books for the duration of my teenage years! Yes, it is listed as a book for young teens, but Pike's stories are gripping and great entertainment at the sametime. I read great works of literature during my high school years, but I liked to read fun books too. At least I was reading. A group of friends, a vacation, young people in love and/or lust,a mystery--it may sound like a formula story but its a formula that works. I've moved on from these teenage thrillers, but every now and then I think back to the books that I stayed up all night reading in my youth, and I remember Weekend, Spellbound, See You Later, Final Friends, Remember Me, etc. I need some summer reading and I just may read the books he's published since I graduated from high school. Maybe I'll start by re-reading Weekend. My 12 year old niece loves his work too. Maybe we can swap books.
Read this when I was a kid.......2006-01-01
I am now in my late twenties and I read almost all of Pike's books when I was 12-14 or so. I loved them and they didn't screw me up or teach me bad morals (geez, people, teach your kids the difference between fiction and reality and don't count on horror novels to teach your kids morals. seriously.) Anyway, I am now a functional adult and look back on those books fondly. I recommend them to anyone in their teens.
This book was the bomb.......2005-12-23
I recomend it for ages thirteen and up because it has alot sex, drugs, and alcohal referance. It also has alot of violence. But this book was so great i cant even begin to describe. It was my FIrst christopher Pike bookthat i read. He is an outstanding author.
GREAT!!!!!.......2004-08-04
This is the fouth book I have read of Christopher Pike's. I Just loved it. I stayed up until 2 in the moring reading it because i couldn't put the book down. I am not going to write the plot because i am sure you have read it a few times in other reviews...My favorite parts of these books are the romance in them. I also like the horror. I Just finished reading Chain Letter also and it was great...I continually want to read Pike's books....YOU MUST READ THIS BOOK...It's so good
[My] Review.......2003-10-03
This story is very entertaining and suspenseful. A group of teenagers go to a party in Mexico at their friend's mansion. They think it's a time for beer, tan lines, and an overall good time. But somebody in they're little get-together is a traitor, and soon this enjoyable vacation becomes scary beyond imaginable. On saturday, they worked on their tans...By Sunday, they were working on keeping alive.

best book I have read.......2006-05-03
I relly do not like reading but this book got my attention because it is trilling I think it is thrilling besause the vampires are relly strong, fast, smart, and they can hear and see relly good beter the any thing.
Slightly Better Than The First Book.......2006-03-02
Ray is adjusting to being a vampire. He is depressed about having to sever contact with his family and friends, and appalled at having to drink human blood. But Ray doesn't have too much time to figure things out. There has been a series of brutal murders in LA. Sita knows a vampire is responsible.
Sita and Ray are going to LA to investigate and look for the one who is creating vampires. The First Vampire, Yaksha, is supposed to be dead. Even if he survived the explosion at Sita's home, he swore a vow to God not to create any more vampires, and to destroy all other vampires. Sita has not made any more. So who is making the vampires?
A new character comes in: FBI agent Joel Gray. In charge of the murder investigation, he zeroes in on Alisa. Will she have to kill this well-meaning man if he gets to close to the truth?
This story is a better read than the first one in the series. A lot more action for one thing, a compelling enemy, and less of Sita musing on what a hottie she is. Pikes writing is a little better. Still, Pike throws in gems like "I like horny men. I feel they are true to their nature." Riiiiight.
Love it.......2006-03-01
Absolutely love this book, and the entire "The Last Vampire" series in general. Following Sita's journey is an exciting and wonderful adventure, and this book is no exception. Sita is 5,000 years old and thought all vampires (aside from herself and her lover Ray) were gone, until a series of unusal murders force her to realize she was mistaken. She must meet this new foe, destroy him, and try to do so without destroying herself. A great (and quick) read.
Good book........2003-06-08
This book is great. It's a nice sequel to #1, though it does become boring in some points.. There's small sub-stories that get told inside by the characters that dont really seem like they need to be there, but nonetheless, they add to the overall effectiveness of the plot.
I read this whole book last night. I just couldn't put it down! It was about a 3 1/2 hour read without too many breaks.. I found it took me 4 chapters to realize i had to go to the restroom and to actually get up to go.
The bad guy's mother is a bit off her rocker, being as old as she is.. Really sick minded, its no wonder that the boy turned out the way he was.
Anyway, it was a good book and i just couldnt put it down. I reccommend this read to anyone who is a fan of Christopher Pike. :)
Nothing new here.......2003-03-06
There was nothing really new in this book, basically reminded me of the previous book (other than her boy toy is a vampire). The evil demon vampire who created Sita is alive and kicking (bad pun) and now some new creepy psycho who found his body got his power and is turning people into vampires. What I find corny is a vampire who has walked the Earth for 5,000 years is getting totally owned by a vampire who has been a vampire for 5 days.

Come into an Empty World.......2007-03-09
I'm 30 years old now and this book still gives me chills. It is literally a groundbreaking book you will never forget.Pike's master form of writing scares unlike any other.
It is symbolic and creepy at the same time.Quite possibly one of the best books I have ever read~and I have read hundreds!
Not One of Pike's Best, But Still An OK Read.......2006-01-23
Whisper of Death has an intriguing premise. What if you woke up and all the people of the world had vanished? That is what happens to eighteen year-old Roxanne (Rox) and her boyfriend Pepper. All the stores are open and stocked with goods, and eventually they find three other teens: jerk Helter, nerd Stan, and beautiful Leslie. The teens soon find that the situation has something to do with Betty Sue, a classmate who killed herself three weeks ago.
The premise was great, and so is the writing in the first third of the book. I keep a journal, and if I see a quote I like from a book, I jot it in my journal for future inspiration. I wrote three sentences from Whisper of Death. The writing was that beautiful.
But as the story progresses, and the true horror of the situation is revealed, the story is too bleak and depressing. I didn't feel the end wrapped things up. I do not agree with the reason for the dead world - Pike said some statements about God that suggest He is not All-Powerful.
Last, there was a lot of sex in the story, and suggestions of incest. I don't think teens should be having sex. However, Pike discusses abortion a bit, which I feel is well-done.
Character development is great here, as well as the eerie setting. I don't feel the plot development built to a strong middle and powerful ending. It just kind of petered out.
Great book.......2006-01-10
I read this when I was in middle school and absolutely loved it. I admit I was a little young for the mature subject matter but he wrote it brilliantly. It has been stuck in my head to this day and I am actually buying it to read again.
I would recommend this book.
More than a book.......2005-12-19
When I read this book when I was a preteen, I felt like it changed my life. I wasn't the best reader, so I didn't pay much attention to the plot. Yet somehow it left me with this elevated feeling. It made me realize that I can create my own reality. Reading other reviews, I see the book had a big effect on others as well, although it seems more haunting and negative to them. Personally, I found the theme of the book liberating and exhilirating however. Not scary at all.
Christopher Pike is a very mysterious and fascinating writer, he has not let much be known about him. I can tell though, he is clearly knowledgable of and has experience with the "higher" levels of reality, the more abstract and spiritual realms. I think this book does a great job of touching that common knowledge and spirituality that all humans share.
After more than 10 years, I remembered the book and decided to order a copy to reread it, I never forgot how it "awakened" me. The day after I got it I read it in one sitting, and it is even better-written and more meaningful than I had remembered.
To go into the plot would just over-simplify it, it would not do the book justice, you just have to read it yourself. Highly highly recommended!
Great, not scary.......2005-05-27
This was a great book, but not scary. This had an amazing plot, great charecters, and Betty Sue was great. Betty Sue was actually a witch for any one who wants to know. The ending though is confusing, was it a dream, or was it real? Only thing we know is Rox died during the abortion.

Timeless.......2007-02-27
I read The Last Vampire series when i was 13, which i am now 22, and the story still affects me today. I have to say that this series is still a favorite of mine, and I remember that when i finished the last book I felt an emptyness for it being over, so I read it again. Sita goes through things that no vampire in any other story has gone through (I dont want to ruin it), and it is an emotional ride. Read this series and you will never forget it!
Interesting Vampire Story.......2006-01-29
The Last Vampire is a good horror novel, but fails to draw you in completely. The main character, Alisa Perne, or Sita, is a stunning, petite blonde who has lived as a wandering vampire for five thousand years. It gets tiring hearing her talk about how beautiful she is, and how she knows men love to look at her body. It is also tiring as she lists endless super-human traits she owns that make her invincible. Pike seems like he just couldn't stop listing abilities. His writing is flawed in places.
What makes this story interesting is that Pike has removed the setting from Transylvania to a place no one associates with vampires - India. And he works in Krishna as a character. You know - the blue dude with the flute whom Hare Krishas worship.
I will read the rest of the series, but Pike has failed in creating a heroine that readers can relate to and root for. I get tired of all the men eating out of her hand.
The last vampire #1.......2005-11-06
This book was really good i could hardly put it down. Sita or Alisa Perne is telling the story of her life. She also explaines her fears. When she falls in love with a boy named, Ray Riley, she finds out that he is in danger.Pat, Ray's girlfriend, is suspicious of Alisa. I could tell that Pat was very upset. I like this book because I love to read about vampires. I think others should read it. It's a good book! So drop what your doing and read it or Sita will get you! Beware of vampires.........
THIS BOOK TOPS ALL VAMPIRE BOOKS.......2005-10-01
A soon as I read this book was in 6th grade and I fell in love, I'm a person that likes to read creepy and romantic books and this book hit the spot. Now i'm in 9th grade and I didn't forget this book I decided to read all the series and what a joy. Christopher Pike you are a HERO!!!!!!!!!!!!
Best Book Ever.......2005-06-22
I actually treat this series as my bible. That said, this and the last book in the series are the best, although I suggest you read them sequentially. They go beyond the silly, gory, snootyness of vampires and actually are more a critique of humanity and its history. Sita is a creature who has managed to witness firsthand 5,000 years of humanity's history, and has a lot to say about it. This book brought me out of a severe depression and actually helped me enjoy life. Highly recommended.
