This is the second book on the same subject. This one teaches you more ideas for pop-up cards. Also shows you how you can make GIANT pop-ups that can be used for playing in and around-sort of a scene for kids to build around. Again written for children but a good book for beginners in making pop-ups.

For example, in the language arts unit, “Stories, Stories, Stories,” students tell, write, and read stories that build on their cultural background and experiences. The math unit explores informal geometry in the patterns of Navajo rugs, African textiles, and Mexican pottery. The science unit connects weather experiences to cultural folk myths and sayings. The social studies unit examines changing requirements for voting in the USA. The text can be used as a supplement for general or elementary methods, student field experience, or multicultural education, or as a main text in practice-oriented multicultural education and multicultural curriculum courses.

Some of these do not work very well. Unless you know what you're doing or have a more detailed book on pop-ups these pop-ups may not work.

Joan Irvine's Ideas.......2002-04-04

Joan Irvine's book, "How to make POP-UPS," has more than fifty ideas that will be helpful to beginning teachers. It is also helpful to anyone who enjoys working with crafts. This book is filled with all sorts of ideas that range from making a pop-up strip, to making a cage, to making your own trapeze book. Irvine commences the book by suggesting the materials(paper, scissors, string,rubber bands, buttons etc...) to be used. Then,Irvine informs the reader of the symbols and definitions to be utilized on each individual pop-up. Irvine also gives helpful suggestions for folding, cutting, and measuring. I suggest this book to anyone who enjoys making crafts.

Lots of Pop-Up Fun!.......2000-02-03

I purchased this book hoping to find out a few tricks beyond the simple "strip" style pop up. I was very pleasantly surprised to find instructions for turning circles, 3-D cages, and sliders, among others! Given the number of projects included in the book, I feel it's an exceptional value! Instructions and diagrams were clear and easy for me to follow and I look forward to sharing some of these projects at my local elementary school, where I volunteer as art director for a 5/6th grade combination class. Children will definitely enjoy creating these simple, but impressive ideas!

Great beginner book on Popups.......1996-06-07

Although written for children, the methods learned in this book can be carried over to any type of pop-up cards. Also shows you how to make a noise-maker card, a card with a slide and a card with a rubber band powered "car" on it. Lots of good ideas.

I love Joan Irvine's books. I am an art teacher and I use it in my classroom from middle school on up! The kids like it and find the instructions easy to follow. Everyone can be successful and creative. They find they don't think they know how to do it until they've tried. Joan gets them started and then the kids take off from there!
