Everybody needs to read this !!!!.......2007-01-16
Awesome book about tolerance.
Little something else is always left out because he is different. When another strange ceature shows up, something else rejects him at first, but (after a little thinking) finally makes the right decision and a great friendship starts.
Nice message.......2007-01-06
We love this book. It has a great message about accepting everyone and how it feels to be an outsider. I give this as a gift to new families.
A Superb Book!.......2000-02-22

Wonderfully Written!.......2000-01-09
This book offers children a subtle message about friendship and the acceptance of others' differences. Also, the cute illustrations make it easy for younger children to follow the storyline. My 2 year old loves me to read this book to her over and over again. Well worth the money!

Book Description
Tom can't sleep, so his father suggests he try “counting sheep.” He agrees, but soon finds the sheep leading him, and his trusty stuffed-rabbit companion, into a wild woodland that’s anything but restful. Once there, he meets more creatures — mountain goats, pirates, penguins, even vampire bats and tigers. To survive, he hides or races away by car, on foot, or on skis, but always counting. Soon Tom finds himself in the company of 88 ghosts! Chris Riddell’s colorful illustrations bring the action to life, while Kathryn Cave’s verse narrative wittily documents Tom’s search for sleep and counting skills!
Customer Reviews:
Great Counting Book.......2007-05-17
This is another great counting book.
Illustrations by Chris Riddle are wonderful.
You will have a good time reading this one over and over.
Bed-time counting can be fun.......2000-11-18
Out for the Count is the kind of book that wins in all respects. The prose is accessible but not over simplified. The pictures are dramatic but with a touch of humour. The story is simple;while the tension develops to a (hopefully)pleasing conclusion. It combines an interesting story with an opportunity to develop counting skills. It can be read and re-read without ever losing its special appeal. My first son,Tom,who is now nearly 12,grew up surrounded by books, from an early age. "Out for the Count",featuring his namesake,in all kinds of dicey, imaginary situations stood out as his favourite bedtime read. It helped to ignite a love of books that has led him to challenging literature of many kinds. I have no hesitation in recommending this book for children from 5 to 8/9 years.

You've Got Dragons.......2004-12-25
I read this book to my 9-year-old child who suffers with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. She could identify with all the "dragons" in this story. The book even gave great suggestions at the end of the book on how to deal with your "dragons". The ideas given are the very things psychologist use in CBT (Cognitive Behavior Therapy) to help children and adults deal with their OCD. I would recommend this book to any parent who has a child that has a hard time dealing with fears. This book can do more in 15 minutes to help your child deal with his fears than a psychologist could do in many hours of therapy.
About dragons as metaphors for one's daily worries.......2003-07-27
The collaborative effort of author Kathryn Cave and illustrator Nick Maland, You've Got Dragons is a gentle and lighthearted picture book about dragons as metaphors for one's daily worries - turning up in ordinary lives and places where they are least expected! Charming caricatures and gentle advice for facing one's fears make You've Got Dragons a most enjoyable and recommended read to share with young folks ages 6 to 10.

Customer Reviews:
What a beautiful book.......2007-03-29
I was happy to buy this book to send to a school in Rwanda.
Much more than just counting.......2004-01-18
"One Child, One Seed: A South African Counting Book" is an excellent book for children age 4 - 8. It teaches counting, and tells the story of a South African child, her family, and their garden, and a seed that grows into a plant and yields a harvest of pumpkin that is made into . . . Isijingi. There are actually three texts in this book that can be read separately or together: the counting text; the story of the seed; and background about South African family life. The book is illustrated with a couple dozen color photographs, and also includes a map of Africa and South Africa. This book teaches more than counting, something just as valuable: a look at another people and their culture. Younger children will like the counting text, with its large font and big pictures, slightly older children will appreciate learning about South Africa, its people and food.
