This book got me through Microbiology lab--easy to understand, and thorough. Everything you could want to know about a bacterium or a species is detailed here for you! I'm not selling this one back! Get this if you don't want to be writing reports in the middle of the night, going "oh, shoot, I didn't look up this or that bit of information in my professor's copy!"

This "Bergey's Manual of Determinative Bacteriology" has an admirable practical approach. It depicted the characteristics of bacterial groups in a straightforward manner. Using a wide focus, it featured vivid illustrations, which will enable you to reason like a professional. The manual provided a good number of easy-to-master materials.
However, I felt that this 9th Edition, which first appeared in 1994, is just too old. The authors should give us a more recent update. Also, the high retail price of this book ensured that many people would go for a better alternative. There are lots of them out there! The choice is yours.

A good reference for little organisms.......2000-06-30

The book is big and heavy and is filled with useful information for the world of microorganisms. All microbiology majors must have this book in their libraries. This book helps you identify, compare, and understand microorganisms better. Every organism is descibed in detail: gram-stain reactions, fermentation reaction, morphology, etc.

This book is not only a superb source of practical information for professionals working with patients afflicted with dementia, memory loss, and/or Alzheimer's, but it is also a great source of hope and inspiration to the patients' relatives and caregivers. The blend of expert advice with compassionate care motivates me to highly recommend this book. I think all people involved with caring for those with dementia will benefit from reading this excellent book.

Great edition of this classic.......2000-04-04

What can one say about The Confessions? I would recommend this particular edition because of the inlusion of the letters to Malesherbes, which can shed some light on the process Rousseau's writing of The Confessions. We can also see where the text differs from what actually happaned: there are some discrepiences in his re-telling of the same event. There is as well an excellent introductory essay.

This book, also published as a special issue in the Journal of Aggression , Maltreatment and Trauma (2000;3(1)), is an important addition to the texts on child abuse and domestic violence. Robert Geffner is a professor of psychology at the California School of Professional Psychology (and the editor of the Haworth book series on maltreatment), Peter Jaffe the director of the London Family Court Clinic in Ontario, Canada and Marlies Sudermann clinical professor at the University of Western Ontario Department of Psychology. There are 36 contributors from nursing, social work , law, psychology and education, but medicine seems to have been left our, inspite of family violence being an interdisciplinary field. The book has twenty chapters with a used friendly index that will help the student find relevant information. Due to the contributors the focus is on social, law and psychology issues with experiences from the United States, Canada and New Zealand. All in all a book that should be on the shelves of professionals involved with assessment, treatment and prevention of child abuse and neglect....

This book gives an excellent overview of the topic, written in an easy understandable way. The authors have researched numerous articles and studies and compiled them into this work. The book also contains a lot of tables and graphs to illustrate the text. The foundations and the scope of target costing are well discussed and a small case study gives an idea how target costing is working in a practice. Moreover, there are a lot of references to literature and some examples from industry discussed. In the appendix there is a very useful collection of tools used in the target costing.

Definition and scope of target costing as explained in the book:

The target costing process is a system of profit planning and cost management that is price led, customer focused, design centred, and cross-functional. The target costing initiates cost management at the earliest stages of product development and applies it throughout the product life cycle by actively involving the entire value chain.

The difference between target costing and cost management is that the latter focuses on reducing the cost when they are already occurring, that means when the product design and the process are already defined. The target costing approach on the other hand helps to identify the allowable cost for a product in the design stage, the cost at the manufacturing stage are therefore known to be achievable and competitive. Further cost improvements are achieved by kaizen costing (continuous improvement).
