Good for reference, but not for beginners.......2007-01-23

I recently taught a senior undergraduate/first year graduate introductory course with VLSI with this book as the text. I found this book to be confusing and frustrating to the students. In order to lecture on VLSI topics in what I thought was a logical order, I had to jump around in the text book. My main complaint is that the book is organized more like an encylopedia and not like a textbook. As such I think it makes a very good reference for those with previous training or experience in the VLSI field, but confusing and unhelpful for those learning the field for the first time.

Oddly, the second edition of Weste (Weste and Eshragian) is far better organized and much more coherent in its development of topics within VLSI. I found myself often going back to the second edition wh Interaction et discours dans la classe de langues

Clear, easy to understand+ real world examples + interview questions.......2007-06-08

The authors have written a book that is very clear an easy to understand. The exercises are well-designed and the real-world examples are a nice touch. The lengthy explanations often found in other textbooks are not seen here. Interestingly it has interview questions too, which are not seen in other books. It's obvious that the authors have devoted a great deal of time and effort to create an accessible text. One of the authors, David Harris, had been working in chip design industries which is a great help to this book (David Harris has another book: CMOS VLSI Design, one of the main textbooks for chip design). I have used "Digital Logic and Computer Architecture" book to teach in our university, I strongly recommend this book.

I need already to be a calligrapher in order to enjoy this 100 alphabets. Only two pages are dedicated to each of them. It is not enough if youa have not practiced previously the art of writing.

Marvellous handbook!.......2006-05-08

I have dabbled with calligraphy and have several books myself, most of them are big and have beautiful pictures and present the same styles; Roman, Uncial, Italic and Gothic styles with some variations. I ordered this book because of the raving reviews and its low price and was greatly, pleasantly surprised!

Firstly: the book isn't big in size, it's actually about the size of a normal novel but had 256 pages. Secondly: it is spiral-bound which means it will stay flat and the spirals are inside the cover, safe from damage. And as the book doesn't take up much room on the table it's ideal to have around when you're working. Calligraphy equipment takes a lot of space. And thirdly: yes, there really are lots and lots of styles! I found beautiful, tempting styles with romantic names such as Luxeuil, Cancelleresca and Beneventan. There are two pages for every style, the alphabet is presented on the left page and basic structure on the right one. And many styles seem to include also such rare latters as German double-s, Swedish o (a with a little square on top) and Icelandic o with / over it.

I think this book works best for those who have already done some calligraphy, because it isn't as detailed when it comes to layout and other technical points as some of the books I have, the ones that have big pages and big pictures. But this is a very good book indeed for anyone interested - and look at the price! It's ridiculously low!!

The book is very easy to follow, with diagrams showing you the angle to hold your pen and numbers to show you the order for writing each letter. Absolutely excellent; a must-have for true lovers of this art.

But it will give you ability to set up system(desktop, internet server, intranet server), set up desktop, set up samba and connect your server with windows machines, set up dhcp the way most of people need, set up mail system and tell you most things you need to know about it, set up apache and lot more... If you prefer theory, it can also be found in the book.

To summarize, it will cover almost every aspect of system that normal beginner/intermediate user will need to set up whether you need to set up desktop system or server. And most of all, it will give you a solid base for solving any additional problem by consulting other resources such as internet, newsgroups etc. It is written in plain, understandable English so anyone could read it and start using this fabulous os.

I have been a Debian user for two years, and have used GNU/Linux for the past three/four years. I thought I would learn a great deal from this book.

The book is on ~600 pages. I read approx. 100 of them.

A bit of wasted money, but at least they went to the OSS community...

I especially enjoy this book like an old friend or a bottle of good wine it's an especially helpful Pharmacology textbook and geared to those who might enjoy a little less intensity when first starting out with this subject.

Seems to be on the required textbook list of at least a couple of Medical Schools and rightly so in my estimation after reading it and looking into most of the competition's bold outings.

This book has all the basics for an understanding of Pharmacology and I don't see why it doesn't become the standard and with the thoughtfulness of the authours and the consideration of most beginner's background this should indeed obtain.

Huge, but excellent for really understanding material.......2006-06-13

Exceptional for learning the basics. I had a few all-important concepts that I just couldn't get: G-proteins, the anterior pituitary hormones, and the alpha/beta/cholinergic agonists and antagonists. After struggling to learn each of these several times from lecture notes and other books, I turned to this book. It worked well for me because it teaches in a conceptual way and helps develop your understanding of the material. It will take a little more time, but if this is the way you learn, it will really help.

I went back to this book many times when I ran into difficult questions reviewing for Step 1 and realized that I didn't really understand the basic concepts.

Not the book to use the night before your pharm exam: for that, I'd use the small Katzung and Trevor.

A unique case-oriented phramacology.......2005-02-15

Armen(Tashjian) and others have invented a unique type of pharmacology textbook in collaboration with Harvard Med Stud! Each chapter begins with the short introduction of a case report, relevant to each drug. This may give an easy undestanding of clinical significance of the drug to med stud, interns, pharmacologists and even clinicians. I believe that it will evolve into the classic of pharmaocolgy textbook!!

A really nice review book.......2004-06-25

Professor Golan used his copy notes for this book in our class this year, so we basically had the book without the cover or index, but otherwise it was all intact. Almost everyone in our class really loved the book--it gives a basic overview of each area of physiology and pathophysiology and then described the therapies used to treat the pathology. The book was mostly written by students, and it shows b/c everything is super easy to understand and is really geared towards a medical student. Also, this seems to be the only comprehensive textbook of pharmacology that divides the drugs by pathophysiology on the market, as everything else (Katzung, etc.) are laundry lists of drugs, albeit providing more information on each separate drugs. I think I would supplement this book with Katzung (or vice versa.) In any case, I recommend it!
