This is a great educational text. Each chapter starts from cellular level and progresses to the functional and clinical level. Being a chiropractor and working with the spine everyday I need to understand exactly where the problem starts and not focus on the symptoms. This text has allowed me to understand what is neurophysiologically going on with my patients and improve their course of treatment. As described the neurological system is the electricity of the body and if a fuse decides to blow you need to know where to look.

As far as textbooks go, this has to be one of the best that I have come across...and I have come across quite a few. The material is divided into closely related sections, and the text is clear and to the point in its explanation. Not much filler text or needless material. The diagrams are pretty clear and well positioned in the sections also.

The text is extremely clear and to the point. The diagrams are also simple to understand. Every major topic in neurosci is discussed, allowing you to get an excellent foundation such that you could read any recent publications on that topic and understand completely what the authors are referring to.

A Masterful Medical Book of Great Importance Written by a Nobel Laureate!.......2006-06-07

I am a Female Reconstructive Surgeon who while reading a diversified field of topics have fallen very fond of a particular work. This is Principles of Neural Science. having just completed the 2000 edition I can guarrantee that the new edition due June 2006 will be even more captivatiing. If you have the opportunity to see Dr Kandel speak please do he is an academic historian who gives a broad history of each critical piece of medical history to each of his topics. But returning to his epic, Principles of Neural Science is akin to Newtons Principia in that is a sublime masterpiece. The Kandell prose is colorful, smooth and insightful for medical science. I have found it easy to read 100-200 pages a day so that the 1400 page book took only a week to discover. The illustrations are the best for any field of Medicine and I have read alll the classics- Harrisions & Cecils Medicine and Schwartz and Sabistons General Surgery neither of these books elucidates the subjugate field with this type of clarity and instructional prose. Do as I have done and preorder the new edition. Those with any interest in the brain will certainly be amazed at the easy depth of information you will achieve. Believe me I am writing a book -Female Reconstructive Surgery and I will be implementing operative 17.2 million pixel photography to achieve the splendid vision the Kandel has produced with his illustrations. I have learned so much on how a book for Surgeons should be written from this Nobel Laureate

Excellent reference, extremely comprehensive!.......2006-03-17

Don't be deceived by the size of this book--Although it probably weighs more than I do, I have to say that kandel et.al, present the information in a clear, extremely comprehensible manner with a good deal of interesting experiments, clinical studies, and graphs/images to help illustrate the concepts discussed. Although this book is essentially meant for graduate students, it is highly accessible to undergrads and I am tempted to say anyone else, regardless of their science background. The table of contents and the index also principles of neural science a GREAT reference book. This should definately be a companion to any college (or above) level neuroscience course! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

This is a very good introduction to Nural Science in general.
Not only it explains the inner workings of bio-chemical transmission used in the synapses and general nervous system, but it also goes beyond to explain what certain areas of the brain are responsable for, and what we believe are their working patterns.

It covers the general points, but lacks on deepness. Don't try to look in it for a thourough description of memory processes and how memory works, for instance.

This book is currently in use in many undergraduate institutions, and is amenable to use by first-time students to neurobiology who have a basic grounding in molecular biology. It is clear, concise, and rich with useful diagrams. Its structural layout is also effective for a progressive self-study approach since the chapters for the most part build and draw upon each other in a successive sense. I would recommend it as a "Must-read" for all introductory neurobiology students. A firm grasping of the information and concepts presented in this book will serve as a strong base from which students can begin to explore more detailed topics in the field without getting overwhelmed

Not worth the $ and frustration.......2005-07-23

I returned to college to further my education this year after working as a High School Chemistry and Biology teacher for the last 5 years, and your text "Fundamentals of Analytical Chemistry (with CD-ROM and InfoTrac) 8th Edition" is the required text that we are using for my Quantitative Analysis course. Myself and numerous other students in the class have found ourselves completely exasperated with the text for numerous reasons. Some of the reasons are as follows:

1. Formulas written incorrectly, while the definition/derivation is written properly right next to it, or vice versa.
2. Incorrect answers to the end of the chapter questions given in the back of the book.
3. The end of the chapter questions will often have no previous examples shown in the chapter, or in the chapters prior to it. Essentially there is no guide or basis to begin a question.
4. Asking for something in a way that is so convoluted that one has no idea what is being asked.
5. Suddenly using or asking for a term that has never been used in the book. Such as asking for "molar solubility"...nothing in text as to referred, nothing in the index, and nothing in the glossary.
6. Your solved examples within the chapter are atrocious, in that they are of virtually no use when trying to use them as a guide to the end of the chapter questions. And thank you for skipping/not showing steps or assuming things in the problems when they are shown.

These are great given that one comes to consider the questions, Did I make an algebraic error in solving? Was the formula given the correct one, and was it even given correctly? Did I do it correctly, and is it just the wrong answer given in the back of the text?

I have taken into consideration that I have been out of school for a while and that I may not be as sharp as I used to as far as some of the more complicated calculations, because I have not had much practice recently, however, when one is trying to learn from a book that makes it so hard to do anything with it, it makes it about as useful as a paperweight, which is about the best use I have for it now. A $100+ paperweight.

I thought that the mistakes were due to an early edition text, but with a simple view of the front of this book one can readily see that this is the 8th edition...the EIGHTH edition! One would think that after writing the same book 8 times, these errors and some general refinements may have taken place; thank you for the exception to the rule.

In all my years of school, I have come across many books, both used to learn from as well as ones to teach from, and I have never found a more poorly done text.

We, the students and professor, have created a website solely dedicated to the errors or oddities that we have so far found in the text: Needless to say, it continues to grow.

I will say that it is nice to see you incorporating Excel and other software into the text, which is beneficial in its use in Industry and presentation.

Work carefully and check the author's math if perplexed.......2005-05-26

Overall, the book is average. Towards the end when you start reviewing different techniques like voltammetry, potentiometry, spectrometry, and seperations the author explains the material fairly well (and has the least in text problems). I noticed a lot of errors in the book for the in text examples so be careful when checking your answer. I bought the solutions manual to this book and a couple of questions in the manual actually stated that the answers in the back of the book were incorrect. Be very careful from chapters 9-20, as I noticed a few examples had math errors. Also, at least for me, the mathmatics were derived, but not explained as to understand why they add a new term or perform an operation. I would have liked to see them relate the math to the concept better than they did. If you sit with this book (I mean really sit with it) you'll do fine. This is not a text nor a course that you can cram for. It has to be studied everyday of the week.

A great book.......2005-01-01

I used this book in my undergrad Analytical Class. I sold it back at the end of the semester and have wished I hadn't for the last eight years. It is well thought out and easy to navigate when a quick answer is needed once you are out in the "real world". There are some mistakes, like any textbook, but I think the other reviewers are just frustrated crammers sending out late-night rants.

I am just sitting here reading this book, studying for a huge exam tomorrow morning, and I am just getting so incredibly frustrated with this book and decided that I should let it out on here. Oh my God, there is a mistake on like every friggin page... and to make matters worse, all the mistakes are right smack-dab in the middle of an example problem. So there you are, trying to learn how to work certain problems, and all of a sudden, there's something that just doesnt seem to make any sense. And the whole time you're thinking that you're stupid and you just cant figure out the correct way to do the problem, until a wasted-hour later, you finally realize... "oh, its just ANOTHER stupid mistake these idiots made, and i thought i was retarded." Grrrr, this is killin me. I cannot freakin believe that they could actually charge $140.00 for a book no one even bothered to proofread. okay, so point of the story is... this book sucks, dont buy it if you can get around it, i'd recommend.

Lousy textbook, Chemistry students beware!.......2003-04-16

I have had nothing but problems with this book. The practice problems in the chapter do not reflect the ones at the end of the chapter, which pretty much leaves it up to you to figure out what is going on. The chapters are not well written in the first place! Very hard to follow! There is no supplemental solution manual to follow along with so you can see how the practice problems were solved. I could go on and on. In general, possibly the worst chemistry text I have ever had to use.

A translation that makes the Bible come alive.......2006-10-06

I bought this translation based in large part on a review written by Joshua Villines, a pastor in the Atlanta area.

The good things he says about this translation are spot on. To his comments I would add that this translation makes the text more vivid, clear and alive than many others I have read. This is first-class work.

This particular edition is printed on good paper and is a pleasure to read. For the price of a good dinner, it's yours.

(personal note: the cover is a plastic coated paper. I prefer the feel of cloth but that is a very small and unimportant complaint.)

Excellent study Bible.......2006-08-10

For anyone who desires to read a scholarly description of the people,the places, the times and authors of the Old and New Testament, the Oxford Study Bible should be be at the top of your list. Copious foot notes aid in better understanding each scriptural passage.

Best Study Bible Available.......2006-03-21

Through its brief history the Revised English Bible (REB) has shown itself to be the best English language Scriptural text available. The REB's original Oxford 1989 printing sets the 20th-21st centuries standard for scholarly biblical translation. The 1996 Cambridge edition continues its faithful presence among serious scholars, pastors, and devoted lay people.

Oxford's printing is somewhat different than Cambridge's, of course. The Oxford text provides considerable spacing (for notation and written reflection). The Cambridge work is more spartan (frequently it begins the next book on the same page with the previous book, Oxford opens each book with a fresh page) even though both books feel similar in size and weight. Both editions are doubled columned (unlike their 1972 New English Bible predecessor) and single spaced. The columns add to the texts' academic presence. (The NEB single column page gives the Scripture the feel of an easier-to-read novel.)

Oxford's 1992 hardcover REB Study Bible with Apocrypha is brilliant. It is becoming a Christian classic. There is no NIV confusion, nor NRSV competition, here. This Study Bible informs the serious Scripture reader as no other. It is beautiful read aloud. With adequate room to add notes and reflections this REB is a welcomed edition to any library. It is an excellent gift candidate.

If you are in the market for a clear, informed, instructive, and faithful English translation of the original Scriptures there is no better text than the Revised English Bible. The Oxford Study Bible will change your outlook and life.

Excellent Book For The New Student of Christianity.......2005-01-24

This book has been a great help to me in familiarizing myself with the actual teachings of Jesus. The best part for me is the notes at the bottom of the pages which refer you to those parts of the Old Testament that he quotes or refers to. It's great for giving context to those scenes where he's giving the Pharisees what-for, and many of the things he quotes are powerful and moving. Many others are outrageously inflammatory; I can see why the Pharisees got so mad at him.

I am also quite pleased with all the context commentary the authors give at the beginning of each book of the bible, indicating the "current events" going on when the various books were written. There are a set of full-color maps in the back which are excellent for "following along" when the narrative describes Jesus or another Biblical character's travels.

To any person new to Christianity, I would heartily recommend that you get this book, start at the Book of Matthew and work your way through the four Gospels first, then go back to the Old Testament. The way this bible is laid out makes it easy and an excellent education.

Excellent Study Bible.......2004-12-24

I have elsewhere reviewed the Revised English Bible, so suffice it to say that I prefer the New English Bible to the REB, though I must admit that as I transition to using modern language materials, the REB is particularlly useful wen it comes to the Books of the Apocrypha.

I have seen many notes herein about the poetic nature of the REB, and while parts of Ecclesiasticus are definately well done, I find the poetic material to be lacking. One who is searching for a wonderful poetic translation of the Scriptures into modern English should really be investigating the Jerusalem Bible. (See my review on amazon.com). My mark of a great poetic bible is the ability to chant the psalms, hymns, and canticles of the Scriptures flawlessly and simply - and the REB does not permit me to do so.

As to the edition in hand, the Oxford notes are, as usual, a plethora of context, context, context. While I don't agree with a great deal of modern Biblical scholarship, I find Oxford's articles to be very enlightening and easy to use. I have several Oxford Study Bibles (New American Bible, New English Bible, Revised Standard Version) and have found them all to be excellent resources. The REB Study Bible, which I purchased for use in Seminary, is another worthy addition to Oxford's line.

I still use it to this day for personal growth, sermon preparation, and individual devotion, and I believe you will find it to be a worthwhile addition to your library as well.

Fourth Edition Selected for Graduate Course.......2002-03-12

I reviewed six different texts in preparing for a graduate level course in International Logistics at Baruch College before deciding on Stock and Lambert's Fourth Edition. This text combines currency, and breadth and depth in a way that is most relevant to the manner in which I wish to conduct the class. It provides a useful and usable reference to the students after the course is completed. Furthermore, the related web site has been very helpful in utilizing this text. I will complement the text for certain modules (i.e., E-Commerce, Culture Change, Logistics as a Career). One always needs, no matter who the author, to provide relevant current material from other sources. A big thanks goes to Stock and Lambert for this text.

I have used this book as the primary text for my Supply Chain Management class at the College of New Jersey. My students are Junior and Senior undergraduate level students in the School of Business. The book provided excellent coverage of all major aspects of the logistics discipline.

I believe that the book would also be appropriate at the graduate school level. There are excellent case studies that can be expanded into worthwhile class discussions or projects.

The supplemental material for instructors is very helpful in preparing for lectures.

Useful concepts, but outdated in nature.......2000-07-30

I used this textbook for a recent college course. I was very disappointed because the book was published in 1992 when the computer was a novel concept "for the future of logistics management". If you can get by this "minor" point, there are other good points to be learned in warehousing and inventory managment that are useful. In short: A good reference book.

This is not so much a text book for students, but rather a cook book for consultants. I found it boring to read and very superficial. But, as a reference guide in your professional carrier, it is probably quite useful.

This is definitely for the mathematically minded logistician.......1998-10-18

This book focusses on each and every aspect of Logistics management starting from generating an order for a product/commodity right through the manufacturing process, waehousing, inventory management, transportation and customer service. It goes into a little more detail when it comes to inventory management incorporating some basic mathematics and algorithms. It explains each and every step of the logistics "supply chain" process with great detail and finesse. This book can almost (not entirely) replace a swag of other logistics books within its genre. A perfect text for any logistics/industrial engineering curriculum.
