Book Description
When Papa Bear tells the cubs why they should never talk to strangers, Sister begins to view all strangers as evil until Mama brings some common sense to the problem. "The Bears' rules for safe conduct among strangers are listed on the last pages, including a rule about the privacy of a bear's body. A good book to start awareness in young children."--School Library Journal.
Customer Reviews:
The Berenstain Bears Learn About Strangers.......2007-06-10
My three year old loves the Berenstain Bears. This title talks about strangers in an informative way. I would also recommend The Safe Side DVD! Safety Chick and Danger Dude rules!
princess fiona.......2007-04-11
I gave this book to my 3 year old grand daughter and after she read It she asked me questions re what she read.later she said she was going to read It to her 2 year old sister Maya that way they would always feel safe.IFeel this book was a happy read, also a subtle warning:)
Thank you
Their Nanna
Wonderful authors!!.......2006-11-16
The Berenstain Bears have always been favorite books of mine. I loved reading these books as a child and could not wait to buy these same books again for our son.
GREAT BOOK!!!!!.......2006-08-29
This books deals great with strangers. It also shows not to judge a person by the outside. The only thing it needs is to tell kids what to do if a stranger does capture them.
Just what I was looking for!.......2006-07-09
I think this was the perfect book to teach my son about strangers. I tried to introduce the idea to him myself, but I couldn't explain what a stranger was without scaring him. He already likes the Berenstein Bears so this put a tough subject on his level and did a great job explaining the differences in strangers. I would recommend this book to everyone with a young child and I will be purchasing more copies for my nephews as well.

Customer Reviews:
Learning to tell the truth.......2007-06-02
The kids love the bears and we have quite a collection of the books. This one is cute and tells a worthwhile lesson.
Good Book.......2007-01-20
My son loves these books. And he enjoys the ones with lessons.
Cute.......2007-01-14
My 3 year old really likes the Berenstain Bears books and this one is no exception. A cute book with a good message.
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2006-08-29
Wonderful! This book shows Brother and Sister are bored. Sister mentions some ideas, but Brother doesn't want to do any of them. Finally Brother tries to kick his soccer ball past Sister, but she blocks it. It knocks over Mama's favorite lamp. The cubs try to come up with a huge tale about what happened, but they never get the story straight. Finally they learn that honesty is better than lying.
Great book on telling the truth.......2006-06-22
Brother and Sister Bear are playing ball in the house and break Mama's favorite lamp. The story goes on about how neither cub tells Mama the truth and soon get mixed up in which part of the story is a lie. As with all Berenstain Bear books, the moral is a good one and simple for children to understand. A great book to have in your children's collection.

awesome book, awesome lesson.......2005-12-28
the illustrations are what got me interested in this book when I got it from a book club as a kid. It teaches a good lesson about money and how to not act spoiled, and the idea that money should not make you greedy
Trouble with Money.......2005-12-10
I like this book because it showed me not to spend all the money i receive for special occassions on things that i may not need but i want very badly. It showed me that i need to be very careful with money and that spending it on everything isn't always a good choice.

Customer Reviews:
One of my daughter's favorite books.......2007-05-21
Most all of the Berenstain Bears books are fun. This one is a favorite. It is a little spooky, but not enough to scare a three year old child. The Bright & Early Berenstain books are fun and quick to read (good books for new readers).
"Spook"tacular.......2007-05-15
The storyline itself is a fun adventure for any child to enjoy, and not scary. The book works well for children with low attention spands, and/or for children with a beginner level of reading skills. This book has always been a favorite throughout my family's growth.
Greatest bedtime story, 26 years later!!!!!.......2006-12-16
My parents read this book to my brother and I as kids and I know the story by heart, I don't even have to open the book to know what comes next. I was so happy to see they still print this. I still have my original copy from my childhood. It's so rewarding to read this to my son, who's almost 18 mts old and see how much he enjoys it too. Every kid should know these 3 bears! "home again, safe at last", My mom and I still quote that line from the book.
I read this one over and over to my students.......2006-11-24
This is a wonderful book which has all the elements children love... suspense, spooky things, independence and at the end, delivery to safety. How my students love to read or be read this book! I use this with children who have speech and language delays. It subliminally, in the form of delightful spookiness, teaches prediction, simple sentence forms, and vocabulary. We make comparisons between monsters and the spooky old tree, which looks a lot like a monster, with beady "eyes", hands to grab little children and an opening that looks like a mouth.
When my own children were little, they delighted in this book and played a game where they tried to climb over their own Great Sleeping Bear (Daddy), who would roar and chase them. Shrieks of laughter!!
My three year old son loves it!!!!.......2006-11-13
I bought this for Halloween for my son. Well, it is now mid-November and his other Halloween books have been put away, but my son still loves this. This is the first book he can "read". (Actually he has memorized the text, which is quite simple.) So it is a big milestone for him.
The story is about three bears who explore a scary-looking tree. They encounter obstacles and escape to their mom at home in the end. My son LOVES looking at the scary pictures. It is like he is trying to frighten himself, yet knows that everything turns out all right. He is constantly asking over and over "What is that?" pointing at the spiders and bats and various other parts of the pictures. (He knows that they are spiders and bats--he just enjoys asking me! ;-)
I am only giving this four stars, rather than five, because the binding in our hard-bound copy is coming loose and unglued. It is only two months old and we take care of it. So I don't think the publishers put it together very well.

Book Description
<p align="center">One day, Stan and Jan Berenstain were captured by a family of bears.</p>
It was a family of three -- an overenthusiastic Papa whose high opinion of himself was exceeded only by his ability to do silly things (often placing himself in jeopardy from bees, skunks, low-hanging branches, whales, irate farmers, etc.), a wise, steady Mama with a firm grip on reality, and a bright enterprising little boy cub.</p>
For more than forty years, the Berenstains' delightfully enchanting stories of this trio have charmed children, and now they can enjoy them listening to the authors read the best of their hilarious tales.</p>
Customer Reviews:
annoying and poorly recorded........2007-06-06
The background music is an annoying tanbourine and flute that never changes and becomes way too loud in between narrations. The voices are too deep and soft (his) and too grating and plastic (hers) - you certainly cannot picture the caracters from listening to them.
The stories certainly are great but the narration is a great disappointment.
audio c.d.......2007-05-13
i love audio c.ds and tapes. this is great to listen anywhere especially on long journeys...
Excellent stories!!!.......2007-04-18
My boys love the Berenstain bears. My oldest just gave the youngest his stash of books since he's 11 now but my 6 year old is prime for these wonderful stories which stress good morals, ethics and old-fashioned family values.
My 6 year old listens to these stories nightly and they have really helped him comprehend quite a few issues that confront young children, such as being greedy at Xmas and sleeping in the dark.
We love the Berenstain bears and highly recommend this cd as a very enjoyable time for all ages.
Pre-K's dream.......2007-01-20
We bought this so that my 4 year old would not feel left out of the books on cd craze her brothers have. She sat in her room so quietly that we actually thought she was asleep. She loved every story and wouldn't come out until every story was told. She asks for this often and just loves her "big kid" experience with this cd.
B Bears.......2007-01-07
I like that there are quite a few stories in this set. The voices of the narrators left a little to be desired - according to my 6 and 2 year old. They wanted the same voices as are on the videos/cartoons. My 2 year old listened longer than my 6 year old. I do take it in the car, and they listen to it for about 2 stories, and are ready for something else. Overall, an ok purchase.

Customer Reviews:
A classic, even if you like junk food.......2007-01-24
I buy this book for all the little people in my life, after growing up loving it myself. It's a Berenstain Bears book, so it needs little introduction on its moral qualities and instruction. But it's a good book that offers a balanced look on... eating balanced.
But I especially enjoy the illustrations of the junk food. They're up there with Hooper Humperdinck - Not Him!
better teachers than i am..........2007-01-19
l bought these books to give to my little nephew for christmas. we are now well grown out of berenstein bears' books, but my children and i remember them well! the kids loved them because, among other things, they were a longish and satisfying read with mom or dad, not a quickie, but a book with a real story, particularly effective for delaying bedtime with a long book. all the books teach and some of the lessons still echo down the years. 'messy build-up' has kept the kids' rooms fairly tidy for years. manners? well, manners pave the way in life like few other things and are so critically important. junk food? there's an important message to teach about junk food and we needed all the help we could get with reinforcing it. we have a foot high stack of the berenstein books upstairs, carefully tucked away for the next generation. it is such a pleasure to buy them and give them as truly valuable gifts.
Good Book .......2006-11-15
This is a good book. It teaches that eating junk food just makes a person chubby and isn't providing any nutrients the body needs. However, when Mamma Bear hides the food in the freezer, that isn't a good idea especially since she tells them. A kid could just go there and grab the treats. Further, denying kids treats totally is not a good idea either. Better is to let them have one treat a day or every other day then to totally not let them have any at all. Then when they do get treats like on Halloween, Christmas, and Easter, they will binge on them. Also the part about the bears all running all the way home is too farfetched. The home is far away and if they have not been exercising as they should have been then that jog is too much to take at that time for them. They should work their way up first so they don't get sore muscles.
Great teaching book for all libraries!.......2005-12-29
This is a cute book even without a message attached to it and it makes my little one laugh every time we read it. Dealing with eating too much candy and junk food is the subject and it starts with mama seeing that her cubs were eating all the time and getting quite chubby. So, after running into the family doctor at the grocery store, the bear family gets to see a slide show on the body and how it works. Plus, they learn the importance of eating good food and not the junk. The best part is something that all of us have difficulty doing. Mama bear throws out all the junk food in the house (actually, she puts it in the freezer) and provides only healthy snacks like carrot sticks, nuts and raisins. We've even tried this and believe me, it works. There's now a preference over candy for nuts and raisins (especially the yogurt ones!) and candy, well, it's just not that prevalent anymore. I highly recommend this one - it will stick with your children for life.
Wonderful!.......2005-12-15
The world lost a real gem of a writer when Stan Berenstain passed on November 29. Together, Berenstain and his wife, Jan, and eventually their two sons, created books featuring lovable but flawed characters who tackle just about every real issue that faces families.
This book is no exception. Most people, especially kids, have a tendency to overindulge when it comes to junk food. This book shows that eating healthy is a lifelong pursuit (Papa Bear has the same troubles that the kids have). It's not intended as a primer on nutrition or exercize habits, but rather as a fictional story intended to promote conversations among families about healthy lifestyles. And for what it is, it's wonderful.

Customer Reviews:
Problems with TV?.......2007-06-02
When the bears have a problem with too much tv, mamma bear goes into action. The bears learn that too much tv is not a good thing.
The Berenstain magic .......2006-11-06
When my children were small they loved the Berenstain books. It still is a great pleasure to see these books. One of their finest features is the appealing way the Bears are drawn. They are so bright and colorful.
The TV book is a good one, and it has an excellent lesson for the world's children. Too much sitting and watching T.V. dulls the mind and the heart. Children need more time to be outside playing, or with their parents, or reading books, or doing many other things.
This book may seem a bit dated as today the couch- potato distractions are more diverse( and perhaps Interactive) than T.V.
In any case this little book is a fine and amusing read for children and for parents alike.
oops THEY DID IT AGAIN.......2006-02-07
these books are a no brainer!
LOVE THEM
Big help!.......2006-01-16
this book teaches important everyday values for children that are easy to understand, and fun to read at the same time!
Great message, should be in every doctor's office!.......2005-12-30
Too much tv in your house? Then grab this book! By rule, we limit the amount of time our little one is allowed to watch tv - it is recommended by the American Pediatric Association that children under the age of 3 have no television whatsoever, and those older, an hour a day. Amazing, huh? Well, this book definitely shows what we could be doing instead of being staring zombies at the tube. Papa bear has the most difficult time changing his ways but in the end after a week of no tv, even he is wanting to go out fishing again. The book talks about spending quality time with our families and learning new things. When the cubs had the opportunity to watch tv again, they chose not to but instead to play with their toys and go outside. That sends a very clear message and one that is well needed today. Highly recommend!

Book Description
This is the story of the Bear family's move to their now-famous tree house in Bear Country. Would Brother Bear like it? Would he find new friends? He wasn't sure until he got there.
Customer Reviews:
Moving Day.......2003-10-03
It was about a bear family loving where they live including their friends and home. But the soil for growing vegetables was hard and rocky so they decided to move well papa and mama bear. When they found a place to move it needed a little bit of work but they managed what it would look like and they got new friends and a new home and a new place to grow vegetables. It was a very good book and I would read it again if I had to but its not something I would read again by choice. It teaches kids what ever you do something good will come of it eventually.ages 3-8
Not much help.......2003-09-30
This book is cute, but not much help for little ones to ease their move. It does show that all the boxes get packed and go to a new house which will be better. But it doesn't say that it will be better for the kids, just for the parents.
The Bear Family....Moving?.......2002-02-28
This book is set before the bear family has moved into the tree house. It tells about why they are mvoing and how sad brother is but how he does have even more fun when they get to their new house.
If you have read any of the story books in this series you know how great of books they are. I suggest this book for any kids who loves great book!
The Berenstain Bears' Moving Day.......2001-10-17
This was one of the best children's books I have read, and I recommend it for children that are getting ready to move. This book was written by Stan and Jan Berenstain.
Moving day is about a family of bears, they are Papa bear, Mama bear, and brother bear. Before they moved to the valley, they lived in a cave. Mama had a vegetable garden, and Papa cut down trees and made furniture. Brother kept busy playing with his many friends, which were animals. Then Papa bear said that they they needed to move because the trees were getting farther and farther away and Mama bear agreed that they needed to move because the soil was getting too hard for her vegetable garden. Brother bear was very sad about moving because he would miss his friends. Mama bear said that he could write his old friends and make new friends when they moved into their new house. They moved into a treehouse that needed alot of work. As they looked at it and imagined how it would look after it was fixed up, the neighbors came over to say "hi". Now the bears had new friends and after they fixed up the treehouse it was just perfect!
It is still Great.......2000-10-20
In 1981 we moved cross coutry with our three year old son. This book helped "develop" the pictures of the process for him. Now I am in the "mentor" position for other young mothers facing long distance moves. This is my first gift choice for them and their three or four year olds to make the process understandable and FUN. Patricia Smith, RNS, MS

The Berenstain Bears forget their manners..........2007-02-14
Wow, I have to say that every since I was in Elementary School, I have loved The Berenstain Bears. I am almost certain I've read each and every single book.
I personally think that this book is perfect for children in Grade School, because these books helped me when I was growing up. I read the one about Junk Food, and even now, I try and not overload myself on sweets, and eat some fruits such as Mangos, Peaches etc.
I think any new parent would be very wise to buy the entire collection for their little one(s).
Pretty Basic........2006-08-29
It is a good book. It shows their are consequences for rude behavior. Not even Papa Bear is excluded. Mama Bear is right in her rules of being polite, but so is Papa Bear in sometimes people have to interrupt, etc. I give it four stars overall.
Good book for manners.......2005-12-29
We love this book in our house. It teaches what happens when a home runs amuck with bad manners. Shoving, name calling, blaming, throwing food, you name it, the bears have it and mama is tired of it. So, she puts together the bear family manners plan and if they forget them, then they have certain chores they have to do as reminders. Now, I agree with the other reviewer that chores as a punishment isn't exactly the best approach, but when they're chores that normally are not pleasant (such as cleaning up after an animal's waste) and have to be divided equally, then I can see the punishment factor coming into play there as being appropriate. I've emptied cat boxes most of my life and I still don't enjoy doing it so I can see that as being an effective punishment for bad manners.
Anyway, that said, the cubs go way overboard in being nice to one another. So much so that it's sickening and their goal is to have mama cancel the whole thing and let them go back to being ridiculous. However, mama doesn't go back and they learn to enjoy each other and treat each other with respect. Papa, however, learns the lesson the hard way and does many chores. But, when he runs into another car and a very angry bear gets out, he remembers his manners and a potentially ugly situation was avoided just by using good manners.
This book has been read quite a bit in our house and has had a wonderful effect. I sincerely highly recommend it!
Wonderful!.......2005-12-15
The world lost a real gem of a writer when Stan Berenstain passed on November 29. Together, Berenstain and his wife, Jan, and eventually their two sons, created books featuring lovable but flawed characters who tackle just about every real issue that faces families.
This book is a great example. Almost all parents are familiar with the difficulty that kids have in learning and practicing good manners, and often have a tough time in teaching kids how to be polite. One of the best things about this book is that it's not just the kids who are the naughty ones, Papa Bear has some rudeness problems, and even Mama Bear succumbs to an issue at one point. It's great for kids to learn that manners are a lifelong skill that will always take a little bit of practice. This book is a wonderful place to start.
Prince Charles wanna-be.......2003-12-19
This book was an excellent influence on my child's rude behavior. My son, (being a huge fan of this line of books) has gone from a barnyard animal to a Prince Charles wanna-be. He now thinks twice before belching in public, he asks to excuse himself from the kitchen table, the list goes on and on. Thank you Jan Berenstain!

Customer Reviews:
I love all of these books!.......2007-02-01
I've read them since I was achild, now my girls read them. How fun! Grat lessons to be learned in them all!
Start a conversation with you child.......2007-01-30
I love all the Berenstein Bears books. They can provide a good starting point for a conversation with your child. Don't look to these books for answers on how to handle a problem. They aren't meant for that.
In this one, we see what happens when Mama gets tired of everyone else avoiding their chores, so she avoids hers, too. Once the others see what the house is like, they start to pitch in to help.
This book started a good discussion between me and my 7 year old about what chores are and why we should do them. We talked about Mama Bear's feelings when Papa and the cubs didn't do their chores. We also talked about what happened to the tree house when Mama quit doing her chores and how that made everyone else feel.
These are great books for reading anytime and are easy for my child to read alone and understand.
Great Book .......2006-11-15
This book is great and shows what can happen if we don't all pitch in and do our share. It was fair for Mama Bear to just say screw it and go relax and have fun. She was working her butt off and needed a break. When Papa and the Cubs didn't have her to do all their work, they had to do it themselves and it had piled up horribly. Brother was upset that he lost his marbles but instead of giving in to his whining Mama just told them they pry in the vacuum. Like saying if he had picked them up that would never have happened. Same with sister's gripe.
classic children's books.......2006-06-27
The Berenstain Bears give children some of the very best stories they will ever read. I grew up with these enjoyable bears in the late 80's, and I really think parents should consider buying a few of these books for their children because they are a lot of fun.
One of my favorite moments ever in a Berenstain Bears book is when the bears are riding a bike down a dirt road, and they come across a big mud puddle. They try to ride through it but instead they sink! That moment influenced me to go outside during rainstorms as a child and try to find the biggest puddle to see if I too will sink! Of course walking back inside the house all muddy made my parents angry but that's what being a kid is all about! I also believe many dreams I've had years later (and continue to have to this day) about setting out on an adventure were a result of my childhood obsession with these books.
What a great book!.......2005-12-17
My little one loves the Berenstain Bears so when I saw this one, I grabbed it through a book club. It talks about how the cubs always want to get out of doing their chores, as well as Papa bear (he doesn't want to mow the lawn because a mama spider just got finished making a web on his lawnmower!) and they make up all sorts of excuses as to why they cannot do them. So for awhile, Mama decides that instead of hearing all the bickering, arguing and excuse making, that it would just be easier if she did them herself. However, she eventually gives in to her family when they ask to stop doing chores. Mama starts her gardening and quilting clubs again and the treehouse falls into a total mess. Even a milipede comes chasing Sister in the bathtub, there's dust and doggie doo-doo everywhere, wet, moldy towels and shower curtains, and a sink full of dishes covered in flies! Yuck!
This book gives a great example of what happens when folks don't want to do their chores around the house. It very clearly paints a vivid picture of how important all of our responsibilities are both to the things we own and to each other as family members. As always, the Berenstains teach a very valuble lesson. (This book is also particularly great to hand over to all the dads to read!) Highly recommend!
