This book is easy to read, easy to understand and covers many herbal remedies. Designed for the practitioner and the home-user. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in herbal medicine.

This author is The Matriarch of Herbalism among the inner
circle, which includes well known practicing herbalists,
"celebrity" herbalists, other authors, and many thousands
of community herbalists all over the world.
My 30 year old copy- my very first herb book -
is falling apart so I just ordered another because it
contains a lifetime of tried and true herbal information
for personal and professional practice. Anyone starting
out in their understanding of this field, as well as
anyone who has been studying for years, should have this,
and all her books, on their shelves, and use them! If
you do, you will "get it".
This book is recommended to educate and enlighten those
who have been brainwashed by the media to think "herbs
are drugs", or poisons, or worse- as it clears up issues
of practical usage, and proper usage, and everyday
applications, by someone with decades of experience ,
well respected the world over. It contains useful, full
descriptions of many common herbs (the "materia medica"),
some not so common, some , in older versions, which may
have fallen out of use or access. A story emerges of herbal
use all over the planet for health care, and along with
this information, the author shares her insights into
incorporating natural living to promote robust health
and vitality.
No fads here- just classical, timeless, tried and true,

Readers will be rewarded by a detailed listing of 200 worldwide herbs. You will learn how to find them, store them, and prepare them to help treat many common ailments. Don't be surprised if the recipes contained in the back of the book will have you searching your yard late at night for the intriguing ingredients.
This book is a must-read for any herbalist enthusiast, or anyone who has a slight interest in alternative medicine. I can easily see this book being passed on from generation to generation; the information is priceless. After reading this treasure, it fully convinced me to change the topic of my college thesis. I'm happy to say I couldn't have read any better book to start me on the path of learning this ancient tradition.

About the best acoustic wave sensors book available.......2007-01-20
This work does a pretty good job of spanning both theory and practical concepts. After an introduction it gives an overview of piezoelectric theory that is covered in more (but still insufficient) detail in Colin Campbell's book, "Surface Acoustic Wave Devices". The central part of the book discusses thickness shear mode, SAW, acoustic plate mode, and flexural plate mode sensors. The remainder of the book discusses coatings and other practical issues involving actual fabrication and use of acoustic wave sensors. The book gives lots of references from appropriate literature. It does present many equations from that literature that are given without derivation. In some respects these equations are only approximate, and it is left to the reader to discover both the physical derivation and the limitations of the equations. In fairness to the authors, the subject area is vast, and any reasonably sized book will have limitations. Overall, it is the best book on the subject, being slightly more thorough than Thompson and Stone's "Surface-Launched Acoustic Wave Sensors."

I've always enjoyed Levy's collage work, but this was my first time to really delve into his poetry...and I wasn't disappointed. Its an interesting compilation -- very pretty, well designed -- which includes an informative biographical essay by Mike Golden, who put this whole lovely shabang together.
A "newbie" to da levy.......2007-03-10
I have just begun to read da levy's poetry and it has already had a profound affect on me. All through out this book there are these flower like drawings, and I was wondering if anyone new the significance of them?
An Important Collection.......2000-12-01
This collection provides a great introduction into d.a. levy's work. A poet who suffered through years of poverty, anonymity, and government persecution, levy is one of the great "undiscovered" voices of the American 1960s. His work is well represented here, with a great collection of both his poetry and his visual art (some in color). Mike Golden's introductory essay is smartly written, and provides the best commentary on levy available.

being an acquaintance of levy from back in cleveland around the mid 60s, i'd say it's about time that his soul resurrected itself from its long trip though the bardols and onto the runically papyrical pages of an exquisite book, so artfully texted by el guapo miguel d'oro. kudos to golden, and a toast to levy. a quick story: me and levy once wrote 5 pages of various interpretations of his initials (a feat that took me at least a 1/2 bottle of cheap port)...i remember some: de arcanum, double apertif, don atello, dreaded anomaly. he was funny and creative, in the way that all those committed to die soon become funny and creative.

Finally! Answers to Menopause Questions.......2003-10-12
I am very pleased with the book, The Black Woman's Guide to Menopause. Ms. Carolyn Scott Brown with contributions from Dr. Barbara Levy did an excellent job of answering questions on a topic that our mothers are reluctant to discuss and/or cannot answer.
Ms. Brown handles all the topics in a very personal way. As she takes us through her menopausal journey, she covers topics such as dealing with the "shame" of going through "the change," how to discuss menopausal issues with our doctors, changes in our sexuality, and sharing information and experiences with our friends.
While the book identifies the subtle differences that African Americans experience with menopause it also gives a great definition and overview of menopause from any woman's perspective.
Thank you, Ms. Brown, for having the courage and fortitude to offer your expertise on a much-needed topic.
